I stopped in this morning to get BLTO (bacon, lettuce, tomato, and onion) on a plain bagel with plain cream cheese and drip coffee. As always, bagel was very fresh, baked to perfection with a chewy interior and a crisp, golden crust. I tried other bagels at this location and every flavor hit the spot. They have amazing homemade schmear that is just so tasty! Perfectly creamy and flavorful! Value seems pretty fair. I spent $13 something for two large coffees, and BLTO (very high quality bacon). I feel like it would be more expensive at other comparable places. The bagel shop itself has a laid-back and welcoming. It's a no-frills, simple, open-space shop with some merch (very cute sweaters and beanies) and counter. Behind the counter you can get a peek of bagel operation, which is pretty cool. Service was very quick especially considering few customers were waiting for their orders. Everyone was called by their name to get their orders, and I had a very pleasant experience as always. While you wait for bagels, there are some shopping opportunities. There's a small "pantry" with Cleveland Bagel Coffee (always perfectly strong), merch (red hoodies and beanies were my absolute favorites), and jams (blueberry chamomile jam!) I'm definitely picking up some jam next time. I regretted not getting any jam while there. I can't wait until my next experience at the Cleveland Bagel! The inside doesn't have any seating and we had to wait a little in line which was expected on a Saturday morning. Just stopped by this morning around 11:30 and got a bacon egg and cheese and a BLTO, the bacon egg and cheese was correct, but the BLTO was nit they just gave me a everything bagel with schemer, so I paid $4-$5 extra to get a $2 bagel with cream cheese so pretty disappointing. The cashier also didn't ring in the food properly at the beginning and I had to correct her. So overall they could use more attention to detail here. The Cleveland Bagel Company on Fairfax is a busy, local spot for fresh, homemade bagels. I tried two of their small selection of bagel options yesterday as I was in the area before their 1pm closing time for once! Honestly, the parking situation makes no sense and made me a bit anxious if I would get a ticket for a $4 bagel experience. This tiny storefront was packed with people an hour before close on a Saturday afternoon of which I'm assuming consisted mostly of locals picking up after-Church people buying their brunch bagels. The staff were friendly and very busy. As an FYI, there is no bathroom nor anywhere to sit. There are a few non-food items available to buy, like stickers, shirts, and spreads. I bought a little sticker of an illustration that looked just like my dog. Very cute! The bagel I ate for lunch was the rosemary bagel and the bagel I saved for the next day was a salt bagel. Bialy's Bagels in University Heights offers a rosemary bagel that is loaded with rosemary. This one just has a light sprinkling. However, their salt bagel was so overloaded with salt, it was a bit overwhelming! Overall, I liked the rosemary bagel the best of the two. Honestly, I liked the bagels and I dug their "homemade" vibe, but I just like other local bagel places more, like Bialy's Bagels, which is also slightly cheaper per bagel. The Cleveland Bagel Company charges $2 a bagel which I think is about $0.50 too much. The honey brie shmear sounded absolutely delicious but as I was already planning on a calorie-heavy dinner that day, I skipped trying their shmear. Hopefully next time! read more

Unless you've been living under a rock, I'm sure you've heard of Cleveland Bagels, termed the best bagels in Cleveland, Ohio. Why is it the best? It must be the Lake Erie water or how the hand make them but whatever it is, they are good. I visited this 2nd location (east side) of Cleveland Bagel Company in October 2020. I came to buy a breakfast sandwich before work. BREAKFAST -- I ordered the Rosemary Sea Salt Bagel which came with egg and bacon breakfast sandwich (I got it with no cheese). It was tasty but it was hard to eat because it was VERY salt. I love rosemary which is why I choose this bagel but the sea salt was overwhelming. I don't recommend this bagel. I'll stick with a plain bagel next time. DRINKS -- They sell water, coffee, orange juice, tea. I ordered a small bottle of orange juice for $2.50 which is definitely expensive but that's all relative to your budget. Still, the bottle size appears to be less than a cup of orange juice. Overall, I know I'll be back to their west side location but I'll get a different bagel. I came to Cleveland to attend a friend's wedding and naturally looked up places for good food online and found this spot! Having lived in NYC for 5 years, I can be somewhat of a bagel snob, and after looking at the reviews of how great the bagels were here, I decided to drive 20 minutes out of the way for it. I placed an order online since we were running late for the wedding and while it showed an ETA of 40-45 minutes, I was able to call and confirm that it would only take 20 minutes to make my veggie bagel sandwich and my friend's bagel with schmear with an added bacon. We went and picked