Ordered the super platter which came with 2 pints of seafood ( shrimp bay scallops, whole belly clams and clam strips) fish, fries , and coleslaw. It was shared between two persons and we each had enough for leftovers. Enjoyed my meal and it was a gorgeous day so we ate outside. Yep some of the tables could've used some cleaning but for the two hours that we sat there there was a constant traffic of customers. obviously a popular place with the locals and my friends and I were very happy with our meal. The ice cream looked very tempting but we were too full to try it. All in all I enjoyed it and would definitely go back if I were in the area. I found the price to be reasonable. I live about a mile from the Clam Box, so it's a frequent stop year-round when the craving for fried clams takes over. Their prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and their variety is great. They even go above and beyond the usual for this type of place and have an extensive menu of non-fried food. Still, it's hard to pass on their onion rings. I've been here twice, once very disappointed the other time it was OK. I got the scallops which were seriously over cooked, greasy and a poor value. Quincy shore has the best seafood .. makes the clam box look sad. On my second visit I got the cod sandwich. Generous portion (!), it looked great until I took a bite and I could tell had been in the deep freeze for a while =dry really dry (the fish that is). Low quality fried foods, dirty restaurant and bad ice cream make me never want to come back again. I went one night with my family just looking for some junky food to pig out on but was extremely disappointed. I ordered the normal sized lobstah roll and it was so tiny and slightly over cooked. Fries and onion rings were clearly frozen and not fresh at all. My mother got the clam bellies and they were gross and didn't taste like they were cleaned. My brother got clam strips and those were actually good. For desert I got a soft served chocolate ice cream and it tasted off. As for the actual restaurant, every table was dirty. Staff was helpful and cheerful despite the place being full of teenagers and not one adult in sight. Beer is cheap because you need to be drunk in order to stomach this food. read more

My last two visits have been horrible, wife ordered a clam dinner which was way over cooked, and two burgers which were okay! Today gave them another shot and ordered two bacon burgers and some hot dogs! Not my favorite place. Order a fish burg platter and did not get a fork to eat my coleslaw and when looking for a fork found none and had to ask for one. This should be second nature for them to include a fork with platters. Big down side they fo notvtake debit/credit cards and I never have cash on me. Don't go to the clam box in East Brookfield, Ma. The fried fish was beyond "on its last legs". the manager told me she has a great nose and smelled it and it was good. They cooked another 8 oz for a replacement and that was on its last legs. She was smiling. the place is horrible. It used to be good. I wanted something done with the bill because we got a giant seafood platter. She offered me some iced cream in place of 8 oz of bad fish. This person should not be a manager. If I could find the owner, I'd get in touch with that person. No one should get sick from trying bad food and be called a liar and be laughed at. read more

Well, a couple observations.... The fried seafood platter was decent. Cooked and seasoned well. The staff was pleasant. The lobster roll was an embarrassment. I almost laughed out loud when the server put it in front of me. There was only a thin sliver of lobster "salad" on the roll with some lettuce. It did not look anything at all like the pics. If I was blindfolded I wouldn't have even known I was eating lobster it was so little meat - sad. Also, the place was filthy. Had lunch here and was a little skeptical about going after reading some of the reviews. But decided to try it anyways because we have found some of these reviews come from people who have never had good food. The staff is friendly and very informative, the girl who took our order even said she was giving us a senior discount. We ordered the lobster roll the mixed seafood platter and the whole belly clams every plate was delicious. Our grandson ordered the chicken strips which he enjoyed and it was a generous portion. We definitely look forward to going back there in a couple days. We may go back for the ice cream as well. Never had a bad experience at The Clam Box, until tonight. Will probably never return. My mother and I split a Super Titanic Fisherman's Platter. The fish on her side of the platter was rotten. Not "iffy", not "on it's last legs," but ROTTEN. My mother took it back and got a replacement after being told it couldn't be bad because it came in yesterday. So, they basically called her a liar but gave some replacement fish. We only tried one of the replacement fillets and that tasted like I thought the first fish was going to taste like, half rotten, just past it's last legs. It's a restaurant, things happen. If the manager had come out and apologized and taken something off the bill, we might ever go back. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN This thick blond lady came out and squatted down next to our table smiling both with her face and her eyes and said she was sorry we had an unpleasant experience but she was SURE the fish wasn't bad. My mum asked her if she tried it and she said, "No, but I have a very good nose, and I smelled it and I assure you it wasn't bad. I can offer you a couple of ice creams." I grew up on the ocean so I know good seafood and I can safely say, The Clam Box was really good! My husband, who is a really big guy, got the Fish and Chips and a side of onion rings. He ordered the "small" onion rings and you can see from the picture it was really big. They were lightly battered, hot, crunchy and delicious. The piece of fish he got was also very big. He left saying he was "full", something I swear I have never heard him say. I got the crab cakes (and I am very snobby about my crab cakes!) and they were large, flavorful, very crabby and not all bread crumbs like in most other restaurants. I got a "small" side of fries which was also very big. The cole slaw was crisp and fresh tasting. The atmosphere was pleasant, the place was clean, with nice big windows. The wait staff was very friendly and enthusiastically explained menu items when I had questions. Finally, the self-serve soda fountain had the usual Pepsi products but also had plain carbonated water, which I really appreciated because I love soda but can't have sugar. Most places don't have any non-sugar beverages. The Clam Box was a hit and we will be back for sure, even though we live over 40 miles away! read more

