OMFG! I remember Double Rainbow from when I first moved to the Bay Area in my 20s and it instantly became my favorite ice cream. The flavor I remember is called Its A Goodie -- french vanilla with peanut butter and fudge chips. Yup, still awesome! Ok sweeter than my adult palette likes now but hella nostalgic. I paired it with coconut. Not a flavor I remember from back in the day but also an excellent taste. Again, adult me would like a little less sugar and perhaps the crunchiness of the coconut but I'm being picky. Mississippi mud pie seemed like something to try and I'm glad I asked for a taste. Coffee ice cream with a fudge swirl and crushed cookies. Both workers seemed happy and offered lots of suggestions. There's one table inside and a few more outside. I wanted to stop in for ice cream while out and about, but I've been trying to be more thoughtful about choosing dairy free options, thus enter in Chocolate Cow's shaved ice. To start off, the line situation just isn't ideal, so it would be nice if they put up a rope to help cordon off the line from the payment area, but the service itself was very helpful and friendly and the ice cream barista was able to make the perfect shaved ice for me when I asked for light root beer syrup. My shaved ice was absolutely delicious and I loved their flavor options so I would definitely come back next time we're in Sonoma. read more

Remembering how I loved the freshness of this ice cream, we swung by here for another dessert but this time we tried their ice cream. For a large cup with 3 scoops I ordered 2 scoops of Rocky Road and a scoop of Dulce De Leche and my hubby ordered Mint, Rocky Road and chocolate with 1 scoop each.. Total with tax was around $18. The Asian gal who was training a young dude was very nice and even added another scoop on mine because she saw my cup was rarely full like the young guy did not put 3 scoops on mine.. Taste? Lovely.. This is a great candy, ice cream and novelty store. The ice cream is super delicious. The chocolates are so delicious - milk and dark chocolates, sugar free. The stores has a wide variety and different flavors of other candies as well. The staff is really attentive and helpful. The variety of ice creams and gelato is overwhelming. They also offer samples of those frosty desserts to help you make your choice. I ended up buying T-shirts and a little girls decorative purse for Easter. My kids absolutely love this store and we visit every time we go to Sonoma. Lots of old school candy which is hard to find at other places. Their favorite are the chocolate rocks. The staff are also very friendly. We have not tried their ice cream. read more

I liked that it did not feel like a chain and the gelato was tasty. Service staff allowed you to take many samples. The chocolate was freshly made in fact you could see it in the molds. It had a fun atmosphere and was a nice place to visit while in Sonoma. read more

Very friendly employees who were very knowledgeable. The ambiance is a bit overwhelming for us neurodivergent folks. There are just so many things to look at! Of all kinds. On top of that they make their own fudge. And they serve coffee and ice cream. The ice cream is sourced from local creameries and was very good. I ended up ordering an affagottò which was fabulous but the entire reason for our trip to Sonoma was to locate the most amazing cup of hot cocoa and sadly this is the area that fell short. The cocoa just needed a bit more cocoa and it could have been amazing. 7/10 recommend. Will be back to check out their retro candy offerings. read more

Today, happen to be a Hot Summer day. I felt like getting some Ice Cream today. Tonight, I'm in Napa again. I'm in the heart of Sonoma to get some Ice Cream at The Chocolate Cow. I like the name, it's catchy. And I really like the theme here, it's intriguing. This is located in The Mercato Plaza. It feels good to be back in Wine Country. I had to get the Cosmopolitan Sundae with Rocky Road, Cookies & Cream, Caramel flavor, Chocolate syrup, and Strawberry sauce. It looks so good, and was so awesome. I give this 4.1 stars. Tucked into a courtyard on 1st Street E., this is a cute and delicious spot to get a sweet treat after a meal on or a walk around the plaza. Staff are lovely. The limoncello gelato is my personal favorite. Plenty of candy to choose from too, if that's the treat you're craving. read more

Haven't ever written a yelp review before, not generally that type of person, but the server was too unpleasant to ignore. I went in to buy chocolates with my boyfriend for him, and was met with a very bored and rude guy who seemed not to want to serve me whatsoever, despite us being the only customers there. Cute small shop, and I bought a small box of chocolates as a gift for my mother in law. She said they were delicious! Prices were fair and the chocolates were beautiful. Solid ice cream shop in downtown Sonoma. I have been here a few times and have enjoyed it. Most of the ice cream seems to be from Straus which explains the good quality, creamy ice cream they serve here. There are also a ton of candy and chocolate options along with gelato and sherbet. I do say, I prefer this place over Sweet scoops despite sweet scoops being homemade ice cream. Not much seating inside the shop but there is a small courtyard outside with a decent amount of benches. Was walking around Sonoma when I discovered this sweet shop. It was a pleasure chatting with Heidi about Hawaii and all the different products the store had to offer. We ended up getting the shave ice with POG syrup thats imported from Hawaii. Learned the ice cream was made from local dairy. I even bought my parents some chocolates which they gift wrapped for me.
