I normally love this store chain and visit several locations regularly, but unfortunately this particular location has consistently disappointed me--and not because of their products or prices. The issue is the staffing and overall customer experience. This was only my second visit. My first experience was great: friendly staff, easy shopping, no issues. However, my most recent visit was the complete opposite. I was shopping for face washes and skincare, and I stopped to look at a few new items from Origins, a brand I've used for years. One product in particular--the Apple Peel--didn't clearly describe what it was or how to use it. There were no samples available, and the packaging didn't indicate whether it was a mask, toner, scrub, or moisturizer. So I opened the box to check... and immediately the employee, who had been friendly at first, told me, "We don't allow customers to open boxes." That would've been fine if the product information had been clear or if samples were available or if the employee actually knew what the product was. I asked her what the item was supposed to be, and instead of answering, she told me she once bought their hand cream and "it smells amazing." I asked again if she knew whether it was a mask, toner, or something else, and she repeated that it "smells so good." This didn't help at all. She offered to look at it up for me but she did not , she was busy training/complaining to a new hire at the store . Since she wouldn't let me look inside and clearly knew nothing about the product, I purchased it anyway hoping it was a peel or exfoliant. Once I got home, I opened it--and it turned out to be just a toner. I definitely didn't need another toner, but at that point it was too late. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was how she hovered over me the entire time, constantly asking if I needed help. I understand offering assistance, but when a customer is clearly reading product labels, comparing items, and not asking for help, hovering feels intrusive. There was even a security guard right inside the front door, so the level of monitoring from the employee felt excessive. My bigger concern is that this store offers no samples for many of the products yet discourages customers from verifying what they're buying--or even checking to make sure items aren't damaged, leaking, or previously opened. That's a basic quality-control step, especially when buying gifts. Ultimately, my issue is not with the store itself but with the lack of staff training. Employees should know the products they're selling or at least make a genuine effort to look them up when asked. Customers shouldn't feel rushed, hovered over, or prevented from understanding what they're purchasing. read more

It is a very rare thing for me to give out one star reviews. But alas, I have to say that this place warrants it. Was just in here and the girl who worked there was acting like it was a privilege for me to be in the store. To top that off, hardly anything has prices on it, and you always have to ask what the price of some thing is. They don't have testers for everything and when I opened the lid to smell a product to see if I wanted to buy it (it was hair conditioner), She shouted at me me "you can't open that!". Wow. This store is located in the Folsom outlet mall and is a welcome addition to the outlet mall after the loss of the old luxury cosmetics store which I often visited and shopped for discounted products from Kiehl's and Yves Saint Laurent. The store is light and bright and just a short walk down the path past front facing end cap store Famous Footwear. They offer specific brands owned by Estée Lauder parent company: Aveda, Bobbi Brown, Bumble and Bumble, Clinique, Estée Lauder, MAC, Origins, Too Faced, etc. There's also a substantial fragrance section. Makeup, skin and hair care are all well represented. The discounts are deep, all sales are final, and there are samplers to test items. Last chance items are offered as well, typically discontinued products. I was able to purchase a 1 liter Aveda shampoo from a discontinued product line (Scalp solutions) that I loved. The herbal fragrance reminds me of my childhood fave Wella Balsam. The price was right, $30- half off! I was helped by a friendly and kind salesperson. I'll definitely be back! read more

I went to this cosmetics company store in Folsom, and from the start the experience was disappointing. There was a sign saying, "At lunch, will be back at 4:30," but the associate didn't show up until about ten minutes later. That didn't bother me at all -- what did bother me was how she acted once she came back. The moment my mom, sisters, and I walked in (some of us wearing hijabs), her whole energy changed. She towered over us, made us feel unwelcome, and watched us like we were doing something wrong. At one point, I simply looked at a shade from the bottle, like every other customer was doing , and she got mad at me, while other people were literally opening products and she said nothing. I brushed it off thinking maybe she was having a bad day and still went ahead to buy lip glosses, even though I wanted to get more. The next day, I went back hoping to have a normal experience, but no, she was there again. I tried to