We were excited to try this place after having it recommended to us by some locals. Both the food and service were poor. We started with the crab dip, which was tasty, and our salads were delicious (the wedge salad was HUGE!). The problems were with the entrees. We ordered stuffed shrimp, a shrimp po' boy and a bruschetta pizza. The stuffed shrimp were really tough/rubbery. They came with rice and green beans; the rice was crunchy: not fully cooked. The shrimp po' boy only had FOUR shrimp on it between both halves, and the bread was stale. The bruschetta pizza is supposed to have fresh basil and fresh garlic on it, in addition to the tomatoes, but neither basil or garlic could be seen or tasted (the manager told us later that it was there, we just couldn't see it...). The dough was pasty and bland. It was crazy -- all of our orders were off. I'm not sure what was going on in the kitchen, but it was a rough night. We brought the concerns to the attention of our server, who sent the manager over. We told him that there were some issues with our meals. After explaining them to him, he told us there was nothing he could do about the shrimp because they just get them from the sea, and if they come tough, they're just tough. Whaaaaat?!? (No -- they were tough because they were overcooked; shrimp aren't just inherently tough from the sea). Then he asked US what he's supposed to do about the other issues? We asked him what he could do, since HE was the manager, not us... it was just very odd and antagonistic. We rarely have issues when eating out. Great experience last night! First of all, the service was perfect. An acoustic guitarist was singing, we enjoyed a nice medley of songs and he was talented. We shared several items which were all amazing! The "small plate" of Fish Tacos were so delicious! The platter had 3 regular sized soft tacos with fresh seared tuna, veges, and a homemade sauce with a little kick. Next, Shaved Brussels Sprouts with bacon, OMG! Seriously, in NYC, these items would be found in a high end restaurant with a high price to go with it! The Crab Dip and chips did not disappoint, a lot of crab in it. When we came in we were told it was an hour wait. We then received a phone call an hour later that our table was ready, but we would have to wait an hour for food. Although hesitant, we decided to stay. Our waiter Ashley was phenomenal, and very knowledgeable and attentive. However, the food was awful and extremely overpriced. It took over 45 minutes for the appetizers to arrive, and despite the price, they were very small portions and soggy. It took about another hour before we got our main courses, but we were made aware of this before sitting. The lemon chicken was so tough that the knife would not cut through it. The seafood Diablo smelt horribly of bad fish, and was mushy and flavorless. The other food such as the flounder and burgers were of a mushy texture and flavorless. We are in town for vacation and had a family dinner here, not sure I would recommend it. Our server was very nice but very slow. It took awhile for drinks & I ordered an appetizer that came out with my meal (what's the point of that) . I had the ahi plate and it was HORRIBLE! I didn't think it could be worse. the only thing worse than not getting waited on at the cove is placing an order and waiting 45 minutes for appetizers. Our food finally came and my son's burger was like hockey puck. The waiter could not have been more apologetic, but he should not have to. The mussels white were excellent, but when I asked for bread, they had run out. Which was odd because our friends that are there after us were placated with free shrimp and bread while they waited for their food. Strange. My husband and I ate at The Cove while visiting New Jersey last week. We ate in the restaurant, not the bar area. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was fabulous. The pork melted in my mouth. Our food arrived 1:40 after being seated, 1:20 after ordering. Waitress prolifically apologetic asking what else she could do multiple times, wanted to ask for a bed or my time back. Food arrived and sauce on crab cakes was broken since it probably sat way too long in the kitchen. Took our 2 drinks off our tab, but it was not worth my 2 hours and cranky hangry kids. Ok so unfortunately I hate to do this because the food improved but I'm forced to because of what happened. My husband got "the cove steamers" which states it's 12 steamed clams on the menu. He got 9 and told our bartender and she said I think it goes by weight. My husband shows her the menu that clearly says 12. She goes to the kitchen to tell them and comes back out and goes ok so they said it's because they are bigger and my husband shows her they are clearly not bigger and little necks. The bartender said well I can go ask them for the three your missing but said it sarcastically and seemed annoyed. My husband said no it's fine I'm just trying to make a point they are little. Keep in mind we spent well over 100 plus dollars on apps and alcohol and gave the bartender a 35$ tip. Would it kill them to just apologize and make it right instead of coming up with a lame excuse to save a few bucks? I doubt we will go back again to eat. We will just stick to the bar for drinks. Never again. I get that things are tough after covid but if you can't spare the three extra clams why bother keeping it on the menu. read more

I was really glad to see that someone saved this building after the hurricane! We were skeptical based on reviews and word on the street. We went in on a Saturday night with a reservation for a group of 5. We were about 5 mins "early" and was told it would be another 5 mins, but we wanted to go to the bar first anyway. They said no problem and someone would come get us when our table was ready The bar is very big and also nice. Bartender was great and the little olives they serve were a nice treat! We were there about 15 mins...no one came to get us. Once we notified the hostess station they seated us right away. The menu isn't huge, but I prefer it that way - to me that lends itself to the idea that not a lot is frozen and hopefully fresh. We got the daily special salads which were a decent size and everyone was pleased. 2 of our diners got the cod and cleaned their plates. The cod was flaky and a nice size piece. I had the 'cove' style mussels. It was hefty serving and I wasn't served a single closed one. It did come with crostini - could have used 4 instead of just 2. They were definitely fresh, but the broth was a tad watery Clam Chowder had a cute presentation and was a big bowl, but it had about 4 open clams in it and maybe 3 potatoes. It had great flavor, just a little more would have been nice. Stuffed Shrimp - I thought they were a nice size, but the stuffing did seem like a lot of breading. It came with a lot of salad. Burger - lots of fries, perfectly cooked, but you could totally tell it was a frozen patty. We had to ask for ketchup halfway through. Overall - we were happy and would return. A manager stopped by everyone's table asking if everything was ok. There is a problem with gnats/fruit flies. I'm not sure what is going on there, but they were annoying. The prices are a little high for what you get, mainly related to the entrees. Hopefully with a few tweeks they will get some more consistent, positive reviews. read more

