Best drink I have had in a while! Thank you Joselito and Jocelyn! You both are awesome!

At the wine bar of the Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa....sneaking away for the weekend!

Spontaneous decision to wine and dine in Napa arrived at The Meritage Resot and Spa. Grabbed a seat at the Commons a wine bar in the hotel lobby post wine tasting. Lisa and Tracy thumbs up! At first, I thought Donna was selective on who she served. But. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt because. she redeemed herself so the place gets a 5 stars on service. The food, the bar, the ambience gets 4 stars, average. So am I coming back? Yes.

This is a typical hotel lounge bar, but with great service, great people, and great drinks. Donna is an expert with drinks, and even though I was given complimentary drinks for multiple stays, Donna still treated me as a paying guest and didn't skimp on service or quality of drinks. My last night I wanted a snack, and she suggested the olives, but she recommended them heated a bit to get the flavors out instead of eating them cold. Boy, never thought about doing this, and they were the best snack accompanied with my drink. This is always a nice spot on our trips and I always make it a point to make a stop (or two) here.

From the wines to the food pairings, everything was thoughtfully curated and executed at a high level. We enjoyed a fantastic Tsar Nicoulai caviar pairing served with crème fraîche, blinis, and potato chips, followed by an impressive cheese and charcuterie board featuring artisan cheeses, cured meats, olives, nuts, dried fruit, fresh truffles, and other delicious accompaniments. To top it all off, the chocolate pairing was a perfect finish and showcased how beautifully wine and chocolate can complement one another. The wines were outstanding across the board, but my favorite was the Malbec. It was rich, smooth, and incredibly expressive, with beautiful dark fruit flavors and a long finish. It was the wine that stayed with me long after the tasting ended. What truly made the experience exceptional, however, was our host, Cante, the Hospitality Director. His knowledge, professionalism, and genuine enthusiasm elevated every part of the visit. He took the time to explain the wines, pairings, and story behind Trinitas while making the experience feel personal and engaging. You can tell he genuinely cares about creating memorable experiences for guests, and his passion for hospitality shines through in everything he does. Between the outstanding wines, the incredible caviar, cheese, charcuterie, and chocolate pairings, and Cante's exceptional hospitality, Trinitas Cellars delivered a five-star experience from start to finish. This is the kind of winery that reminds you why Napa Valley is such a special destination. I can't wait to return.

We tried a great selection of wines and I enjoyed all of them, but the Cabernets really stood out to me, smooth and flavorful. One of the highlights was the Pope Leo wine, made to honor the new pope. It was excellent and special enough that I had to take a bottle home. Jerry took care of our group and did an amazing job. He was friendly, attentive, and kept things moving without ever making us feel rushed. Handling a big group isn't easy, but he made it feel fun. Another huge plus is the location. We were staying at The Meritage Hotel and Spa, so it was incredibly convenient. Overall, we had an amazing time and would come back the next time we're in Napa.

Nice touches adorn the restaurant throughout. The menu has a lot of wonderful options. The service, provided by Alex, was excellent. We started with the Dungeness Crab arancini, which are probably the best thing we ate all evening, and that's saying a lot because everything we had was great. These arancini are perfectly fried crab meat rolled into a ball served over a delicious tartar sauce. I wish I had 3 orders of this, at least. We ordered the soup of the day and their bread service. The soup was a white bean and sausage and it was perfectly salty and fatty. The bread and butter was a perfect accompaniment. The Carpe Diem salad was also really special. It had these Cabernet soaked dried cranberries that were so good and tart. For an entree, we ordered the short ribs which come over a risotto. It felt a little heavy, and maybe the sauce could've used a little acid to cut the heaviness. It was still really delicious though. For dessert, we had the espresso crème brûlée. This was just the icing on the cake of a great meal. I love Carpe Diem and hope to come back soon!

After we finished eating, I frantically researched (read: checked Yelp) for a winery to visit. Housley seemed to fit the bill--good reviews, dog-friendly (we had her dog with us), and what seemed to be a reasonable tasting price. We get there and we realize it's owned by Tamera Mowry (who is now Mowry-Housley!) There's a picture of her and her husband (a former baseball player) in the window. We're sort-of starstruck. Shortly after, her husband (and the winery's owner) Adam walks up with their daughter and asks us how we're doing. We continue to be starstruck. Service was wonderful. Seating was comfy. The views weren't the best (we were drinking on the sidewalk and there's a parklet too.) The 5 wines for $29 was not bad, but the size of the pours was lacking. The first pour was the smallest and then slowly they seemed to give us more (maybe they heard me!) Honestly, the pricier wines tasted better. I wish our wine tasting could've been free if we bought two bottles or something--I would've done that! Cute merch and store with goodies inside. Bathroom is clean. Would be back!

Everyone having wine chose the Signature Flight, which included one white and three reds. I appreciated the option to substitute a Sauvignon Blanc for the Chardonnay, a nice personal touch. Each wine was distinctive, balanced, and delicious in its own way. You could really tell the care and craftsmanship behind every pour. What really stood out was the hospitality. Our host was not only incredibly thoughtful but impressively knowledgeable. She explained where each wine's grapes were grown, described the flavor profiles we could expect, and added insights into how the terroir influenced the wine -- all without it ever feeling too technical or over our heads. Even better, our designated driver was offered iced tea, lemonade, or an Arnold Palmer, which I really appreciated. It's always a plus when tasting rooms consider the full group's experience, not just the drinkers. The vibe was so warm and relaxing, we ended up staying for over two hours. It felt less like a stop and more like a true experience. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in downtown Napa.
