I am so bummed. Full disclosure: I ordered delivery so it's possible this is a consequence of that but my food got to me within a half hour of ordering so I think it was just poorly prepared. I ordered a make-your-own poke bowl. There was a bone in the salmon, the tomatoes were mushy and flavorless, the crab salad wasn't cold. I also ordered a miso soup, which was lukewarm. I hope to try The Cove again in person and maybe that will be a better experience but this was so disappointing, especially after paying extra for delivery. read more

Friends of ours own this place and we went to their soft opening where everything on the menu was only $.50! The food is pretty dang good. I have not tried the Banh Mi sandwiches yet but the Poke Bowls are yummmy! I got the House Style Ahi Tuna Bowl. All sorts of flavor explosions in every bite. They asked if I wanted the salmon spicy and I said yes so they dressed the salmon with some spice and i'd highly recommend it! It had just the right amount of hint of spice on the salmon. POKE BOWLS~! I saw The Cove when it wasn't even opened yet and I was so excited to see that there was a restaurant close to campus (UMN) and in MN that served poke bowls!! (Yasss) You can create your own poke bowl, so that's what I did. (It's about $12) You get a sheet of paper and you can check what ingredients you want in it. You can choose the Spice Level, Base Level (Rice, Salad, Chips), Side (only 3 sides), Protein, Sauce, Mix-ins and Top It Off. Sides are pineapple, corn, edamame, cucumber salad, crab salad, and seaweed salad. Overall, I think that it was good. On a scale from 1-10 I would give it a good 8. I've definitely had better poke bowls, and felt like it needed more flavor. I would still recommend The Cove to anyone who wants to get a poke bowl fix! read more

I ordered the salmon sushirrito and the salmon poke bowl. I was impressed with the sushirrito, it was very filling and trumps any other sushi burrito I have had in the Twin Cities. The salmon poke bowl was okay. I would have liked it if it came with more rice. I also questioned if the tradition short grain sushi rice was used in the poke bowl, as it tasted more like jasmine rice. I also could not taste any rice vinegar in the rice. For Minneapolis, this is as good as poke gets! I've had poke out here in California as well as in Hawaii, and The Cove did not disappoint. I would say that the style of the poke bowl here is more comparable to what you'd get in Hawaii - fish mixed with the sauce (though not premixed as I've had in Hawaii and is my preference since it allows the fish more time to soak in the flavors) atop a scoop of rice and the sides actually "ON THE SIDE" - not all mixed together like the poke bowls I've had here in CA. This allows you to taste the different flavors of each item separately, or together if you prefer, which all complement each other very well. I had the tuna with spicy mayo, which was superb! Would love to come back when I'm in MN again to try the house special sauce. The only thing I'd say is missing is the furikake! At first I was hesitant about trying this place because of all the unnecessary extras in the poke bowls (I prefer mines simple so I can still taste the fish) but I obviously couldn't resist. Ordering was a bit confusing because there wasn't really any direction of where the line starts. When you walk in the door, you want to go to the right to start the ordering process. I don't think they have an, "order here," "pay here," sign or maybe I missed it but it wasn't too hard to figure it out. I ordered the Ahi Tuna Poke Bowl with spicy mayo. Luckily they allowed me to choose what I wanted in my bowl so that was a plus. I added cilantro, ginger, seaweed salad, jalapeno, crab meat, sesame seeds, and additional hot sauce. The rice for the poke bowI tasted more like normal jasmine rice than "sushi" rice. I felt like the meal was just like any other food and not particularly, poke. I tried the bowl as is and then I tried it with everything mixed. It just didn't satisfy me. I also ordered the pork belly banh mi with extra jalapeño. They make it fresh from the back so it comes warm. It looked and smelled really good. The first bite tasted like garlic bread and so did the second and third. I dont know if their bread was brushed or made with garlic butter or plain butter but that's all I could taste. The pork belly was good when it was still fresh. For banh mi, I prefer the jalapenos cut the long way instead of round because its easier to eat and won't fall out. I know, I'm so picky. I do like garlic bread though so the banh mi wasn't horrible, it was edible but not something I would crave. I can see that they really take criticism well and use it to improve. There's definitely been some changes from the first reviews written and it's really great to see they are trying to find a balance that works well for them and the customers. My hubs and I have been on a pretty decent poke kick and I was excited to find a place in MPLS during our trip there. While I did enjoy the food, I think that the service could be more efficient which I will explain. So when we ordered, the employee keyed everything into the system, then made the food, but would ask me what I wanted again. I was basically placing my order twice. It might be a lot faster if they just added everything as I'm telling them the ingredients I like. I think there was like a 3 side limit so it could be easier to just upcharge for anything beyond that I guess (I'd also say the same for the avocado they added - would consider that a premium add on instead of a free ingredient). That's just me being a picky customer who likes to be efficient with his time. The restaurant wasn't packed when we went, so there was not particular rush this time. The workers were super nice and I know they were just trying to do a good job. I think this place opened up recently so I'm sure they are working it all out. That aside, the food was good. I would've liked to been able to add both proteins, or see more proteins in the future. But it was definitely nice to have a healthier option like poke. read more

Wow so unique! I have been wanting to try a poke bowl for some time now and finally had a chance to stop in to The Cove for one. Upon entering, we received a warm greeting by an employee and they explained the ordering process to us. I tried a poke bowl with salmon and shrimp and added a variety of toppings. Because it was my first bowl, I wasn't really sure what to expect but I was very pleased! I received a generous portion of rice, protein, and vegetables. I was a little confused when I received my meal because I thought the "sides" would literally be served on the side of my entree but they were placed in my bowl with the rice and protein. This wasn't a very big deal though. Overall, I had a good experience here and would recommend it if you're in the mood for some asian fusion cuisine. read more

I found out about the Cove from a yelp elite event. The event was awesome so if course I couldn't wait to return! If I was rating on food alone this would be 5 stars. Unfortunately I think the staff was off their A game tonight. Although the place wasn't busy it took longer than half hour for food to be ready. Perhaps that's standard but during the event the bowels were made super quick. We asked for no jalapeños on the pork buns, and the box said no jalapeños, but alas there were jalapeños. As others have commented the price is a bit high which is fine if the food and service both are stellar. The whole thing is pretty chipotle'd out, in that you pick your own toppings--incidentally, when did we switch up "subway'ed" for "chipotle'd"?--and customize your bowl as you see fit. Within reason. The quality of the fish in the poke bowls seems really great, and they don't skimp on the toppings. Sometimes I think they could put a little more fish in the bowls considering the price. I love coming here, but can't make it a habit because of the price. Service can be a bit slow sometimes, but I think it's worth the wait. Today, I ordered from them via Ubereats, and I did have a little issue with that. In the store, you can choose your spice level from 0-4, and I always choose 0, but the ubereats app only lets you choose between mild, medium, and hot. Weekday parking at night kind of sucks but its definitely worth it. Located right next the USPS postal office and right across of Target express. They have cute clipboards where you can circle your food options it lets you know the pricing, if anything is extra cost. Aside from poke they had other options like ricebowls, banh mi, pork belly poutine, sushiritos, even spam masubi. The Pork Belly Poutine is to die for literally my favorite. My date ordered the sushirito and it was amazing. They have alot of delivery options too!
