I was having trouble finding a place with many vegetarian options for my friend and was about to give up when I stumbled upon the Common on Yelp. I was instantly hooked on the expansive menu with diverse and appealing options. I'd recommend making a reservation since the restaurant is on the smaller side, and very popular. We arrived around noon on a weekday and waited 40 minutes for a table. The kitchen here is open concept so it was a little warm inside. Since we were there around 1PM, we had the option of ordering from both the breakfast and lunch menus. I browsed the options and saw so many good ones: salmon scramble w/ roasted potatoes, pickled onion, and salad, S'more french toast, and a truffle bun with truffle aioli. I loved how there were so many different flavors and seasonings used in each recipe. I ordered a pistachio latte and the Pastrami plate with sunny side up eggs, roasted potatoes, and a side salad. The latte was strong and smooth. The breakfast plate so well balanced, between the fatty, meaty flavor of the pastrami, the lightly cooked potatoes, and the slight sour of the arugula salad with balsamic. It's a great option if you're looking for a filling meal with different components, one that's not too greasy or unhealthy. Service was friendly and attentive. I stumbled across this establishment thanks to my google search for Brooklyn brunch spots. I thereafter looked at the Yelp reviews and thought I'd give it a try. When my girlfriend and I arrived we were told the wait would be 11/2 hour for 2. They do only allow four tables to be serviced at a time (no outdoor seating) . They do not take reservations. We had the time so we waited. Thankfully, the wait only turned out to be about 30-35 mins. So glad for that. Ever show up hungry hungry and want to order it all, lol. Well we didn't order it all but we started with a shared plate , The Common Loaf with Avocado butter and rosemary salt. We both agreed that it was very tasty. Then we ended up getting the same dish made different ways. In the Skillet, mine included grilled sausage, mushrooms, spinach , scrambled eggs , cheddar cheese and pita bread. They allowed me to adjust my egg preference and add cheese. Points for that ! The dish was savory and had a Mediterranean flare to me. Because I like savory and sweet when it come to brunch I tried the Apple pie cheese cake. Now, I was expecting like cheesecake cheesecake. This was more of a mousse like crumble. Intrigued, I go inside and start seeing what people were eating and looking at the menu. I thought the grits and sausage looked good. I ordered that and a cappuccino from a super-friendly-busy yet competent member of the staff. Got it to go. The soups I've tried have all been excellent, especially the loaded sweet potato. Their fried chicken sandwich is honestly one of the best I've ever. This place is my go to brunch spot with friends and family! The chefs are very attentive when it comes to preparing food for someone with food allergies! They use all very fresh ingredients and use only the best! For example, a side salad would have arugula not iceberg! Wonderful experience every time I visit! They have a dish I'm obsessed with called, Fried Cauliflower in a peanut sesame sauce. (At least that's what I have been calling it! There will always be a wait because the place is very small, but it will always be worth it. Each time I've been it's been between 20 and 30 minutes, but sometimes a little bit shorter. How do I I've only been here twice now, but I've been really impressed with everything. Even their water is infused with cucumber and citrus. They have an incredibly interesting array of menu items, spanning different cultures, and including savory and sweet options. The grits were delicious, although they came with sausage and not shrimp, which would have been my preference. Came here with a group of on a Sunday, around 11 ish. Had to put our names down and waited maybe 30 mins. The spot is small and very popular, so it was basically full the whole time we were there. The service here was great. I can't remember what my friends ordered, but everyone was happy with their food. I think one of the orders we had was the chicken and waffles, which was the favorite. I ordered the Pastrami Grilled Cheese, which wasn't bad, the taste is good although I thought the Pastrami can be more moist. Parking is tough in the area but I got lucky today. Arrived around 1pm on a Sunday and left my name with the hostess. Twas a bit of a wait - 45min on a 30min quote - but boy was it worth it. The wait was also comfortable as they have two benches in the shade on either side of the entrance. I took the time to walk over to Dunkin to use 1 of my 8 free drinks and to figure out what I wanted. The hostess did an amazing job keeping the waiting customers updated every time someone got called in, and even addressed everyone by name. I was flying solo and felt guilty that they gave me a table for 4 all to myself. Offered to have to have the last two people waiting join me but that didn't happen. I ordered the sausage skillet with avocado. While I'm a fun guy, I'm