    "Small" Italian grinder
    Dan R.

"Enjoy every sandwich" (Warren Zevon) For how many reasons did I really enjoy my Italian Grinder in a "Half" size from the Sfizio Italian Kitchen? Let me count the ways. First of all was the value -that smaller size ran $9.99 in exchange for a huge sandwich. Half of it easily satisfied my lunch appetite for around $5, and hell- you'd be hard pressed to say the same after a trip to the Golden Arches. Second of all - the sandwich was freaking excellent! Super soft and fresh toasted Italian bread, a very generous piling on of ham and salami and provolone (thank God there was none of the super salty pepperoni that only does a good job of ruining these Italian subs), and a nice blanket of fresh shredded lettuce, tomato, onions, hot peppers, oil and vinegar. Third of all were the servers at the store. They were super nice and polite and friendly. Fourth of all was the store itself with bakery treats, showcase goodies and pizza slices to check out while your food is prepared. I love these neighborhood Italian delis, and Sfizio just jumped into the top tier of my list.

I visited Sfizio Italian Kitchen for lunch takeout this week. I ordered a 1/2 Italian Cold Cut Combo and a slice of pepperoni pizza by phone. It was ready when I arrived ten minutes later. The 1/2 Cold Cut Combo was huge. I ate 1/2 and saved 1/2 for the next day. It had high quality Italian deli meats that I believe were salami, mortadella, ham and capicola. The bread tasted like great Italian Bakery bread. It had firm outer texture with sesame seeds, and a softer inside. The topping choices were not as expansive as I like. I settled on provolone, lettuce, tomato, red roasted peppers, oil and vinegar. The oil and vinegar did not provide as much zing as I like. Otherwise, these toppings were good. The pizza was decent. The crust was a bit doughy and the large circumference pepperoni generated a bit too much grease for my taste. Four Stars for a workday lunch takeout option. They also have seating there. The atmosphere is fine, but not a draw.

Great unassuming little spot. Had a nice chicken cutlet panini and the sauce was great. Good Italian music.

Ambience doesnt count, its still a takeout place. But the rest of that review stated that other than an 'oops' on the pizza toppings, everything else was...ok. This time? Total flop. Tried some different stuff this time. The philly cheesesteak grinder was the most edible, but dry, with stuff on one half, but only partially on the other half. The roll was the best part, something I mentioned in my previous review. The cheese ravioli? Guess we would call that a 'wtf'. The frozen ravioli I make myself ,with a jar of Francesco Rinalde in a pinch, embarrasses this. Isn't there supposed to be cheese in cheese ravioli? These things were strangely missing the ricotta. Also grabbed a dry eggplant florentine with a nice bland sauce. I don't recall the sauce here being... underwhelming, but this time... yah...underwhelming works. The Italian grandma with the big wooden spoon has left the building. Prices are still low in comparison to say, Vito's down the road, but keeping your prices down by buying cheap ingredients isn't the way to do it. Perhaps the owners should take any money they are saving on ravioli's and buy a salt and pepper shaker to start, might help. Am I presuming the almost five stars is based on the Yelp reviews of yore? I gave em a four last time!! Try again folks.

We ordered the triple appetizer, and the kitchen gave us chicken tenders instead of the arancini that we ordered, so they gave it to us on the house. The servers were attentive and kind, and quick to fix our order. - Arancini, (4.25/5): I've never cared for Arancini but this changed my mind- the ball was perfectly cwisp and fried, with a not toooo mushy cheesy center - Calamari, (4.5/5): so good! I love lemon on mine, and it came with this addictive sour spicy mayo dip- top notch sauce - Meatballs, (4/5): tasted pretty standard- not too dry and very beefy with acidic tomato to cut through the meat - Chicken tenders, (4.5/5): surprisingly very good - very juicy with crackly batter and had a great dipping sauce - Small Calabrese Apizza, (5/5): wow! this pizza is sooo light and airy. I am not a big crust person, but I ate the whole slice. the dough is so chewy, the pizza itself was flavorful and light. the waiter recommended us to get a small since we got appetizers... but tbh the 2 of us could've tackled a bigger pie as certified big backs Very happy to have tried Sally's!

I wanted to give them a second chance. Sometimes businesses have bad days and I don't like to judge based off of one experience unless it's super bad. Well, this time was worse. Ordered the chopped salad. All you could taste was dressing and it was soggy and swimming. Barely any meat. Then the pizza came. One half had pepperoni and hot honey and the other had meatball and ricotta. The pepperoni side was literally disgusting. Like the salad, it was completely drenched in hot honey and sickly sweet. It was pooling on my plate. You couldn't taste the sauce, cheese, and toppings. Speaking of the sauce, there was little to none, had no flavor, and it was canned. I know canned sauce when I taste it. This was especially shocking because Sally's is known for their sauce. I'm very disappointed because I usually love the sauce at Sally's l, but this wasn't it. And then there's another problem: the pizza came out burnt and cold. New Haven style is slightly charred, not BURNT. It wasn't just the crust; it was also the undercarriage. See the photos I attached. It also took 50 minutes from the time our order was placed to get our one pizza when the restaurant wasn't even at half occupancy. Service was terrible!! We weren't even offered red pepper or parm with our pizza and weren't asked if we wanted dessert. Not like we wanted to stay after that mess, but it would've been nice to be asked. Our server was never near our table and it took a long time to get the things we wanted. We felt completely ignored all night. I feel like this is totally understandable on a busy night, but the place wasn't packed by any means and there were only a few tables occupied. We had to wait an extra 20 minutes after we finished our pizza before our server came around again and just handed us the check and walked away without a word. Not coming back.

I think collectively my office has had their entire menu. From sandwiches, to salads, to pizzas, to lasagna and more. Every single meal has always been super fresh, where all you can hear is "mmmmmMmmmms..." My lunch was served on a freshly baked Italian hoagie roll, filled with roasted peppers, ham, tomatoes, mixed greens, capicola and provolone cheese. In addition to each and every single ingredient being super fresh, this was also a very large portion. I could have easily shared the other half with someone else, had it on another day or ate it right after the first portion... which one did I do? The restaurant it's self is little and very cute, it was full at 12:00 o'clock today.