keep it simple and asked the manager if I could swatch a few La Mer foundation shades. Her response? "No, in America we don't let customers behind this point." Excuse me? That was rude, unnecessary, and discriminatory. I was literally asking before stepping anywhere; obviously, I know the rules. She grabbed random shades that didn't match my skin tone while ignoring the actual shades that did. For a store that claims to represent beauty and diversity, this was honestly embarrassing. I was shocked, especially because both employees were Latinas. You'd think, having experienced prejudice themselves, they'd show more empathy and professionalism instead of making others feel uncomfortable. I'm actually surprised to see so many bad reviews for this store. My best friend and I stopped here yesterday after doing a little shopping. We were immediately greeted and asked if we needed any help. I was interested in the Clinique cleansing balm and the price was a steal. They had several other products between 40% to 75% off so I picked up some other items as well. After she rang up my total, she gave me several free gifts (full size Aveda body lotion, Estée Lauder lip scrub and two MAC samples). I spent approximately 80.00 and went home with a lot of products. I came really early to check on their stuff. I touched one of their last chance item and the lady with short kind curly hair was sooooo rude she right away said we can't open that one in very rude voice like she maybe thinking I can't afford their products. I'm Asian . I feel very discriminated by her. She never offers for help, no good morning, or how are you the only voice I've heard was WE CANT OPEN that one. Kinda scary specially you are there to spend your money . It's not worth it to save a couple dollars to come here if employees treated you bad.. she never offers to help.I asked for help and nobody helps me and instead give me a look. SCAMMERS. DO NOT BUY FROM THEM UNLESS YOU PLAN TO GET YOUR MONEY STOLEN. I bought a moisturizer, cleanser, & mask set here. I finally came around to opening it and realized it was missing the mask and had a duplicate moisturizer. Clearly someone tampered with the package and switched out a moisturizer for the mask. Instead of honoring the product they were suppose to have sold me the cashier "Ria" REFUSED to give me an exchange even with the original packaging, unopened products, and receipt. I understand they have a no refund policy but I wasn't asking for my money back, just an even exchange for what I PAID FOR. The "store manager" "Veronica Martin" then gave me a FRAUDULENT customer service number. That I called immediately after, and they claimed they weren't the customer service number to The Cosmetics Company store. I went back again and they gave me no new number, no alternative solution, just a "that's the number I have" response. It might just be my luck, but this is the second or third time I've come here looking for a few things with them being closed for lunch or a break. The picture added to this review is right now as I've shown up. This is the third time now. I decided to actually write a yelp review over it (haven't written one in some time). Don't shop here unless you want to be scammed by the employee. went to the store and they had an item in the 75% off section with multiple of that item and the employee told me it was 75% off. After I checked out and saw the receipt it didn't ring up and showed it to her. Then she told me since I already checked out and its final sale there's nothing she could do and had no remorse for her mistake. It was false advertising where there was multiple of the item is in the sale section and I was physically told it was. I had such an awful experience here. I had just visited for the second time just to be followed and nagged at. I was shopping with my boyfriend and the entire time the employee was "facing and cleaning" around us. If we had moved she had followed us to that side. On top of that, she would rudely walk in between my boyfriend and I without excusing herself. It seems like a common issue runs with your staff, retrain them. It's one thing to be annoying and overly friendly but it's another to treat regular customers like thieves. There is a problem every single time we try to shop here. They close the entire store down for an hour or two at a time while the staff go on breaks/lunches. We once waited 45mins outside in line because there were two people shopping inside (limited capacity). Just when they were checking out and we thought it was our turn, the worker came to tell us that they were going to close the store for 1hr after the customer inside left because they needed to take their breaks!!! Seriously??? She couldn't have mentioned that before we waited 45mins? We tried to go there again today and there's a sign on the door saying to text someone and they can send pics of inventory from inside the store and will ship it to me or I can pay cash through the door! The customer service is great. However, due to Covid there is a 3 person max capacity at a time. My issue isn't so much the capacity, it's more so with the dumb inconsiderate people who stay in the store damn near an hour or so with no regards to others who are waiting outside.
