I love Artichoke Cafe. I've been here several times since 2013, but not in the last 6 years. The service is friendly, the food amazing. Today, I came for an early lunch before heading back to MKE. I had the fried artichoke hearts, which i love, the steak fries with chimichurri was fantastic. I also had the creme brulee, great! I have had all of these dishes in the past. They were just as amazing as I remember. Initially, I was the only customer, so i spoke with the manager a bit. I was able to compliment the chef as I left. Was this a cheap lunch? No. But it was close my to my hotel, and the food was excellent. It was a treat to be back in ABQ. read more

This restaurant was not too far from the hotel I was staying at so some colleagues and I decided to check it out. The set up is interesting with different dining areas that are secluded -- we were sat in an area that was elevated and had a nice corner area. As a pescatarian and dairy free diner, my options were limited but I did order the butter leaf salad with oranges and grapefruit as well as the market fish which was the halibut served with zucchini, squash and tomato rice. The food needed a little salt and I requested hot sauce that came too late for me to use with my meal. Our server was responsive otherwise. I do not plan on returning. read more

I thought the people talking here about cold food were exaggerating or just really picky...until I bit into the bison and beef ragú and it was COLD. Like not "room temperature" cold but "just came out of refrigerator" cold. Both my plate and my husband's dish had the same issue. We sent it back, asking for it to be warmed up, and somehow mine was STILL cold. My husband's was a little warmer so we swapped plates and he ate the cold ragú so I didn't have to. Which was a little sad given that it was his birthday... Also regret getting the bread appetizer...the focaccia was stale and so hard at the edges that we couldn't eat it. The cocktails and squash blossom app we got were very good so at least there's that. But for the price I think there are more consistent places out there. read more

The good: plenty of street parking, they take reservations, everything is clean and the service is great. The artichokes are also super yummy! The bad: most of the food is just average at best, we tried the artichokes, olives, steak frites and salad. The steak was overcooked as we ordered it rare, it also was oddly cooked almost boiled instead of seared. The salad was overdressed and small for the price. The restaurant itself had odd decor, a bit refined in some places and tacky neon in others. I'd skip this place, the food isn't bad but certainly leaves no reason to return. read more

We went here for Mother's Day and they had a special menu. Three of us had chicken and waffles , 1 had French toast and one had a burger. Also, we had the egg63 salad. The egg63 salad is basically 2 eggs good in a bag until it hits 63 degrees. Then it comes with some lettuce and other veggies it's was ok. The chicken and waffles were not good. All 3 waffles were cold and hard to cut. The chicken wasn't bad. The person that had the French toast said it was good and the burger was fine. The service was a little slow but she was very friendly. For 3 of us with 3 drinks it was over $200. Definitely wasn't worth it. We may go back and try the regular menu at some point but the Mother's Day food we had was not good. read more

Friday Afternoon Lunch with My Husband Started with Fried Artichoke Hearts - very good Cup of Green Chili Salmon Corn Chowder - Excellent! Husband would have eaten straight of the bowl if I wouldnt have told him to use his spoon. Neither one of us are fish eating people (sushi doesnt count for this scenario) but the salmon was in small pieces and could barely be detected. It had a good amount of spicy heat that Husband like and that I can handle. Highly Recommend. Steak Frites - meat was cooked to perfection, not muddled with all kinds of flavors, simple but very very tender. Highly Recommend. Ravioli - there has to be a least 3 different types of mushrooms without an overwhelming mushroom flavor. Raviolis stuffed with cheese set in side the mushroomy sauce with some asparagus stalks. Very Good! Vanilla Creme Brûlée - Standard Creme Brûlée for the officianados but a little more creamery and a touch more vanilla than most. Not to disappoint if comparing. Ambiance is nice but they had lost a glass panel near the entrance which we nearly stepped thru. We got there right at opening so it was quiet. The oysters were good enough but the martini recommended with them wasn't, the ravioli were perfect, the salmon was good. I hadn't been here for many years so decided to come for lunch. Their menus is very limited for lunch and pretty expensive. I ordered the tomato soup. It was good but really salty. I had the green chili hamburger. Was ok but not cooked well done. It came with a salad that was seeped in oil. My husband had onion soup which he liked. He also had Jambon Beurre which was basically ham sandwich. I am not big on meat and would have liked a choice of pasta for lunch which they did not have. Our server was great and a good atmosphere. Ordered- risotto (veg), steak, artichoke (appetizers!, brocolini and sorbet. Risotto was missing the mushrooms and had to pay another $12 to add mushrooms. Risotto for $26 was just not worth it. Ive tried it in other cities and this was just edible. Steak was not medium rare - rather medium well. Brocolini was over a yoghurt w pistachios - I do not think it paired well. Burger($18) was very disappointing. Cold bun with a patty cooked to death to beyond well done. Burger had cheese, green chile, and onion with one slice of lettuce and mustard. Blake's Lotaburger has a much better burger for way less. Salad was simple spring mix with a simple vinegar dressing. Nothing was worth the high price point. Most fast food burgers are better. French onion soup was tasty but not hot enough. I would not recommend this place. Before covid they had the best burger in town, now, I would avoid the burger as much as you can. The food also took 20-25 minutes to come out and server was over tasked with too many tables so it was slow with infrequent checks on the table. read more

