I was in Reno for work and decided to try Bistro7 for dinner. We had a 7:30 pm reservation and the restaurant was busy on a Thursday night. One of the owners, Erin, was there bussing tables and assisting her staff. Service was great, food was tasty and nicely presented. Wines were good. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I'm back in town.

Friends had asked us for a get together and had picked Bistro 7 as the place to meet. Boy were we glad for the recommendation. They picked several of the appetizers and two wines all of which we very much enjoyed. Then the decision for entrees had to be made. Upon recommendation my husband picked the Seabass and I went with the special Surf and Turf, even knowing there would be no way I was going to finish it in one sitting. We were both happy with our decisions. There is definitely some choices to go back to try. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we had questions.

New owners and even better Bistro7. This has always been a great spot for happy hour and meetings for me. It seems with the new ownership it has an even friendlier vibe in both the restaurant and bar service. Food and drinks have been top notch. Love supporting local!

Another wonderful meal at Bistro 7. After a travel day of delays getting home, my wife, mother-in-law and I were ready for a nice dinner and immediately remembered our previous experience in this place. The restaurant is elegantly decorated and the service is always amazing. Sarah took great care of our table and was very personable and knowledgeable about the menu. She stopped by often to offer refills or see if we needed anything to make our dinner more enjoyable. My wife and I chose some lower carb options: Chicken Piccata w/Zoodles and Sea Bass w/double veggies (pictured) both were excellent flavor packed and delicious! My mother-in-law ordered her longtime favorite French Dip sandwich with au jus and a bowl of tomato Brie bisque. This is a great restaurant located in South Reno and is an amazing choice for lunch or dinner!

The food and service are good for the twice I am here. Particularly, the fried calamari is the best I ever had. It's thick and juicy, instead of the thin strings you would get at other places . The steak is also decent.

    Calamari strips... Absolutely fantastic!

Trying to figure out which was better... the service or the food? Both were rockstar! We popped in for a quick cocktail and also ordered the calamari. Now, I make very similar calamari strips at home and I will drive to Pier One in Monterey to pick up my fresh calamari steaks; I don't mess around. But these were absolutely excellent and now I'm happy I don't have to drive six hours one way for quality calamari! (Yes; I AM that person... ugh!). This 100% hit the spot. Service was also perfect, kind, and attentive. Thank you; we'll definitely be back!

Miso crusted Chilean sea bass with forbidden rice and asparagus. Their signature dish.

Bottom line: the steak and sides are consistently disappointing. The Chilean sea bass is the favorite for a reason. The fish tacos are also worth getting. Food: Ive eaten here many times. The food is just ok. The miso glazed Chilean sea bass stands out as their best dish. It's flaky and has the right balance of savory and fresh. The steaks are usually very bland, almost to the point of tedious to eat. The sides are so bland you'd swear it's a cardiac low-sodium diet on a hospital tray. Service: always great. Freshly made mini cookies for free at the concierge counter while you wait to be seated is a nice touch. Ambiance: Upscale and classy. A favorite spot for my employer to use when recruiting.

Miso glazed cod (I think it was cod anyway, can't remember, but delicious anyway!)

Attentive staff, nice open ambiance, really delicious food. It's a bit on the spends side, but I highly doubt anything has been frozen. Everything seemed to be made in house. Happy hour prices are only if you sit in the bar area. They have a nice patio/party room you can rent out as well. We will be back.

The very first New Year's Eve at Bistro 7 was a big success. The restaurant was hopping with excitement and the ambiance of the restaurant was elegant as always. A full house with so many happy customers wearing Happy New Year hats. A very special New Year's Eve 5 course menu was presented. A crustini, lobster bisque soup, portobello mushroom, Beef Wellington and cheesecake. These were my choices of food for the evening. The lobster bisque soup was off the chart. Thank you Bistro 7 for always having Five Star Food, beautiful ambiance and staff that really cares about the customer's dining experience. See you again for happy hour and my favorite Tuna Poke Appetizer and my favorite Miso Crusted Chilean Sea Bass in 2026. Cheers. Julie A

Black n blue burger with clam chowder
    Tina P.

I had the black and blue burger, which came with a pretzel roll and I guess I was unaware of that. The pretzel roll was pretty dry and so was the burger. I ended up taking it home for my husband. It was kind of very uneventful. I wish I would've ordered the bison burger, which had a brioche roll. I didn't realize we could choose what roll we could choose from, come to find out. So that I was not impressed by. I did like their clam chowder. The burger came with either fries, a salad, or soup so I chose the clam chowder. Which like I said, it was very tasty. The atmosphere at bistro seven is a little more upscale but at the same time casual. They have a 20% off any menu item during happy hour so that was a bonus.