not a fan of mushrooms so I asked to hold the mushrooms. As a courtesy I was offered peppers instead which was a nice customer service touch. The food was banging! Hot, flavorful and well presented. If I had to nitpick, the potatoes in their own didn't have much flavor, but when eaten with every thing else, it was very well balanced. We got lucky because shortly after they told parties that walked in that they were backed up and won't be seating anyone for an hour, which I thought was very responsible, rather than seating people and having them wait a long time for food. Super clean space with an open kitchen. I had the breakfast in a boule and my boyfriend had the pastrami grilled cheese. We both really enjoyed our meals and drinks. The grilled cheese was pretty big and the fried egg comes on top. Wouldn't exactly call it your usually grilled cheese, but quite a bit sandwich. Really enjoyed the breakfast in a boule, like a creative scrambled egg dish. They don't have iced coffee on their menu but they offered an iced latte which was very good, the pear punch my boyfriend really enjoyed as well. We shared the crispy York potatoes which came with a goat cheese yogurt sauce on the side. these potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft in the inside, the sauce was a great pairing. I then had as my main course the Spanish breakfast, first, want to acknowledge that they listened to my request of over cooking the scramble eggs as I do not like watery eggs. The meal overall was filling and yummy, highly recommended. My friend got the three grain bowl with tomatoes, mushrooms, avocado, pickled radish and sunny eggs. If aaa a lot and can be shared. This looks like a cozy, simple restaurant at a first glance but the menu is rather interesting and simple dishes have nice twists and touches to them. Food is simply outstanding! This quickly became my favorite brunch spot in Bay Ridge. I've been here three times so far and the food has been delicious every single time. All of the dishes I tried were delicious but I HIGHLY recommend the Roasted Potatoes. They're crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The Crispy Potato Tart is delicious. I'm a big fan of hash browns and this dish doesn't disappoint. As for drinks, I love the Sparkling Pear. It tasted like I was drinking straight from an actual pear. The food tasted fresh and clean. I think I found my new brunch spot at The Common. What a great addition to the Bay Ridge area food scene. To be honest, it was getting a little stale. I've been meaning to check this place out for a few weeks, since it opened. I'm super happy I was able to this weekend. It's pretty small, fitting about 20 people. There's two or three big tables for groups and the rest are for duos. I love that the music is low but still discernible. I can hear myself think. I also loved the hanging lightbulbs in mason jars over the open kitchen area. I'm a sucker for the hipster vibe. The staff was so nice and accommodating. Honey Yogurt Bowl [$9]: Ultimately this is yogurt parfait with sliced bananas and black berries. There was also granola with nuts in the bowl. There were candied lemon slices on top which kind overwhelmed the palette. Overall, it was still enjoyable and was a nice size. My boyfriend had the Eggs Benedict [$14] with fried chicken and roasted potatoes. Totally delicious looking. I may or may not have stolen a few potatoes. They were seasoned with sea salt and were super crispy and awesome. There was also some arugula on the side. We both had lattes which were delicious. Mine came in a massive bowl. A fabulous little gem of an addition to our neighborhood! The Common will fit right in with other foodie places this side of Bay Ridge, but also set itself apart and stand out delightfully with its' creative cuisine and cozy atmosphere. On our recent Sunday brunch visit, The Common was the epitome of a relaxing and deliciously satisfying leisurely weekend meal. The staff was lovely, from the moment we walked in through the doors, throughout our meal (accommodating a last minute request) and all the way until we waved them goodbye, full and happy, promising to return! The menu is intriguing with options plentiful, but not overwhelming (it helps that they are organized in categories so you could really zero in on what you're in the mood for). Everything is prepared fresh to order and it shows - every bite truly tastes farm fresh and piping hot. Something as simple as our son's scrambled eggs was truly delicious (evident by the fact that a 3 year-old finished every last bite on his plate). I enjoyed a nice latte and my husband nursed a pot of the Seaberry tea, both soul-warming on this cold morning. My Inside Out Truffle bun was out of this world - quite possibly the best combination of breakfast flavors I've ever had! I'll just say that your life isn't complete until you've tried their bacon jam. My husband had a hearty pastrami sandwich with melty mozzarella perfectly paired on pumpernickel bread. A last minute addition of the smoky potatoes was totally worth it - and the aioli they came with complemented it very well.
