There is no way this was Shrimp N' Grits, it was more like soup N Grits, they need to work on the consistency, it was so gross all I could think of was why is this on their menu if you're gonna serve it with this much water. The food is really tasty and interesting. We had the totchos and they were really good. I do wish it had more Whiz. Then we had burgers and they were really good smash burgers. The place is super busy and could benefit from more servers which I think the restaurant is trying to address. Also - I would have liked Maybe an outdoor heater since they have almost as many tables outside as inside and it was in the low 50s tonight. Came for Trivia which was incredibly hard, but the happy hour deals and the food was fantastic! I had the pulled pork and it was one of the best pork meals I have had in DC. The Mac and cheese was also delicious. Definitely recommend. read more

Good atmosphere and a chill location to meet up with friends for a casual night out. Some fun beer and shot combos to get the night started as well. Just don't be fooled by their Happy Hour menu in person. Commodore is a dive bar that doesn't know it's a dive bar. The food isn't worth the price, but perhaps the biggest culprit is the beer menu. Although they state that draft beers are all $2 off from 4-7 pm, Narragansett isn't included. We didn't find out until we looked online later that it's always full price. If you want better Happy Hour deals, look elsewhere. If you're a dive bar fan, go to Jackpot. If you're a Narragansett or cheap beer fan, save yourselves $20 and go to Commissary, Logan Tavern, Mission, or Mad Hatter. read more

PROS: 1) I enjoyed my time with friends 2) The Commodore logo is fun CONS: 1) Service was sloppy. The bartender/server carried a beer to our table holding it between her boob and under arm--gross. She made a comment "What at boobs good for if you can't use them to carry beer?" 2) Food was average. 3) Most of the tables outside are on an incline, so sitting comfortably was difficult. We ate here when we were visiting DC a couple of weeks ago. I have to say, I had the best cocktail I've ever had. It was delicious. If you like spicy drinks, try the Uncle Jalapeño. The reason I gave it three stars was that I had to send my meatball sub back because it was ice cold and the cheese wasn't melted. They did remake it and it was delicious when it was made right! Our waiter was really nice as well. Another complaint is that it wasn't clear if we should seat ourselves or wait. We ended up seating ourselves but it took awhile for somebody to notice us. The building is cool looking but it's not a good place for a bar. It's super crowded so you have to turn sideways to get anywhere if you are chubby like me and the stairs to more seating is steep. I'd hate to be a waiter having to navigate that with a tray of food. I think I would come back but just for cocktails. read more

First time. Love it , Love it. They work as a team so everybody takes care off you. The staff although young , very polite. Their bartender must be very knowledgeable because they did not have the beer I like and their suggestion was a very good substitution. Very clean. Dog friendly. They had a $5 special on the beer all night. 17th street corn is to die for. They also have a very unique and tasteful Salad called Leslie's salad. It is awesome. Something very funny about them though, I asked 3 of the staff and nobody knew who is Leslie. Ms. Leslie hats off to your salad. Definitely will be back. read more

Place seemed packed, but Carl whisked us to a table upstairs and flew out some beers and apps before we could hit our res at Astoria. Came back Monday for burger and wing night. Arrived about 20m before they opened, let us come in from the cold until they were ready. Burgers and wings were excellent. Beers were cold and local, kid crushed free refill lemonades. The vibes were a mix between a restaurant and dive bar. I got one of their chicken sandwiches, it was pretty good for the price and it came out hot and fresh. It was not my favorite chicken sandwich, but it was pretty solid. They have a drink on tap that is a must try. read more

Ordered a Squirrel Kicker burger w/ fries. Fries were great Nice portion, thick curly fries with seasoning. The burger on the other hand... looking at pics online, my SO and I ordered one burger to split because it looked big and beefy, but it was the opposite. It comes with two patties, which we thought would be enough for us to cut it down the middle. The patties were paper thin and no flavor. I get it, it is a smash burger but there was really not a lot of burger. Disappointing for the price. read more

Everything here is great and you should definitely come! But the past few times I've come in, the bar management is not stocking enough of their liquors for their signature cocktails. The servers are all really nice but if management isn't supporting them by keeping the bar stocked it makes their cocktail menu worthless. read more

Great bar with great vibes and even better employees. I truly cannot convey how grateful I am for the amazing employees at this bar! After fainting at the bottom of the stairs Friday night, the employees all immediately sprang into action, making sure that I was ok and asking questions while they called for paramedics. They even knew that I hadn't been drinking, properly conveying that I was having a true medical issue. The first thing I remember is one of them telling me that I wasn't alone and everything was going to be ok. Fainting episodes are always very disorienting and even painful for me, but everyone made me feel completely safe and comforted. They ensured no onlookers made me uncomfortable or laughed, really minimizing my immense embarrassment about the whole experience. They were so respectful, and one man in particular truly took care of me the entire time. Honestly, I'm sure they did even more than I was aware of, and I am so grateful for their assistance. This is an absolutely amazing bar that simply put my safety above all else. I have never been treated with such genuine care, thoughtfulness, and kindness during a fainting episode. My only regret is not getting any of their names to properly thank them for their help, so I really hope they see this! Your help meant the world to me, and I cannot wait to tell all of my friends to come to The Commodore! read more

Not a good experience at the Commodore. The food was mediocre at best and overpriced. The drinks tasted weird and watered down. The staff was a mixture of inattentive and hostile. We had to remind the wait staff to bring one of our items after waiting 30 minutes for it. Another staff member rudely moved our food around and snatched the menus off our table while we were eating... Not sure if this was related to racial prejudice as we didn't fit the white hipster vibe the restaurant seemed to be catering to.... Will not come here again read more

Hands down the best burger (pro tip: shlogan burger w/ cheddar) in DC. Lucky buns, salt line, diplomat, Emmy squared, and ghost burger are all solid options, too, but none come close to this cheesy goodness on a homemade bun. Not to mention their Mac and cheese is also ELiTE. read more