Is it okay to admit this is my 3rd night in a row of coming to Bistro 7 on a work trip?!? I'm heading to the airport soon and I did look around for another place for dinner. While there's plenty of options, I returned bcuz *) amazing food, *) amazing staff *) excellent service *) happy hour! Tonight, I wayyyy over ordered but it's so worth it! I ordered their market salad (which is to die for!!!), lamb lollies, and Chilean sea bass, gluten free style. Kieran at the bar helped me choose a nice wine to go with it, I settled on the CA Bonono (spelling?) Side note! I got to meet Erin, one of the owners, she is amazing! She gave an impromptu tour of the patio room, which would be fabulous for parties over 15 people. Also know that the patio is noisy, you can hear local traffic. Overall, and excellent experience over three nights. This is my new favorite eating spot in Reno! I'll be back and bringing others with me!

Canned tomato paste Will sneak this in next time
    David D.

When I eat out I prefer to dine on somthing that is up-leveled from what I can make in my kitchen. Will get back to this point. We ate at the bar on a Wednesday was moderately crowded which is good. Place is super cool inside and if you squint and look away from the windows and shake your head real fast for a min you can actually fool yourself into thinking you're not in a Reno strip mall establishment--well done. Wife had beet salad I had the pizza margarita. Pizza tasted like Heintz tomato paste with freeze dried crust--could do better at home Wife--who is the Mother Theresa of salad--was trying to be positive but indicated repeatedly that the dressing was gray popupon and that the salad was built incorrectly (bunch of stuff blobbed on top of lettuce). I dont know, maybe we'll sneak in food from home next time. Maybe we'll keep driving past or maybe we'll just stop for a drink. Keep squinting people we can delusion past strip malls if we work together !!! One love

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Quality/Quantity - We (my wife) come here all the time, but this is the first time we were here for Happy Hour. If you are following, HH has been my most recent "kick." I had to drive my buddy to the airport, so we had dinner at 4pm today... I just had lunch at 1pm on Mt Rose... Okay, so not dinner, just HH. :) My buddy and I got the following: Brie Potstickers - Personally, I would NOT call these potstickers, they are more like "wonton" wrappers...? It did taste good. Loved that jam, well balanced. Steam Clams - Wow, so impressed with this. Good flavors and generous portions. With fresh baked bread, I believed baked in-house. My buddy tried to soak up all the juices/sauce with that bread. See pictures. Spinach Dip - I believe it was also made from scratch? In-house...? It was okay. But again, that fresh baked bread!!! Amazing!!! Crispy Calamari - This and the clams were a hit. I can highly recommend this. Meaty, fried well, nice sweet sauce, etc. And to wash it all down, one of each of the Sauvignon Blancs - Justin and Kim Crawford. My buddy got two glasses of Four Graces Pinot Noir. And that second glass was a very generous pour, see picture. Complimentary cookies when you come in and leave, which were so GOOD! Many menus, specials, etc. Atmosphere - Beautiful decor, still maintained well. Even the men's room still looks new, modern, etc. See pictures. See their decent size selection of wines, sorry my pictures do not do it justice. Also check out the semi open kitchen, pizza oven, etc. I just noticed the outside patio?!?! Semi private area. Maybe I can have an event here in the future? It accommodates up to 40 people. Plenty of parking, but then again who eats at 4pm?!?! See pictures. Open 6 days a week, closed Sundays. See my picture, website, or Yelp for business hours. Service - 5 stars. Kyle and the rest of the team, including the manager, were all welcoming and professional and attentive. Price - $97 + generous tip. I felt a little expensive for what we got, especially compared to all the other HH we have been visiting; see ALL my other Reno HH reviews! Might skip the HH here in the future and go back to coming for main dining. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 2008.