Also the next 2 groups looking to eat there we're also turned away! I guess they don't need the business! Now when I drive by the parking lot is empty. So disappointed!! We really wanted to support the local restaurants in Brigantine and the Cove used to be a favorite a year ago but this past year it has gone completely downhill. Went tonight to try and give it another chance. Empty on a Friday night. Sat at the bar and no one approached us. The room smelled of stale beer and looked dirty. As we sat waiting for someone to acknowledge us, we saw the bartender pouring the remains of several partially empty bottles of wine into another bottle of different wine. I guess that explains why the past several times we've been there the wine we ordered and know well tasted "off". So sad that this will be yet another Brigantine restaurant that ends up closing it's doors. Get it together! It could be a great restaurant! read more

I was really optimistic about this place but sadly we were let down. The service was fine and friendly but that's about where it stops. The main restaurant was humid and smelled stale. The food was the worst I've had on the island. Tonight I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was like eating a leather jacket. The menu said it came with coleslaw on top but it was just shredded cabbage. My wife had a burger and it was okay, but it's pretty challenging to mess up a burger. The bar area seems hopping and maybe the apps are good but unless they get a new chef I won't be returning for food anytime soon. I want to give it one star, but it really deserves a second. It wasn't just about the food. So there were five us. The food came out together which is what we wanted, kids and adults, but the waitress forgot to order my salad with shrimp. She came back a while later and asked how everything was, I mentioned my salad, she seemed surprised, as in, you ordered a salad? So she said they were working on it and it would be right there. 15 minutes later I cancelled the salad since everyone was done. They gave it to me in a box. $16 Caesar salad that had a tiny bit of lettuce, a bland dressing, and 3 shrimp that were boring, not really grilled or sautéed. Just boring. Fairly fresh though. My wife had a burger, the bacon was burned The edamame, it was just weird. Not worth eating, but I ate it since my salad was lost in the ether. Myriads hickey fingers and grilled cheese were ok. All in all a mediocre experience in a mediocre atmosphere with really subpar service. There has to be more to brigantine than this place. read more

We made reservations for 6:30,were seated and got drinks,placed our order,told the waitress we had a child with peanut allergies and waited for a response. 50 minutes later we were STILL waiting for our appetizers and an answer to our question to the peanut allergy (which we NEVER got). We kept getting the old "kitchens under staffed and your food will be out in 2 minutes". Listen-I get it,COVID sucks and is putting a beating on places looking for quality workers but THE LEAST YOU COULD DO IS KEEP US INFORMED IF YOUR RUNNING BEHIND,it's not that hard to do. Our waitress looked like a deer in headlights every time she decided to come around when we asked her the status of our food. When our food did finally come out ALL our dishes were Luke warm at best (4 adults and 2 children). You think it was sitting for a while??? The manager came over after we asked our waitress to see her and apologized for the wait. Again- I get it-being short staffed sucks but it gets to a point where that excuse just doesn't cut it. Oh yea,we also watched another couple walk out after waiting forever just to place their order. I'll say this,when we walked out the people at the bar seemed to have no problem whatsoever getting their food on time. It really sucks to go out hoping to have a great time and a good meal and end up with garbage service and mediocre food and a shitty $50 off the bill. The cove is a beautiful restaurant. The bar area is spacious and the drink menu is very extensive. The food is out of this world, the avocado fries are a must and the mussels are fantastic. The hangover burger is a must to check off your list. The staff was super friendly and helpful, they even allowed us to move our seat to a booth instead of a table with no problems. It's like hanging out in a dark liquor store with a bunch of dark wood and brushed metal. Very loud, not cozy at all, completely lacking of character, and despite the name does not feel beachy at all. Bartender was friendly but had no recommendations on food other than limiting the already limited menu for us. It was just after 10pm on a Saturday night and menu is limited to a few items, none of which are appealing to a simple pallet. Wings were terrible, flatbread undercooked and covered in greens to make up for it? Wake up. Your menu is too pricey and fancy for a liquor store, and people who come to Brigantine. Food was absolutely awful, would've rather eaten Michael Jordan's deep fried underwear. We ordered a pizza with long hots and no onions but it came out with onions and no long hots. THEN once we sent the pizza back with 2 pieces eaten out of it the staff stood behind the bar eating my pizza. How gross!? Waitress never came to check on us, our drinks were empty but yet was on her phone behind the bar. Also order the fried calamari which was supposed to have fried banana peppers in it, which it didn't. When we told our waitress she brought us over pickled jalapeños... like really?
