My weekday lunch at Jack's proved delightful. My corn chowder soup tasted just right - not too salty and not heavy. Plus, the soup had some 'bite' which gave it a satisfying texture. My cappuccino however, was far too frothy. My buffalo chicken wrap truly hit the spot with its crispy chicken and non-overly flavorful buffalo sauce. Because the avocado was not smashed to give it that 'guacamole in a burrito texture,' the chipotle mayo spread therefore substituted perfectly as a pairing with the buffalo marinade. The waiter also honored my request for providing bread as a side for the soup and Ranch dressing along with my onion rings. The restaurant was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday afternoon but the ambiance was not overbearing. My last positive feedback concerns Jack's reasonable menu pricing. Jack's menu prices appear above par with its American cuisine competitors including Denny's and the Cheesecake Factory in respect of its food quality. read more

Jack's is an incredibly consistent & reliable restaurant. You always know what to expect - and it'll never be less than that, which is what makes it such an easy restaurant to choose when someone asks where to meet for dinner. This is especially true for the wait staff. They are attentive, attuned, & genuine in their kindness - clearly rooted in customer service, but not overly committed to phony pleasantries. They're just real people. Our waiter, Nereo, was one of the most thoughtful waiter's we've encountered at Jack's. He did a really nice job balancing the check-in's with allowing space & time for my friend and I to catch up. We never felt rushed, and we also never felt forgotten. We'll be back! My mom, sister, and I went for a lunch and immediately when I arrived, the staff was so great. Marlene and Someone else were at the front and both were very friendly. And then there was another person who sat us and he was very nice also. We enjoyed our food, a chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries was my dish and that was delicious and my sister enjoyed her barbecue chicken salad. And my mom had the burger. Everyone was pleased. Great all around! Stopped in for a weekday lunch after not being here for 10+ plus. This place is really good. Classic comfort dishes done very well! I wish I got a picture of my food but I was so hungry I dove right in to my French dip. The sandwich was stacked high with tender meat on one nice soft roll. The fries on the side were cooked especially well as they were exactly to my liking of being a little extra fried and crispy! Oh my! Does this restaurant get busy on a Saturday night! I've been here for lunch but never during dinner. The wait was about 30 minutes but we only waited for 10 minutes for a party of 3. Not bad! I always thought this restaurant looked pretty inside, especially the staircase in the main dining room. They sat us outside in a heated patio area; but I prefer sitting indoors instead. The dinner menu was more than I expected. So many options and I was so happy to see my favorite soup on the menu, Avgolemono -- Greek soup. Our waitress was very attentive and always checking on us. During this visit, we ordered the lamb meatballs, Asian chicken salad, chili mac n cheese, and shrimp louie salad. Of course I ordered my cup of favorite soup! My Asian chicken salad was ok. There wasn't that much chicken in my salad, it was mostly lettuce and fried won tons. Loved my soup as always, but in all honesty, I wasn't fond of the meatballs. It had a spicy kick to it and it just had an overwhelming taste of cinnamon. It just wasn't for me. Overall dining experience was top tier but the food was ok. The bread was a bit hard and definitely not ordering the meatballs again. The portions were perfect and the service was great. I spoke to Matt the manager and have not heard back at all they don't care the risk they put their customers under, We spoke on Saturday at around 2:00 p.m. after I called regarding an issue with my meal from the previous evening, Friday at approximately 5:00 p.m. My husband and I visited the restaurant to enjoy dinner and a few drinks. We ordered appetizers, drinks, and our entrées. When our food was brought to the table, the server was carrying both of our plates. She served my husband's meal but then took my plate back without any explanation. When she returned with my meal, I asked why she had taken my plate back. She told me she noticed the plate was cracked and had taken it back to have a new meal prepared. I was very impressed with her decision and appreciated what I believed was her attention to customer safety. I did not finish my meal at the restaurant because we had already eaten appetizers and had drinks, so I took