After waiting for the hour we asked how long it would be till we received our pizza, or did we need to cancel the order and leave, due to needing to be somewhere. Owner was in the kitchen and was rude and said "I want to leave too." Unacceptable on many levels. Will NEVER return to this establishment, owner cares MORE ABOUT TAKE OUT ORDERS THAN THE PEOPLE IN THIER RESTAURANT. Keep in that in mind if you choose to come here. Ambiance is dark and a bit moody. Such a fantastic experience! Our first visit to the Clover bar we heard the tales, but wanted to try it out for ourselves. We sat at the bar and were warmly greeted. The interior is comfortable and just what you expect from us long-standing restaurant. To start we got a full antipasto salad and then a sausage and mushroom to split. The anti-pasta salad was amazing. Heaped high with cheese and toppings. The lettuce was crisp and he was kind enough to give us both regular Italian and creamy Italian for our taste preferences. The pizza followed shortly after and was utter perfection. Crispy, thin crust well flavored sausage and just the right amount of toppings. Honestly, I remember this place being a lot better than it was tonight. The pizza was decent at best. Nothing to write home about. Our server was very nice, but a problem that I had, was with our party of 8, they brought out one person's food 10 minutes before the rest of it. The pizza was really bad. They must have changed their recipe. No flavor and crust was spongy except for the outside pieces.

SUMMARY: I probably won't be back, but it was fine for lunch. The service here was fine. Quick, attentive, very casual. The food was sort of...eh. The breadsticks were fine, just breadsticks with an icing poured into the top. The pizza was also...fine. Without the parmesan and pepper flakes, it would have been quite bland. The best part is the crust stayed crunchy/crispy, which is better than we experienced when we tried Fricano's. But really, it was a disappointing pizza. The prices really aren't justified here. They're clearly not investing in the building itself -- it still has it's original "character" from whenever it was built -- and the food doesn't make me feel good about spending over 19 bucks after tax on the pizza. Compare this to a place like Buddy's, and you'll realize that those prices could get you something worthwhile. Other reviewers say the pizza used to be better. I think it would have to have been for this place to stay in business for so long and to have any sort of following at all. I wouldn't recommend this place or bring someone from out of town. Very average pizza that used to be the best in town. I have great memories coming to Clover Bar with my grandparents and spending all my time playing in the arcade while we waited for our pizza. Now the prices have become crazy expensive and the pizza doesn't even seem remotely the same. Even the arcade costs a lot more. There are plenty better options in town for pizza but Clover Bar will always hold many memories growing up. read more

We had been on a quest for a very late lunch. We had been to 3 other places that were closed for one reason or another. We decided on Clover Bar because I'd never been and my Mr had fond memories of it from years before. I/we were not disappointed. We basically cut the ribbon, 2 of the first patrons in the door for the day. We grabbed 2 seats at the bar so we could catch the second half of the Army Navy game. The gent tending bar was friendly and efficient. We ordered a medium Clover Deluxe (sausage, pepperoni, green pepper and mushroom). It was SO good! To be clear, anyone who has left this place anything other than a five star review just did not know what they were getting into. This is an amazing local pizza joint, that serves absolutely delicious food. You absolutely will wait at least 30 minutes (if not 45 minutes) for your pizza, particularly when they are busy, but it is worth every moment when you sit back, enjoy your drink, and talk with the locals. Forget one of Grand Havens best... this is one of Western Michigan's best pizzerias. The staff, though frequently slow, is always pleasant. Even in their off hours/season, we've sat 10 minutes + for a waiter/waitress to come take our order. They might not have the best lighting and, it probably isn't the cleanest restaurant in Grand Haven. But, it's a bar and none of that matters once we get our Pizza... we've been coming here for years and have never been disappointed with the quality of our food. Great thin(ish) crust, tavern styled pizza, cut into squares, that never ceases to be delicious. If you're planning on dining in then I'd give it a 4/5 because... you'll probably wait a while. If you're taking it to go/delivery then it's a solid 5/5. This would be an easy 5/5 if they could over come their inconvenience of slow service. Pizza and anti pasta salad are both great, beer selection is pretty good, but the "game area" really irritates me. Games are over priced and most are scamming "claw machines" that do nothing but waste money. Came here for dinner last night and although I HATE the physical space/building i.e. not a single window, very dark inside, furniture although decent shape is from the 70's at best. But I digress, the pizza was actually very good and timely. Having said that it was very slow there and did take a while so I could see if it's busy how it could take quite a while but didn't happen to us. Service was fine and quality of pizza is maybe 7/8 out of 10. Would for sure go back but to be honest if it was busy I wouldn't stay, only because of so many comments I've read about timing. I went on-line, ordered my pizza via telephone. Told to pick up in 45 minutes. When I went to pick it up, it was ready....but the price was higher than the website. When I explained the website price vs. the price I'm being charged, I was told: "that website hasn't been updated in over a year" No apologese, no price break. Reluctantly paid and got the hell out.