up our order and it was already ready under 20 minutes and brought it back to our hotel to consume. My veggie bagel sandwich was quite delicious. The homemade spicy hummus was delicious and went really well with the lettuce, cucumber and tomato. They also didn't skimp on the avocado which I was really appreciative of. My everything bagel was also pretty good. The consistency was almost spot on, with the exception that the crust could have been a little crispier. The veggie bagel sandwich is also a nice vegan alternative that doesn't feel like you're getting a lesser-quality dish just because it's vegan. If you've had an amazing bagel experience at one of Cleveland's local eateries, chances are high that it originated from The Cleveland Bagel Company. From the bakery selection at Phoenix Coffee to the brunch menu at Toast (and formerly Fire), restauranteurs have long known the allure of a CBC bagel - and you too, can partake straight from the source. This Midtown location seems a bit odd but it may herald forthcoming gentrification with nearby Dunkin' Donuts and replacement of Hot Sauce Williams with another Angie's Soul Food location. It also ends up becoming a nice stop on the West-Eastside commute. A small parking lot is located across the street from the entrance on Carnegie Rd. Inside is just wide enough for a few people to wait in line to order and wait in groups for their order to arrive. There is a small counter near the window, but especially with COVID this is mainly meant to be a takeout business. In true bagel business fashion, CBC opens early and closes early as well - sleep in and you might miss out! The full menu encompasses bagels, coffee (from local roasters Six Shooter), seasonal schmears, and sandwiches. These are dense and moist bagels. Compared with mainstream chains the bagel assortments may seem limited but they are done very well, my personal (and many others') favorite is the Rosemary Sea Salt. Buying bulk is cheaper than individual bagels. These are best eaten fresh - leave them too long without freezing and they'll definitely turn into bricks because there's no preservatives. You can peer into the bakery through the counter and see your bagels being born. Okay bagel - definitely overpriced. Earlier this week I had a bagel from Bruegger's that I thought was great. It was with a firm outer shell, and a soft chewy inside. It was delicious paired with the cream cheese that they provide. I later read online about how ostensibly "great" Cleveland Bagels is supposed to be so I decided to give them a try. I drove to the one on Carnegie right around 9:15 AM on a pleasantly sunny Friday. Upon reading the menu, I was disappointed to learn they didn't offer espresso. A strong espresso with a bagel and cream cheese is one of my favorite treats. So I went with the everything bagel with cream cheese and a small black "drip" coffee. To my surprise this one bagel with cream cheese and small black coffee was $6.00! Yes, that's one bagel with cream cheese and one small black coffee. That's quite a profit margin they're enjoying! The everything bagel had good seasoning, but there wasn't a lot of contrast between the outer shell and the inside. The shell had a decent firmness, but the inside was kind of dry and stale to a degree. I don't understand how it could've been stale already being it was only 9:15 in the morning. There's really no excuse for that. I don't know that I would return. I mean for one it's very expensive. Like I said six dollars for one bagel and coffee is exorbitant. I could've got a decent size breakfast at other cafés for that much. And I feel like the Bruegger's bagel was just a better quality bagel, and tasted better. There is something so special about a freshly made bagel. They don't overwhelm you with a huge variety their bagel flavors or schmears, which is PERFECT. I made my own bagel sandwich on an everything bagel, with the chipotle chipotle schmear with tomato and cucumbers. It was fantastic, but I immediately regretted not getting it on a rosemary bagel. My boyfriend got one of their special bagel sandwiches, which had some pepper jam on it (we're going back to get that jam at some point) and his was mind-blowingly good. I had been driving by this place for two weeks or so and the sign kept popping out to me. As a bagel lover I didn't want to pass up my time in Cleveland without trying them out. I finally stopped in and have now been back because it was so good. Even the bagels in NY were not this good. Love that they toast the insides of the bagel but the outsides are basically left alone. They have their original crisp and it's all you need. Bagel size is hefty and the flavors they have are extraordinary. The everything bagel is packed with so much flavor!! I tried the rosemary bagel just for fun and basically ate it plain. Even my hesitation about plain rosemary on the outside of the bagel was kabashed as I shoved that bagel into my mouth. The eggs for their sandwiches are made fresh to order and we're so soft and fluffy. The amount of bacon on the sandwich is astounding. Not just two slices of bacon randomly strewn, they actually cover the surface of the