I can't stand restaurants that screw you on coffee over brunch or breakfast. If I order a specific coffee like a lattte I expect to be charged for each coffee. If I order decaf coffee I expect to be charged for one not for every refill. I realized that I'd been charged 5x after paying and took the unusual step for me of going back and they fixed it! Hurrah. I've only gone to the GOLDEN BAR (the bar at the clocktower). It was expensive for the taste. Didn't fancy it much, but ambiance was good.

It's places like this that makes me happy to be a New Yorker. Really great setting (used to be a boardroom, waiting room, and library), with friendly, attentive staff, and very thoughtfully prepared food at non-ludicrous prices. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal and was very happily surprised with the bill. Unpretentious yet tastefully done, a standout addition to the city. read more

The Clocktower has a beautiful dining room, full of old world charm with the cherry wood panels, gold frames covering any unused wall space, and delicately carved ceiling details. From the brunch menu, the mac and cheese with mushrooms and ox cheek and the king grab sandwich were the favorites of the table. The fish and chips used a more delicate fish than typical haddock (I think, it's not described on the menu), which was pretty good as well. The skate had a muddy taste, but I think that's just the nature of the skate and not the chef. For dessert, the pistachio soufflé was excellent. The pistachio essence is not a sauce, but is whipped into the egg white before baking, so the soufflé turned out a beautiful green color. Minor complaints: our waiter was very amateur (seemed nervous and took orders from the guys at the table first) and the coffee arrived really slow (after the entrees). read more

I really wanted to love this place but they didn't give me enough reasons to love them at all. I believe that the decoration is spot on, the menu promises enchanting dishes but falls short of the promise and I can definitely find a more attentive service at a McDonalds. I ordered the Uni risotto which was well balanced in terms of flavor and the consistency was right on point, a great opening for sure; my next course was the North African spiced lamb which was flavorless and with more fat than meat, not what you expect for a $42 entree. The waiter was lost in space, I had to chase him down to order wine and he managed to drop the plates on the table without even explaining the dish or ask if I needed anything else. At the end I decided to skip dessert, just to avoid interacting with someone that clearly doesn't understand the basic rules of service, and move on to do better things with my life. The Clocktower might be a hot spot in the city, but if they fail to deliver on the food and service on balanced proportions they might have a very cold season ahead. read more

Wow!! A near perfect meal... We had great Bread, a very fresh perfectly seasoned Beef Tartare with Bone Marrow, a very nice Uni Risotto, a perfectly executed Duck A L'Orange, and a truly delicious Mac & Cheese made with Morels and Beef Cheeks. For Dessert, a stunningly perfect Apple Tarte Tatin for two, a la mode. And the atmosphere and service were cool, not at all stuffy. OMG talk about HYPE. When does this BS in NYC ever gonna stop. The food is so awful the salad tasted like Pledge.... OK I never tasted pledge but because of the smell I know what it tastes like and that tastes like pledge. I cannot believe sophisticated people like New Yorkers go for this sh.... I can handle pretentious for 1 sec if the food is fab, but really when the food so not fabbbbbbb then waiting 1 minute longer than the time I booked my res is wayyyyyy toooooooooo long. The service was terrible and the food was okay. This was a big disappointment and I was expecting so much more. Since the minute we were seated, it seemed the waiter didn't want us there. He didn't give me a menu, but gave one to my male partner which was odd. It could be a slip of the mind but for the prices and what the restaurant is trying to present, it didn't seem acceptable. We finished our appetizers and he gave us the dessert menu before we received our main dish ( which was the duck for two). Again like he wanted us to leave. At that point the manager or someone got involved. When the duck was finally served, it was completely cold. We returned the food and left. I can't believe we had to pay for this meal thankfully they didn't put the cold duck on the bill. It was a terrible experience. For the prices and vibe they are trying to pull off The staff should care about their patrons. The shake shack outside in the park would have been better service and hot food. read more

Went on a Wed. night around 8:45pm. Ambiance is great. Good music selection and a buzzy atmosphere, without being loud. The cocktails, P&Q soda and chocolate mousse dessert were exceptional. The hostesses were lovely, and helped me find a lost earring. My only complaints: My main course. While the halibut was cooked nicely, the sauce was bland. Also, general presentation was good, but the tables are too small for some of the elaborate platters they are serving on (like the glass fish platter for the scallop crudo). Overall - I'd go again, especially for the cocktails. read more

Amazing food and great atmosphere, came with a group of 4 to celebrate a friend's last night in NYC before leaving permanently for Europe. The steak tartare was excellent, as was the mac & cheese. A fireplace was roaring on a hot night in Sept, but overall the environment was cozy and warm, with extremely high ceilings and tons of eclectic celeb and artist photos on the walls. read more

