Coffee's are amazingly fresh and delicious we love this place our regular hang out spot with WiFi

I ordered a small cappuccino made of almond milk because I am a little lactose intolerant and when I got to work I found out they gave me whole milk..... It wasn't busy there so make sure the staff is trained to make the correct drinks. This would be really bad if a vegan or someone who is actually lactose intolerant got served the wrong drink. I will watch them like a hawk next time and make sure the correct milk is used. read more

6/17 I'm updating this and adding a star because I hadn't realized that the owners were dealing with brunt of a severe personal loss at the time. I do feel like that changes my perspective on a person's mood and behavior as I have experience with that. Also, I've been to the coffee house a few times since, and the coffee/tea has been good and consistent. I also did see the owner treat the staff poorly. I have been there a few times, and every time I go, I am hoping it's not Ben behind the counter because he is off-putting. It's a nice cozy place, but I had to stop going because of the awkwardness and the expense. It's more expensive than Starbucks - come on now. I'm buying a coffee, not a meal. read more

This place is great for families, friends, college students, people working nearby, etc. They have a wide selection of baked goods and coffee. Met some friends here after work on a Friday. I loved the high quality coffee and pastries but it was very quiet. Like library quiet. They do play some music but it's very soft, making this a great spot for studying/remote work. Most other patrons were on their laptops. Could've been the time of day I visited but normal conversation seemed to echo and I felt a bit out of place. Would definitely return for takeout or to stay and get some reading/work done. read more

I've served about 20 visits to this cafe, seeing that I've gone through at least 2 of their loyalty punch cards. What keeps me coming back is how close it is to home, the perfect set up for studying / getting work done (plenty outlets), or meeting with a friend. Open tabs are cool. My patronage would honestly double if the food and coffee tasted better, and if not better, than prices lowered. But my stars mainly come off because of a different reason: It seems like there are varied opinions on whether the owner is actually a nice dude or not. So what's the deal? Through my many stays here I've deduced that he is not actually a nice guy, he's just nice to us since we're paying him. His tone is rude and words humiliating to his nothing-but-delightful employees. But only because my money is his business, he'll bat his eyes or pop his booty or whatever else he has to do to get me to stuff the tip jar with a dollar. His kindness only extends to those who pay him; on the other hand, those who he is paying (his employees) he speaks to as if they're incompetent and making his business look bad. News flash- They're making his business look great and he's making his business look bad. I actually much rather prefer to be there when he's not there. Gives me peace so I don't have to constantly look over with concern when I unintentionally overhear his loud barking orders at the girl behind the counter. I always feel like John Quinones from "What Would You Do" is gonna come out with his camera crew and ask why I didn't intervene this clearly disturbing scene of someone being treated poorly.. Ugh guilt. At the end of the day, if how the owners treats people with partiality doesn't bother you, then this place is just fine. If business ethics and social responsibility play a role in how you choke down food, then I'd advise you to reconsider. read more

Stopped in around 6pm on a Saturday. A few customers sitting on chairs/couches, and two people were ordering--not busy or crowded. Behind the counter were two girls and an older man, who I assume was the owner. The entire time I stood there (about 4 feet from him) the man was audibly criticizing the younger girl working the cash register about orders she had prepared. I'm not claiming to know what happened to make this guy's day so stressful, but I thought it was rude enough to mention it here. He was blunt and abrupt and reprimanded the girl not once, not twice, but at regular intervals while I was standing there waiting for him to make my coffee. There was a clear awkwardness in the air. I've worked in food service my whole life and if someone talked to me like that when I was trying to learn or train, I guarantee I wouldn't stick around very long. Especially considering this is a coffee shop in Edison, seriously? It's a really cute place, clean, organized, nice setup, cozy, has good quality coffee--but this is not The Rainbow Room for crying out loud. ANYWAY, double dirty soy chai was pretty good. Set me back a little over $7, which it was not worth, but I knew what I was getting into when I chose it so that's my own fault. Bottom line, treat your employees right. If you can't give enough of a damn to bring positive energy to your own business, how can you expect any of your employees to do so? If you're going to be a condescending brute at least be smart enough to do it behind closed doors. OOF. I hope for the sake of his blood pressure and the sake of his employees that I caught him on an off day. I might go back one day to see, but I'm definitely not going out of my way to do so. read more

If you wanna see how a person takes over a business and runs it into the ground then this is the place! Coffee House USED to be great if not the best coffee place in town. Unfortunately it was sold and the new owner (who I can only assume has no business experience) thinks that they can replace quality Illy coffee with cheap garbage and increase the price by 25%. I asked what did they replace the Illy with and he said - It's a private label! Not sure what that means but it's trash. I give this place maybe a year until it folds cause of poor management. Why would you take something that worked so well and ruin it within two days of ownership. read more

