This is a great idea and worked really well. The boxes are dropped off and picked up by the company. The boxes stack neatly and come with a dolly, so are easy to move around when they were empty. The boxes were clean (though I wrapped my things). I'm glad I didn't have to buy a bunch of boxes I'd just throw out and because they were sturdy plastic, I didn't have to use nearly as much packing material as I have in past moves. Really great service! I used a similar service my previous moves, but that company was not available this go around. I went with the Chicago Green Box after doing a quick search on Yelp and am happy with the experience. Scheduling the box delivery and pick up was seamless through their online form. I appreciated the routine confirmation reminders via email as the dates approached. The boxes themselves were sturdy and clean. I ended up not needing to zip tie any of the boxes during the move. My only small complaint was I had scheduled the boxes to be dropped off and picked up from 9-11AM, and both times the team was here before 9AM. The first time, I was admittedly still in bed half asleep when they called to let me know they were there, and the second, was on a work call. I had to ask the drop off/pick up team to wait a few minutes each time. I recommend calling the customer the day before to check in if pick up outside the set time window works for them, or at the least, sending a text the morning of to confirm they are available. Tried this company on the recommendation of a friend who used them and I LOVED these boxes! They are so sturdy and well-balanced, so simple to stack and carry around while packing. I never worried about them toppling over even when stacked four high and the grips to help haul them around are key! My movers had a very easy time with them, and they were dropped off and picked up right on time. While obviously they're not for things that would be a while to unpack, since they come with a 2-week time limit, I had mine delivered one week before I moved and the one week to unpack them, and that was perfect. Great way to move and saves a lot of time versus traditional cardboard boxes. Only slight hiccup was lack of communication around selecting a drop off/pickup time. You had ability to pick date in checkout but the window of time was assigned afterwards. I'd prefer if they gave you multiple time options and you select what works best for your schedule. The pick up and drop off service was very convenient and cost was extremely reasonable. It made moving less stressful which is a huge feat! My husband and I were moving our 2 bed 2 bath and the contents of a 8x10 storage unit. We packed as much as we could in the boxes we saved from when we moved in together. We scheduled The Proffesionals to help us pack so when we hadn't finished as much packing as we had planned, they packed up everything else (including the entire contents of the kitchen) in these very sturdy green plastic bins. They wrote was on the inside on the tape they used to make sure the tops didn't come open. After the move, we had a two week rental of the boxes, otherwise they were going to start costing a pretty penny. I wouldn't recommend using this for your entire move. My husband and I finished unpacking all 40 boxes just 2 days before the deadline. It's good motivation to get a bunch of stuff done but if you're not planning on unpacking everything as a full time job, I'd say use these for fragile items (with packing paper all around). Just try not to make too much work so fast for yourself if you know that isn't really feasible for your situation. read more

Won't go back to assembling cardboard boxes for a move, ever again!! Using the Green Box was so much faster, easier and efficient. I would roll one box over to an area, then fill it, then stack a new one on top. When I had a tower of four Green boxes, I then rolled the packed boxes to my staging area, and repeated the process until our entire condo was packed! Unpacking was a snap! Very easy and straightforward! They arrived early on both occasions, which worked fine for my schedule. My dog is a little anxious and they were accommodating; I buzzed them up to my unit for the pickup and they just grabbed them while I stayed in my room with her. I just moved again! A friend of mine told me the Green Box was the route to go instead of buying cardboard boxes and taping them up. I did my research and it seemed convenient, but a bit expensive vs getting boxes from U-Haul as I usually do. I called them up and realized they were aligned with The Professionals in which they are my preferred moving company so that was a no brainer. I called for a quote basically telling them I probably needed the studio 20 box package. I was told they would deliver the boxes within a 2 hour time frame and then pickup from my new apt whenever I was ready for them to pick up, but it had to be within 2 weeks after ordering. They also give you a dolly to move the boxes around which definitely comes in handy. As everyone else mentions here, there isnt any breaking down of boxes, getting a box cutter or scissors to cut the heavy ass tape. All you have to do is open the box, load and then close it shut...period point blank! I will never buy cardboard boxes again thanks to Chicago Green Box...awesome and convenient concept! read more

It is one of the busiest times of the year to move in Chicago and they were able to deliver 30 boxes less than two weeks in advance of our move. This was the BEST MOVING DECISION i ever made. The process is so simple, the boxes are fairly large and very sturdy, and the pick-up and drop off worked like clockwork (in fact, in both cases, they were early which I will always take as a sign of company efficiency). I got 30 boxes for a large one-bedroom apartment move and had plenty of room to not stuff things in. The best part is that not one piece of glassware broke. Not one. It's a first for me. They stack easily full or empty and the two week time period you have them for is pretty perfect. This is now standard procedure for me in future moves. First, I'm pretty cheap and frugal so I was hesitant at first in investing money into boxes that i'd only be using for two weeks. My last move I did was actually done entirely with one giant cardboard box that i'd fill at my old place, empty at my new place, and fill again at my old place, lets just say that was stupid and tiring and heavy. For this next move, i figured i should get more boxes but I did not want to have a bunch of boxes that i'd have to get rid of and also gripping and carrying those cardboard boxes is hard and awkward. I have a one bedroom apartment that my boyfriend and I decided to move by ourselves. I came across the green box and ordered 20 boxes which is the minimum amount you can get and it is what was recommended for a 1 bedroom. I didn't think i'd use all the boxes because I've only lived in my apartment for a year but it ended up being the perfect amount of boxes. I got a call the day before i scheduled for my boxes to arrive to notify me of the pickup, so that was great cause i'd almost forgotten as I booked it 2 weeks in advance. Someone came and dropped off the boxes in my second floor apartment for me (thank god i didn't have to carry 20 boxes by myself up the stairs, i am a small human). The boxes are a decent size and can fit alot in them.For reference, I organized all my kitchen stuff into 5 green boxes. And as a 5'1" woman with no muscles, i was still able to carry it. The boxes are awesome because no taping is required, you can easily open and close the boxes with the flaps and the handles make it easy to carry. They stack very nicely too. The easy opening and closing part was important because i forgot to label my boxes, so it was easy to peek in each box to find and grab my toothbrush which I had accidentally packed. I used my crossover suv car to move the boxes and fit 8 boxes with my seats down, so i was able to make a three easy trips to finish my move. The company called me the day before to confirm the pick up time and location 2 weeks later and that went smoothly. There was no trace of my move or any mess left over after the boxes went away. I was happy and was glad that I gave this rental box service a chance. I hope i wont' have to move again for a long time, but if i do i'll probably do get green boxes again. TLDR; boxes are easy to carry, close, and stack, i'd recommend it. read more

I love Chicago Green Box and can't imagine a move in Chicago without them. In addition to the whole recycled aspect, I love that you basically have a 2-week window to pack and unpack. It forces you to be time efficient and put stuff away immediately after moving -- none of this stacking boxes in a spare room for 2 years stuff. Plus, because the boxes are hard plastic, you don't need to worry about your fragile items getting crushed when they end up on the bottom of the box stack. I was also impressed with the staff who did the drop-off/pick-up. They were good about communicating a 2-hour window and sticking to it. Great idea of reusable moving boxes to make moving much easier. Similar pricing to their competitors. They smell a bit probably from the cleaning solution. They brought the boxes all the way up the stairs and later collected them as well. Only taking off a star because the dolly wheels were dirty so would recommend checking the wheels before rolling it over your floors. read more
