So I REALLY enjoyed my brunch here this past Sunday. Service was awesome. Prompt and friendly. Food was absolutely delicious. Couldn't decide on just one thing to try, so I ended up ordering two. Kids size of the French Toast (and the server happily brought me a side of the berries and greek yogurt whipped cream that comes with the regular size) as well as 2 eggs over medium, sourdough toast and homefries. The homefries were delectable! Best I've had I think. Coffee was also pretty yummy (which I drink black, so I'm the real expert!). They have outdoor seating and outdoor fans, so even though I got there early-ish and it was heating up, the fans really helped to stay cooler. I'm really diggin' the vibe of the Continental Westhampton. Stopped in for impromptu drinks earlier this week and ended up ordering food because the menu looked so enticing! The little touches really make this spot stand out; the diner-y feel of the server uniforms, the toothpick flags bearing the "CW" stamp, and the printed pint glasses all add to the cool and tastefully kitschy (oxymoron?) atmosphere. We were lucky enough to snag a corner spot on the otherwise packed patio, which made for perfect people-watching. Although not the most high foot traffic of areas, we were still given a prime spot for watching the comings and goings of the Libbie and Grove crowd. I ordered the vodka limeade as my beverage- what else?! And it was right on the money; hitting the spot with its slightly tangy super fresh taste. For food I went with the side salad and 1/2 pound of crab legs. I know, I know, I ordered crab legs at a non-seafood restaurant. But you know what? They were perfect, delicious, and incredibly messy... just how I like 'em. The bf ordered the BLT and enjoyed it, commenting that it had lots of bacon (a plus for meat lovers, I would assume!). I had dinner there recently with my daughter and her three year old. What a wonderful evening. Food was wonderful. She had the lobster roll and I had the brisket. The brisket was the tenderest I have ever experienced. Highly recommended. Also, our server was extremely attentive and the atmosphere is very welcoming. I'm bumping up my star rating to five, because I've really grown to love this place. The staff is ALL wonderful. Everyone smiles and talks to you, and the service is attentive. I've tried several dishes on the menu, and have never been disappointed. The lobster hush puppies are a win as are the fried oysters. Actually, last time I was there I got two order because they're THAT good. Plump, briny, perfectly fried and that fabulous green goddess dressing they make. I've tried the lobster roll, and while YES, it was $15, it was easily 1/2 a lb of lobster meat, dressed beautiful on a classic buttery bun. Not an everyday, but perfect that ridiculously hot summer night where you NEED to eat something cold and delicious. Yesterday, I went for brunch and ordered this portobello mushroom stuffed with gruyere, breaded in panko, fried and then topped with asparagus, poached eggs and chive hollandaise. I'm usually a meat girl but this was AMAZING... and I was happy I tried it. The little one had some french toast.. usually berries (especially blueberries) in restaurants tend to be chalky and kind of gross... the berries on the french toast were plump, juicy and BURSTING with flavor. WIN! We also all tried the maple sausage corn dogs... basically maple sausage, dunked in pancake batter and fried... Cannot go wrong. I've also recently tried some sort of Philly Cheesesteak pizza which was tasty and perfect for absorbing all the Dogfish Head 60 Minute we drank. Unfortunately I got my first speeding ticket on Mother's Day after leaving the Continental but not even that can taint my delicious memory of the place. Chicken and Waffles here is to die for and my mouth is watering just thinking about it. In my most recent visit, I chose a healthier alternative for lunch. I ordered the Three Chopt Salad (in my head I thought it was going to be chopped, dumb of me...) and it was really tasty. I ordered it with no bacon or avocado and added cucumber instead. The portion was huge and it came with jalapeño cornbread! While it was still a somewhat chilly day, I appreciated that we were able to sit at a little table in the covered patio area. Ever had something to eat that tasted so good that you wished the dish would last forever? Great, I'm glad I'm not the only one! Continental is the place to meet (or meat) that need and make that dream a reality. The food is not only scrumptious, but the portions are also extremely friendly. Came here with a group of folks yesterday and started off with a few