I am familiar with this chain but this was my first time at this location. I ordered a King of Philly which was supposedly 50% more meat and cheese. I appreciated that the food was made fresh but I don't believe that the quantity of meat was worth the price point when I compared the "king" to my friend's regular cheesesteak. I rather have had AYCE meal for $20 more. I was somewhat disappointed and can't say I would come back here again. The sandwich possessed a nice cheesy flavor but I felt that the actual meat lacked a bit of seasoning. When we went to the counter to order, there was no one there at 7 PM on a Sunday. We saw a couple of to go orders but it was pretty quiet. We could tell that the cashier taking our dine-in order at the counter was eagerly anticipating what tipping % we were going to chose which was a major turn-off to this whole experience. I can't say this was a solid experience because all of the tables needed to be wiped down or had some sort of grease or food on the tabletops. We bussed our own table and staff was okay with that. read more

OK, being from the Bay Area I'm so glad they have a Cheese Steak shop near where I live now . I was craving the yummy cheese steak. Walking in everything looked clean and organized. I ordered the steak and mushrooms and I added the bell peppers and onions all the toppings. I love the bread is very delicious. The meat is just so flavorful you can see them cooking everything fresh. The person behind the counter was very nice and attentive. They have tasty cakes brand desserts in the front to go. Overall, it was a great experience and I got my fix. Can't wait to go back for some more yummy sandwiches. read more

As a guy who grew up in Philly and misses easy access to great cheesesteaks, I literally screeched my tires when driving by this joint on Saturday night with my kids. We were planning our dinner so it was perfect timing. I ordered the cheddar cheese with grilled onions ("wiz wit" in Philly speak), my son ordered the cheddar cheese with no onions ("wiz wit out"), and my daughter ordered the american cheese with grilled onions. We all loved them, and devoured them in seconds. I took a star off for the roll. It was soft and fresh, BUT, shallow. No way this passes the test compared to the rolls you get in Philly. But I was impressed at the menu and the prices. 3 large steaks, order of cheese fries, onions rings, and 3 bottles of soda came to $60, which I thought was pretty reasonable. I would've easily paid $80 somewhere else. I will return next time I'm in Roseville! read more

They make a pretty good cheesesteak. However, that is only if you are one of the lucky ones they decide to take a phone order for. On multiple occasions they have completely ignored any incoming calls and simply let it ring and ring....and ring. You MAY get the "Cheeseste...." and then they just quickly hang up on you. This last time, about a dozen calls were placed over 15 minutes. All were ignored. Just hope if you have a take out order, you get a shift that actually cares enough to do their job. Earlier in the year I had been a regular (6-8Xs weekly) patient of Sutter Health's (E Rosevillle Pkwy ofcs.) and had to abstain from eating 12 hours prior. As a result I frequented the CSS and enjoyed the food - though I came to think that it was because I was just famished; and that that was why is was good. Today - after quite an absence - friends and I ordered Cheesesteak hoagies with variations to each. Mush to my pleasure, we ALL realized that it WAS delicious. So I moved from the Bay Area suburbs and was super excited to find out this restaurant had a location in Roseville too. I tried a couple of other cheese steaks in the Sacramento area and so far none hit like this place does. Happy to say this location might even be better than the one I used to frequent! Meat is shaved thin, lots of cheese, and you have the option for sweet or hot peppers (or both) and onions. In addition to that, they have different fun flavor options. I personally enjoy The Hoagie (has lettuce, tomato and mayo added) and Philly Joe's (has spinach and mushroom). They also have a Western which is similar to a certain fast food chain. Only thing was we dined in and they didn't seem to have air conditioning running, so hard to eat in on a hot day with a kid. Otherwise it was clean and spacious! read more

I have tried several " Cheesesteak" places in CA. And finally found one that I will return often. They actually make the steak with Cheese Wiz. The buns are very fresh and soft but holds the meat and peppers well. The steak is cooked perfectly and d melts in your mouth deliciously! Grease is the word... Hubby and I came here for lunch today. They have a good variety of cheese steak and other sandwiches but I'm so sorry to rate this a 3-Star... I was not impressed with the "Classic" Philly Cheese Steak which was made fresh to order that I split with my husband. The Amoroso roll was soft and delicious and the sandwich itself was loaded with meat but once I picked up my half of the sammy it was just way too greasy. I was surprised that the bread held it all together. It was also too salty for my taste. Um, is this the "Real Philly" way? I'm not so sure when this shop opened but it seems they've been here since I moved to Roseville in 2001... anyway, the chopped steak and ooey-gooey melted cheese was delicious but only if they eased up on the salt and grease will I be happy to come back. I'm so sad. The sandwiches have shrunk dramatically and the prices have gone up. My husband and I used to come here regularly for lunch when I worked nearby. For the 2 of us for 2 large gilroy combos would be about $27-$28. That was about 2 yrs ago. Today with a large gilroy combo and a just a HALF gilroy(no fries or drink) was $29. I get inflation is crazy right now and everything went up, but shrinking the sandwiches too? They're about a 1/3 smaller now. My $8-$9 half sandwich was about the size of a standard hot dog bun. There was an okay amount of meat but less than they used to give. And fewer pieces of garlic (I counted 4 in my half sandwich) no peppers. Thankfully the flavor was still there. It's great they're still open because we love a good cheesesteak sandwich, but very sad it's just not worth the money or the drive anymore. read more

