This place is tucked away in the corner of a very small strip mall, but it is quite the gem. The food coming out is definitely not what I expected from a place in this location. I can see parking getting crowded if all businesses around were busy. Food - SO GOOD. Regular chicken bowl with broccoli and white rice - First off, I like that they serve the chicken naked and sauce on side. That way, you can control your amount of sauce. Their sauce is homemade and delicious! It compliments the super tender chicken. It wasn't dry at all. I also think this is the ONLY chicken bowl I've ever had that had a larger chicken-to-rice ratio! More protein! Their side of mac salad is delicious as well! It's not drenched in mayo and has just the right amount of bite to it. I can tell the macaroni wasn't overcooked and soft. Ambiance - When coming in, the lady at the front was taking call-in orders left and right. So that may be the key to it. But they were all very friendly. I definitely recommend this place and will be making it a regular go-to spot for when I need to get takeout for lunch during work.

Delicious, quick, and healthy! Service is very friendly and I can tell they have many regulars. You order at the front and food is ready in 5-10 minutes. You can also order ahead which I noticed many patrons did. I ordered a regular chicken bowl and made it spicy and added Asian slaw on top. This is such a good weekday meal if you're unable to cook and want something nourishing. The regular was massive and I saved half for later. I will be back to try their other options!

Favorite little chicken bowl place! It's a small business, but they are great at what they do. I frequent this place typically on my lunch break from work and have never been disappointed. The portions are reasonable and fairly priced. My favorite would have to be the spicy chicken bowl and white rice combo. The chicken is never greasy or fatty and the spice is a medium level heat (and i'm not great with spicy) so I think this is a good amount of heat. The kimchi is also worth trying it is some of my favorite. I prefer this place over bigger names in the chicken bowl game, and I think so will you. Must try!

(+) Spicy chicken bowl The chicken bowl is a casual, hole in the wall, fast food restaurant that specializes in chicken with an asian fusion twist such as yakisoba and korean tacos. If you're in the mood for chicken and rice, this is the place to be. Food: I ordered the spicy chicken bowl, which came with just marinaded chicken on a bed of rice. The chicken itself wasn't too spicy or overly flavorful. The dark meat chicken is very lean and there is no fat or skin attached to any of the pieces I ate. Service: My bowl came out in about 5-7 minutes and it was steaming hot. The owner I believe was kind and easy to talk to. I would say I haven't had the full experience of the menu, but I will definitely be back when I am in the area. My initial impression is great, and tasted great enough to eventually ease my way into the chicken bowl again.

Quick service and solid food. A good option in the area for a lunch pickup spot. The side dishes do not have a lot of flavor and I found the mac salad to be pretty bland. Spicy chicken was pretty good!

An affordable and healthy meal choice in the Montebello area. There's actually a lot of chicken teriyaki places around the area, but I find what makes them distinct is the freshness of the ingredients and the affordability of the meals with the portions that you get with it. Although I usually don't consider chicken+rice a cheat meal, but the food here makes me feel like I'm actually eating clean. Yay for eating and feeling healthy! The place was remodeled from the first time I visited back in 2017 and it can seat around 6 people inside. Unfortunately, no public restroom for customers though! || L O C A T I O N || -located on the corner of Washington Blvd. & S.Montebello Blvd. -Same plaza as 7 Eleven and next to Doughnut Makers. -Parking lot is quite small and the spaces are quite tiny. It may be difficult to find parking during peak hours. || F O O D || Chicken Bowl ($ 5.48+$0.50 for veggies = $5.98) I was surprised with how much chicken was packed in the bowl, and I liked how healthy it tasted. Barely any taste of grease and chicken was tender. Price is really good for what you get. Chicken & Beef Plate ($10.96) - Comes with a choice of 2 sides (macaroni salad, kimchi, steamed veggies, miso soup, or green salad). The chicken was great, but what blew me away was the beef. Don't judge the beef by its appearance, but it's actually not bland at all. It's very flavorful but doesn't taste like it was dunked in heavy seasonings or sauces as I would usually find in most bulgogi. It wasn't overly salty or sweet and was just the perfect amount of seasoning. After trying the beef, I would definitely like to try the tacos for my next visit!