My wife and I went there for dinner last night. We each ordered the fish and chips, and also a dozen clam cakes. The bill was over $44. When I called a waitress over to clean our table (it was disgusting), I told her that the menu board said fish and chips was $8.99 and $12.99 for the extra large portion. We were charged $12.99 each. She said to ask for the "regular size". I told her that they really should ask people which size they want when they order. After paying the $12.99, my order of fish had hardly any fish in it. What a ripoff. Oh, the clam cakes were good, plenty of clams in them. Also, the furniture is falling apart. The seats in the booths are not even attached to the base. We have gone here for a long time, but have seen the place go downhill fast in the last few years. It's time to find a new place. read more

I brought my sister here for an early dinner on Tuesday to celebrate her birthday (belated, it was in July but we were unable to go then). Arrived at about 5:30 and snatched the one and only picnic table on their outside deck that had an umbrella. We have no idea why they have only one now (there used to be about 5 or 6 tables, all with umbrellas, now there are only 4 tables in total). Sis ordered the extra-long lobster roll and a small order of onion rings. I ordered a combo dinner plate (the menu claims that you can choose any 2 items from the fried dinner selections and they come with fries and slaw for $18.99). Whole belly fried clams and fried sea scallops were my plate selections. Well, when I went to pay for our order, I noticed that they tacked on surcharges of $4.00 for the clams and $1.00 for the sea scallops to the plate price of $18.99 (making the cost $24.00---a bit high, I thought, for a clam shack such as this). The girl at the counter never mentioned to me that there would be extra charges for certain items and I thought this pretty shabby. I would have ordered this just the same, but would have appreciated being told about it. After paying, we proceeded to get our drinks at the self-serve fountain indoors and then went to sit and wait for our food at our table. We waited for our food for more than 30 minutes. We thought this was ridiculous as the restaurant wasn't very busy at the time, only a handful of other diners sitting inside. We have never waited this long. My sister's lobster roll and onion rings were great, as has always been the case in the past, and my combo plate was fantastic, especially the tender, sweet and succulent fried sea scallops. I was glad I chose what I did despite the surcharges (yes, I shared will Sis). Again, we were too full to sample any ice cream after devouring our meals. We will return to the Clam Box (especially for the lobster rolls), but think that next time we have a hankering for seafood, we may try Howard's Drive-In a little way down Route 9 West in West Brookfield. We'll be comparing Howard's to the Clam Box. read more

If it was possible to give this place a negative star review I would... We went there tonight for dinner. My daughter and I ordered two hamburg dinners @ $9 each. Average price but I have had better burgers at McDonalds! My burger was dry and hard to swallow without LOTS of ketchup. My son had the oversized fish and chips, that was ok at best ($13). My wife had clam fritters & chowder which was $9 and she enjoyed the fritters and the chowder was ok but the potatoes where not completely cooked. We also ordered a pint of sea scallops. The total bill was $65 which means "market price" for a pint of sea scallops was an UNBELIEVABLE $25!!! We waited over 45 minutes to get our food after ordering... When we were done we headed off to get ice cream. Since they advertised free soft serve after 8 on Fridays and Saturdays, we thought why not... Why not? Well because they "ran out" at 8:05... This place was just one disappointment after another right until the very end! We will NEVER go back there and I hope all who read this will consider not going too! read more

