I had rocked a mullet (picture Mick Jagger) for a while and became tired of how high maintenance it was, how hot it made my head feel, and the longer length in general. Conversely, I became quite attached to my hair and knew that if someone were to change it, they'd have to do a great job. I had been going to a male barber for a while, but wanted to let a woman work on me to get a different perspective. Executive Haircut by Monica is the solution. I found Monica by reading about hairstylists in my area (WC; East Bay). Aside from great reviews, I got a good feel for her to trim off all my precious hair. When I walked in, I was greeted by Monica, who lead me into her salon. It's a small and cozy corner in the Phenix Salon Suite, and lowkey feels like entering another world separate from the busy WC main road. I would describe Monica as socially intelligent, funny, friendly, and unique. She's a good conversationalist, making you feel comfortable to open up about yourself. I can tell she has a lot of life experience, and she often offers advice/wisdom to me as a younger, 20-something man just trying to navigate life. I also enjoy how she remembers details about you; every time I go, it's like our conversations resume where they left off. The first time I was there, she could tell I was quite nervous, and we discussed what I had in mind. I showed her some photos of some general ideas; she told me to trust her, which I did (reluctantly). Snip, snip, snip, and away my mullet went. She has a very calming presence, and while she effortlessly did her work, we got to know each other. Monica has the uncanny superpower to know what will look amazing on you based on your head shape and demeanor ("vibe" as some people say). Often, as a man, I don't know what will look good on me, especially in a dating and professional context. My friends and family, while well-intentioned, don't have the insight to tell me what is good or bad looking. Monica cuts right to the chase (pun intended lol) and will get you looking you best, and you should trust her judgement especially if you're a lost guy looking for a hairstyle that looks good on you. After receiving a hot towel, scalp massage, neck massage, and other forms of grooming (all worth it by the way), you come out feeling like a new man. She's an expert in making you feel supreme. I was not used to have shorter, textured hair, but Monica assured me it looks great. I looked in the mirror and smiled, because I agreed. The results started to speak for themselves. I received compliments for the first time in my entire life about my haircut. Feeling invisible around women at times, I noticed that women I'd pass on the street would smile at me and even compliment me on my hair. Coworkers, friends, and strangers all seemed to like the new haircut Monica came up with for me. I'm still working on dating and other life milestones, but the positive feedback I received definitely helped me with my confidence and sense of masculinity. Monica is a great hairstylist who is easily worth her price tag. I'd go to her if you want results in your dating or professional life, or just want to look your best in general. I made sure to use photos of people with his same hair length and texture as my sons so the results would be attainable. The haircut came out much shorter than the pictures we brought. It Looked much different. I personally loved how it came out better than how my son wanted it. I was nervous as we left thinking my son hated it. My son was a bit disappointed because he wanted the hair longer in the back. It took him a few days but he ended up being very happy with his haircut and said it was the best style he's ever had! It was much less maintenance than how it would have been if it were like the style in our photo we brought. My sons self esteem improved each day he had time to adjust to the haircut. A week after his haircut....i saw him checking himself out in mirrors every time he passed one. he was very happy with Max's work. It was a pricey cut but the shop was very nice and clean and Max was very professional and welcoming. Worth every penny. Although it wasn't what we asked for it was definitely better when it came to ease of styling and matched my sons head shape and hair pattern. Max knew better than we did! i tipped him 50% of the cost of the cut and would highly recommend him to all.

On Wednesday around 2pm I walked into The Clip Joynte Barber Shop. I was greeted with a "what's up" and told it would be about 20 minutes before I could get my haircut. So I sat down, and proceeded to wait to get my haircut. As I started to read a magazine I overheard the barber talking about something that I thought was inappropriate conversation. Besides the foul language, there were a lot of references to drugs. I was very offended, but I do understand that this subject manner is popular with the young crowd, that was in and hanging around the shop. After about 15 minutes of this, a man came in smelling like marijuana. He whispered something to the barber. The barber (who I still don't know his name) finished the gentleman's haircut that he was working on when I arrived. Then he told me he "needed a break," and went outside and proceeded to smoke drugs right outside the door with his friend. By this time I had enough! I got up and left and will never return to this place of business. After I had left I called the better business bureau and filed a report with the walnut creek police department. I have two small boys and could never take them to a place like this. I initially went here because of some of the great reviews from yelp, but I don't think that these reviews are totally accurate. I hope for this business that this barber is not the only one that works here, because if he is, this business won't be in business to much longer. Especially with this type of unprofessional and disrespectful behavior from this particular barber. I understand now why they call this place the clip "Joynte" read more

Freddy is brilliant at cutting hair short, but not so good with longer hair. Also, his personality is quite abrasive. For instance, if you're a parent wanting to tell him how you'd like your child's hair cut, he makes you feel like an intruder. And if the haircut doesn't turn out how you'd like it and you ask him nicely if he could change it, he makes you feel like you have no business telling him how to do his job. Plus, he sometimes allows his friends to move to the front of the line after you've already been waiting in line for a haircut. He doesn't seem to understand that its his customers who have to walk around for weeks with their haircut, so he should be listening to them (or to the parents who are paying him). read more

As you can see with other reviews, Freddy doesn't know how to handle booking people on his schedule, then ends up being rude to you at the door. I'll just leave a tip for Freddy, if you want people coming back, show some respect and don't be rude. I spoke with Freddy on the phone and asked him if I could do a walk on, he told me to be there before 5:30 as his employee was going to leave after he cut my hair. I show up at 5:15 and he tells me that I'm not being cool by coming in this late..what? This wouldn't have been that big of a deal, I get it, people have to leave and go, etc...but Freddy came off as a complete ass and was extremely rude. read more

The very first time I saw Freddy back in Pleasant Hill, I was looking for something new. When I walked in, he said "how can I make this the best haircut you've ever had." And I thought anyone that can be that cocky about hair has got to be good. He didn't disappoint. It's been a couple years now and I've followed him to the Creek and recommended him to my friends. His shop is a nice blend of old school barber with contemporary touches. Since he doesn't take reservations, don't bother going in on Friday afternoon. He's packed! Came in yesterday and got a haircut from Freddy! Never been here before and didn't know exactly what I wanted but neither was an issue. Freddy was immediately accommodating helping me figure out a style I liked and he absolutely nailed it. I don't think I've ever walked out of a haircut being as happy with the results as I was, and although I live in Livermore I fully intend to make the trek out any time I need a haircut. Fast Freddy is the best. I have been looking for a good hair cut for years in this town and one night while talking to Felix at Havana, I commented on his hair cut. He told me about Freddy and how great his cuts are and where the shop was. I have gone there ever since and have turned him onto easily 10 other people. This is the place if you want a single blade shave, or a perfect every time fade. He is open from 8am to 8pm Tuesday to Saturday, and you will not be disappointed. Thanks Freddy. read more

So ok, I stumbled into the clip joynte like a week ago. This clean ass cat named Freddy Prince Jr faded me up soo clean that my ID doesn't work anymore, my girlfriend said I was too good for her and broke up with me, I had to sit at the back of the plane on my flight to Vegas because my fade was "distracting" the pilots :( Then to top it off, I found out it takes 6 months for Freddys fades to grow out (some new kinda space age clippers I guess) Thats why I docked him 1 star. read more