Here's the updated review with the remodel mentioned naturally near the beginning…read more Stopped by Young Dong Tofu House in San Gabriel to give this newer Korean spot a try, and I left with mixed feelings. It's been a few years since my last visit, and they did a complete remodel. The restaurant looks completely different now with a clean, modern look that feels much more updated than before. While the service could use some improvement, the food was definitely the highlight of the meal. We ordered the galbi and seafood tofu soup combo, the bulgogi and seafood tofu soup combo, and the new cold noodle. The galbi came with six pieces and was cooked perfectly. It was tender, flavorful, and paired well with the seafood tofu soup. The combo also came with four banchan: bean sprouts with sesame oil, kimchi cucumber, kimchi, and seaweed. Everything was fresh and complemented the meal nicely. The bulgogi and seafood tofu soup combo was just as satisfying. The bulgogi was well seasoned, and the tofu soup had plenty of seafood with a rich, comforting broth. We also tried the new cold noodle, which came in an icy chicken broth with shredded chicken and buckwheat noodles. The owner recommended adding a little vinegar, and it completely brought the dish together. It added just the right amount of brightness, and the broth became incredibly refreshing. It ended up being one of my favorite dishes of the meal. The food here is honestly the reason to visit. It's very close to the quality you would find in Koreatown, but without having to deal with the headache of Koreatown parking. That's a huge plus if you're in the SGV. The ambiance is modern, clean, and comfortable. Even during our visit, it wasn't overly loud, and we were able to have a normal conversation throughout the meal. Service was just okay. The staff seemed overworked, and it looked like they could have used more help. The one server who came around to refill our banchan was incredibly sweet and friendly, and we really appreciated her attentiveness. Unfortunately, everyone else, including the owners, came across as a bit short with customers and not particularly welcoming. It didn't ruin the meal, but it was noticeable. Parking was easy thanks to the large free parking lot shared with the other restaurants and 168 Market, making it much more convenient than trying to find parking in Koreatown. Overall, I'd come back for the food. If you're looking for solid Korean comfort food in the SGV without making the drive to K-town, Young Dong Tofu House is definitely worth checking out. The remodel gave the restaurant a fresh new look, and hopefully as they settle in and add more staff, the service experience will improve because the kitchen is already doing a great job.

I wanted to introduce my gf that lives in the area to tofu soup and this one was nearby and the only one in the area so we decided to give it a shot. It's odd for myself as a Korean American to go to a Korean tofu soup spot and there are no Korean speaking front of house members. I saw maybe one Korean ajumma in the back of house and that's it. Here's what we ordered: **Beef Tofu Sou (Medium Spicy): Easily one of the worst tofu soup (soondubu) I've ever had. First off, when I added the egg, the soup wasn't boiling so the egg didn't cook through. The soup base hardly had any spicy kick. The soup itself was very bland and had no authentic soondubu flavor. (1/5) **BBQ Short Ribs: The galbi was not that hot when it was served. It was very fatty and mostly bone. I do not recommend if you're looking for authentic galbi. (1/5) The banchan selection was very poor. The service was decent in the beginning but once I was ready for my check, it was really hard to flag anyone down. If you're looking for authentic Korean style tofu soup, I do not recommend. If you're catering towards a less flavorful Americanized tofu soup then this may be the spot for you.

The waiting area is pretty big, kind of like a lounge with a arcade on the side, very aesthetic and spacious. Parking - Free above and underground lot, spacious overall and plentiful. One fun aesthetic about this spot is that you can play game to see if you can hit "0.92" on the machine, if you do then you get your meal for FREE, but of course it's very hard. My brother got 0.91 so it was quite close, nonetheless, a little fun experience before you get seated. There's plenty of tables here and it's very spacious between you and the other diners in the restaurant. It can get a bit stuffy with all the smoke from the grill but other than that, very clean overall with plenty of staff walking around. Each staff is designated to a specific area and they're all pretty quick. They're friendly as well which is a nice gesture to see. With how busy it is, they're always on the move and they got some of our orders wrong along with missed orders which is understandable. All the meats that we've tried were so delicious, personal favorite goes to the bulgogi, beef belly, and brisket. All the cuts were very good and not too fatty which is the best part. The bonchon is great as well, plenty of options and most of them are what you usually see at standard Korean restaurants. Personal favorite goes to the fish cake, a bit spicy but very delicious overall. Besides the meat cuts, I love their kimchi fried rice, although it used to be bigger portions and come in a Korean lunch box, now it's just a small bowl, still tasty regardless. Also love their steamed egg, super puffy and very delicious, not too salty either. Overall, one of the best KBBQ spots not only in SGV but all of California/US/Worldwide. They have so much meat cuts, many non meat options as well, great staff, clean restaurant, and most of all, very delicious foods.
