I have been here a few times with a friend. The latest show was Within Temptation. There was only one cashier manning the booth. The line was going out the door and patrons were missing the show. This place is overpriced, misleading and swampy. Don't waste your money. We came to see Rodriguez and the ticket said 8 o'clock and nothing about an opening band. Turns out the doors didn't open til & and we ended up standing in line for 30 minutes then in the muggy warehouse space for 2 hours before the show began. I read the past reviews from 2013 and had never been to The Complex until last night 7/10/2014. I watched Beyond Omega, Hooga, AntiMortem, and Machine Head in the Grand. As I am 54 years old, this certainly was not my first "rodeo" in Metal music....My all time eternal favorite band is Pantera. Having said all this, I was VERY happy with not only the venue itself, but the location, parking, amenities, AND staff. Sound was awesome, AC was working well, Staff VERY courteous and helpful. The folks working the counters for drinks and food were busting their rears to get everyone served in a timely manner....EXCELLENT job. I will HIGHLY recommend The Complex to anyone who will listen...AND.....I will be back!!! read more

Took my daughter to see Billie Eillish Saturday night. Probably my least fave venue ever. Billie was great. The venue sucks. General admission. So not awesome. Stood in line over an hour in the pouring rain to get in. Show starts late with opening band at 8, Billie came on after 9. Concert over by 10:30. We stood for over 4 hours, Too packed. They really need to limit the # tickets, it was worse than standing room only. Packed like sardines. Quite dangerous. I'm glad I went with my daughter and it was quite a rowdy crowd for Utah!!! We are from LA where I would expect that!! read more

A good warehouse venue to check out a band. Pretty large place and the acoustics are impressive. If you want to take a break from the music you can step outside for a minute or head to the back of the venue for a breather. No complaints, but nothing over the top and not the best venue I've been to, hence the three stars. read more

The event security team was shockingly rude and abrasive to everyone. About 15 minutes after Rufus Du Sol finished their set, we were waiting in line at the coat check to get our coats, and security started yelling at us, "EVERYONE GET OUT, NOW!!" They treated us like cattle as they moved us out to the parking lot, and started yelling even louder, "GET OUTSIDE THE FENCE! MOVE!" It was the weirdest behavior I've ever seen from event staff. Someone in management needs to take a giant chill pill. I won't be going back any time soon. read more

Great venue for concerts and events. I've seen many shows here and it's always clean, the acoustics are good, the bathrooms are huge (no waiting in line), and the bartenders are friendly and fast. I just wish they would get ALL the shows in SLC because I'm sick of going to dumpy venues like the one a couple of blocks away... read more

I have attended two concerts at The Complex. My first experience was to see RED in one of the smaller venues, it was quite packed, but the sound was pretty good. There was a bar on the top level of the smaller venue which they segregate 21+ (if you want to drink) up top and everyone else on the floor (not their fault, Utards stupid drinking laws). The second concert I saw was Korn last night. (1) The wait was horrible, it wrapped around the block and moved at an OK pace. The staff with exception to a very large Polynesian bouncer checking everyone at the door (he was very nice) were RUDE! (2) they have one door to enter the building and one door to exit the building, which creates a bottle neck. (3) The sound was horrible and muffled, you could barely hear the vocals at first until the sound engineer dialed it in because of the concrete block walls in the venue. I mean I couldn't even hear the words in the vocals, muffled bass. (4) in today's day in age with EVERYONE carrying phones with video cameras and cameras, why in the heck is the venue staff trying to stop people from recording. Come on people, this is a benefit to the performers, where else can they 5,000 people uploading SHORT clips of the concert on their facebook or twitter account, this will DRIVE people to the next concert, or encourage people to check out the performer if they never heard of them. Most people are not recording to sell the video recording, it is a way to document their experience, the things they do in their life, to share their experience with others. If it is the venues policy, then they need to get with the times and realize this is a BENEFIT to the venue. If it was Korns policy, they need to get with the times and realize people are sharing not making money with their phone recordings, plus the sound quality is marginal at best on most phones. I have to say, unless the concert is in the small venue, I will most likely not return to see one in the larger venue as it was horrible sound quality! read more

I went and saw Death Grips here with my boyfriend a few days ago, and we had a blast! This venue is a good size, standing room only with a balcony I saw behind me but didn't look into. The bathrooms were clean. the bar was clean and the bartender (Emily) was fast and friendly. Actually, that could be said about all the staff. The people that worked there were professional and amicable, just doing their jobs. No complaints, I would definitely see another show here! read more

It's alright overall. My biggest issue with the venue is that it is so freaking hot. They either need to get more windows or invest in a retractable roof. The heat makes concerts unbearable and nasty. read more

