Pleasant 33 miles, over an hour drive & it was worth every minute. Outstanding authentic Chippy food..We even took home some Take & Bake Pies... It's clean and oozes charm. The staff are so nice & helpful. Nothing is a problem for them. I noticed they have a very nice long bar, which is fully stocked. Parking a breeze. We stopped in at The Cod Father and it did not disappoint. I went with the half fish and chips while my hubby got the full-size portion--both were large, piping hot, and freshly fried with a nice crispy batter. The fish was flaky and delicious, and the chips were spot-on. Portion sizes are generous, ordering was quick and easy, and our food hit the table in about 10 minutes. We love the Cod Father!!! We have been several times since they opened the new location in Nexton and it's been awesome every time! Our kids loved the British decor and high top tables. There is a full bar separate from the restaurant with equally cool theming. The service was excellent and the kind people working there answered all of our questions about the ingredients in the meat pies. We ordered several orders of fish and chips and a sausage roll. The fish is so fresh and crispy, the house made tartar sauce is the best I have ever had! The portions are huge and definitely could be shared. The second time we went, we decided to try the Chicken curry pie and it was just as delicious with a flaky, buttery crust and warm and creamy chicken curry yumminess inside! With Codfather selling it's Park Circle location we are fortunate to have Codfather Nexton to still find great fish and chips. The restaurant is roomy and decorated with both English staples and salutes to local first responders. Unlike its originator they cook their fish to order so there may be a slight wait, but it is very much worth it. When I go, I like to order the Tennet's lager which is smooth and crispy and full of flavor. Instead of chips we tried the Manchester Special which are their famous chips with gravy and cheese. The gravy was rich and savory with plenty of ooey gooey cheese. Perfect on a cold winter's day! We tried the Battered Sausage which had a large smokey sausage fried golden brown. It was ok but I wished the sausage was spicier but that's just me. I have never had a Doner Kebob, but I discovered that it is basically a gyro. Now I went with the standard lamb with onions, lettuce, and tomatoes with a feta spread and tzatziki sauce, but you could also order different sauces and toppings. All in all, a pretty decent gyro with lots of meat. Finally, you can't come here and not try the fish. Nicely battered and cooked to a perfect golden brown this filet really hit the spot. We may be losing Park Circle but at least Codfather lives on in the Nexton area! read more

Best fish and chips I've tasted since moving from England. The mushy peas and curry sauce are exactly how I remember them back home. I've tried so many "English-style" fish and chip shops up and down the East Coast, but nothing comes close to this place. The cod was perfectly coated and cooked, and served hot. The tartar sauce is not the run of the mill product. Nice dill flavor that supplemented the fish rather than attempting to take over the taste. Slight resemblance to the sauce used on gyros, but better. The chips were all hot and firm on the outside. Not a lot of salt natively, which is an excellent, in my book, way to handle potatoes. Lots of places salt the heck out of them, which lives me thirsty but not sated. Really good choice. On the table were all the accoutrements you could wish for from salt, pepper, ketchup, malt vinegar, hot sauce, etc. along with a roll of paper towels. If you're looking for a fancy place, this ain't it. It's laid out and designed to look like a low key British take-away place. That's the perfect choice. Dipped with the tartar sauce and you get the perfect bite! They also provide malt vinegar and hot sauce if you wanted some different flavors. I personally love the sausage roll even though my boyfriend isn't a fan. It's flaky and has a nice herby, meaty taste. The meat and potato pie isn't bad - the crust is flaky although I don't think the filling was anything memorable. I visited today around lunch time. As soon as I walked in I could smell the aroma of the food, it smelled delicious and you could tell it was cooked to order. I ordered the half portion of fish & chip. The portion size was generous. The food wasn't heavily seasoned which I really liked. The fish was flakey and piping hot, the batter was light and airy. The fries weren't anything to write home about and I actually found a hair on one of mine. This was very disappointing because I was super excited to try this place and never had the opportunity to make it to the North Charleston location. I called to let the manager know that I'd found a lighter colored or blondish hair on my fries and he said "We don't have any one with Blonde or light colored hair working here". This was a turn off, He went on to ask what I'd like them to do about it? Perhaps this was his way of asking how he could remedy the situation for me, but his delivery, and the way he handled the situation could have been better. He ended up preparing another portion of fish for me due to the problem that I experienced with my initial order (I advised him that I didn't want any more fries and now have a fry phobia) Overall the fish was good, and the tarter sauce that accompanied it was very flavorful. Not my first time to this business and it won't be the last. This time I came to their Nexton location which fits right in with the high end feel of the shopping center. The staff were friendly and ready to serve us their famous fish and chips and offer other tasty recommendations as well. We ordered a personal beef pot pie too. There is even a full bar in here so you can get the perfect pint to go with your crispy fried fish. They even offer drink specials on "Thirsty Thursday" so you get the best bang for your buck and get to try multiple delicious drafts. The feel was high energy but not frantic.
