Hotel restaurants are iffy, and generally want to be fancy but the food just doesn't live up to the hopes. This was classy, and handy, and the food and service were great. We came at 6 on a Friday, and there were several parties but it wasn't busy. Only one server it seemed, and she was busy but kept up on things, with some help from the manager and other staff. Nice to see management jumping in and actually helping. They had a special St. Patrick's Day menu for the weekend, and everything on there looked good. Sweetie went with fish and chips, and they were pretty good. A little overcooked maybe, at least the batter, but the fish was tender and it was all tasty. K had cheese pizza, and fries. Decent kids menu, and decent food. A coloring menu and crayons are always nice. I had the corned beef and colcannon, and it was excellent. Loads of meat, with a sweet and savory sauce. Lots of perfect colcannon, with potatoes/parsnips/cabbage/leeks. Yum. They had a mix-up and started that late, so they gave us a free dessert. They also all looked good, and we went with the cherry bread pudding, which was excellent. Bread was many mini loaves, good enough to hold you till the app. Which I forgot about: Sweetie and I shared Brussels sprouts. Very good, with shaved parm on top. We all had leftovers (of the entrees, not the sprouts) for lunch the next day. Service was great, the setting is nice. Several seating options, including igloos in the courtyard. We also had breakfast here, free with vouchers from staying in the hotel, and it was a step above the usual hotel breakfast. Same kind of items, but better quality. AYCE, for $15 if you're paying separately, and though of course you pay one way or another it was worth it. We'd definitely come back. Really only came because it was handy, but way better than expected, and part of a nice stay at the hotel. read more

Six of us went to dinner there last night. We sat in the dining room, overlooking the pond and gazebo all lit up for Christmas. It was so pretty. Our waiter was John and he was great, creating a Christmas cocktail for my friend, as there wasn't one on the menu. On to the menu! I had the Chilean sea bass with a red wine sauce, fried brussel sprouts and a house salad with their house cherry vinaigrette dressing. Every single bite was perfection! Muhaw! Chefs kiss! My husband had the 10oz Delmonico ribeye, Mac and cheese! He said it was one of the best steaks he's ever had. Not one of us had anything we didn't think was absolutely delicious! So to wrap it up, I recommend you give them a try, you won't be disappointed! read more

We asked to sit somewhere else where 80% of the seats was still open and she still refused. 3 stars to compensate for good Service. Food was ok, I had better Prime Rib. We love the Craftsman. The Cherry Valley hotel is beautiful and it's such a relaxing environment for brunch or dinner. We often go for brunch on Sunday after Mass and are so impressed with the menu and the value. Some great prices and we love to visit our favorite server, Suzie. She is so fun and personable. We went today for the Easter brunch and had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and our two year old grandson loves to go visit the fish in the pond out back after we eat. I do not like to give a negative review, but i really had a bad experience and wanted to share my honest opinion. I went here for my anniversary dinner and wanted to experience their igloo dinning during December. Except for our igloo ambiance, we did not like anything here. This was the most expensive dinners I have ever had and zero value for money. We made a 7pm reservation and showed up by 6:58 pm, and there wasn't anyone to greet us at the desk. We had to wait around 10 mins for the host to show up and be seated. Plus, we weren't given a good spot for our igloo. we were seated right in front of the restaurant and had no privacy. However, the service was quick, and our waitress was sweet. My husband had requested a special dessert for our anniversary while making the reservation, and we never got it, which was very disappointing. The food taste and quality were below average for the price ($230)that we paid. The overall dining was for 90 mins. I would not recommend this restaurant for dining. However, the cherry valley hotel itself is very beautiful place with cozy ambiance. read more

