The place definitely has a cozy setting and not too noisy which is good if you need to study or work on a laptop. They serve latte and cappuccino just how I was looking for. I'm absolutely appalled right now. I ordered breakfast here which is listed as coming in a hard crust French boule. This restaurant has the audacity to serve it in a hallowed out (in the center not even in the split) - soft potato hamburger bun. When I brought it to the attention thinking it was a mistake. They said no this is how they serve it even though this is clearly not what the menus list- the name of the dish is boule! Either the chef has no idea what a boule is or they are cutting corners expecting their customers to be ignorant. It would have been fine if it was a replacement hard bread but they said no this is just how it is. Change the menu or stop lying to your customers. The servers are Amazing though. The Common is a really nice addition to Bay Ridge. It is small but it's quaint. We only waited for a table for about 15 minutes and we were a party of 4. I do not drink espresso but my friends ordered some and the one sip I did take was very rich and tasty. For my entree I ordered the eggs Benedict which came with a side of potatoes and salad. I really enjoyed this meal the food was delicious. Everyone ordered something different and was completely satisfied with their meal. The waitress was also very kind and very attentive. Besides this place being small there really were no cons to this experience at all. I've been here twice and both times I've really enjoyed my visit! Service: First, you're greeted warmly by a perky server with a smile. She's very decisive and organized. I walked in with the hubby and asked how long the wait was and she quoted 20 minutes. (This place only seats like 20 people). I went over to Walgreens and 15 minutes later she called me to let me know the table was ready. There is good teamwork and communication between the staff members. If a server notices you need a coffee, they'll just come over and ask if you need a coffee. There's no "this is your table, that's my table". Food: Food is really good! I got the French Toast Sandwich (caramel, walnuts, bananas) and it was the right balance of sweet and savory! They use challah bread so its light and fluffy. Also got the fried potatoes. There were dollops of savory orange sauce on it and the plate was garnished with this edible purple parsley??? My hubby said it tasted like "grass, good grass" lol. Those were really good. It was like a garlic, mustard sauce. It came out quickly as well, 10 minutes tops. An average plate is $13, very reasonable, especially for the quality. Atmosphere: The decor is galvanized metal and Mason jars. There are some plants on the wall to the left when you walk in. There is lots of natural light. Its quaint and clean. Recommend! What a great spot! Definitely would recommend it for breakfast. I really like that they have an indoor and outdoor seating. Its so nice to eat outside with beautiful weather. Upon arrival you are welcomed by a host with the menus, and cheerful smile. Our waiter greeted us with suggestions of the menu. We ended up ordering Fratelli omelet with wheat toast and potatoes, vanilla latte with almond milk and black coffee. We both agree that the potatoes were amazing. I really would love to try this place! But they never answer their phones! Every weekend we have the same problem. We keep calling and no answer. When we get there they tell us it's an hour wait and that they disconnect the phones because it's so busy. When I heard that a new brunch place opened in Bay Ridge, I was eager to try it. This area is a bit of a brunch dessert, so a new place was very exciting. The Common didn't disappoint. Everything we had was excellent. I had a skillet dish, which to me looked and tasted a lot like a Mexican themed shakshuka. The flavors were simply perfect! My one complaint would be the bread that was served with it. A skilled dish like this needs a nice grilled sourdough (or similar) bread. The soft toasted top of a roll just didn't cut it. My daughter had a yogurt bowl, which she really liked. We also ordered a pear drink which was fabulous. I love that they have several interesting non-alcoholic beverages. We had such a lovely time, that we went back a couple of weeks later. This time we both had "on toast" items. My daughter had the avocado, and I had one with ricotta and beets. Once again, the flavor combinations were perfect, absolutely delicious. They both had one issue though. The bread was incredibly tough. Our attempts at cutting through them were almost comical. I'm not sure why this happened, it was thin pumpernickel, not over toasted. They were also not very filling, I feel like if they'd be on thicker bread they might be a bit more filling. A nice sourdough would be perfect. Overall, we loved everything we had here. This place is excellent, the menu is interesting, their prices are very fair. Although the burrito portion was smaller than expected, I ended up eating like half of my boyfriends skillet anyways cause it was soooo good. And they offered us more bread when they saw that we ran out - thank you! As a french toast connoisseur, this was new and interesting to me. Before I start discussing the food, I want to mention that I