Definitely not cheap, but can't complain! I had the risotto, skirt steak, and pistachio soufflé, and they were all fantastic. The real standout, though, was the "Dill or No Dill" cocktail. Recently opened, this is a new restaurant from the Starr Group. It is in the Edition Hotel at the clocktower of the former Met Life building at 5 Madison Park. The space is paneled with an eclectic gallery of photographs of artists and celebrities. The music is trendy. The Goldleaf bar is a half round bar next to the Pool table and is warm and inviting. Service was good and very friendly. Drinks range from 8-16 for the most part. Dinner was in adjacent rooms with similar sort of decor. One room has a fireplace. Service was over the top and very accommodating and attentive. Food was excellent and presentation was great. I tried a few dishes including the lobster, the risotto and the radish salad. I also ordered the bone in Sirloin Steak. While all the dishes were very good the Uni Risotto was a stand out. The Steak was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Prices are on par with fine dining restaurants. This is a wonderful place to go for a romantic dinner or a business dinner or just a drink after work. Definitely they are going for the Michelin star so time will tell. Check it out before it gets too busy. read more

I went in for a group lunch, and it was a very cool experience overall. The ambiance is chic and has the vibe of a hip British pub. The food was also excellent and creatively presented. The cocktails include random ingredients like chicken stock or buttermilk, which I wasn't sure what to make of. People at the table who ordered cocktails had rave reviews though. The green circle chicken breast entree was surprisingly amazing- the chicken was very tender and it came with a delicious chicken jus. The uni risotto was good, but slightly too pungent and salty. I must say that my favorite part was the dessert - the strawberries and cream and grapefruit sorbet are both highly recommended! They also provide a cute metal tin of complimentary desserts filled with shortbread, toffee, and chocolate-covered brittle at the end of the meal. All were amazing as well. This place lives up to the hype and is worth checking out! read more

A beautiful clubby upscale set of three dining rooms filled with great photos and wonderful archeticual details. The rooms are a smaller take on Berners Tavern in London which is physically one of the Great eating halls in the world. The food is interesting and beautifully executed.The menu is varied and the dishes are close to perfect.The summer tomato and radish salad was stellar.The lobster in shell was divine. The king crab leg was tasteful but small with caviar eggs and a mayo that added dimension. The bread and salted butter served was as good as it gets. As far as mains the ravioli was ethereal,the burger perfect and the halibut sublime. Desserts were even better- the Tart Tarine for two could have fed four and the pistachio soufflé was as good as we ever had. Our service was fabulous and knew every detail and was extremely helpful.The noise level was excellent as well. The only reason for four stars rather than five was the pricing on all the liquor. Single Malt scotches were a good 25-35% higher than other restaurants and the wines by the glass were very overpriced.At the upper end of the wine list the pricing was unconscionable -$1450 for Bryant 2012....4 times retail! So go and eat your heart out.The food is terrific but be prepared to pay steeply to drink. read more

Clocktower is so desperately seeking that Michelin star (or two)... but chef Jason isn't there just yet. The food was amazing and the dishes were very well thought out. Acclaim should go to the saucier - all the sauces we tried were out of this world. The proteins were just a tad overcooked (that goes for the halibut and rabbit). And there were a lot of servers, but not whole lot of service - we definitely felt unattended at times when we wanted small things from the staff (such as ordering a second drink before our entrees came out, and not halfway through them). Overall, I would highly recommend Clocktower - the experience, food, ambiance are all worth the dining experience. read more

New Yorkers clearly have not caught on to the Jason Atherton phenomenon. That means an easy reservation, for now, of quite amazing food. The nouveau scotch egg was simply amazing. Not sure on the name but the foie gras, velute and umami quail was simply stunning. Worth going for this alone. The lobster, fennel and apple salad was equally amazing. With the starters blowing us away we were admittedly nervous about the mains. Discerning wife got the duck and I ordered the pork chop. Both were excellent with the duck taking the win on complexity and depth while the pork chop was pure classic with apples and crackling. We anxiously await coming back for round 2 of the appetizers and to try the highly recommended fish. Can't wait. read more

Norman Rockwell would be proud that he inspired such beautiful decor along with scrumptious food. The service was impeccable. We were greeted with glasses of champagne for our birthday dinner. We were seated right next to the beautiful fireplace so cozy. We had the Berners tavern Mac and cheese, delicious what a different take on Mac and cheese. Your gonna have to try it to know what I mean. I had the Santa Barbara uni which was amazing as well. We split the 40 day aged cõte de boeuf. It was cooked to perfection.