I don't give poor ratings often. I felt like I had to this time. We made a 7pm reservation, showed up at 6:45 because we wanted to see the grounds. As we got close to the tavern, we overheard another person who was waiting grumbling about how long she has waited for someone to come back. So, decided to wait so we could get in. We were seated at 7:20, which is 5 minutes after their "grace period " for reservations. 35 minutes later. The waitress couldn't describe several menu items, and they were out of 2 items on the new menu, and their featured beer, so I settled for the burger and salad. The salad was decent, made up of field greens. But, only field greens, which made for a salad that was flavorful and hard to swallow. The champagne vinegarette was on point. The burger bin was brioche, and toasted perfectly. The lettuce and tomato were fresh. But, the burger patty, while obviously fresh ground beef, was flavorless and over cooked. I had ordered it medium, it was well done to shoe leather. Seasoning? If there was any, I can't tell you what it was. Salt and pepper would have helped. 1 Star for the food and service, add a star for the ambiance. The remodel of the hotel is nice, and the grounds around the pond was inviting. I should mention that we saw at least 15 pizzas go out while we were there, so maybe we missed the boat by ordering the wrong thing. Also, we saw 2 people return their drinks to the bar, one was loud enough for us to overhear that it tasted like fruit water. Finally, there was another table that waited the whole time we were eating for a waiter to come. They finally flagged down the bar tender to get served. read more

We had a reservation at 4:00, for 16 people. At 4:00, we arrived, dining room was dark. We were told , rudely, that they don't open until 4:15. Okay. Once open, tables weren't set up..we did that ourselves. The waiter brought our warm bread,which was good, but burned on top. Our service was good, though. Our group was unanimous..we won't go back. We had a really nice meal here. The weather was great so the dining room was open to the patio which was fun. The service was excellent. My husbands filet was cooked precisely and was flavorful and juicy. I had the cremini ravioli which was wonderful. There were bread plates on the table but when I asked if they had bread or rolls I was told they did not. That was a slight disappointment as I'd have liked to have been able to get every drop of sauce from my ravioli as it was delicious! But it was still great! read more

2 weeks ago NEW We drove over 2 hours one way for our 5PM reservation on a Saturday but were told when we arrived that our reservation was not for an igloo, just for the restaurant. I showed them my text confirmation and they told me that was not the right confirmation and the igloos were fully booked....even though the place was dead and most of the igloos looked empty.I was unable to get logged into my Resy account while standing there because I forgot my password to login. We decided to leave because we didn't want to stand there and argue with the host who didn't really seem to care much and told us all the igloos were booked anyway...with invisible people I guess.... On the drive home I was finally able to get logged into the Resy account and found the reservation that clearly showed my reservation for 2 at 5PM in an IGLOO.I sent copies of the reservation to the restaurant via email but didn't receive a reply which is why I'm now leaving this review. I'm still annoyed at the 4 hour round trip we made and the lack of compassion. Reading through the other reviews on here and Google it looks like there's some room for improvement... read more

The new menu is full of delicious items. The boar empanadas were perfect and my delmonico steak was spot on! Ren and Stacey provided exceptional service. Before I share this review, I need you to know that I did email the hotel TWICE at the front desk email address listed on the website, and through the form on their website. I never received a response. So, I am sharing my story here. This is about the Igloo Dining. I paid $190 for a lackluster experience. The food was good, the service was great, but the atmosphere really left us with a bad experience. It was February 16th at 8:45 p.m., it was a special Valentine's Day date and I had been waiting for almost a year for the experience, and while it did unexpectedly snow that evening, we were NOT prepared for the experience we had. We spend a lot of time at this hotel for holiday events, reserving rooms for birthdays and New Years Eve, and eating at the Craftsman Kitchen. It was definitely underwhelming, and we are not one to complain because we will just "suck it up and bare it". We had to wait for quite a while to get into the igloo because of the switch over, but we were perfectly fine waiting. We both dressed warm with sweaters and boots, and were prepared for dining outside. We just were not prepared that the Igloo would be SO COLD. We were in the last Igloo on the walking trail if you go to the right. While the heater was on, it was not putting off enough heat, and you could tell that the electric in the Igloo was drained because the string lights were fighting for the electric, it was either the string lights or the "fireplace" (which seemed decorative), but not both. If you turned the fireplace off, the string lights would come on. The portable heater in there was probably strained as well. As we sat there with our coats and gloves on, we enjoyed the delicious food, while being able to see our breath as you normally can do when you are outside on a very cold night. It was a very odd experience eating filet mignon and being able to see your breath like you're eating outside. We tried to make the most out of it, even putting on our own music, and dancing. But we still could not feel our toes. We even tried to use the throw blankets. It was truly the most romantic and most uncomfortably cold date ever. We couldn't even make it to dessert, so we went inside to have the server pack it up (he is wonderful by the way!). We had no issues with the food, or the service. But the environment was unbearable. The WORST part about it was that when we passed by another Igloo on our way back in and we opened it (the one front and center), and it was SO MUCH WARMER in there! Why were we eating in an Igloo that had heating problems when the other Igloos seemed to be functional? This made paying the $190 check even more stomach churning. It is disappointing that Cherry Valley Hotel never even bothered to address my concern. Now I will always remember this experience when I go back. I would also like to see that Igloo be evaluated and redone so that nobody else has the same cold experience that we did. Very disappointed! read more