One of the best venues in Utah!!! I've been to plenty of shows here and definitely prefer hip hop and edm shows. They have four different rooms depending on how big the show is. It's easy to get drinks since they have a few bars to get them from, bar tenders are quick, security is great, and bathrooms are large and clean. I'll be attending more events soon. read more

I've been to the comedy open mic a few times. It's in the smallest room of the four. The sound system is great, and the comedy is good for an open mic. It is 21+ so the comics are alowed to say whatever they want. read more

I can't give the complex even one star. Went to Rodriguez concert the other night and it is by far the worst venue I have ever been to. Virtually no sound system and they packed too many people in there for my comfort. If there was a fire we would all die! I was really excited to see Rodriguez perform but we left half way through the concert It was so bad....I will never go to anything at the complex again. They should stick to being a dance club and forget concerts! read more

By and large, the worst venue in the city, and the state for that matter. One time, I arrived an hour before the doors opened and still missed all of the openers, due to slow and unproductive staff at the door. Oh, and I was not there to see the main act, but the openers that I missed. I emailed the venue the next day about how my purchased ticket ensured the right to the entire show. I received an email many hours later, offering a ticket to a show that night. I agreed, but never got a response. I called when the doors opened and they ensured me that, no, I did not have a ticket and that I would not get in without purchasing one. I didn't go. Another time, I was booted, as a staff member told me to go outside and use a different entrance, and then another staff member told me that there was no reentry. The bouncer came over, acted incredibly rude and walked me to the front gate to speak to the management. He informed them that I had attempted to hit him, and I was immediately sent out of the gate. I have never 'hit' anyone in my entire life. The space is plentiful, and the acoustics are fine. However, the staff, and more importantly, the management, can often be inept, rude, and largely unprofessional. If this venue did not fill a niche as the only indoor 2000-4000 capacity venue in the city, I could not see them lasting long. read more

This is definitely not one of my favorite venues in Salt Lake. There's three main venues within The Complex and each venue has crappier sound than the last. Too much echo, too much reverb, no clarity, it's just overall very mediocre. The lines outside wrap around the block when there's multiple stages in use and it takes a while if you want to wait on it, and this sucks especially in the winter. I recommend if you're of age, step outside of your comfort zone and head to the Sun Trapp right on the corner and let the line die down. It's a gay bar, so hopefully you're not opposed to that. The other thing that sucks is that they used to serve liquor in all three venues, but now they only serve liquor in a tiny bar section in the back where you can't see ANY of the stages. And since it's closed off, you can't leave that bar section until you finish your drink. So unless you're OK with just beer, you won't be getting any hard alcohol, which blows ESPECIALLY when you've spent 100 dollars on VIP tickets and can't even get a drink other than Modelo beer to the VIP section. It's all kind of a rip off to be honest. But they keep bringing in pretty good acts, so I keep finding myself here. It's somewhat infuriating. Plus it's also located in the seediest part of Salt Lake in my opinion. read more

Ok, so i saw X here last night and my review may be biased because I LOVE X and haven't seen them since 2006. This was my first time seeing a show here and based on other reviews I was prepared to be disappointed but I was not!! The show was at The Grand, I was able to get my cocktails and bring them into the show. Maybe this is because it was a 21 and over show. Maybe they restrict this when it's all ages (which is lame, but it's Utah so...). As per usual the drinks are super weak and watered down, but this is due to the VERY RIDICULOUS Utah liquor laws! So I can't fault the venue for that. People complain about the venue itself but I thought it was great, it's small and basic. The bathrooms are large and clean. I see nothing wrong here! Being from Los Angles and keeping in mind the genre of music I like-this place is perfect, i feel right at home! The only difference is that Utah concert goers are awfully polite!! Always makes me laugh!!! But I digress...I agree with some of the other higher rated reviews! You go to a show to be in the crowd, dancing, moshing, singing and letting loose!! The sound quality is not great, but it's a live show, I'm not expecting record/CD quality. I thought the show last night was great and i was definitely able to enjoy the talented guitar and drum work. I the enjoyed this place! read more

