We were seated right away. Our server brought us water and took our order quickly which was good because we were starving. I ordered the winter salad but they brought the watermelon salad by accident. It looked good so I kept it. I added salmon to the salad. The lettuce was fresh, the watermelon was sweet and firm and the ricotta was creamy. It all came together perfectly. The salmon was nicely cooked and tasty. My daughter enjoyed the lamb shepherds pie. The potatoes on top were nicely browned and crisp but creamy inside. The stew was delicious The server offered us a free dessert due to the salad mix up! One of my teammates happen to be British so it got his stamp of approval for the establishment being legit. All of the tables were taken, so we went to the bar, where there was available seating along the wall. We had to order our food and drinks at the bar, but they did bring out the food to serve us. I tried their Old Speckled Hen ($10), which is a legit British beer not owned by AB-Inbev. Since it's very hard to find a place to get this, I had to give it a try. Not bad I must admit. Foodwise, I got the classic Fish & Chips ($29). The filet is pretty decent sized and thick. Could use a bit more tartar sauce. Filling and satisfying. read more

I've been to this place like almost over 8 years ago and recently came here on a date. We had an amazing waitress. Her name's Melody, and she was attentive and cordial. The food was good. We had the scotch eggs and the wings. My date was hoping we would get the snug room, which is sort of a private dining experience for 5-6 people. Book ahead to get it. After speaking with the waitress and requesting for it. She said she would try to see it and she gave us the room! She's truly amazing! Even though my date didn't work out, I still had an amazing experience here, thanks to the staffs especially the waitress who made my day! In a city full of so many restaurants, trying to make a decision on where to go can be very time consuming. The price and the options for the prix fixe made this decision easy. On the restaurant's website, it advertises the lunch special and a link to making a reservation. With a lunch special for $20, I figured it would be crowded and went ahead and made a reservation for 2:45pm. I got there around 2:30pm (the entrance is actually below street level) and the place was completely empty. Kind of good for me as I didn't have to wait until my reservation time. I sat at the bar and the bartender greeted me right away. He gave me the menu, mentioning the lunch special. I already knew I was ordering that, so there was no need to look. For my appetizer I went with the French Onion Soup and for my "entree" I went with the Fried Fish Sandwich. The soup was excellent. A fair amount of melted gruyere, perfect amount of onion and bread and the broth flavor was spot on. Out next was the fish sandwich. This was cod which was lightly battered. It came out piping hot. Not too much tarter sauce and lettuce. It was very good. You know what would have made it over the top? Perhaps a slice of cheese. Unfortunately, I didn't think of that until afterwards. The only downfall was that they did not have brewed iced tea. I went with a Diet Coke. This was a perfect and affordable lunch. read more

I asked for them crispy, but what I got was closer to the texture of a sad fried potato with an identity crisis. Hot but soft, limp, and utterly devoid of crunch. I gave each fry a mournful glance before abandoning hope. The wine program? Meh. It's there. If you're expecting to be dazzled, don't. I mean, who doesn't LOVE a stellar burger with a thoughtful red wine option? Talk about LIVING! But hey, you'll at least have something to wash down the sodium avalanche. Overall, it's a good spot with great vibes, but someone in the kitchen needs to EASE UP on the salt shaker and invest in a dictionary to pin the definition of "crispy." This place is unlike most bars in Midtown and is all the better for it. This bar sits below street level and certainly has the feel of a British pub without the feeling that it is trying too hard. The bar area is warm with wood rafters and softer lighting. The bartender who greeted us was extremely nice and accommodating. I really appreciated the selection of UK beers on tap. We ordered the spiced nuts, pickle jar, the pickled English cheese, the Scotch egg, the fish & chips, and the bangers & mash. Everything was fantastic here. The nuts/pickles/cheese came out first. We had skipped lunch working sn event do we were starving and these bar snacks hit the spot. The cheese was especially good with the fresh rosemary added to it. Nestled under The William Hotel and not crowded like every other bar in the area, this is the definition of a hidden gem. The British decor and rustic walls made me feel like I was back in London. It's dimly lit and romantic, even, but it's buzzing just enough that it's not awkward if you're not here for a date. It's a great place for conversation and food. I got the steak and mushroom pie, which comes with mashed potatoes. I loved this pie so much! It's oozing with sauce and the steak is cooked so well. We shared the sticky toffee pudding, which also knocked it out of the park. The pudding is both sweet and bitter, and so warm. The fries were definitely homemade and authentic like a true chip British style. My friend ordered the traditional fish and chips which was pricey for the portion she received.