apps. We had the Disco Fries with Egg as well as the BBQ Oysters. The oysters were tasty and very sizable, which is a departure from what I'm used to. The oysters themselves were tasty, however, the BBQ sauce was a bit overpowering and became really the only thing you could taste in the dish. Now that we've gotten that out the way, here's where the fun begins. I've heard recommendations about the Disco Fries, and I must admit, I was a bit skeptical at the thought of gravy and fries, however, this plate exceeded every expectation I had. Talk about an unbelievably well put together bowl of fresh cut fries, gooooooey cheese, flavorful gravy; all in the glory of your most decorated Christmas tree, only to be adorned at the top with a beautiful fried egg (you have to do the egg by the way, why wouldn't you??). This app almost made me become "that guy" at the table as I watched like a hawk to see my friends grab some more Disco magic, which only then gave me permission to heap more onto my side plate. Just before I lost it and grabbed the whole bowl to myself, my lunch entree came: The Continental Pancake Yes, it deserves a line to itself. I asked the waitress when ordering, "What's the deal with this pancake thing?!" Her eyes lit up, and she smiled as we do reminiscing on glory days past of college and victory, and then I knew. I knew this was the dish for me. They also offer a veggie pancake for those interested. The continental pancake is almost like a Reuben sandwich (with pastrami) that is rolled up in a pancake (comes out looking like a crepe) but it's way better. The pastrami was hot, juicy, and yummy. The continental sauce (thousand island-esque) mixed with sauerkraut was awesome, but what made the dish was the pancake. Because the pancake was stuffed with all this goodness, the flavors of the sandwich (if you will) were soaked in the pancake. This really caused the dish to be "one" with itself, and eventually one with me as I devoured it. It was the perfect combination of both savory and sweet. I had no chance of finishing this, as the other food and my delicious chocolate shake prompted me to take half of the Continental Pancake home only to become my dinner. Made an impromptu trip to Richmond to handle some business with my parents. I chose this place based off of the reviews on Yelp and was happy that I did. First thing first, I despise Richmond... I don't know why...but I don't like that city (maybe because it seems so dirty to me). Anywho, I met my parents at the Continental Westhamptons and was pleasantly surprised that it was in a quint little neighborhood that I wasn't accustom to. Basically, it didn't smell like piss nor did I feel like I was gonna get stabbed (being honest). Even my parents who were traveling from NC to meet me here were like "are we in the right area? Seems like we're in a residential area". I was scared of choosing something in the hipster area that rank of piss for my parents, so when I found out that the location was here I was happy. Moving onto the food and wait service, this place is BOMB for brunch! Everyone in my party loved their dishes (even my overly picky Asian mom thought it was "alright"). Everything for the most part is reasonably priced and the wait staff were awesome!! If you're ever in Richmond DO make a stop by here and do try to get there early because it does tend to get pretty busy. read more

I'd like to give The Continental five stars, but I'm taking a star off for (1) not coming up with a better name and (2) the food and service. To be clear, 3 of our 4 dishes were great, but 1 dish was just good. Service was also a little slow, and I've noticed this on multiple occasions (probably because they are always so busy). The three dishes that were great: brussel sprouts (always love these), Olympic Pizza with Lamb (greek pizza on whole wheat crust, which I love), and my new favorite dessert - Baked Alaska. I'd never had Baked Alaska before, so I had to try it. My description won't do it justice, so just look at the picture, and then give it at ry. Yum. Happy hour only goes until 6pm, which I don't like, but they do have a good selection of beers. I also have had a maragrita there ($7) that was a good size, served in a mason jar, and was very refreshing. If you haven't been here since it was Phil's Continental lounge, you'll appreciate the upgrades on the inside - it feels much more open and new. However, don't expect the young crowd that you'd often see at Phil's; when I've been it has skewed to an average of around 40 years old. read more

