Disclaimer: I don't eat chicken so no comment on that but others in our party did like the chicken very much. As a non-chicken eater, I ordered salad, hush puppies and the catfish sliders. I was also excited that they had a number of local beers on draft. The salad was pretty average and underwhelming. The hush puppies were also just okay. The catfish sliders were the tastiest of the three but I did find a small piece of bone in one. We chose this restaurant because it was close to an event we were attending later in the evening. Since the chicken was well received, I might come back with other chicken enthusiasts, but unlikely I'd check back here myself. Service was pretty speedy but although we requested separate checks at the start of the meal we still got a combined check and had to ask again for the split. Ambience is nice with a bit of a bistro flair and cute chicken themes. The process of making a reservation here is awkward. You have to request the reservation and then they email you later to confirm it. Would be much more convenient if they did Open Table or Resy. Limited parking too. Their lot is small and we had to park on a side road, which was not a big deal as the road seems to be in an industrial area and was not busy. read more

Everyone needs to try Honeybird atleast once in their life. The place is absolutely incredible. I've been twice now and both times have blow me away. The restaurant itself is pretty small but decorated beautifully. I'd recommend calling ahead for dinner and arriving early for lunch. I went today for my second time and arrived at 12:30 with no trouble finding a table. Our waitress was attentive but not overbearing and answered every question we had about the menu. It's predominantly fried chicken but there are some small bites you can order as well. The main menu has a variety of chicken, flavor, and sauce options to choose from. Today I opted for the plain blue plate with the Honeybird sauce. My sides were the dill pickle potato salad and grits. In the past I've had the pimento Mac and cheese and creamed corn as well. The chicken was perfectly crunchy and large- these are some big birds they're cooking. The grits had a perfect flavor and were nice and cheesy. The potato salad was also a stand out with the creamy potatoes and sharpness from the pickles. Everyone who came with me today enjoyed their meals and their food has been consistently great. I went to honeybird for the second time! It is so good! I am a pescetarian but knew that their menu had options for me. The first time I went I did a plate of fried tofu with all the sides and Texas toast. The cornbread and tots were great. My friend and I split the fried green tomatoes. This time I asked about their secret menu (sssshhh) and had their fish and chips! It was so good. It came on Texas toast and came with a side of slaw. The fries were seasoned curly fries. My friend picked this location to have lunch. I had never been but it was delicious. The decor matches the theme. The waitress was helpful with any questions. We got the pimento cheese appetizer and chicken sandwiches. A few minutes after we arrived we were lucky to have James Murray from Impractical Jokers eating at the establishment as well. He was kind to take pictures with guests at end of his meal. He was here to do a comedy show right down the street. The Nashville hot sauce is the perfect mix of spicy, just enough you feel it but not so spicy it ruins the rest of your day. The standard sandwich also only comes with pickles, which is my preferred way to have it. You can upgrade to deluxe & get cheese & tomato added. My favorites were the Nashville Hot Chicken Bao Buns, the North Carolina Pulled Pork Pierogies, and the spicy chicken tenders that were in the Bucket of 10 pieces. My favorite sides were the Collard greens, dill pickle potato salad, buttermilk ranch slaw, and the pimento Mac + Cheese. The baked beans were good, but I could taste BBQ sauce/ketchup based in the beans that were messing with my pallette. I would skip the bucket next time and just get the tenders. I selected greens, and yummy real mashed potatoes with brown gravy, both delicious!! Also the two tenders meal was huge, moist and crispy! Not your cookie-cutter chicken tenders! But bring your own honey mustard sauce. Their sauces leave something to be desired, especially the mustard, it's whole grain and vinegary, not sweet or satisfying. My husband and I visited Honeybird last Saturday, and needless to say it was extremely disappointing. We were super excited to come because others had said it was so good. I don't know if we just had bad luck that night. We started with the hush puppies. I don't think they were cooked correctly because the outer 1/4 inch of the entire hush puppies were soaked in oil. Not really edible and they turned my stomach. I got the platter meal and my husband got a couple chicken tenders in the hot sauce with a side. The fried thigh and drumstick had a strange synergy where the chicken itself was extremely dry and overcooked, (like literally the worst cooked chicken I have ever had) but the breading was gooey and raw in some places. The flavor of the spices was just not that great. HB sauce was uninspiring. The whole chicken experience left me wishing I had just gone to KFC. My husband's chicken tenders were a bit dry but the hot sauce hid it well. Sides - Onion rings are fine, but nothing special. Pork and beans were room temperature, overly salty and maybe 50% sauce. They had a good amount of pork, but barely had any beans. Sweet potato tots were good but I'm pretty sure they just deep-fried tots they purchased pre-made. At the end I paid well over $50 for two of us for one of the worst chicken meals I've ever had. Total disappointment and waste of money. Ruined our night. Don't recommend. read more

