The Store has an okay location and average customer service. Ryan the owner is nice and personable. Even his wife helps out on events and is friendly to all. I've been here about 3 times over the past few weeks.. I purchased a humidor online and had been waiting for it to arrive.. The person working here told me that I could bring it in when it arrived and they would season it for me for free.. For me that speaks volumes. The fact that they would help me get set up with my humidor that I didn't even buy from them meant a lot. Now I don't know if other shops would do that but I just liked this from the get-go. I'm not a cigar pro so I don't even pretend to know everything. Each person I've spoken to here seems pretty genuine in terms of being helpful and even the locals in the store are friendly. I stopped by here on Saturday, and was really surprised at the selection of the store. There was almost too much selection. I don't know a whole lot about cigars, except that I like them, so I told the guy I was looking for something mildly and naturally sweet, and mildly spice. He provided me to really great cigars. This is my spot to buy Cigars. The prices are fair and the selection is great. They have a great selection of Drew Estate Liga Cigars that I have found hard to find in the Bay Area. I've always had great customer service from whomever is behind the register. Their always helpful recommending new cigars or can give me great information on cigars I love. What can I say about Mission Pipe, I'll start with the shop its self. For me, it's what I think of when I think of a cigar shop. Dark wood humidors and trimming, over stuffed leather chairs, cigar art on the walls. In other words, it's a real tobacconist shop, so no bongs... keep'in it classy. They have a few seats up front by the windows as well as a small lounge in the back. Couple that with a good ventilation system and you have a great place to buy and smoke a cigar. That brings me to the selection. It's worth saying that no cigar shop, at least none that I have ever been to, has every cigar made. Now that I have gotten that out of the way we can talk shop. This place has the usual suspects but what separates them out for me is the boutique lines they carry. They have some unique and hard to find lines that are, dare I say, not to be missed. For my two cents try the Flores y Rodriguez cabinet selection or the Liga Privada no. 9. It's also worth mentioning the Mission pipe also has a large selection of pipes and pipe tobacco. I'm not a pipe guy but if you are it's worth your time. Now for the service. Cigar shops can be intimidating. Especially if you're not an avid smoker. When I started going to this shop I didn't know much and was faced with a decision, pretend like I knew what I was talking about a fake my way through the buying process grabbing the ever present Romeo and Julieta and ducking out the door or fess up to the fact that I was not all that well versed in cigar world and asking for some guidance. I chose the latter and recommend you do the same. The manager, Todd, is extremely knowledgeable and he will take plenty of time to answer all of your questions. The other two employees G and Brian are also very help full and will be more than happy to help you find a good stick that will suit your pallet. Lastly the crowed. This place has a close circe of regulars that includes every walk of life. If you have never been before it's kind of like walking into Cheers. That being said, everyone is friendly and you can normally find some good conversation here. My finial thoughts. Go here, buy here, smoke here! My boyfriend and I just happened to be in Pleasanton last Friday night so while we were in the neighborhood he wanted to check this place out (we live near San Jose so he is more familiar with the Mission Pipe Shop there). We dropped in and found a lively crowd of guys enjoying cigars. There was a packed lounge in the back and a couple of people hanging out in the front. Ryan, the owner helped us out. I'm really surprised by some of the reviews on here because he was really friendly and knowledgeable. His mom has been running the store in SJ for over 40 years so he really knows his stuff. He hooked up my boyfriend with some hard to get cigars as well as some new ones my boyfriend had never tried. We hung out for about 45 minutes and will definitely drop by again next time we are in Pleasanton. read more