This much anticipated "makeover" of Phil's Continental Lounge has been open for a little over a year now. ("Phil's" moved down the street and we will leave it at that). As with any of Giavos' new restaurants, I had high expectations. The atmosphere is top notch- nothing short of cool. The "modern/ retro diner" feel is perfect. I was impressed. On my most recent visit, I enjoyed sipping on some ice cold Shlitz ($2.25 a bottle) and enjoyed the dirty chip app which was simple, yet delicious- house made potato chips covered with cheese, bacon and served with house made ranch. I have since returned about 4-5 times for either food or drinks (or both). The beer prices are almost perfect. The house liquor at $6 is high, but it's not rail- its in the Svedka Vodka, Cruzan Rum, etc line... mid shelf. I do wish they offered a rail price level, but the way they have it maintains a level of "class". I have tried multiple appetizers, sandwiches and will try an entree the next time. The Club sandwich is a monster- enough to split. The Roasted Turkey sandwich was good, with a nice cranberry sauce that was refreshing and flavorful. It's one of those places where everything on the menu looks delicious. This place has been (expected) consistently busy during Happy Hour and dinner, so expect a wait for a table. Overall, I am very pleased with the job they have done, and excited to have a great new restaurant/ bar in Richmond, especially in this area. Although the food doesn't blow you away, it is prepared well, and is tasty. The bartenders are quick, and the shorter guy with grey hair was very friendly and prompt. Yesterday I was in search of a restaurant that I've never been to before. Though a Yelp search, I came across The Continental Westhampton. The pictures of the food looked very appealing and the menu prices on the website looked very reasonable. I went to this restaurant around 11:00am and here is my review. The Good: Hospitality- Upon entering the restaurant, all of the employees appeared to be very friendly and willing to answer any question that guests had. Some of the employees had a great sense of humor and went above and beyond the call of duty to help customers decide what food they may want to order. Taste- I ordered the Chicken and Waffles. The meal came with one waffle, a drumstick and boneless thigh. The waffle was fresh and one of the best waffles that I have ever tasted. The fried chicken was good but could have used a tad more seasoning. I was a little disappointed that they did not serve the dish with white meat instead of dark. Price/Portion Size- From observations, all of the brunch menu items were under $10 and the portion sizes were very generous. The Bad: THE WAIT!!!- I don't know how this restaurant is around 3-4pm, but yesterday the restaurant was jam packed. The wait to be seated was 35 minutes. After being seated, the wait to receive food after placing the order was at least 30 minutes. While I understand that a big crowd can impact a wait time, it might be wise to eat a sandwich or some chips before coming here during its busy time. Overall- This is a nice restaurant, staff are great, food is tasty and the cooks give you plenty of it. The only thing that's stopping me from giving this place five stars is having to wait over an hour to be seated and served. Patience is something that I would have to work on in the future. I really like this place for brunch. I always get a salad because they are huge, fresh and delicious and for what you get not expensive. Maybe the best salads in town. I generally steal some fries from someone else. It's lively and great for people watching. You might have to wait for a table and you might get one of the big booths if you are lucky. I have had cocktails and brunch at the bar as well. My only complaint with the place is service. I just don't understand what the issue is. Nice kids, but there isn't any sense of urgency. You will grow old waiting for a check. My to go order came out on a plate. I had to ask for to go ketchup more than once and I didn't have an attitude and said thank you every time but somehow I felt like an a-hole. Why? Because I had to keep asking, not because I was a-hole. Maybe that last time was a fluke, the previous visits weren't as service deficient. Overall I dig this place for lunch or brunch. read more