The tortilla chips were house-made, the brisket was quite flavorful and tender - it all came together perfectly with the sauce, crema, egg, avocado and cilantro. We both ordered the spicy margarita, which was excellent. Not too strong and with a nice kick. We arrived around 1pm and sat next to a wood burning fireplace. Talk about feeling spoiled with the whole place to ourselves! Our waitress was very helpful and attentive. We knew they had just hired a new chef and he has been working hard on a new menu that will rollout very soon. Apparently, he has offered several specials over the past few weeks as an "introduction" to his culinary talents and all have been well-received. We look forward to returning when the new menu is fully integrated. The whole restaurant/bar/club is beautifully decorated and feels very upscale, but not pretentious. Quality/Quantity - It was great that we all chose different dishes!! Better for my Yelp pictures, lol. A simple menu done well. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Today we got the following: Complimentary Bread - Cheddar jalapeno bread, ONE per person. We almost had to fight each other for this, lol. Pork Bun Appetizer - Wow, these were HUGE! For us light eaters, this could have been a meal?!?! Octopus - 4 couples shared two orders. Actually, we all shared our appetizers. The octopus was so tender. I would have preferred more of an outer layer crisp...? Lightly higher fire to char the outer skin...? Short Ribs - What?!?! My wife craved this...? Normally she would get the fish. The flavors were good, but there were a few pieces that she could not eat... Ribeye, Shoestring Fries & my Pinot and Cabernet - My usual order. Cooked well, except in my opinion, it had excess butter. Most people would probably enjoy that, lol. The shoestring fries were PERFECT, I shared with the table. Salmon - Normally my wife's dish. This was also cooked perfectly and plated perfectly. See pictures. Halibut - Good. My buddy usually gets a steak, this was our second dinner that he ordered more healthy?!?! What is happening? He is actually the biggest eater in the group, I hope he did not leave hungry. He did not even order dessert and he used to always have room for dessert?!?! Duck - Wow, I was jealous when I saw this come out! I actually thought my friend ordered a pork loin as this duck breast was so huge! If you are following, I have been having some amazing ducks on my last SF, CA trips!! I will/may get this next time. Scallop - This looked good. I am sure it was, but this guest just sat too far away from me to question, lol. Dessert - Chocolate Yummy, I was told it was yummy, lol. My wife and I did not have room for more food. Plus, I was still enjoying my wine. And to wash it all down, a glass of Pinot and a glass of Cabernet. Ambiance - 25+ years, and the place still looks the same, great job. Even the orange exterior paint job holds up! Open kitchen. Our favorite concepts! Nice bar area, small dining area, semi private dining for a few tables in the rear of the building, and lastly outdoor dining. See pictures. Small parking lot in the rear (as per my wife), but plenty of free 2 hour street parking. Only open 3 days a week for dinner on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Call to confirm days and hours, good luck. Interesting enough for a Saturday evening, the restaurant was only half full?!?! Service - Not sure when the last time we have been here, we have been working on the last year trying to get reservations. No website, not on Open Table, Tock, Yelp reservations, etc... My wife finally left a message and 4 days later you called her back to confirm, thank you. The front of the house was welcoming. Got here a few minutes early and she and he sat us down immediately. The "bus boy" was good, got us water, ice, etc. The waiter was okay, not good or bad. Good to see that the restaurant was fully staffed, I was worried about the major reduction in days and hours. We stayed 3 hours, and never felt rushed to leave. As the last guests were leaving, we got our que, lol. So good to enjoy a great meal with good friends. Price - $530 + tip. Expensive, but worth it. Nice treat, especially for our friends. Wow, it's been a long time since I have seen a hand written check. And for a party of 6, no automatic tip?!?! Thank you. The ambiance was a bit weird for me, a bunch of servers just standing around by the kitchen and the music just didn't match the vibes. Which is fine, just a personal opinion, since this is supposed to be considered "fine dining". The lamb was okay, it didn't quite have a sear on it, and I'm pretty sure it was missing a sauce or chimichurri because it was pretty bland. The fries were the best tasting thing we ordered. The complimentary bread was very dry and so salty. The biggest let down was the service. When we asked for our food to be packaged to go, the server started cleaning up our table, and he stacked our dirty plates onto our plates with food on it. Then he continued to pick up fries that had fallen onto our table, and put it with our leftover food. (I did not want dirty fries in my leftover box, but sure enough it was packaged in there). Also, the server ended up picking up a dirty fry that fell on the floor, and put it on our plates with our to go food! Completely unsanitary in my opinion and just not a good image, to be stacking dirty plates on my to go food, and also dirty food from the floor, on my plate with my food? Disgusting. When you pay this much money, you expect real fine dining. I wasn't impressed with anything, and service was a huge let down for a "fancy restaurant".

Our server was lovely, newer, but kind with a great sense of humor. The food was good. The salmon and red wine reduction was a very strange combo, skip it. The ambience was nostalgic of fine dining in days past with worn but comfortable seating and pleasant atmosphere. Although, having been too many fun dining establishments, the buses need some training. As they reached across us over us and around us to clear plates and serve. Sadly, the night was abruptly ended as the manager came over. And told us we had to leave because he had another table to seat at ours. There are many ways a manager could do this, and yes, we have been there for a little over two hours, enjoying our time, the service was slow, in a way that encouraged taking your time...a fine dining experience, which generally you would think would be unrushed. We ordered drinks, salad, salads, mains, dessert for 4... No split meals, no split tabs. One credit card and a generous tip. We had already paid the bill and were getting ready to go within the next few minutes because we all needed to be home before 8. The manager came over was extremely unkind and rude in his tone and request. He told me, without provocation, didn't care if we gave him a bad review. And two hours was long enough for dinner. We all walked out in silence, aghast at his terrible manners and words. All that to say, diner beware. This man undid a wonderful evening with a few sharp words and extremely awful service and poor manners. Realizing that had he said it nicely, we would've popped right up. We were already ready to go. And that treating your customers -who just spent a few hundred dollars with you - with respect and warmth versus treating them with contempt and rudeness. We will not be back. Not that he cares, but if you're looking for a place to have a leisurely fine meal over the course of a couple hours, this isn't it.
