I was staying at the Richmond Westin and one evening after having a business dinner elsewhere. I stopped in at this bar for dessert before heading up to my room. I wanted some sambuca, but they had none, which is disappointing. I did see a banana bread pudding dessert, so I opted for that. The single bartender who was working was crazy busy that it took him about 15 minutes to put in my order, then by the time I got it, it was cold, as it took another 15 minutes for him to finally run back to the kitchen to get it. They were quite busy that evening, but that's not my problem, nor his... There was a server handling the dining room area and I think that was all I saw. They really need better staffing and MUCH BETTER MANAGEMENT, as running out of a popular digestif in a popular hotel really isn't acceptable. The flavor of my banana bread pudding was nice, but the temperature messed it up. Overall, I'm glad I wasn't tied to "having to eat here" like other business travelers might be... There's very little in the close area and nothing in walking distance from here. But I'll not ear here again. I visit the Richmond area very often for business and though I liked the hotel stay, I didn't like this experience, so I'd probably choose to stay at the downtown Richmond Marriott or the Short Pump Hilton next time instead, just because both have a true "full service" offering, including a nice bar. read more

Come here every year for a coworker reunion and always enjoy the service. It is located in the lobby of the Westin Hotel. Ample seating in a laid back classy atmosphere. Seats are comfortable with a very classic breakfast menu. I got the Classic American breakfast with the savory maple bacon! My side was a fruit cup that tasted as if they had just picked the fruits from their respective trees. The whole wheat toast was a thick cut fulfilling portion. My wife got the Eggs Benedict that was decorated with fresh arugula with a hint of olive oil. My mother and I came here for dinner last week. The server was very friendly, but was not to be found for long periods of time even though there were minimal tables sat. I had the scallop risotto which was delicious. My mother had the gochujang salmon which was over cooked and you could not taste any gochujang on it. The restaurant is in the lobby of a hotel. The food is excellent and the window lined restaurant is bright and airy. The only consistent problem here is untrained and understaffed personnel. Our waitress was very kind. She gave suggestions and good vibes. In the restaurant the lighting was great. One of the only things that was on the downside was the menu wasn't the biggest. Mother's Day Brunch at the Westin/Small Batch Kitchen was wonderful. The Small Batch restaurant is just off the lobby of the Westin, but when checking in for our reservation we found out they had set up the Mother's Day Brunch Buffet in one of their ballrooms. There was a second podium near the ballroom and they had roses for all the ladies. The room was well set and decorated, with pink napkins and a name card at each table for our reservation. This was a full buffet and well worth the $$ for the occasion. A full breakfast buffet, along with pastries and an omelet station. Then a carving station with Smithfield ham and roast turkey. An additional buffet was set up with hot main course items like vegetables, chicken, salmon, rice, and more. One final station had several really nice dessert items as well. We appreciated the set up of all the buffet areas as they were in different areas of the room allowing for all parties to access what they wanted. There was no crowding or lines for the buffet. I just took one of those little jam packages, opened and ate it. Food finally came. Although they forgot spouse's side of bacon. I strongly discourage anyone going out of their way to eat here. My eggs Benedict was super salted. Too much so. And understand I am a person who will eat the salt right from the shaker. Clearly not a good place for me. I had the pleasure of dining here for dinner on Saturday and breakfast on the following Sunday. Dinner was great - honey siracha wings with fries and the cheeseburger. Breakfast was OK, but it was missing something. Perhaps the seasonings ... But the service was pleasant on both dining experiences. I really enjoyed the bartender on Saturday night, Raymond. He was super helpful in helping us choose a meal. And his bartending skills were on point. The bar scene was nice. TV's all around the seating at the bar was spacious. The restaurant also features a lounge area, very nice! Other than us, persons were dining alone at the bar, but casually were interacting with each other. A few guests were in groups of 6+ enjoying themselves on the wrap around couches. It was just a nice vibe throughout the night. He served with a smile and had recommendations that were top notch. Took forever for the coffee and food to come out, had to speak with multiple waiters/waitresses to get our food. Sure, they were definitely understaffed, but we waited for over an hour to get our food, which is unacceptable. I know that they say things are slower in the South, but this was next level. Had a person in our group physically get up and search for a staff member to find out what was going on. Once I received my food, it was fine. Had an egg white and spinach omelette along with a cup of fruit. Fruit was fresh and omelette was cooked correctly, but just can't get over how long it took. I got places to be. After a 10 hour drive I was ready for some dinner. I didn't want to get back in the car again so we opted for the restaurant in our hotel. Hotel restaurants can vary a lot from the abysmal to in some cities 4 star restaurants. I did not read any review before eating here. I was very pleasantly surprised at how good it was . The menu is small but diverse. I took a change on the Garden Gnocchi . It was superb. The gnocchi were properly cooked and tender . The corn puree and the rest of the dish were perfect. . My wife dad the charcuterie board which was substantial for the price. The meats were excellent but I have to call out the cheeses. The were different and very flavorful. This was a thought out combination and not just a haphazard combination of mediocre meats and cheese. We stay at the bar and our bartender was excellent . Food service was punctual . Wines were reasonable and a good size pour. . The restaurant has well spaced tables and a comfortable bar. This is a way above average for a hotel restaurant and worth a trip on its own read more