I've been to all the coffee shops in the Central Jersey area, and this is my favorite, for a few reasons. First and foremost is the coffee itself. If you care about how good your coffee tastes, then this is by far the best place in the area to enjoy your beverage of choice. Ben and his staff take pains to perfect your drink before they give it to you; this attention to detail is not something I've seen at any of the competition. Bonus points for the pastries and gelato being very tasty. The second reason to go here is it's very comfortable. I feel like I'm walking into an inviting living room with plenty of couches. The decor is very well done and the place is always clean. Again, its the attention to detail that shines here. There's plenty of outdoor seating as well. The third reason is that over the few months I've been coming here, its obvious that they've created a small community in this shop. Musicians show up on a weekly basis and play their acoustic guitars (and they're all very good); friends meet up to chat; people plug away at their laptops and a croissant to get their work done; there's a friendly vibe going on here. I highly recommend giving The Coffee House a try, especially in favor of chains like Starbucks and Panera. read more

This place really is as good as it gets. The gf and I are here pretty much every weekend. The owner Ben is almost always there and is as nice as it gets. Goes out of his way to make sure every gets what they want and even takes the time to learn names. The other staff is just as great! I usually order tea(awesome selection), hot chocolate(the best I've ever had), or an iced mocha. The gf orders either a soy latter or a coffeehouse. Every drink is always top-notch. Even the sandwiches are great! You wouldn't expect the food to be as good as it is. The best part is the envirement. I found the inside seating very comfortable. There are plenty of love seat chairs with tables for your to use. There are a few 2 seat tables with outlets nearby for your convenience. The outside seating is nice. My only complaint with these seats is that they are not flat so when it rains the water pools in the seat. Would not be a big deal if the staff took note of it on comfortable sunny days and dried them. The menu is nice, everything is written big enough so you cant help but understand the drinks. Here comes the bad news. The coffee is not fresh. I say this becuase they have signs saying illy hanging up front and sell coffee in a can. While i am not opposed to commercial grade coffee i do expect more from a coffee shop. I purchased a cup anyway but my disappointment was only confirmed. read more

As a musician and coffee drinker, The Coffee House pleasantly combines the two and makes my visit here enjoyable. From decor to live music or a concert on the TV, the comfort of your own living room sets in the moment you sit down. The coffee and food are all delightful, but I attend more for the environment than anything else. The service also seems to be fast and friendly. When I am in the mood to kick back and relax while sipping slightly expensive coffee with my friends. This is the place we will choose. Weather we are discussing the realm of the mystical Mongolian death worm or plotting on future endevors as a wholesome America loving citizen. I frequent this little jewel every time I'm in town for training (which has been almost every two weeks for the last 6 months), and I don't get coffee anywhere else. Why? Because The Coffee House is consistently good, and the owners are present and active in the business - and it shows. Even the most difficult and indecisive customer is treated with patience, understanding, and respect, and every effort is made to make sure you got what you wanted (or, thought you wanted). I'm a business owner, and I know all too well what one deals with every day in the retail world of uncaffeinated, cranky, and generally ignorant people; the folks at The Coffee House make it look easy. Fortunately, the staff probably doesn't encounter too many of those; this is definitely a local hangout after 5, and gets jammed pretty fast (the outdoor seating is lovely), but even in the crush the staff still puts on a smile as they pour your latte. The food is tasty, coffee is robust but smooth, croissants are baked every morning...and for the reviewers that said the bread is stale, shame on you - this is crusty, Euro-style bread, so of course it will be substantial! I won't go into the decor as other reviewers have already covered that (the bathroom IS lovely though); what really matters to me is that every time I walk in there, there are NO surprises - I'll be served the best coffee around by smart folks who understand that sometimes a girl's just gotta have tiramisu and chocolate croissant for breakfast. read more

