We have visited this diner before and was looking forward to our breakfast. They were steady but not overly busy and our wait time was less than 5 minutes, that was a plus. Our server had approximately 5 tables but handled it well. After placing our order, we waited, waited, waited for about 45 minutes, our server came apologize and finally the food. I was looking forward to biscuits and gravy and when the food came out the manager came and apologized that they ran out of biscuits it would take 10 more minutes and offered me a substitute. I went ahead and ate the eggs which were cooked perfectly and then I had boudin patty which was seasoned well. True to her words when the biscuit and gravy were ready they brought it out hot and fluffy, they were divine. Our server told us because of our wait and not having the biscuits on time they were taking care of our bill. We didn't expect that but he said that's not the customary wait time and they are happy to please us. I want to applaud them for taking an uncomfortable situation and making it right. This is a cute place with yummy beignets. Located near the train tracks, The Coffee Depot serves simple food and coffee. The decor is vintage with a country feel. it is warm and inviting, especially with the cute train set in the middle. When you walk in you are expected to seat yourself, which is confusing considering there isn't any signs. Once you find a seat, the waitress will come find you and take your order. Unfortunately, the service just doesn't live up to the ambiance. It took a while for our waitress to come take our order. We asked for coffee refills twice before they pointed to a self-service refill station in the corner (why have self service when you offer table service?). We waited about 30 minutes for our food. Our friend's breakfast came out 10 minutes before ours. It wasn't until we asked where our food was (since we had all placed our orders together) that they brought out our food. And getting the check and paying it took some time as well. Slow service seems to be a trend here when comparing with other Yelp reviews. The food was decent but nothing special. Just typical diner breakfast food. But the beignets were pretty tasty. We got a regular order of beignets but our friend got beignet fingers and they also offer bites. I would go back when in the Lafayette area for their beignets. They were very busy, so they must be doing some things right. Just be prepared for slow service. It is a pretty solid 3 star place. This coffee shop fails for not serving HALF AND HALF. Instead, they provide that FAKE liquid Coffeemate "creamer" (code word for "not cream"). Real coffee shops should have Half and Half cream. For a place named "The Coffee Depot" you would think the breakfast would be pretty exceptional. Sadly, except for the cheese grits, boudin biscuits, and sometimes the beignets most of the food on the menu is pretty disappointing. The most egregious offense is they deep fry their very thin and small strips of bacon. Anyone who has eaten bacon out of a deep fryer knows it is the absolute worst, laziest way to cook bacon. It adds saturated fat, it replaces the bacon flavor with other things that are cooked in the oil, dries it out instantly, it basically turns it into a rubbery piece of cardboard with very little hint of flavor and the flavor that is there, just isn't the good ole bacon flavor it should be. When I asked the owner about this, when he managed to whipe off the "Oh my god he knows" look off his face and stop stammering uhs, told me that he gets nothing but compliments on his bacon, which I know for a fact is a bold faced lie. At least admit you are just being lazy. He also told me everyone has their opinion, well it isn't an opinion that bacon grease is widely used in cooking to add flavor to a smorgasbord of edibles. So why would you take any of that flavor away by throwing it in a bucket of oil and cooking it all out? It is cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. Been going here giving them chances since they opened, will not go back unless they manage to change their ways. TLDR: If you love bacon, stay away. read more

We attended the Christmas celebration here last night. It was our first time to join this free celebration and I truly hope that we will be able to join them every year for this event!! The food was delicious -- thick chili with just enough spice, and steaming hot gumbo and rice, all the ice cold lemonade and coke you could drink, and yummy desserts to delight! Santa Claus arrived with Mrs Claus and all the kids were thrilled! There were secrets whispered in Santa's ear, pictures taken on his lap, and lots of candy canes from Mrs Claus. Guests even brought gifts to be donated to Faith House. The music was wonderful--from a cappella Christmas carols & guitar instrumentals to Amazing Grace on bagpipes. Thank you, Jeff and Sarah, and Coffee Depot employees, for sharing the true spirit of Christmas with us. We are already making plans for next year! read more

One of the many local restaurants that are now charging a penalty for using anything but cash.. I'm all for supporting local businesses but I am boycotting all restaurants charging this 4% fee... The food is great but the 4% fee is shady and questionably legal.. They are allowed to charge up to 4% but it is not supposed to exceed the amount they get charged for processing... And it seems all the "local" scott business have the worst credit card processing fees as they have all started charging the 4% maximum... So they have all lost my business... read more

My only complaint is that I had to change my baby on the bathroom floor with a changing mat because there is no changing table or counter space. Please consider installing one! read more

If there was an option to give zero stars, I would! Absolute worst service I've ever received. I arrived at 1:25pm (they close at 2) and the cashier/waitress told me I needed to hurry up and order because the kitchen was starting to clean up. We also overheard them openly complaining about the tip while we were still in earshot. For a bill of $18.90, We tipped them over 20%, which came out to be about $4. They complained out loud to each other, "they only tipped us $3." This is unacceptable! They forgot our straws, brought us water pitchers and empty cups and made us pour our own waters, didn't bring our lemons and our check. 1 star for those delicious beignets though! read more

This is our third visit. Consistently the service is slow and the tables are dirty. This Sunday morning, they were Not busy but tables were dirty. No one was bussing them. We arrived at 10:45 and were told that breakfast stopped at 11. We ordered burgers with fried eggs on them. Fifteen minutes after ordering, waitress comes back to table and says the cook won't make the fried eggs.We asked if they were out of eggs and she answers no but "it's after breakfast and if we make it for you then we hafta make it for everyone" . We asked for the manager and she replies "Owners are on vacation and can't be reached." We paid for our drinks and left. Too many great places that value their customers to return here. Passing thru town and decided to give them a try. Nice place,service was slow, it was unfortunate that we had the worst experience to date. waitress was very absent minded to say the least. Husband requested tea and she absolutely didn't remember to bring it , so we decided to see how long it would take her to remember and guess what ? if she would remember ?and NOT!!!! Had to literally go to counter and ask for it. bad business.ordered chicken salad with pecans and cranberry's,and (I got a large plate of lettuce (lots of lettuce,if I were a rabbit, I would of been ecstatic) , few pieces of chicken, few cranberry's, and absolutely no pecans. Talk about an accidental stop. We were traveling E on Interstate 10 and saw billboard after billboard advertising Billys Boudain Balls and Cracklin. Well we had to stop and while there we asked the assistant mgr where we might get some delicious beignets and coffee. We were directed to The Coffee Depot. I will offer this either google the address or ask, you wont stumble upon this place by accident. Once we arrived the staff welcomed us like long lost family. The coffee was fresh and we ordered beignets, a shrimp po boy and a boudain biscuit. YUMMY. Our server was Shayna and she was cute, perky and very efficient. This place was adorable!! My husband wanted to try a beignet before we drove back to Texas and I found this cute little stop right outside of Lafayette. I got a white chocolate Latte, seriously better than Starbucks. And the beignets were delicious! We will definitely be back when we come back to Louisiana. Loved it!