I had half of my plate finished before the tarter sauce dispenser was refilled. You'd think they'd have one prepared ahead of time... not as if you are NOT going to use it. In line with other reviews of late, we have seen a steady decline in this place. It used to be one of our favorite places to come but the prices keep going up and the quality keeps going down. The staff is cheerful but the place is filthy. The dining area floor appeared to have been mopped with grease instead soap and water. We got a kids hotdog meal which was fine (they were out of Kraft Mac n cheese? ), a whole belly clam dinner and a sea scallop dinner. My husband and I split the whole bellies because the scallops were disgusting- they had "warned" us that the sea scallops were "wet" meaning they'd be soft not firm but they tasted as if they had been sitting in dirty water for a long time. We were going to get ice creams afterwards since the baby got a free one with dinner but their soft serve machine was broken. Sadly, we won't be back. I once gave a scathing review of this clam box in Brookfield. I now want to give it a great review. Under the new management of Chef Tim and his wife this seafood restaurant has been completely turned around. The vplace is constantly busy and i heard it was under new management so I gave it a shot. I was very pleasantly surprised. Seafood as it should be. Fresh and delicious. Not greasy and soggy. He has also marked off the front parking lot for outdoor tables and live music on Fridays. Way over priced for what you get. $27. for a Whole belly Clam Plate. I travel all over New England and have never paid that much for a Fishermans Platter let alone just clams that were just average at best. Their Fish Sandwich was good tho and the Chicken sandwich was also good. We had a Clam (whole belly)plate, two fish sandwiches and a chicken sandwich with 3 sodas and we split an onion ring and the bill was over $70. Would never complain if it was great but it was not even close to being great. Not enough competition out in the country I guess. read more

I used to really enjoy The Clam Box but it has gone down hill. They stated that there are new owners but it's been the same SUPER SLOW service especially when getting ice cream or milkshakes. I have waited 30 minutes for a milk shake and an ice cream when there were only a couple of people in the restaurant. I have waited an hour for a fried seafood lunch when the restaurant was not busy. The dining room is always dingy and dirty and the seafood can be hit or miss. They are always understaffed and the servers seem undertrained and overwhelmed. You can also hear yelling in the kitchen and a sense of disorganization where the restaurnt is not busy. I went for the last time this week and am going to start taking my business elsewhere. There is another local place that is always packed at night when The Clam Box only has a couple of cars in the parking lot. I guess that sums it up. read more

As a Western Mass native, I used to pass this place all the time when taking the back roads from my hometown of Springfield to Worcester where I went to school. So it only seem appropriate that I stopped here with my friend while road tripping across MA to see the fall foliage (I mean come on, the giant clam box on the roof? awesome!). Actually, even more than the giant clam box (which was a big draw) was the huge banner advertising 24 flavors of soft serve. We ended up stopping only for the soft serve (well I actually got the hard ice cream since they were out of my top 2 choices in soft serve... cheesecake and German chocolate). My co-traveler was pleased with her pick and I as well with mine (cherry moose tracks!). Cute little place for seafood. Lobster roll was pretty good although the bun was a bit dry, and the clams were a bit too crunchy and dry. Not the best clam hut I've been to in New England (there's one in Portland on the water that's excellent, and Bob's Clam Hut in Kittery is also solid), but not bad for western Boston suburbs. read more

A few days ago we were in town visiting family in Sturbridge & decided to give this place a try because it has such good reviews. We had to wait 25 minutes for our food and when it came out, it ranged from just ok to absolutely terrible. The fried clams, french fries and onion rings were ok. My husband said his chicken wrap was bland and chicken was partially burned but he still ate some of it. But the worst was the grilled shrimp that I got. They were absolutely disgusting and completely inedible. The best way I can describe them is imagine taking already cooked/ready to eat shrimp, spraying them with PAM spray, continuing to cook them (way over cooking) and then pouring pure salt on them. I literally gagged trying to eat it. My husband tried one as well and immediately spit it out. Maybe they had a substitute chef that night because there is no way they would stay in business with food this bad. I tried to talk to a manager about the shrimp quality and get a refund on that one item but she made up excuses about it and then said she couldn't give me a refund because the "computer was having issues." read more