Want to watch a concert in a garage? Do it. The complex is no better. Not to mention that They want to charge $50.00 more per person for a table. Drinks are expensive, atmosphere is null and once you check in, you can't leave, or even go to your car! Never again. This one's tricky as this place really encompasses the whole range of the human condition...my most recent visit was one of the strangest shows I've ever been to. Aside from the weird variety of music (Pendulum), the experience with the venue was just odd. We didn't even really need tickets...we just walked in and it was kind of like why did I even pay $20 when really it was a free event? They gave out free water, that was awesome! So many other places could learn from this and that definitely gives them a lot of points. The venue itself was kind of a disorganized mess and it didn't even really seem like there was security around. The crowd at this show went from downright awful (17 year old bros; I didn't even think such a thing was possible, but the pubescent pheremones of moshing children out past curfew trying to rub up on whatever random piece of ass/boob/flesh they could get was unmistakable) to actually really good (mostly older people with good vibes who knew/enjoyed the music). I want to be clear how terrible the crowd was, it wasn't just Salt Lake crowd bad, it was some next level stuff. At one point, an obviously high teenager came up to my friend, looks at her chest and says "I like your boobs" What?!?! The sound quality was fine and once the area started to clear out, there was plenty of room to dance. I've been to a few shows here, but none in which the music, crowd, and general mood took a 180 from some of the worst to actually not so bad. I'd recommend going to a show with music at least two generations older than the current brand so that you might have a halfway decent time. read more

The venue alone isn't as bad as I thought it would be. The staff and the security is what is making me leave this review. I get it, they have a job to do but the way I was approached was all wrong. My friend went to the bathroom and I was standing there by myself waiting for her to come back as I held our place in the front. I was asked by a guy that said "what are you doing here?" I was like "waiting for my friend, she went to the bathroom." And the guy then proceeded to say "I don't believe you." I was obviously not singing because I had no idea who the opener was and that resulted in to 3 security guards escorting me outside, looking me up and down and telling me they received "multiple reports" of me trying to pick pocket money and stuff from other peoples belongings. The most insulting part was I gave them permission to search me and they didn't even try. They looked me up and down and said I could go back inside. I never ended up being able to make it up to the front and my entire night was ruined by the way I was treated by the staff. Either have cameras installed or have more credible witnesses that can point something out. Please find a way to fix read more

The Complex is perhaps the worst sounding place in the entire valley. It is obvious that there isn't an attempt to make the most out of a 'warehouse' of noise. It doesn't matter what the sound system is like, once it leaves the speakers it is bouncing around. Good music turns to a wash of noise both from the venue of the show and the one next door. There is no attempt to make it a reasonably good experience for the customers. Felt ripped off every time I have seen a band there. Don't usually write reviews but couldn't help but try to warn people and bands. Overall, it is just a huge bummer. read more

Not only do the owners of the Complex risk patrons lives by ignoring fire codes but the acoutics are horrible and the air conditioning freezes patrons. Unless they start complying this place is a death trap. Go there at your own peril. My wife and friends attended the Sixto Rodriguez (Sugarman) show last night and they left, ex disappointed, after his first song. The opening act was a joke as well. We will never ever attend a concert at any of there facilities. Grade F. read more

I attended the Safetysuit concert last night. It was held in the Grand. The concert was fabulous. Safetysuit could play in a basement and it would still be great. While The Complex itself was a so so. It was kind of low rent looking. Dark walls and cheesy neon lighting. Very very hot in the very very small bar area upstairs. Large fans or more air circulation needs to be increased immensley. It wouldn't hurt on the lower area either. It's set up more for a Rave type concert. Although many of the concerts scheduled to play there are not that type of music. More seating and tables would be awesome. Maybe even benches along the walls. The bathrooms however were fabulous. Large and fairly clean. No waiting in the potty line. Parking was along the streets near by and was ok considering it was a Tuesday night. Pretty sure it would be awful if the Jazz or another activity was going on nearby at ESA. read more

This venue sucks. They have ridiculous expectations for shows to be over by 10pm and the crowd to be completely cleared out by 10:15. The staff was rude to fans, and made the headlining band stop signing autographs because "it was late and they wanted to go home". Get a new job. read more

Recently went to see my first concert at this venue, and will not be retuning. I went with two friends to see this long anticipated concert, and paid extra for VIP passes because the description for all of the perks made it seem worth it. We were so wrong. The minute we entered the building, we noticed two seperate areas. When asked, we were told that the wing to the right was the VIP area, and the concert would be taking place in the left wing....... What?! There was no seeing the concert from the VIP area. They also included some free things for the purchase of orur passes, so we patiently stood in line forever for our free shirt. When we finally reached the front, the girl told us we were in the wrong line. Instead of just grabbing a shirt for us from the table she was in front of, we had to get to the back of the right line (which took even longer) just to get the shirt from the girl standing right next to the first girl. We finally get there, expecting a band shirt..... But again, we were so wrong. The shirt had the name of one of the guys that runs the place on it. WTF? Needless to say, we tossed the shirts. The acoustics were horrible, the stage was so low that you couldn't really even see the performers, and the bathrooms were so disgusting. I understand that its hard to upkeep them when its busy, but no toilet paper in any of the millions of stalls is unacceptable. The only positive of the whole night was the bartender, and the couple of security guards at the checkpoints. They were definitely too good for this place. We felt completely ripped of by the VIP purchase, and are sad that our first experience here will be our last. read more