We love coming to Honeybird, food usually hits. Love that there is ample parking in the lot right next to it, and usually we have been able to get seated. They do take reservations though so if you're worried about not getting a spot, would definitely make a reservation in advance. Food, wise, I typically get the tenders, which are huge by the way! an average person can probably eat 2 to 3 of their tenders because of how large they are! I really love the garlic Parmesan and honey cholula flavors. Pro tip, you can get the blue plate and swap it out for three tenders if you want to get a great deal on tenders and sides. not all the time, but occasionally when I've been, the chicken has been on the drier side. Side wise, the mashed potatoes, onion rings, mac & cheese are good. Didn't really love the collard greens as much. Drinks wise, I love that they have mocktail options because I don't drink much alcohol. Some of the mocktails are on the sweeter side, though, so just beware. Well seasoned and great flavors. I particularly liked the bao buns and drumstick/wings. We had ordered spicy and honey with truffle mayo. I liked the spicy flavor and truffle mayo combo. Sides were okay. I liked the curly fries but nothing out of the ordinary or i have had better ones elsewhere. The portion was large and we could barely finish half with 2 of us. The other night I braved the #washingtonbridge and headed over to Honeybird for their entry in the RI Food Fights Lord of the Wings challenge. Now I had been here once before but I did not have their wings on that visit. The Honey Cholula sauce came recommended by the bartender (who provided excellent service!) so I ordered that. Honeybird does gourmet fried chicken and it is good. Their wings are battered making for a different experience. The wings were lightly sauced and that makes sense as the wings and the batter are flavorful on their own. The flavor is a nice addition without covering up their signature chicken. I was hoping for a bit more spice but they were good - I am learning I do like a honey-based sauce. Dinner was great! None of us really like chicken on the bone that much so we each got orders of tenders and a bunch of sides to split. We also got the pickle cheddar spring rolls which were so good! I got 4 tenders (and then ate about half and ate the rest the next day for lunch). I tried plain (OG), spicy, and honey cholula. I liked them all tbh, I feel like the OG was perfect for satisfying that classic fried chicken craving but the sauced ones were also really good. We got the cornbread (outrageous), sweet potato tater tots (perfection), mashed potatoes and baked beans (also good but the first two were my faves). We all loved it and said we would definitely go back. To drink I tried the white peach sangria and regretfully forgot to eat my moonshine-soaked peach garnish at the end. Now that's all I can think about so I will DEF have to go back and get that drink and eat the peach. The parking situation isn't great. There are only about 5 actual parking spots, but people just make more unofficial spots in the small lot and park on the side street next to the restaurant. I do wish they would draw out a few more spots in the lot since there is enough room for them. Checked out Honeybird on a Friday night once where we have reservations as this place gets pretty packed. It's busy and somewhat loud but it's jam packed with great food. Their chef has won a James Beard award for chicken in the northeast so he has to know what he's doing right? Sure did! We split an order of the Catfish Sliders for an app. Perfectly fried and breaded and the cherry pepper tartar sauce made it unique from others, the actual sandwich would be a welcomed addition to the regular menu. I got the fried chicken sandwich which appeared to be a breast instead of a thigh, with pickles and of course on a Martins potato roll, perfect blend of delicious, wish they could turn up the heat a little on the sandwich. I had gotten the Nashville sauce as they said it was more packed more punch than the spicy. My wife for the 4 tender meal, nice of them to allow a different flavor for each tender. The hot honey and the garlic Parmesan stood out for me, I may have liked them better than my sandwich. We got a side of mac and cheese and seasoned fries as well, they were curly fries, loved them. Note that few RI restaurants specialize in chicken (exclude Popeye's and KFC) but this one is a winner. I am going to whine a bit about a few specifics but my review is RECOMMENDED. We unwisely did not make reservations on a Friday night but somehow a table for 2 opened within 15 minutes. A number of folks (tables of 4) were told "1 hour+" and left. So tip one - reserve. The easy positives - a very good crew, lots of parking next door, and a cozy spot (feels good but a bit tight with seating for about 50 in what appears to be a small space). The menu headings - "snacks", "appetizers", and "chicken". The first two have a lot of options. We opted for the hush puppies from "snacks" - good size portion (enough to split) and tasty. My quibble was the onion butter that overwhelmed the dish; salted butter would have worked better. Also as the "chicken" portions are large, think it would be hard to manage an "appetizer" as they appear to be "entrees". We started out with cocktails - that menu is strong. Having lived in TX for many years where the whole Topo Chico and then ranch water boom started about 10 years ago, I ordered their ranch water. A real winner. "Chicken" - my dining companion ordered 4 chicken nuggets with OG "coating" and a side. VERY tasty and huge - took 2 home. I ordered the "blue plate" - a drumstick and breast - both large, tasty, and mild (although I ordered spicy). Sides were mashed potatoes (the real loser of the night - lumpy, almost "cafeteria" quality) and the potato salad (needed a bit more pepper or hot sauce). My final quibbles - understand why one would want a sauce with nuggets or wings. But why with the blue plate? Is one going to dip a battered drumstick in blue cheese? Also the chicken came on a drenched piece of toast ("TX toast"?). They could eliminate that... OVERALL a good experience and we'll be back. Damages with tip was $90. We live nearby and drive by this once abandon gas station frequently and watched it be transformed into this very cool space over time. After seeing the parking lot full and the restaurant packed with people night after night we decided to check it out. We couldn't decide where to begin, since everything sounded great, so we ordered the Party Fowl - which is a platter of chicken, accompanied by pickles, Texas toast, all dipping sauces, and every side on the menu. This was way too much food for our party of four, so we got to bring home leftovers too and we weren't mad about that. This place is small (28 seats in the restaurant and another 10 seats at the bar) so be sure to reserve a table online to snag a table. On nice days, they roll up the garage doors and put out a few high top tables outside as well.