Growing up in San Franc and having tried their Philly cheesesteak back in the '90s, I was surprised to find a chain. I ordered the large classic steak cheesesteak with extra peppers. Those peppers are delish, they need to sell them jars. OMG! They haven't changed their taste at all. Their steak fries are always fresh and hot. Sometimes they might have a raw one here and there, but overall, this place is amazing. I was a bit disappointed with the Cheesesteak Fries version, nothing too fancy for me. The price is average, and I usually end up taking the other half of the sandwich home for a later snack. :D read more

Ordered a cheesesteak with provolone and got home to no cheese. How is that possible, the word cheese is literally in the name. Meat was fatty and tasted like it was scraped from the sides of the griddle, peppers and mushroom were good (guessing out of a jar), and there is no way they bake the bread fresh, it was soggy and stale in spots. This place has been amazing for years. I used to go to the one on Lakeshore in Oakland and the one on University in Berkeley pretty regular back in the day. I'm at a loss for the high rating of this place, it fooled us. This place has bad food, no other way to say it. I got the "classic" with provolone, onions and peppers. Wife got the pizza version. Tasteless ground beef doesn't make a cheesesteak. What ever their using is not steak, it's a groud meat. Super crazy salty, and I love salty foods. This was too much. My wife's pizza version was ok, but a grease bomb(to be expected) but almost to salty to eat. They looked good, but just salt for taste on some kind of ground meat was disappointing. $38 for 2, 8" sandos and one medium drink isn't worth it. Place was clean, bathroom was pretty clean(great for the city I guess), service was fine. That's the only thing kicking my rating up to a 2. I've been craving a cheese steak for years. Yes years. Been a vegetarian for the past 5 years or so. Some people ask, why would you become a vegetarian in the first place, well it's not because I love animals, it's because I hate plants (long story). Anyways, been craving a good cheesesteak and have not been able to find one casually driving by. I finally succumb to the weakness and found a place on door dash. I got the classic, I wasn't feeling adventurous, I just wanted the real deal. No thrills or frills. Just classic. Now ordering from a food delivery service I knew I was going to pay twice as much as going there and 9 out of 10 times the food doesn't taste as good because it's not hot and fresh, but this time, I was blown away. I have been going to the cheesesteak shop since I was a kid in the Bay Area decades ago. The only acceptable cheesesteak place outside of actual Philly. All the locations in the Bay Area were great. Moved to Vacaville and they had one there that was very good but it has closed. Moved to sac and found one here in Roseville. Have been going to this location for a few years now and it has normally been pretty good. This last time my husband and I went a could weeks ago was very disappointing. We each got a large sandwich and fries. I got the Motown with extra cheese and extra mushrooms. He got the regular Philly. As you can see in my pictures there was so much bread on the ends that wasn't cut open and filled. It has never been like that. The sandwich les have always been filled pretty much from end to end and you can even see that in other helpers pictures on here with their full sandwiches. When we asked about it we were told that's how they always have done it and that's the amount of meat they are supposed to use. But I disagree because we are not new to the cheesesteak shop and we have always gotten big full sandwiches. Also in the past when I have got extra cheese and extra mushrooms my sandwich would be so heavy and neatly cheese everywhere but not this time so not sure if I actually got the extras. On to the fries. Usually the fries are so fresh, soft inside, and hot you have to cut them open to cool down so you don't burn your mouth. They were barely warm, hard, and way over cooked. I've been looking for a good cheesesteak shop in the Roseville area, and found most of my cravings to be cured by The Cheese Steak Shop! Clean dining area, friendly and helpful staff, and portion size is definitely worth the price! My only criticism (hence the 4 stars, not 5) is that the meat seemed under seasoned for my taste, so next visit I'll just bring some seasonings of my own to throw on it! read more

I went to the counter to order; the person at the register waited for me to engage instead of "welcome..." or "maybe take your order?" I ordered the Mo Town (a standard Philly with added mushrooms), my wife the standard Philly, and we ordered the fries and rings. I was disappointed right away to see a guy come from the back, reach into a freezer, and pull out pre portioned frozen blocks of steak, and throw them on the griddle. If you know your clientele and have proper projections for sales, you should have fresh, even slice it yourself. It'll draw more customers. Once I got the order, I immediately tried the fries and rings. They were fresh, hot, well seasoned, and tasty. No complaints. I then hit the sandwich. It was hot, melty cheese, good peppers, onions, and mushrooms, but the meat was overcooked and dry. The roll was pretty boring. You need to do fresh to get it right when it come to a steak sammie. Would I go back, sure, but I'm not going to drive out of my way to get there. If you're in the neighborhood and want a Philly, it'll fill the bill. But it's nothing to write home about. read more