We've been to small batch several times and has never been disappointed, it's my mom's favorite restaurant. She picked it for New Year's Eve, Mother's Day and most recently her birthday. We always get the Brussel sprouts as an appetizer which are always perfectly cooked and have a deliciously sweet honey drizzle. I've had both the salmon and the crab cakes as an entree. The salmon has a slightly sweet glaze, never tastes fishy and is perfectly portioned so you don't feel miserable after the meal. The crab cakes are big with very little filling and a spicy remoulade. I had to take leftovers home from that meal. They were out of chicken wings last time we were there but I recommend them. I like the sriracha sauce best but all three options are really good. My boyfriend opted for the vegan dinner, fried tofu, he's had it before and it's one of his favorites. My mom likes the Reuben and the salmon and the cheese burger and the crab cakes and the cheesecake.... One other great selling point is they source food locally, which is something I look for in restaurants we visit frequently. They also change the menu with the seasons so you always get the freshest seasonal selection of fruits and vegetables. read more

The Details I am traveling for work. Hotel restaurants are notorious for not having food that meets people's dietary restrictions. At face value and with initial questions, this restaurant seemed to be like all hotel restaurants - Butternut squash soup made with chicken broth, salads with non-substantial vegetables, and vegetarian sandwiches with no gluten free bread option. When I initially shared my dietary restrictions, my server Dawn asked the kitchen about alternate food options for me. She even went to find the package of rice noodles to verify they were really gluten-free. Regrettably, the package did not show the noodles were gluten-free. She said to err on the side of safety to try an alternative: gluten-free pasta. The chef offered to boil, then fry the gluten-free spaghetti into Asian crispy noodles. I created a salad with these noodles, mixed greens, Napa cabbage, vegetable ribbons, and grilled pesto Portabella mushrooms. The salad came with sherry shallot vinaigrette dressing. The food was made with concern, served with a smile, And tasted amazing. The pesto mushrooms work well with the Asian-themed ingredients, and paired well with the sherry shallot vinaigrette. I don't remember the last time I had a meal at a hotel that tasted this good! While the salad is not on the menu, all of the ingredients are in other menu items. I recommend calling ahead to make sure they have gluten-free pasta to use for the noodles. Beautiful restaurant in the Westin Richmond Hotel. This place was extremely well-designed. Dark woods, big picture windows, nice furniture. Service at breakfast was attentive and efficient, and the food was delicious. We had: a bagel with cream cheese and smoked salmon, a Belgian waffle and whole grain-flaxseed pancakes with bananas and blueberries. The latter was the standout, although the flax seeds do have a unique taste that not everyone would appreciate. The side of Virginia country ham was truly outstanding, That stuff is really an artisanal product that can stand proudly alongside prosciutto and Spanish hams. I had thought about leaving the hotel and going downtown to hunt for a nice meal and I'm glad I was lazy. Anywhere I had gone would have had a hard time competing with that meal. All of the flavors were spot on and complementary. The portions were surprisingly abundant. The only drawback was not within control of the restaurant. A family with unruly kids and a belief that those dining around them were as enthralled with the constant squealing as they were. Just finished a fantastic steak dinner ribeye with finger potatoes, broccoli, roasted grilled tomatoes, and bread with roasted tomatoes butter. The steak was well prepared and seasoned just right, the broccoli needed a touch of salt, and the finger potatoes were great. We also ordered crab cakes and those were perfect lump crab & served with asparagus, mashed potatoes, and a mango salsa-very good. In addition, ordered the flash burger-OMG, the patty was about 1/3 to 1/2 pound with a fried egg, bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomatoes-outstanding. The only issue here is the service was very slow and not as attentive as I expect. The server was friendly and made a few rounds-I just expected more for this type of restaurant.
