The place is awesome! It's a converted from a real Church and the place where Arthur Guinness got married when it was still a church. I liked how they kept the original decorations, so you can still see that it was a church. We first came on a Friday morning as part of the walking tour at 11 am and there were no customers. Today, we came back for lunch and it is completely full. On to the food. The prices are pricy for pub food.€13 for a Guinness beef stew is steep. The stew came less than 5 minutes after we ordered it. It was lukewarm and was an unappetizing blackish color. The first bite, the beef wasn't as tender as it should be, but the flavor is good. Nothing special. The Thai green curry chicken is more like yellow coconut curry. The chicken is dry and the worst is that they used the wrong type of rice. It's a long grain rice, which gave the dish a wrong crunchy texture. It's supposed to be served with jasmine rice that is fluffier and creamier. Come for the special location and grab a drink. This my second visit we opted to sit upstairs and give the Gallery restaurant menu a try. We had an early bird sitting with a great view of the old church organ and the entire bar area beneath us. We used the 3 course menu and had an awesome experience. Our waiter was super attentive and we wanted to enjoy our servings without being rushed. We asked him to please pace the service and he did exactly that. The food was well prepared and tasty, salmon and steak. The starter was my most favorite, the chick pees, mixed greens, feta cheese, a mild dressing. Also the apple cobbler and Earl Grey tea was great to top everything off. While this is a beautiful restaurant/bar, and the outside garden area is wonderful, I think it's a tourist trap. The prices are pretty high for what you get. The serving sizes are normal, but most of the food doesn't have much flavor. The service is extremely slow (it's tough even trying to waive someone down to get another drink or the check). My husband had the ribs which were not the most tender but were definitely flavorful. I ordered the chicken sandwich which was juicy and had a nice crunchy coating but could've used more spice or a more punchy slaw. We both ordered signature cocktails & they were very good. We were told by our hotel this place would have no problem fitting us in. When we arrived, the bouncer told us since it was 7 pm we could not come in with one child (12 year old) without a reservation. Not because of space, because of policy. Had lunch here this week after doing a bit of Christmas shopping in town. The location is great and the building is a really nice historic site. Staff are great and the food was nice. We were a group of 4 adults with 2 kiddos. So wanted a table to suit the group, the staff were great and sorted us out. The menu was pretty good and the kids menu was pretty standard, sausage & chips, chicken goujans & chips etc. The kids menu also doubles up as a puzzle sheet with space for colouring-in, jokes and puzzles. However, this was the exact same puzzle sheet as 2014. It'd be a nice touch to change it up from time to time, but no big deal. I ordered the open faced Smoked Salmon sandwich, with a side of fries. The Church is a unique dining experience in Dublin city center. I went in the early afternoon on Easter Sunday expecting the place to be completely overrun with tourists but shockingly it wasn't. It's pretty big inside, lots of seating and great decor. Not sure if the organ there is original from the church that actually stood there many years ago, but it looks great. Between that, the stain glass window and arched ceiling you can imagine the time when the church was in it's prime, a priest delivering a sermon or hosting notable events such as the marriage of Arthur Guinness to his beloved Olivia. Okay enough of that. The food was slamming! I had the chicken and herb stuffing sandwich w/ rocket and beet salad and it was damn delicious. You would think "how good can a chicken sandwich be?" But this was the best I've had thus far. I've eaten a lot of chicken sandwiches in Ireland and the Irish know how to make a damn good one okay. Moving on, the menu is a tad pricey, but it's basically like a museum and dining experience in one so support the maintenance of this historical site. You can grab a leaflet in your native tongue and between the hours of 11am-4pm take a self guided tour round the place. Worth it. Oh and they accept Amex cards. You can sit wherever you want also. We had asked around on what the best night out in Dublin was, and we consistently heard about two. They were The Church, and Bank. The general consensus was that the food was better at Bank, but the music was better at The Church. We decided to meet at Bank after we'd had a chance to go back to our hotels and clean up. After my nap, I experienced some kind of brain cramp and punched "The Church" into my navigator and had a nice little walk across the Liffey. When I got there and asked for the reservation under my colleague's name, there wasn't one. Undeterred, I grabbed a seat and listened to some wonderful music while I waited for my friends. I went to the restaurant section which is held on the second floor. The atmosphere was definitely beautiful with its live band and dance performance. At moment I had to take a break from my food and down from the second to look at the performance. I had the three course meal which was 40€. I would have believe it was worth it but unfortunately my main course which I decided to get the sirloin steak was definitely over cooked when I asked for medium rare. My friend and I, who also got the sirloin had a difficult time cutting through our steak. The knife they have given was dull and the steak was sadly tough. This is a tourist place as you would expect. The music and dancing was still good and enjoyable. Good acoustics as it really used to be a church. Amazing architecture and still has many of the church fixtures on the wall which makes it unique. Burger was good but like my wife said our pubs in the US have the same type menu as this one. We were not told that the upstairs and downstairs have 2 different menus serve by 2 different kitchen! Downstairs is a more relaxing environment, they serve mostly bar food like burgers, fish&chip, traditional irish stew etc. Upstairs