a salad with shrimp and spinach
    Katrina U.

My mother comes to chopped leaf often and decided to bring me along recently. I had just had a blood test and was famished, there was maybe a couple of tables with people in them eating and a few in line to order before us. As we approached the counter to line up the people making food greeted us, they were friendly and offered to help with the menu if needed. There was a lot of build your own salad options (which for the record I would usually go for) but I needed something a bit more heavy so I got the pesto quesadilla, my mom got the spinach salad and added shrimp, we also ordered 2 tomato soups and 2 chop waters (cucumber was the flavour of the day). I eat paleo and have been trying to get my mom to as well for close to a decade for health reasons, I think if it will ever happen for her it will be because of this place! The cashier must of over heard my mom asking how I was feeling (dizzy) because of the blood test I had taken shortly prior to lunch (he was waiting for a sample of the soup to see how spicy it was) he actually offered to bring everything to our table near the front. That was super sweet of him to do as they started their lunch rush almost immediately after we sat down... The cucumber water was ice cold and had super fresh well cut cucumber in it, the tomato soup was the perfect temperature (not microwaved) the pesto quesadilla was nicely toasted with all fresh ingredients and juicy chicken inside, my moms salad had loads of dressing and quite a bit of shrimp. The soups also came with a small portion of taco chips which were toasted nicely but didn't go great with the soup. Yes the prices look high but they are priced quite standardly for food cost at the moment just like every other salad place you will go to that has good quality so if that's your issue then take your butt down to your local subway and don't complain! Overall we had over and above customer service (which I witnessed all staff there that day give to others as well), great food and a warm and comfy place to eat. Can't wait to see what their seasonal food changes have in store for their menu.

Came in and the people at the counter said the Southwest was a favourite so I just gave it shot.

It literally changed our lives, and that is not an exaggeration. We get their pumpkin flax gluten free loaf and are never turning back. I, personally, am not allergic to gluten but this is still my favourite bread. Ever. We turn all of our friends on to their products and can happily say we have converted a fair share of people over to 6th ave bread. While we mainly get their fluffy delicious bread (at least a couple loafs per week) they also have other products that are to die for. First, they make hamburger and hotdog buns out of the same ingredients they make our bread from, which is super convenient for us. They also have a bunch of treats (chocolates, tarts, etc.) in the store which I often treat myself to whenever I go in to pick up bread. This is heaven for people with food allergies, especially gluten, but to be honest it's heaven for everyone else as well. They've got us hooked and are definitely doing something right!

It was clean and bright and we got a nice seat by the window. Our server was quick to say hello and take our drink order. I'm always impressed with the breadth of the menu here. I landed on the Seafood Yummy Hash, and hubby had the Big breakfast, again. Coffee and water came first, and we were both delighted at how good the coffee was. Most diner style restaurants have a very burnt tasting coffee but this was very smooth. Off to a good start! Food came out very quickly and looked amazing. Both dishes were beautifully plated, and the fruit on the big breakfast was not a typical canned special. Things took a turn at the first bite though. Taste 10/10, but our food was cold. Like cold, cold which was surprising given the restaurant was mostly empty, and it came out so quick. The quality of the ingredients was excellent, and very obviously in-house made, but both of our potatoes were quite literally cold, with some of the baby potatoes being hard in the middle still. The sourdough was also stale, but not just stale in taste, it was almost like it had been toasted well in advance and then plated. The review on the big breakfast remains the same as last time. Sausage was amazing, but the bacon and the ham left something to be desired. The server took some time to return back to our table and check in on us. When she did I told her our food was cold. She just kind of made a face, said oooooh, apologized, and that was it. She also had to be reminded to refill our coffees a second time after asking. The last shock came with the bill. While the prices overall were reasonable for very large servings of food, two black coffees came to $11. I know we raved about them at the beginning of the review, but not sure they were $11 good. Really wanted to love it, but not sure it lived up to expectations this time.

They have excellent juice and smoothie options as well as Vietnamese coffee. They bake their bread and Kouign Amann pastries fresh every day which makes all the difference. I'm glad to have this place as a lunch option when I go to the office. In fact, my company will also order sandwiches from Minh when we have a special event or something at the office. Then you bring it to the cashier and pick your broth and add-ons like cheese or rice. The price is based on weight. Then you grab a number stand and bring it to a table and wait while the kitchen cooks your food and broth. Optionally, you can type your phone number on the tablet at the counter to collect loyalty points and redeem it for stuff. On this visit, I came with a friend for lunch on a weekday afternoon. There was no wait so I was able to get inside and get started picking up my toppings right away. Every time I visit Big way, there is a staff member who will come to the front entrance way and hand you tongs and a bowl. Interestingly, there was no one that greeted me so I just got the bowl and tongs myself. But there was a small hiccup at the cashier. When I tried to pay for the meal with a gift card their scanner had trouble picking it up. Props to the cashier for trying different ways to try to fix the problem instead of giving up and make me pay some other way. They were able to fix the problem eventually after many tries. I asked the cashier about the different broth options and the cashier lady was happy to explain the differences. I went lightweight for an inexpensive meal so I got the beef strips, glass noodles, a couple of random seafood balls, some bak choy, and lettuce. I got their ma la tang with peanut sauce and it was pretty tasty. You can pick your own spice level. I got it medium spicy which gave it a nice kick but it may be pretty spicy for some people. It was happy hour so I got green tea (or lemonade drink) free with the meal. Pretty refreshing. I couldn't finish the broth because I filled up with the green tea, and it was spicy with no toppings left since I decided to go light on the toppings. The staff were great at taking away our bowls and utensils as soon as they saw our bowls were finished and immediately offered ice cream. It was a nice refreshing dessert to finish up the meal. I got a free mini sized milk tea flavored ice cream. It came in a black waffle cone. As for the vibes of the dining area, they played Kpop music but it wasn't that noticeable since there were a lot of loud people, mostly teenagers. I can definitely say that this location is the most spacious (and nicer) one I've been to yet. There were lots of tables that were spread out so you don't have to awkwardly angle your body sideways to get out of the table. (On the flip side, the seating at their Robson location is really cramped) There's a spacious patio outside overlooking New Westminster that I would have opted to try but it was raining that day. The washrooms were clean. Most locations have private washrooms but the ones at this location are public. Overall, despite the little hiccup at the cashier, gotta give 5 yelp stars based on this visit. This is a great location!