Great spot to get some good (illy brand, if you're into that kind of thing) coffee. Free street parking, which was never a hassle to find--although I would arrive mid-morning/afternoon. Not sure about how parking is at other times. Free Wifi. I had a chicken salad sandwich, which was pretty good. Their billing situation is interesting; as others have mentioned they run a tab. This is a great concept but I can't say that I'm a big fan. Other than stressing out the poor barista who has to remember a multitude of orders, I also did not like that I had this bill hanging over my head. That last note might just be personal to me. They have a frequent customer card! if you plan to return multiple times make sure you get one. They have a great 9.99 lunch special for a coffee and a sandwich. The owner (or who I'm assuming is the owner) is... interesting. I've been to this shop a couple of times, and one time he was ordering around the barista in the same room I was sitting in, which was a bit unnecessary. I've also observed him conducting a lengthy interview wherein he spoke about the importance of customer service. However, one time he was sitting in one of the loungers (across from me) and taking selfies/checking himself out using his camera (while wearing an apron). It's his business and I'm sure he can do as he pleases, but it didn't really make me feel super comfortable as a customer. I found this place while at home and in need for a new space to do some work. I Yelp'd "coffee house" and of course THE Coffee House popped up. It is fairly new so I did not encounter it sooner. I went on a night when there was a local teen band playing that was so wonderful. Most of the staff was pretty friendly...one girl in particular but I will have to go back and get you her name. The coffee was good (I'm a tea drinker though) but the prices...Starbucks prices, which no coffee is ever worth. (tea? maybe). It is a wonderful new place to relax in the afternoon or on a random weekday night, however, not very relaxing knowing you just spent $5 on a small cup of average coffee. read more

I found this place via Yelp when I was going to meet a friend for coffee, and we wanted some place besides Barnes & Noble or Starbucks. The ambiance is welcoming and comfortable and the music is great. The lighting is easy on the eyes. They even have a lap cushion for your laptop! It's as if all of the little touches designed to make it an awesome experience have been thought of. The employees are very welcoming as well. I feel like Norm from Cheers when I come in here! I love that the coffee is served in real mugs and that it is brought out to you. Plus, you know it's excellent coffee when you don't even need to put sugar in it. The best thing is that there are more comfy seats (armchairs, couches, etc) than there are regular tables. It encourages you to relax and stay a while. The community table is nice touch for larger groups/business meetings as well. I've found my new hangout spot, for sure. If I had to offer any suggestions for improvement, I would say that as business starts to increase, it will be difficult to find outlets to charge laptops. Nowadays I think people expect to be able to charge their devices while they are there. read more

Truly the epitome of a coffee shop. The coffee and food is wonderful, but what really stands out is the atmosphere of the place in general. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and welcomed, Ben made sure everything was to my liking and that I was comfortable. Such a friendly place with wonderful people. The interior itself is beautifully decorated and provides a very serene atmosphere where it's easy to get some work done or just unwind. The staff is so attentive and does not rush you along which, for a college student in need of a study spot, is ideal. I will be returning often! I love this coffee spot!!! Even if I'm not from jersey, if I happen to be in jersey, I'll def make a stop here. They serve illy coffee which is always good. But the way they make it, it's perfection. I had the vanilla latte. It wasn't overly sweet, or bitter which was good. I also had a Nutella croissant. It's my first time trying a Nutella croissant so I'm not sure what I should expect. But i think it would taste better if they warmed it up before serving it. I brought home a pistachio dessert thing in a glass cup. Since it's an hour drive back home, the cashier/host asked me if I wanted a fresh new one which takes 2 hrs to thaw instead of the one that is already in the refrigerator (So nice of her!) The staff here is incredibly sweet. The ambience and atmosphere of this cafe is amazing. I came here to study- and so was everyone else. It felt like being in the college library but more home-like. There is plenty of parking in the neighborhood and they have a parking lot in the back. I really cannot wait to come back. read more

My friend and I walked in on a Friday afternoon around 4pm. There were a few people sitting inside the coffee shop. We were greeted by a man and a lady behind the counter. The guy seemed to be the owner and the lady seemed to be new by the way the guy was instructing her on how to do things. The owner asked if we were new to the place and tried to get to know my friend and I which was very nice. He suggested some drinks and gave us punch cards. He also went above and beyond when he saw that we were sitting in one of the many comfy chairs with laptops on our laps. He brought over lap top desks for each of us. It was very nice of him and it showed that they really care about their customers. One thing I noticed was that the owner really knew everyone who walked into the door. There were many "regulars" and he addressed them all by name which I thought was very nice. Overall great place. The Nutella Croissant would have been better warmed up, but it was still good. The music was a little distracting sometimes. It wasn't the volume, but rather the type of music playing. It wasn't the usual calm, soft, coffee house type music. It's okay though! I think the customer service really trumped over anything so no stars off from me! read more

Hands down- the BEST coffee I have ever had. I ordered an iced caramel macchiato and a chocolate croissant. I have traveled to Italy and France and I have to say- that croissant was even better at Coffee House than what I have had overseas. I was so impressed and the staff is so friendly. Since I was staying and not taking my order to go- they told me to take a seat and they would bring it over. It came out in less than 5 minutes. The ambiance is great as well.