The worst venue I've ever attended! Doors opened really late and the show started even later. All the 35 and up people didn't have to show ID so they were able to go around and ahead of the less than 35 and get in before. They have a large section of seats at the front that takes up precious room, especially since they oversold the concert. Everyone in back was packed like sardines which then made everyone irritable and rude. Heaven forbid you want to get a drink or use the bathroom...you'd never get close to your spot again. Lots of fights and no room for dancing. I'll never go to this venue again. read more

I would go with 5 stars but I think the place needs slightly better circulation. I have read the reviews here and was slightly depressed that Nightwish chose this venue. I am glad I decided to give it a go though. The staff were great and the sound was was good for a place like this. For anyone wondering the surrounding neighborhood isn`t bad for walking back to your cars after shows as well. I already have tickets for more upcoming shows there and plan on attending shows there as long as they are around. read more

I attended Imagine Dragons last night at the Complex in the Rockwell venue and it has to be the worst place ever for a concert! Obviously Imagine Dragons was amazing because they would sound great no matter what, but due to the ridiculous set up of the venue... I couldn't see a lot of the show!!! The stage is WAY to low and there is no elevated areas anywhere in the room, so if you get stuck behind anyone tall you won't be able to see a thing! You either have to show up hours before a show to get smashed up at the front or you better be pretty tall to actually enjoy a concert here! I am beyond disappointed with how much I paid and the experience I had! read more

I have been here three times and every time was worst than the last... and the first was horrific. It's a warehouse where they put up some sheetrock with some new paint. At least the new paint smell covers up the stench from people sweating due to no ventilation. That's it. I will never go to another concert here. The staff was ridiculously rude. They're always glaring at you, and I have been accused of buying drugs when giving my friend money for her to go buy food. I went to see chain smokers and I waited in line outside in the rain for TWO HOURS. No efforts to stop line cutting were made so lines went no where and I got sick from being outside so long. There are way too many people pushing VIP passes to skip lines when you sign up and go through the "tiers". When you decline for the pass, they guilt you by telling you things like "oh well you'll have to wait in line next concert while all your friends can go through in the beginning". Uhm no thanks there won't be a next time. Not only is the building sketchy on the outside, there are homeless people/drug addicts lingering around asking for money or cigarettes. Security pat downs are ok, not the best. Most of the ladies are nice but they were allowing draw string backpacks into the venue until my friend came along and they made him leave his backpack outside in the rain behind a dumpster because they felt he was sketchy. After the concert, he went to go get his backpack and they yelled at him for that too! She accused him of trying to hurt other people then told him to leave with us while giving him a light shove. I attended a concert here last night. The location is in a terrible part of Salt Lake so it feels dangerous parking anywhere nearby. Entering the location wasn't too bad. The place is extremely dingy and feels like it hasn't been taken very good care of. When my friends and I went to the "21 and up" side of the room to get some beers, I was told that in order to buy a beer with a credit card, I had to have a minimum purchase of $10. As I didn't have any cash on me at the moment, it was my only option so I had to get two beers instead of the one that I was planning on. After watching for a while, the beers started to hit me so I had to go to the bathroom. When I went in there, it was pretty gross and felt really dirty. There was someone throwing up in the stalls so I got out of there. As I exited the bathroom, two bouncers approached me and said that they heard me throwing up in the bathroom. As I was intoxicated, they wouldn't believe me when I said it was someone else in there. They proceeded to throw me out of the concert for assuming that I was throwing up even though it wasn't me. My $35 ticket went to waste as I barely got to see the headliner. I believe that this is a very poorly ran establishment and will not be getting any of my future business. read more

I went to see Sturgill Simpson last night. I've never seen him live, and I pretty much still haven't. This is hands down, the WORST music venue I have ever been to. I have been attending concerts for over 20 years now, and have seen more shows than I can count. If I could, I would reach out to all the artists who deserve a great venue and tell them NOT to play at the Complex. The second the music came out of the PA I knew it was going to be bad. This venue has made no attempt to accommodate a great music experience. It's a shithole box warehouse where the sound bounces all around the room. They have some half-assed curtain dividing the place. I was so bitter I decided to go drink a beer back in the 'beer garden' area. When Sturgill was talking to the audience I couldn't even make out the words he was saying. I never write reviews; however, fans and artists need to know to avoid this place at all cost!! Such a shame to waste everyone's time and money. DO NOT SUPPORT THE COMPLEX IF YOU TRULY ENJOY MUSIC!! read more