bagel with bacon. I tried the Steph last week (their specialty bagel) and it was delicious. It was a bit messy to eat and I feel like I missed the heat from the hot pepper jelly. Either not enough or not spicy enough, forgot to look and see which one it was. I can see not adding more of it since it's already hard to eat. The southwest chorizo spread was a delight and added a good layer of flavor to my BEC sandwich. Lately I have had an obsession with bagels and Cleveland Bagel Company has satisfied that craving especially this time around and also when I visited last year. My friend suggested that we try them, and my boyfriend and I happened to try their Rosemary one at a local coffee shop. This time around we went to the storefront and got one of each bagel (minus the sea salt) plus I got a bacon egg and cheese on their rosemary bagel. When that sandwich is made fresh with the cheese and egg spilling out, that is heaven right there. I also really liked their cinnamon cranberry bagel which is their only sweet bagel at the moment. I do regret not trying any of their shmears. Nothing beats freshly made bagels on a cold morning. It took me toooo long to visit the Cleveland Bagel Company shop. I loved their everything bagel I tried at Phoenix and just recently tried the rosemary one fresh from the shop this weekend. I will say the flavoring is amaze, but if you're not into doughy fresh bagels this isn't for you. ALL of the bagels are vegan and in store they make a variety of vegan breakfast sandwiches with sausage, etc. as well as non-vegan versions. There is a vegan shmear that is nut (I believe cashew) based or fake butter. Will be coming back and/or scooping more bagels from the local coffee shops that carry. Cleveland Bagel Company is one of my favorite breakfast/brunch spots in the city. You'll quickly recognize when you're in one of their two local locations by their signature modern, sleek interior design and chalkboard font menu. The menu is small but mighty. CBC knows what their specialty is and sticks by it--no trifold menu, no excess frills. Their bagel selection is bold. If you're asking for a certain flavor bagel, know that they are not kidding around. The everything bagel (my personal go-to) is gonna pack on the everything seasoning, the salt bagel will have a lot of salt, etc. I'm not saying this is an objectively good or bad thing--just know it going in. The rotating Special bagel has become my regular order and they surprise me every time. Oftentimes it has avocado, egg, jam, etc. Always delicious. Their bagel menu is supplemented by a coffee menu shown on the lefthand wall accompanied by a couple merchandise items as well. CBC is great at marketing and isn't afraid to show it. The only thing keeping me from giving CBC a full 5/5 stars is its inconsistent service. Don't get me wrong--the employees are always some of the nicest people I've interacted with. However, there's some days where I'm in and out in 5 minutes, and others when I'm there for 20 minutes, regardless of the size of the crowd. As a breakfast spot, I am often visiting CBC prior to other scheduled events and the spotty timing of the service can make it difficult for me to plan when to pick up the food. For instance, on my most recent visit, I waited 15 minutes for a single bagel and saw two people behind me in line get their orders before me. If this small issue was solved, Cleveland Bagel Company would be a complete all-star breakfast venue. read more

Literally every time I come here and order more than one bagel, at least one of the bagels is not mine. It's actually ridiculous.

What defines the concept of the Cleveland bagel itself is a mixture of all the tastiest aspects of what I think of in a bagel. It's a not so doughy interior that is beautifully chewy with a shiny, slightly crunchy exterior that lingers of the scent of freshly baked grain. I'm biased as a Clevelander, but really, I'm talking to you. You should try it. Their cream cheese base is rich, thick and creamy and nearly overwhelms additions. The strong flavors of thyme, black garlic and horseradish were extremely well balanced, a hint of thyme and strong garlic first with a slightly spicy kick from the horseradish. Together with the lettuce, red onion, tomato and bacon, it was an excellent pairing. If you're someone who doesn't like lettuce or tomato in your BLT, I would ask for extra of the fresh veggies to balance out the saltiness of the bacon because otherwise with the cream cheese, it could be too rich. The sea salt bagel could've used less salt morsels, and that specifically being with the Brie honey walnut, drowned out the subtleties in the cream cheese. I tasted the cream cheese alone, and wonder if more honey, or just a Brie walnut schmear with a honey drizzle would've been better suited. Expect more savoriness than sweetness. Its a simple walk in and out sort of place, a small bar in together with the line. I thought three short bar stools would be nice for those who wanted to stay around, but it's saying take out at the moment. I got a recommendation for the rosemary bagel, so I'll be back for more bageling (Oxford, adopt me)! read more
