This review is for the Canoga Park store. I own a home staging company and regularly donate furniture to the Council on Fairfax in Los Angeles. Today, I sent my movers to donate 22 pieces of furniture to the Canoga Park store as it's closer to our warehouse in Van Nuys. The manager of the store (Latin female) looked at some of the first pieces that they pulled off the truck and said that they weren't up to their quality standards. One piece was a shabby chic desk (which is supposed to be distressed) and the other was an upholstered chair and ottoman in green velvet. The mover stressed to the manager that she really needed to look at all of the pieces and she would see that they were all nice quality. She simply said "Don't bother taking anything more off of the truck as this isn't for us." So, I'm curious if corporate does anything to educate their managers and employees to recognize things that will bring revenue into their stores. How can one store welcome me when I'm pulling up and the other refuse to even look after only seeing a couple of pieces? I'm truly baffled. So, not only did my good deed get shot down, I still had to pay my movers their fee for trying to make the drop-off. No good deed goes unpunished . . . For the record, I know the pieces I was trying to donate were worthy for the store -- I'm very aware when something should be thrown away or advertised for free. These pieces did not fall into either of those categories. Anyone have any suggestions for a good charity that would welcome nice donations? I'm personally not a fan of Salvation Army or Goodwill as I don't care for their business practices. read more

This one star is only for the store itself and how nicely it was organized. That was about it. But regarding the folks working there? I may have picked the wrong day or the wrong time or shift. It certainly ticked me off and this turned out to be my first and last visit. Yes, I know it is a thrift store and not Macy's or Gelson's. But I deeply believe no matter where you work. Being friendly to customers should not depend on where you fricken work. I worked in retail myself. greeting a customer friendly. Putting on a smile. Show some basic respect. Or even thanking them will not bloody kill you. So, my spouse and I shopped nearby and I noticed this thrift store and decided to stop there. I love thrift stores. My spouse was still in the car doing something therefore I went in there myself. I am always a very friendly and happy customer and ALWAYS make sure to greet the employees I see. Even those who seem to be normally totally ignored. ( I can tell by their surprised look when I say hello. Like I am some sort of Martian). :). I deeply believe in treating people kindly. I have seen way too many nasty customers at the time I worked in retail during COVID. Nevertheless. This does NOT mean that we customers are all nasty and unkind! We also like to be treated with respect and some minimum of professionalism. At least. No matter what kind of business it is. So, when I walked in I noticed a couple of employees wearing some sort of aprons. As always, I greeted them friendly and walked on. I barely heard any response. But didn't think too much of it. Anyway. My spouse joined me and I meanwhile found a nice shirt. We looked around a bit more. Then it was time for us to go. We went to the front desk where you pay. First, there was no one there. I was about to ring that bell they had available there to call someone when one of a sudden some young woman with short hair showed up. No hello, no nothing. I said hello and told her I would like to have this and showed her the shirt. My goodness, I wish I could have taken a photo of her unhappy and cranky face. Just plain unfriendly. She said more or less nothing to me. I was the only customer there at that desk. She told me the price and I decided to give her cash. When she gave me my change back. No receipt. Nothing. Of course, no thank you or anything. This word is something of the past. I am aware of this. Especially with this one. I knew that right away. I was already annoyed by her unfriendly and rude demeanor. She shoved my shirt into a plastic bag like a piece of rag and wanted to turn around when I asked her if I could have my receipt, please. If looks could kill I would have been dead at that moment. She printed it and handed it over while she turned her head and walked away. This kid needs some classes either in customer service or how to function in public with other human beings. read more

This place used to be amazing, now because it's a name brand they charge 3x as much. Even if the item is from 15 years ago. It's like no one who works here recognizes the fact that I could go to true religion and buy pants from 2003 for less money than they are selling it. And seriously they think Zara is some kind of god here...once again styles from years ago THAT ARE USED are twenty dollars. Remember people all of their items have been donated and the more money I spend the more it helps people!!! But I cannot justify buying a Free People sweater from 2010 for 15 dollars. Macy sales are cheaper. The person who does the prices? You need to go actually shopping for nice clothes and you'll see. I used to spend a ton of money here. Now I just feel like they are hoarders never trying to move any product out of the store. Two small matching lamps...USED. 30 dollars. Really? Come on. read more

One of the best in the area for electronics, clothing and CDs. Clean and well organized. Easy access to an AC outlet to check if items have a pulse. There's another smaller, more downscale Thrift shop right across the parking lot. Also OK as far as it goes. Cheaper for sure read more

Although it's a thrift store with lots of nick nacks and decent clothes, it kinda sucks that they don't have fitting rooms to try some of the clothes on. I bought a dress and thought it would fit and was too big and I tried bringing it back and getting store credit or swapping it out and they denied me either. I get it's a thrift store and all sales are final but they should have a policy for when something like this happens. read more

