Pork schnitzel stuffed with cheese, potatoes and Cole slaw
    Wendy M.

First time having Serbian food. I had the Pork schnitzel stuffed with cheese. It was delicious and a huge portion. I could only eat a quarter of the schnitzel. Potatoes were tasty too and services was great. Would definitely recommend!

Came here on a Thursday evening. Reservations need to be made beforehand as the restaurant space is small and seating is limited. They do get quite busy! The parking lot is small but nearby street parking is free and available. The interior is well decorated with European style photos and artifacts hung up on the wall. It has a very warm and homey feel. I had the cabbage rolls which were absolutely amazing and was a nice warm meal on a cold day. The chairs and tables are older so one of the tables was wobbly and the chair I had sat on was really uneven. Service was overall good though - I could tell they were busy.

Long Book Title: Joys of stumbling upon a Hidden Gem when famished. ~ Open on Mondays! ~ Recommended dishes -- Karadjordjeva Schnitzel, Rakija and Meat Platter ~ Eastern European cuisine ~ [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy decor[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] (side note - Monday is a day when most diners on Royal Oak & Rumble are not open except for chain food places such as Subway.) ...so the story begins with closed restaurant doors... yes, on one rainy Monday, I discovered that ALL restaurants that I intended to visit at this Royal Oak & Rumble intersection were closed -- luckily, my dropped jaw led me to discover Tenen and my palate was overjoyed. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Luckily, Tenen took away my disappointment and Monday blues. Foods seemed auth[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]en[[HIGHLIGHT]]tic Eastern European cuisine as the customers and owner were conversing in their own language when I opened the restaurant door and I was blown away by their cultural decor the minute I stepped inside. Ambi[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]ance was cozy, decorated with many historical references to their local culture. Service was decent though the foods took a while; thankfully, it was worth the wait. For me, this place was a true hidden gem as I must have driven by Chevron at least a dozen times and had never known of its existence but Tenen is right next to Chevron! What did I order? A traditional dish that I can not properly enunciate -- Karadjordjeva Schnitzel, which was a filling cheesy dish that I would def recommend as a comfort food. As recommended by most yelpers, i plan to return one day with more foodie friends to order their popular meat platter. Plus, I wanna try a traditional Rakija drink to complete the authentic dining experience at Tenen on my next visit!

    MVP platter~

Time for another update. This time my friends and I (3 people total) tried the MVP platter. This one costs more than the BBQ platter for 3 ($110 vs ~$90 as of the time of writing) so we were wondering if the platter is worth it. The quality of the food selection goes up with the MVP. We got a giant meat "burrito" that was full of cheese. There are now BBQ chicken chunks, as well as 2 salads (coleslaw, and Greek) instead of 1. Was it worth it? Yes. I wouldn't get it every time, but it is worth the extra few bucks if one wants something different. My friends and I were barely able to polish off the platter, and all of us are big eaters. In theory, the MVP is for 4 people. One thing worth mentioning - I think management changed since the last time I was here. I didn't recognize any of the staff, and a few things were different, such as the additional of placemats.

Food is great! A very small warm place, service was fine. The waitress was polite but nothing to brag about. The food however, is fantastic. Portions are huge and the prices are reasonable. Tenen Meat Platter for 2: loads of meat with a side of bread and slaw. The slaw was a bit tart but it paired well with the heavy meats. The meats were cooked well. Flavourful and tender. You can taste the smokiness of the fire. 10/10 Goulash: the both kept hot throughout the meal. The meat was so tender and flavourful. Melt in your mouth. The flavour of the broth was delicious. Paired well with the potatoes and bread was great for dipping. 10/10 Can't wait to go back and try more menu items.