is more a fine dining menu, food like steak, grilled hen, grilled salmon etc. Upstairs do have an early bird 2 course menu (22.95euro) or 3 course menu (26.95euro) from sunday to thursday 5pm-6pm. They gave us the early bird menu even at 645pm, very nice of them. For starters i got the garlic tiger prawns, 10oz prime sirloin steak (extra 5 euro) for main. I have to say they did NOT overcook the prawn or my medium rare steak! Both were cooked perfectly. The only thing is i find both item lack alittle bit of seasoning. For dessert i got baileys irish cream cheese cake (DELICIOUS!! Perfect balance of baileys!) and a side order of baileys irish cream coffee! This use to be an old church so if you are sitting outside at the patio, make sure you walk in and see the decor! They had live performance going on at 7pm on monday night. Step dancing. This was such a fun spot in Dublin! I've been to some other venues in New York that have converted old churches into bars, music venues, etc. This place was beautiful inside. Stepping inside you are faced with the church bar, we grabbed a seat there as we went to relax for a bit and grab a drink. The wooden bar was gorgeous and we had friendly and prompt service. Decided to order a shot and a drink and we got to chatting. All of a sudden the music got much louder and a show was starting. Two dancers came out to the front area of the restaurant/bar and started step dancing and performing to Irish music. It was so cool to see and really made this place very unique from other bars we went to. The drinks were good here, decent price, and great service. The crowd was friendly and it was a little more upscale of a place, crowd the same, so it didn't get rowdy but it was also high energy and a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this spot! What a great space with so much potential... unfortunately, however, it doesn't meet up to expectations. While I probably wouldn't hesitate to enjoy a beverage at the bar, in the comfy lounge or at one of the many hightop tables, I would also not hesitate to pass on ordering any food. I've been here once for lunch and enjoyed the light bites but this most recent visit was pretty disappointing. The lasagna and BLT we ordered were served so fast it had us wondering... nothing served this quickly can be good. The BLT was smothered in thousand island dressing and served on a ciabatta (?) which was not toasted and pretty doughy. As my friend put it, leave the ciabattas to the Italians! And, the lasagna (which appeared to be microwaved) was 3/4 cheese with only a bit of meat and pasta. We should probably leave this to the Italians as well! And, all that (including two bevvies to drown the taste of the poor meal) came to about $45 ... um, did we just pay for that?! The Church is such a cool spot and such an amazing space - but it may want to find some religion and pray for a new chef. read more

I'm on a mission and will find the perfect wing this year. The church wings come pretty close I have to say. And at 11 euro per portion they had better be good. The huge bowl contained at least 15 wings. You can choose between BBQ sauce and spicy. I went for spicy as usual, but they could have been a little spicier to my liking. They were juice and succulent, and there was plenty of meat on the bones. We also shared a portion of fries. They were limp and luke warm. Ugh, I only ate a few. And my big pet peeve: the mayonnaise came in sachets . Why can bars/ restaurants not just invest in a big jar of mayonnaise and bring it out in a little bowl. Or....make it themselves? It's not that hard Anyway, with sticky greasy fingers, it was almost impossible to open these darn things. frustrating! Service...friendly enough. But taking our order took forever. A place to pray for a good meal and service. Food: mediocre. Nothing to crave or return to. Price: not of value - a bit dear for what you actually get Service: very poor. We were dressed in our "Sunday Best" and seemed to be a bit over-dressed compared to the current crowd. We arrived at 840 and the place was near empty. We inquired if they were closing, but the hostess politely informed us they seat until 10. We were eventually seated, after initial confusion as to where was 'open'. We were placed by the kitchen, which is upstairs. It was from this vantage point we got to witness the kitchen staff be abusive toward one another. Quite romantic! Our waiter was a snob and treated us with disdain and contempt. When we indicated that we were interested in the 60 Euro special for two, which is advertised on a chalk sandwich board outside, he seemed disgusted. He initially told us that they 'normally' stop serving that special at 8:30, but he'd make an exception. Keep in mind this customer friendly service wasn't done with a smile, but apparent irritation and a real heavy sigh. We should of left. The food arrived in a timely fashion. Portions small, bland in taste, and appearance boring. As a previous reviewer stated: faux-classy. The 'basement' is where the toilets are located. The lads and ladies are connected. You can see an unusual bit of 'washroom stratification' as the ladies side is significantly nicer than the lads. For example, the ladies would have automatic water taps, but the fellows would have those annoying push taps. Ladies had automatic soap dispensers - for the fellows it looked like someone went to Tesco and bought a couple disposable soap squirts. At the conclusion of the meal, the waiter assumed I was tipping him an entire 20 Euros and walked away with no apparent intent to return. When he was finally able to be retrieved, he let out a melodramatic sigh (seriously.) Apart from the atmosphere of being in a "church" and having a massive organ in the place, there really is no redeeming quality. Spend your Euros elsewhere. read more

I don't have anything overly negative to say nor anything super positive. I had my dad and sister over for a visit and we went for lunch here. My dad had fish and chips, my sister had nachos and I had a GF burger and everything was alright, it wasn't bad but for the price they charge I expected more. The inside is beautiful and it might be a great place to go out but I am highly unlikely to come back here and eat. That being said the service was wonderful and the food arrived very quickly.