The workers here are amazing! They are always so friendly and the shop is kept immaculate. Prices are fair and the selection is not as vast as some stores but you can I'll definitely be able to buy some great items. I agree with others that some of their prices are overpriced so you might as well buy new not preowned. They sell baby clothes for $3 each- you can buy a onesie set of 4-5 onesies for $10 new. They should be priced at $1-2 max. If its a nicer piece like a dress then you can charge $3 but not $3 for a used onesie. They also charge 10cents for bags and tax. They do have more variety and selection compared to the thrift store around the corner. read more

This thrift store thinks it's some kind of boutique. The prices are higher then Goodwill, and if you happen to find something good then be prepared to pay!! I found the cutest Target dress and it was 15 bucks! Target on clearance isn't even that much. I live so close and will NEVER enter this store again, it's a joke! read more

I'm a big vintage lover and collector and love coming here for vintage goodies. I love coming here because the staff is always so nice and welcoming. Specifically Adriana as she is so welcoming, helpful and just a good face for this company. She's always taking care of me and helping me find items in the store or help me put together an outfit. Just shows she really cares about her customers and customer service. Edwin and Eddis are always kind and helpful as well. Love this location and the treasures I find!! read more

I've been donating and occasionally shopping here for years. I'm not sure what happened but my last 3 experiences were concerning. They give itemized receipts for donation and in the past were always accurate. I always write my name on the bags and carefully place them together. They ask that you write the number of bags on the receipt. The last 3 times I donated the receipt did not reflect my items correctly. In one instance I had carefully placed some costume jewelry in a bag inside a larger one. No mention of the jewelry on my receipt at all! Makes me think some folks working there are picking for themselves! Some other "nicer" items were also left out. I'm always careful to donate items in good condition--nothing is dinged, chipped, torn, stained etc. I like to donate and support The National Council of Jewish Women. It's a worthwhile organization that does good work. Unfortunately some of the workers at this particular thrift store seem to be taking advantage of the situation either to benefit themselves or because they just can't be bothered to be accurate. I contacted the manager/assistant manager after the last experience and she was was very nice. She didn't sound surprised though and promised to improve conditions. Was excited to check it out on my travels back from Oxnard but it didn't measure up. It's a nice size with a nice selection but the prices were double that of most thrift stores. If it had an amazing vintage selection that might have been more tolerable - but it wasn't anything special. Also parking is a pain - no parking for the thrift except metered parking even though there is a big lot Behind the thrift. To be a 5? Would really need to cut prices in half! read more

They have a great Halloween selection! They have these cool scary mask that light up LED, embezzled bedazzled hats and skull faces! I believe they also have mask if you're going to a masquerade party. They had a glass section of some higher and donations I believe I saw a pair of Prada sandals. The women's shoe selection is excellent, they also had scarves and some household items but not many. Very small kids section and a few men but mostly women stuff. I also enjoyed going through their jewelry cases which I was able to find clip on earrings. No real gold or silver it's all play jewelry but a great selection read more

You can find a really nice items here, but I think that everything is overpriced. Dress $7 &up ??? I can buy cheaper on EBay. A Pier1 vase for $15 that originally was $25. Only $10 discount? It's not a good bargain, well at least not for me. Otherwise, I like going here just to find something unusual and vintage. read more

I don't know who's running this place (actually it's kind of obvious) but they have no knowledge of the current brands, trendy pieces or any quality brands. Not that this is some sort of pre-requisite for a thrift store however their pricing is ridiculous. The clothing pieces that they place on the designer rack are trash. The decent ones are completely overpriced. They're currently running a 50% off sale however it's because everything is already overpriced they can't sell it. This is one of the lower quality stores in the chain compared to the ones in the city, for example. What I witnessed today is a clear example of why you don't see the good stuff actually put on the floor. I saw several people sifting through a truck full of new arrivals that must've come from their central site. A couple was rummaging through the bags and boxes and putting things to the side. When I picked up one of the bags the guy said in broken English oh that's mine. How is that possible if these pieces hadn't even been priced or placed on the floor for sale? I wish I could say something redeeming about the store and give it more than one star but I'm really truly at a loss for words. Enter at your own risk! read more

So i just went in to the thrift. i was walking out and saw something that was already tagged but it was behind the plastic in the room where they put new clothes to come out. I asked about it someone showed me. I see it's tagged for $3. They tell me the manager has to look at it i ask when. they tell me an hour from the time it was. i wanted it. it was a random piece of clothing but very cool to me. I come back and ask if the manger can grab it so i can check out. The manager avoids me completely then tells me she put it out. Which isn't true because i was only gone an hour and she supposedly showed up for work at 12. It couldn't and wouldn't be gone that fast as it was a local store shirt and very random. They wouldn't help me or talk to me. i come here everyday and spend money for years here. They told me to come back and i wasted my time and they wouldn't even talk to me. They all acted shady like they didn't know what i was talking about. Not cool. read more