This place is a hidden neighborhood gem. We have been wanting to come here for a while. But somehow just never did until yesterday (Friday dinner time). We came at 5:30pm and were seated immediately. The decoration here makes you feel like you're in a Serbian grandma's place. We ordered a BBQ platter for one, a goulash, and a Cockta (Balkan cola). I have never been to eastern Europe. The only time I've had goulash before was at the Vancouver Christmas Market. So I wasn't sure what to expect. Then the food came.. Cockta 7/10 It's very different from our typical coke. It's a lot more floral, more acidic and not as sweet. It's not bad, just different. Goulash 10/10 The pork is so tender it melts in your mouth. The sauce is fatty but so full of flavour. It blew my mind how good this is. BBQ platter 8/10 This gives a good variety of different meat and sausages. The sausages were a bit too salty for me, but the homemade coleslaw certainly helped with that. All in all it's a good dish to try Balkan BBQ if it's your first time. The portion is huge and the two of us couldn't even finish half of this. We took them home and will have another 2-4 meals out of this. For ~$70 (including 18% tips), this is extremely good value. We'll be back soon!

The restaurant has started doing lunch special and daily special on the bulletin board. The menu changed. The people are still the same but the service is definitely not as great as before. In the past the server would come and talk to their customer. I noticed a few things off lately: 1) I tried ordering on Uber Eats for lunch and they missed the mark on turning on Uber Eat app to allow order. I called UberEat wondering why I was not able to place the order and was told that they didn't turn it on. So I ordered from somewhere else. 2) I came here for dinner with a friend from out of town, I was charged for an extra order of complimentary bread. There were three of us and they only gave us two bread and when we asked for one extra one we were charged $2.95. Our total bill came to $80.95 and they nickels and dimed on bread which is quit shocking. If the extra order is not complementary then let us know. Or if they want to save on bread take the two pieces of bread and cut it into smaller pieces. Food was not as tasty as before but the three stars is mostly on the service. Service was not good. We ran out of water in the middle of the meal and no one came to refill our water. Plates were not remove until we asked for our bill. We were not the only table being ignored. There were two other tables dining that night. It is not a busy night and the server can't even notice small detail.

This is one of those hole-in-the-wall places that I definitely knew about, but was hesitant to visit?? I grew up seeing it in my neighbourhood but never visited because I found it intimidating for some reason LOL A bunch of people we know said it was a great spot for meat in the last couple of years and my boyfriend and I finally decided to go on a walk and check it out and we were blown away!! They are an Eastern-European restaurant so you'll find a variety of dishes including Balkan food, cabbage rolls, schnitzel, lamb/veal, pastas, tons of different bbq meats! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience: very very dark and cozy, tightly packed tables and it was packed on a weekday evening![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was surprised that the majority of the customers were asian LOL You definitely feel like you walked into a European joint as soon as you walk in. Food: I LOVED the trout, it's right up my alley. The meat platter had chicken kebab, pork kebab, chicken thigh, bacon, and sausage. I also ordered a side salad for some fresh veg to cut through all the heavy meats and it was perfect. gudfoodnolai

10 out of 10! Came from Cleveland and stopped the night before our flight out. 14 of us and they were amazing!!!! Everything everyone got was amazing, the service was fantastic. Authentic Balkin Cuisine. Tastes and style of cooking makes you feel like you're in Europe. It's a must visit if you're in Vancouver!

    Ly W.

Huge portions packed with big flavours! I'm not too familiar with European cuisine and am not a big fan of cabbage rolls, but we were not disappointed! I love the pillowy bread and the meat (under the bread) was grilled and well seasoned. I am always worried that meats can be gamey, but this was not at all. I'm not big on cabbage rolls, but the ones here were flavourful with a nice bite - nothing was soggy or under seasoned. The addition of the cole slaw and peppers added a fresh element and a nice crunchy textural element.