most of my meatloaf and mashed potatoes home. The following day, while eating the leftovers, I suddenly felt a hard crunch. At first, I thought I had broken a tooth. Because I was eating mashed potatoes, I had already swallowed most of the bite, but I still felt something hard in my mouth. I removed a piece of white porcelain from my mouth. It was extremely alarming. I called the restaurant within an hour of the incident to report what had happened. It was very disappointing to discover that my meal had apparently not been remade as I was told. Instead, it appears the food from the broken plate was simply transferred onto another plate. This exposed me to a serious safety risk. I swallowed an unknown amount of broken porcelain, and there is no way of knowing how much may have been ingested. While I cannot determine exactly how much porcelain I swallowed, I know that I did ingest some of it. The fact is that someone at the restaurant failed to follow proper food safety procedures. This incident could have resulted in a much more serious injury or even a life-threatening situation. Had the proper precautions been taken after the plate was found to be broken, this could have been completely avoided. I have attached pictures of the glass piece i managed to remove from my mouth. It has now been 3 days since i spoke to the manager and they have not even tried calling me to check my status or to at least refund me what i paid after this traumatic experience. read more

Was in town for work and had been to this spot once before. Wound up going in for dinner two nights in a row (I enjoy the back / tap room). Griffin is a great server, and the food is excellent (I had the carbonara night one, gyro night two). And they had Pliny on draft, which is a nice baseline for any pub experience. I've been a fan for about 10 years and absolutely love their French dip sandwich. Salads, mains and breakfast are all great too. Their empire also includes an attached Taproom and a nearby Mexican spot. They seem to be doing something right. Service is always friendly and efficient. Parking is a little tight at peak meal times but a short walk easily solves that issue. Very conveniently located if you're seeing a film at the nearby movie theater. read more

Visited on a Saturday around 11:45 and the place was packed which was a good sign. The restaurant is spacious and there was plenty of room to walk between tables. My sister and I were able to snag two seats at the bar right away but there was a wait for tables. The bartender was friendly and attentive so our beverages stayed full and our order was placed very quickly. The Ruben was very good, I order them a lot from various places and was impressed with the quality. We ordered it with a side of onion rings and they were great too. The chicken sandwich was a bit overdone and not quite what we were hoping for because it was so tough to chew but the sweet potato fries were great. My husband and I enjoy dining at Jack's. It's truly a gem in Pleasant Hill. The atmosphere is always upbeat and offer great service. We dined in the bar area which has half-done bench seats. It was very comfortable. Our server/bartender name was Jack. He was very nice and friendly. My husband ordered their smashed burger with fries. It was good, but had soggy buns. LOL. I had their Tutto Mare, which is my favorite seafood pasta. The serving is BIG and I always take some home. Jack, our server, asked if I wanted him to pour the leftovers in the box. Jack's is such a great spot for a comforting breakfast! The blueberry pancakes were absolutely delicious--fluffy, flavorful, and a must-try. We also ordered the standard breakfast, which comes with eggs any style, crispy hash browns, toast, and your choice of meat. The chicken apple sausages were a standout: thick, delicious, and you get three of them--a really generous portion of protein with the eggs. The corned beef hash was also tasty and well-seasoned. I tried the hot chocolate too; it was a bit sweeter than I prefer, but still a nice treat on a chilly day. We also had a kid in our group with gluten and dairy allergies, and the staff offered options and were very accommodating, which was great to see. Service overall was friendly and attentive. Another big plus: lots of seating. Even at 12 PM on a Sunday, we didn't have to wait for a table. It's a large, busy place, but it runs smoothly. I wanted to like this restaurant because our server was friendly and attentive, but the food was a major disappointment. l've ordered Petrale sole at many restaurants over the years, and it's always been a delicate, boneless fish. Unfortunately, the first bite of my meal was full of bones, and I had to remove them from my mouth. I couldn't continue eating it. If I had to guess, it didn't even taste like Petrale sole-it seemed more like trout. What surprised me most was that the waiter never asked why I hadn't touched my entrée, despite nearly the entire plate being left untouched. That seemed like a missed opportunity to address the problem. Based on this experience, we won't be returning. There are simply too many better dining options in the area. read more