The NCJWLA tends to be a little more expensive than other thrift stores, but the quality of the items is normally higher. There are unique "finds" that can be discovered in this store. The key is to often return on a regular and consistent basis. The book, CD and DVD section is massive, and they have framed prints and paintings (some of them numbered and signed) displayed on the wall for sale. The men's clothing are of name brand, and many of the labels I ran across were from high-end stores. Always is a pleasure for me to come here. read more

I've been donating to and buying from this thrift store for a few years now - staff used to be friendly, would greet their regulars, and help you put stuff in your car and help take out your donations. The last few times I've tried to come here, it hasn't been the case. I've tried donating stuff here on a weekend before noon and 3pm and the last few times, they've been too full to accept anything else. While I'm already putting my bags out a woman with dark hair comes out and grumbles: I can't drop anything off, they're full, and to go somewhere else. Very rude in her demeanor and she stands out there waiting until I leave. I probably won't be back since this is becoming a regular experience. There is a Goodwill drop off center on Oxnard and Canoga with kind staff and very quick service if you're looking to donate items. As for the thrift store itself, there is no changing room to try on clothes, so ladies usually wear leggings or tank tops and are trying things on in the middle of the store. I think you can return things within a small timeframe if you go home and they don't fit. I also feel like I've seen people bargain for some of the larger furniture items. I came with a truck load of leather coats, costume jewelry, levis jeans and boxes of name brand womens clothing, some nice mens Vince shoes and new Nike sneakers. When I got there at 330 Pm Dec 29 the said go away we are full come back tomorrow......so I did I came back same time a day later and he said the same thing...(some Mexican guy with black glasses). I told him I had good stuff and was heading to the airport and did not have time to unload it back at home and he became aggressive and said look I told you we are full...even though he said come back again the other day. I am so glad he was a dick since I stopped off at a used clothing store in Santa Monica and sold every box for $1300....and that was a steal. Bebe leather coats, Theory jackets, Vince shoes and jackets ,sweaters...really nice stuff but did not fit me. Jewish council could have sold this stuff for 5k but he had to be an ass about it. They don't even give you an appraisal as they used to...now I just sell my good clothing I find in storage units...and throw out the rest. You are not worth my time. Regarding Carla D. Review that was posted on 6/8/2019. I had no interaction with this person this was the 1st time that she had come into the store I had never seen her before or after this day. However the interaction was with her friend. I did go up to them. Her friend would come into the store with different people. Everyone that would get caught stealing for the 1st time, I would let them know if you need help please ask me we did have programs in place to help and if I had to pay for my own pocket I would. skin color or where you are from is not what I see. I see a person as a person and their actions. There was never no racist comment from my side nor from their side. For this person to bring up racism is disgusting. It was never about racism it was about stealing. To add racism in to this just to cause harm is wrong. Her friend came back to try antagonize me to come out and fight with her. We lost or home this organization helped us by giving a 300 credit voucher. We were so upset it took us time to come around. When we finally did the Employees at this location were a true blessing. The Canoga Park Jewish Thrift Council Shop is the best experience one can hope for. Constant refreshing and changing product make for a great discovery every time I visit. The manager, Steve, is outgoing and super friendly, as are all of the associate managers and staff. Everyone is so personable, hardworking and truly goes out of their way to please customers, as well as donors. The shoppe is clean, the merchandise, furniture and clothing is clean and well displayed. The pricing is extremely fair, almost some kind of deal or sale very often and senior discounts. The shoppe is open daily, the wonderful staff will help with donations from your vehicle or help with purchases as required. I couldn't recommend a better place to go on a "hunt"... read more

The clothes are so expensive for me i wanted to cry! :-(( I came here today and I noticed it's a bit different than what i remembered last time. Some of the clothes are ridiculously expensive for a thrift store items. You could easily found cheaper and better stuff at ebay. They have some high-end brands and they are displayed together as "Designers" items; like Theory (blouse is priced $25), I spotted a worn-looking Marc Jacob shirt for $25, vintage Escada sweater for $65, jacket for $100 . But you will also find stuff like Jones New York, Chicos, Ann Taylor, Banana Republic categorized in designer section they are priced $20 and up. I spotted vintage St. John sweater with holes for $65. C'mon! They also have another section for regular brands and they are priced for $6. Go to Goodwill which is located behind this store for much better deal. read more

This thrift store made me sad. It was insanely overpriced. Half the tops I picked up with $20 or more and the rather used/ugly jackets were averaging between $40 and $60 from what I saw. I also got chased around by an 'in-use' vacuum cleaner and kept having to move along to get out of hazard zone so as not to lose a toe. I could take that $20 and go to the mall and get a new shirt. read more