I have been wanting to try the food here ever since a few friends raved about the meat platter. I like meat but not overly so, but the aroma is definitely mouth watering. I had ordered the meat platter to go and it filled my car with such delicious scent. It also drove my neighbor's dog with longing when we bumped into each other outside our doors. Besides the meat platter which has so much meat that I think it can actually feed two small eaters, I also ordered the cabbage rolls and a roasted red pepper and eggplant dip. The dishes also came with coleslaw and two cheese dips and rolls. The meat platter is a good deal for meat lovers. I like the skewered meat which are tender. I do not see bacon but there is a pork belly which is unfortunately very tough and dry that I cannot really cut through it. The sausage and chevapi are ok. The meat is served with roasted chopped potatoes and coleslaw. The disappointing dish is the cabbage roll. I love cabbage rolls and their version is way too salty. The cabbage rolls are huge with lots of meat filling. The sides of rice and mashed potatoes looked to be swimming in the container. And they are bland which is a good thing since the cabbage rolls are so salty. I will not order this in future. The rolls are nice and soft, perfect with the dips. One is a cheese dip and the other is a bit spicy. The rolls also go well with the roasted red pepper and eggplant dip. I am glad I get to try this place but it is not something I dream about. This is a meat lover restaurant. Parking is limited at the lot. Street parking may be better.

An untapped treasure off Royal Oak & Rumble. Looking for the small shopping plaza next to Chevron. There's parking out front or on the side street. It's a small but cozy place. It was busy. They're open Sunday to Saturday from 10:30 am to 10:30 pm). Ambience: 4/5 Food: 4/5 (Large portions of food! If you love meat, this is THE place for you. They lost a star rating as all 4 dishes were too salty from the Cole slaw to the various types of meat). Unfortunately, we were too full to try the desserts) I had the Njegushki Steak which is pork tenderloin stuffed with prosciutto and smoked gouda cheese wrapped in bacon served with roasted potato & tomato & cucumber. I highly recommend this entrée if you love cheese, prosciutto & meat. Value: 5/5 ($20 - $30 entrees with big portions) Service: 5/5 - excellent service. If you're not sure what to order, ask the server for suggestions. Ours made some excellent recommendations.

I loved the Balkans so I went here to try some authentic Serbian cuisines ( Eastern European Foods). Not so big place and take note limited parking. Busy place so people tends to double park which is for me bad, specially when raining you have to go down and look for the car owner...this shouldn't be allowed.... Nice place, with interesting and excellent interior designs. Tons of old photos by the wall and some European frames. Dim light that adds on the romantic ambiance of the restaurant. Polite and very friendly service, the waitress came to me several times asking if I need something, more napkins, hot water etc...I just appreciates crew like them who really does their job...kudos...... I only order one dish this time and it was a Balkan style bbq. In the menu its called Tenen platter either for 1 or 2 person. The 1 person dish will cost you $21.00 excluding tax and tip... It is a signature bbq platter with chevapi (grilled minced meat), chicken shish kebab, pork kebab, chicken thigh, bacon and sausage serves with fries and coleslaw and a huge bread. No single complaint, I loved and enjoyed my food. Serving was huge that I need to bring home more than half of what I ordered. Non-pandemic this place is very good with small group. Moderate noise level, accept cash, debit, and credit. I recommend this place to all Vancouverites and tourists specially those whose cravings are Balkans cuisines. Reasonable price !00% I will visit again.....

    Quite the unique place!

We ate all the meat but had a lot of the soup and rice left. It was $140 for all of that which when split is pretty good! My favourite was their brisket point. Their soup was also veryyy comforting!! My other two friends got their glass noodles and Korean pancakes. The glass noodles were delicious!! Very flavourful. The pancakes I thought were a little too oily. I would definitely come back! The flavors were deep and comforting, just what you'd want from a good Korean soup. The decor is not much but quite intimate and cozy. The only downside is that the quantity of meat felt a bit on the lighter side. The kimchis, though, were really good as it was fresh, tangy, and perfectly balanced. There was no welcome tea or rice tea, which I kind of expected, but the service was prompt and friendly. Alcohol and other drinks are a bit pricey, but that seems to be the trend everywhere now with the strike. Overall, a great new addition to New West. I'll definitely be back to try more from their menu

They also have hot soy milk for drinks. Their deep fried chinese donut has got to be the best I've ever had in my life. With the price of a pair of fried donut being over $6 these days, I get my fix here. Other things are standard, good but not outstanding. I really like having soy milk to drink instead of water. $18.88 is getting a little steep for a limited choice buffet with not too many meat choices.