I drove out to the East Bay to meet up with family for dinner in Pleasant Hill at this wonderful restaurant named Jack's restaurant & Bar. My sister and uncle arrived before me so they ordered appetizers of chicken wings both buffalo and Korean wings as well a the Mediterranean platter not pictured since we tore it up expeditiously. My sister got full on the appetizers lol. My mom ordered the chicken Alfredo... my youngest nephew the chile nachos, my eldest nephew the spaghetti and meatballs, my uncle the Shrimp Louie salad and I ordered the Bay shrimp said with a glass of Pinot Noir. We all sampled each other's dishes and let me tell you the chefs did not disappoint. I loved my bay salad it was so refreshing and I love the amount to shrimp to heart of palm ratio. The chicken Alfredo had the perfect amount of sauce and broccoli and chicken and the pasta was cooked to a perfect al dente. My nephew's nachos looked good but he ate them up so fast I didn't get to try them, but the presentation was nice. My other nephew's spaghetti and meatball were superb and delicious you can tell they make their own marinara and my uncle's shrimp Louie was huge and delicious the amount of shrimp was crazy and well worth it. Our waitress Janell was amazing and made sure we had everything we needed. She even made sure my little Maverick had water. By the way the patio is dog friendly! Great spot in downtown pleasant hill. My grandma loves the French dip and they have a good selection of entrees and appetizers. I usually get one of their burgers or their Mac and cheese. One of my coworkers chose this place for our company lunch. I am a mortician for Diablo Valley Cremation in Concord. This was my first time eating here so I wanted to get something a little different . I chose the polenta and oh my goodness it was so so delicious.. Eva was very informative and shared they would try to accommodate indoor seating, but we may need to be out on the patio due to size. I was fine with that as long as we were all seated together. She also informed me that parties of 8 or more 20% gratuity would automatically be included in the bill. I was okay with that because that's pretty much standard. I asked about an outside cake and was informed that is acceptable and they can store for us until it's time. There was a $2 per person cutting fee, which was ok. When my party arrived, we were greeted by multiple people who made us feel welcomed. Due to the size of our party we were placed in the "Party Room" which was the perfect size for us and had double doors out to the outside area. It was perfect. Was craving some soup, Jacks is close to my house so I called to ask what soup they had and was told Potato Leek. I placed an ordered for the bowl size to-go as that was a medium based on the available sizes they had and I was hungry. Upon arriving for pick up, I was told my soup was being made because they ran out and it would be a bit before it was ready. I asked if maybe I should order something else because I was unsure if the soup would be good if they were just making it. The host who was helping me said it would be even better because its fresh and that it is a tasty soup with lemon and chicken. I asked, Potato Leek soup has lemon and chicken? He said, oh no, I put in the wrong item for you, let me go back and check. He then came out with the potato leek soup to go. I paid and left. Upon arriving home, I sat down to eat the soup. This is the most disappointing, flavorless, odd consistency soup I've ever had in my 51 years of life. I had about 4 spoonfulls hoping it would grow on me but no, it didn't. The consistency was like a more finly pureed malt-o-meal, no chunks of potatos or leeks, just a bland pureed no flavor mal-o-meal. Or even if you watered down instant mashed potatoes to a soup consistency is the best way to explain it. It didn't taste like leeks or potatoes, just a complete lack of flavor. Needless to say, I had to toss the soup in the garbage with only 4 teaspoons eaten from it. What a waste of my money on the smallest "bowl" of soup anyone could ask for. DO NOT ORDER the Potato Leek Soup unless you like to spend $11.28 after tax and tip on instant mashed potatoes that have been watered down to the point of being able to drink it thru a straw and has zero flavor. read more