Huge portions of good food for a great price. My boyfriend and I came here for an early lunch and got their namesake club and pancakes (both were $8.95). The club comes with your choice of sourdough, rye, or wheat bread and fries, chips, or slaw as your side. We opted for the sourdough and fries. The club came in two portions and was packed with their slow smoked turkey and ham and each end was topped with crispy bacon. My boyfriend could barely eat through half of his sandwich. Their fries were homemade and thickly sliced which we enjoyed. The Continental pancake was one ginormous pancake stuffed with pastrami, swiss, saurkraut, their Continental sauce and topped with a dallop of Greek yogurt. It was uniquely delicious. We have been here before for brunch and decided to come here for dinner. Started off with lobster hushpuppies and i think that was the best thing i ate all night! So good and with good chunks of lobster in it. For dinner i had the cuba libre burger cooked with some pink. It came out cooked perfectly but was rather dry that i used ketchup to dip it in. Also the pork really didn't have much flavor. But i still enjoyed it. The boyfriend got the Home Rune burger that had some kind of spicy bbq sauce on it i think, and he said it was really good too. I've been to the Continental several times over the years, and its been really good every time. But the best time I have ever had was when we went for brunch recently. Brunch is a favorite meal, so a good brunch can really make or break a restaurant for me. I absolutely loved the brunch at the Continental. True to form for the restaurant, it has a large menu. Sometimes this has been a downfall for me in regards to their dinner (there just SO much going on with the menu that it can be hard to make a decision). But they had a great variety of original options covering a large spectrum to meet anyone's needs. We did have a long wait, but it was Mother's Day weekend and to be expected. I have to get specific credit to the Bloody Mary. They give you three options: Regular, Spicy, and Dill. I got the Spicy and my husband got the Dill. Both were wonderful but the Spicy was AWESOME! Once we were done, another table gave us a tip to ask for a Spicy Dill next time, so I am looking forward to trying that! read more

Man oh man how I really wanted to give this place five stars. Maybe my expectations were set too high, again.. I think my favorite meal of the day is brunch and the Continental Westhampton was just mediocre at best. Our wait time for Sunday Brunch around 11AM was only a couple of minutes which was surprising, especially for just two of us. The restaurant was packed, the patrons all seemed to be having a good time and the front of house operations seemed to work pretty smoothly. Our food came out to us in a decent amount of time, probably around 10 minutes. I got the gruyere mushroom benny and my gf got the lobster frittata. My dish was just okay.. the seasoning wasn't unique/flavorful and the fried cheese was also sub par for me. My favorite part of my meal was actually the homefries (please dont hate me). They had a slight crunch on the outside and was cooked to perfection on the inside and were very tasty; I could probably eat a whole plate of those. The interior decor, mainly the hanging lights from the ceiling were very festive and welcoming. The service was pretty average and our waitress checked on on us a couple times. I also got a limeade which was too tart for my liking and I heard so much about their limeades as well. I think my gf liked her frittata but wasn't overly impressed with it either. Possibly we got the wrong items on the menu...? Or maybe my palette isn't as refined as everyone elses? lol. I really want to give this place another shot though. This was only the 2nd time I had been here. Last time was years ago. This time, I got the Club Sandwich. It really stood out as a high quality sandwich, I was surprised. I've never had a Club Sandwich this good. You could tell that the meats and cheeses were high quality, and thickly sliced. The rye bread I chose was also very good, kind of chewy, they way a good bread should be. The thick sliced pickles that came on the side were nice. The Spinach & Feta Pot Pie, Baked Goat Cheese & Honey, and Brussels Sprouts with sriracha, honey & lime are all to die for. There is a decent number of local brews plus mixed drink service. A group of 5 came here for brunch on a Saturday and had a wonderful experience. The vibe is so fun and the menu was quite unique and pretty cheap! The portions and quality of food were top notch. It was less crowded than I expected, which was a relief because I was starving. Service was speedy, though not particularly friendly. Despite the interesting menu, I went with what I was craving after a long marathon training run- an omelette. I had it with ham, cheddar and tomatoes. It was scrumptious and was served with a hefty pile of home fries and toast. My friends all enjoyed their food too- the breakfast pies and french toast looked SO good; I must come back to try!