I'm not shocked at some of the reviews of the employees, however I'm in disbelief that some people that work there would say ANY of the bad things the reviewers have added. I've been going to Mission for about 6 years now, and I refuse to buy online because of their great customer service. Sometimes you have to take Russ with a grain of salt, but he is an extremely knowledgeable and friendly guy once you get past his outer sarcastic shell. I can't say a bad thing about a single person that works there. They are all great. This is an awesome place. They were very knowledgeable and taught me all there is to know about cigars. All the people that hang out in the lounge are extremely nice. Tvs to watch the world cup. I had a similar experience as a few of the other people reviewing Mission Pipe. I have gone here a few times since I moved into the neighborhood and an older gentleman helped me out. He was nice and helpful and made some good suggestions. Today I was helped by a younger guy who was a complete jerk. He responded to all my questions with an attitude and overall treated me like I didn't belong in his store until I knew a little more about cigars. He alone, has convinced me to try another local cigar shop. After that experience, I drove down the street to another cigar shop that I was aware of but had never gone in and they were MUCH friendlier. The guy who helped me was more than willing to talk to me about other cigars that I have enjoyed and he made some suggestions. I will no longer visit that Mission Pipe. read more

Appearance: The moment you walk in you realize it is a cigar shop. The counter has all the basics from lighters to cutters to pipes. Their is no walk in humidor, rather everything is against two walls from top to bottom. If you live in California you know that cigar shops around here don't have that stereotypical fanciness that people always imagine. People are here to relax, and get away from your problems, so yes most of us are in sweats or shorts...not suits....The lounge is indoors, and sometimes the seating can be limited. Aroma: This place is a cigar lounge. It smells like cigars, so hopefully you don't hold it against the shop. Taste: Can't do this category Menu: This shop is a really good go to type of place. You won't find any fancy St Dupont lighters or $1K humidors, but nonetheless everything here will satisfy the beginner to the aficionado. They have lighters from Xikar, Colibri, and Black Label (as far as I can remember). Their cutter selection isn't that great, but they have the Xikar cutters (all you really need....). I am no pipe smoker, but a lot of people come here for that too, and I've heard nothing, but love for their pipe products. Cigars: PDR, Arturo Fuente, La Flor Dominicana, Ashton, Diamond Crown, Tatuaje, Sencilio, La Palina, Padron, Illusione, La Aurora, sparse Espinosa, sparse Rocky Patel, My Father, Montecristo, Kristoff, etc. These are just from the top of my head. I love their Illusione selection, and their La Flor Dominicana picks. A lot of locals come in for their Fuente selections. Overall: Nothing but love. This is a great, high end, quality shop. I frequent it more now that Todd is there, I met him at a store in Tracy, he's a great guy. He's very knowledgable on cigars but doesn't try to oversell a certain brand. His pallette is pretty amazing to say the least and he's also very friendly which is nice considering I don't always feel that welcome there. The other guy, I think he is the owner (he's always there) can be very rude and he doesn't seem like he cares either way about the customers. One time I waited in line to pay for at least 10 minutes becuase he was telling some dude a story and I guess he couldn't stop to ring me up..kinda weird..he saw me standing there and 2 people actually left, I guess they didn't want to wait... Their pipe and loose tobacco selection is really good as well. Smoking lounge is small but very comfortable and the guys in there are usually pretty friendly. Love this shop. Great atmosphere especially if you like the aroma of cigars. The back room offers two large flat panel TV and Ryan(the owner) keeps the wifi and direct TV going. Get place to get a smoke in and watch the game. Often more times then not Ryan makes it a special point to stay open late when choice teams are playing on TV. Todd, the manager, has a great taste for what you think you might want to try next. Todd is on point got what suits your fancy and he and the rest of the staff is quick to remember your name and especially what you smoke. The events are to not be missed and often happen monthly on Thursday nights. Come easily and be a part of the raffle for sponsored cigars and cool swag! Not sure about all of the negative reviews here...what I can tell you is that the gentleman behind the counter was extremely helpful with his recommendations...but then again, I am a serious cigar smoker who knows what he wants and is looking for...maybe if you go in there with a hollier than thou attitude you get whats coming to you...anyhow, most everything an aficionado could want...Opus X (so rare), Tatuje Black, Padron, etc...was recommended Leon Jimenes Cameroon 2001 (awesome), Liga Privada 9 (who knew DE could do something like that?), and the new Tempus from Alec Bradley...all home runs!! this place is only for cigars. if you want accessories or supplies, this place with is a horrible pick. $7 for x5 refined butane that costs $3 elsewhere. $15 for x11 refined butane that costs $4-5 elsewhere. if you are expecting a normal smoke shop for supplies and etc, go elsewhere. good thing i already purchased my butane torch from elsewhere as their price tags are beyond reasonable prices and they dont provide a receipt (most likely for tax fraud/money laundering purposes since they dont have many customers besides loitering friends of the owner) read more