had a very unpleasant first impression of the place. The hostess/waitress told me that I had to wait about 30-35 min (which was fine) and that she would text me once the table was ready. Next thing you know, the restaurant called from a Pennsylvania phone number (which I found odd) but since I figured that it could be the restaurant I rushed back to the restaurant. I arrive within 2 minutes of the missed calls, the waitress tells me to sit, then once I sit she tells me that she thought that I was someone else whom she had already promised the table to after I did not answer the calls, told me to get up, and that I needed to wait for another table to become available. I told her that she had told me that I would receive a text and then she claimed that she had told me either a phone call or text. Regardless, her kicking my husband and I out from the table, once we were seated, and we were back within 2 minutes of her phone call was really uncalled for. With that said, we waited God only knows how long for another party to finish dining and for us to be called and seated. For this horrible first impression, I give them a 1 out of 5 stars. The waitress that took care of us throughout our time there was really nice and sweet. The way she treated us was a 5 out of 5 stars. I ordered the Mango Mint Iced Tea to start. This drink sounded really appealing, but it had close to no flavor. It came sugar free (which was okay), but both the mango and mint flavors were very faint. I requested sugar to help improve the drink, they gave me a very watery simple syrup (which was not very sweet). The drink improved, but I shouldn't have had to fix it in order to be able to pleasantly drink it. To me this drink gets 1 out of 5 stars. As my main dish I ordered the French Toast Sandwich. This deserves a 5 out of 5 stars. It was much more delicious than I anticipated! The only thing that I didn't like was that in all the pictures that I'd seen of the dish, everyone got strawberries and I didn't, but I guess that they didn't have any available. My husband got the Waffles and Chicken dish. I tried the chicken and it was not very good. It tasted like old, poor quality chicken and reminded me of the greasy, not high quality taste of chicken from KFC. I was so put off by it that I wasn't motivated to try the waffle and just focused on my delicious meal. For this they get a 1 out of 5 stars. Summary, this place is okay. I wouldn't go back based on that it's really far from my home and the way that I was initially treated. I don't see why someone that lives locally shouldn't at least try it. But, keep in mind that it may be one of those places that may have that really good one or two dishes that they are known for and the rest don't match up. read more

6 of the best friends planned to meet here for breakfast on a Sunday morning. My GF and I arrived from Long Island early and we were greeted by Marcella. What a sweet spot for breakfast!! It's not a very big place but we had plenty of room!!! The kitchen is in the middle of the restaurant!!! I love to watch the food being prepared! Even though the rest of our group hadn't arrived she seated us at a table in the back and set us up with water and coffee. The coffee was robust and smooth!! We ordered the fried potatoes to pick on while we waited. Such a simple dish but made to perfection!! Creamy inside with a crispy outside texture and small dollops of their house made garlic aioli!! WOW!! I can't even describe the deliciousness!!! When our friends arrived Marcella immediately greeted them and got their drink orders. We each ordered a different dish. (Pictures don't do these dishes justice at all!) Everything was so well balanced and simply mouth watering!! The portions were more than plentiful! Marcella knew we had travelled a distance and hadn't seen each other in a while so she had no problem letting us just sit and talk while she checked in every now and again to refill our water and coffee! I had been wanting to check this place out since it opened. I came with a group of 7, and they were able to seat us immediately. The menu is more extensive than I thought with many options to choose from. I had the inside out truffle bun which was delicious! The eggs were so soft and the amount of truffle oil was perfect. The bun came covered in a bacon jam which was good as well. The dish also came with a side salad of arugula in a sort of vinegaraitte which was good! My friends also enjoyed their food and most of the food items are between $10-12 which I think is reasonable. I will definitely be back for brunch again! read more

Delicious and great staff! I got the poached eggs in a skillet with tomatoes and it was delicious!! Also I got a latte with almond milk. The skillet was $12 and a large latte was $4 which I feel like is reasonably priced. The staff was extremely nice and very accommodating. The table behind us was very rude to the waitress for no reason which really annoyed me. You can make a place seem bad if you like to complain but there absolutely nothing to complain about! I will definitely be back and will refer my friends as well. Also everything was very clean! The waitress accidentally touched my friends fork and immediately switched it for a new fork without her even asking. Thanks for a great meal! read more