I came here because I googled 'tasting menu' and this places menu came up on Uber Eats as having a tasting menu available for a VERY reasonable price. I thought almost too reasonable. Upon entrance I noticed how cold it was, hoping it would be warmer once further into the restaurant. The hostess was on the phone so after a few minute wait I was promptly seated at my request for a booth far away from the cold windows. Rhe middle of the restaurant, the area directly in front of the kitchen window was unfortunately no warmer than the entrance. I was freezing my entire meal. When the server brought the menu, I noticed it was completely different than the one listed on Uber eats. I mentioned I was interested in the tasting menu. The server was just as confused as I was and went to check if that was something they did or could do. It wasn't. I really should have just gotten up and left but I thought I'd give their other food a shot. So I ordered their fried artichokes for $14 and double burger no onion for $24. A burger that expensive has to be good, right? The very salty fried artichokes got cold after my 3rd bite so I stopped eating that, hoping my burger would arrive quickly. Server came by and asked if I was saving room for my meal, then said 'okay I'll go put your burger in now.' And 20 cold minutes later, I finally get my burger. The fries were dark brown and extremely overcooked. The burger was... very oddly proportioned and charred. The two meat patties were teeny tiny, half the size of the bun, but extremely thick. There was some kind of grey goo slathered on the bun, and that's it. Meat, goo and bun. Lettuce and pickle probably would've helped, but I didn't see my server again for a little while. My first bite just tasted like meat char. It was really juicy despite its burnt crust exterior and after the first bite I had to switch to fork and knife because the bun disintegrated into mush with all the juice that squeezed out of the burger patties. I only took two more bites before getting frustrated and grossed out by the charred flavor and soggy bun. I ate the 11 fries that didn't get burned, and asked for my bill the next time I saw my server. I really should've just left after the menu I looked at online was entirely different than their actual menu. That's my bad. Live and learn. read more

The food is excellent; highly recommend the fried artichokes and the cream brûlée. The warm olives - most were pretty small and all had pits. The Niçoise salad was good but I would request a different protein. The seared tuna was very bland. The ambiance was well lit. The peppercorn beef tenderloin I had here was honestly a life changing meal and something I think about frequently since we left Albuquerque. We hopped in here on a Saturday evening and were seated by the bar since they didn't have any tables and we hadn't made a reservation. This ultimately was kind of fun because the bar ambiance was cool and chic. Food was awesome as I mentioned earlier. We started with the steak tartare which was really tasty. We came here for my sister's birthday. Been before and food is usually pretty great. This time was not the case. The food quality was inconsistent -- ordered two chickens and one was good, the other incredibly salty (and by no means am I a food critic, so saying it's salty meant there was a noticeable difference). The mushroom gnocchi was incredibly bland, almost more mushrooms than gnocchi too. The bill was close to 1k, and for the food having such inconsistency, what a ridiculous price to pay. Rating: On Saturday, March 14th, three friends and I had a 5:30 PM reservation at the Artichoke Café, and the experience was shockingly poor. It took 20 minutes just to receive a bottle of wine and a cocktail, another 15 minutes for appetizers, and an hour and a half after being seated before our dinners finally arrived. To make matters worse, two of us were served the wrong dish. We ordered the market fish special (sablefish) but were served salmon instead, with no explanation, no warning, and no apology. No one came to tell us they were out of sablefish or ask if we wanted to order something else--they simply substituted a completely different fish and hoped we wouldn't notice. Throughout the entire evening there was no acknowledgment of the delays, no effort to check on our table, and not even basic hospitality like offering bread while we waited. For a restaurant with this reputation and these prices, the service and communication were completely unacceptable. We will not be returning. read more

Artichoke Cafe' is an iconic eatery in Albuquerque, and deserves its icon status. Dined last night with 3 other family members. We lean toward eating vegan when possible, and if not, vegetarian. So with a little "bending" we had several delightful dishes. French onion soup: masterful rendering of this traditional dish. Asparagus with parmesan shavings, cooked perfectly. Colorful, a little crunch. French fries: of course fries are done in various shapes. Here, they are cut thin. Very flavorful and a little crunch too. Sides of mayo and ketchup with the fries. Enjoyable salad. The breads and butter: interesting and flavorful. The sorbets of mango and or raspberry were excellent. Love the ambiance here. Friendly, nice natural light in evening, subdued lighting after sun goes down. Wait staff was superb: friendly, knowledgeable and jovial. Finally: they still have a paper menu! We got a gift certificate as a Christmas present. The drinks and food were great. We got the Desert del Sol Mojito, burrata and mortadella, prime NY strip, and beef tenderloin. The drink was refreshing! The appetizer was refreshing as well, but I felt like they gave us so much burrata for two tiny pieces of bread. The NY strip was slightly over cooked. Sirloin was perfect! Although we did enjoy the dinner we had, I just feel like we didn't enjoy enough to spend another 150 dollars. Kind of a cool, business casual place located in the downtown area. Not much on the outside, but definitely well thought out interior. We started with the Duck Rillettes appetizers. Then ordered the Bone in Pork Chop and the Half Chicken for an entree. The pork chop was tender & delicious. Likewise the chicken was delicious and the aji amarillo definitely added to the flavor. We topped it off with the peach crisp ala mode and enjoyed a freshly baked serving ( this one's made to order) over all an excellent meal and great waitstaff. I will add that this is not food served in a hurry. We were there about 90 mins, no hurry, no rush. A place For great food and good conversation. read more