Worst restaurant experience of our lives. Server could not answer any menu questions other than immediately telling us In disgust the special had a head and tail. Both our drinks orders were messed up. I was there for over an hour with no drink. The only refill came after we finished dinner, over a 2 hour experience. Every table around us received the wrong food and many the wrong drinks. Manager come to the table next to us 3 times and seemed clueless. Salads were not good. Burger was good. Tuna appeared cheap, stringy, and grey. The lamb chop was a pork chop, seriously. They argued and finally took it back. The bill was wrong, charged us for more expensive wine. read more

The food is overpriced for the quality. I went with a burger, because I didn't want to step too far out on my first try, especially considering the restaurant was basically empty at lunchtime. Burger was unseasoned and overcooked ( I asked medium and was served medium well). Cottage fries are just thickly cut potatoes with salt for seasoning. I also ordered the crab hush puppies as a starter but they just tasted like deep fried cornmeal with a hint of crab. My coworker ordered the prosciutto charcuterie board, and this was probably the highlight of my meal. He also ordered the beef stroganoff, which he was unable to finish because of the beef quality (it tasted gray), so he sent it back and they took it off the bill and replaced it with a burger since that is the safest option here. The view outside is nice and the atmosphere is relaxed so because of that I give it two stars. I don't think I would return for another meal. read more

My wife and I made reservations for Cherry Valley Hotel's Restaurant for Valentine's Day, 7:00 P.M. Our last visit, in October 2019, did not got well (See email that I sent to the restaurant below. I did not receive a response to that email.). We hoped that some of the problems we experienced in October, during a "soft" opening would be resolved. We arrived at 6:50 P.M. but waited a few minutes to be seated. Our waitress did appear promptly with water and took our drink order and our first course selection. (Valentine's Day featured a special menu with limited options; the regular menu and wine list were not offered.) The first course was served in a reasonable time, but without our drinks. I reminded our waitress and she explained that she was still waiting on on wine. Our first courses Shrimp Bisque and Sweet Potato Veloute, were lukewarm at best. The waitress served my wife's bow of bisque with her thumb insider the bowl, but fortunately not in the bisque. The second courses were salads which were rather small and uninteresting at best. For the main course, I chose the Chicken Karaage served on garlic and lentil pilaf and my wife had the scallops served on risotto. Both dishes were lukewarm. My wife did enjoy the scallops, but my chicken was disappointing and the garlic and lentil pilaf was dry, flavorless and cold. For desert myth wife ordered the Chocolate Soufflé, but she believed that it was really a flourless chocolate cake. It certainly was not the light and airy dish one would associate with a soufflé. She did enjoy the blood orange gelato served as a garnish My Banana Kulfi was served in a bowl much too large for the serving and the garnish of puffed rice tossed on top gave the impression of a carelessly tossed together dish. It was sweet but otherwise bland. The timing of the service was frustrating. We were left with dirty dishes on our table for long periods of time. We were seated at 7:00 PM and finished at 9:00 PM. Considering the limited menu, I don't understand they lengthy wait between courses. We were not offered any further drinks or coffee. We had high hopes for this restaurant, but both visits were very disappointing. The service did improve slightly from the first visit (See my email below) but I am unlikely to return. VISIT ON OCTOBER 19, 2019 You spoke to my Rotary Club, Newark-Heath, and convinced me that my wife and I should visit Cherry Valley Hotel and try the restaurant. We made reservations for 7:00 p.m. on October 19, 2019. We did not have a positive experience and I decided to bring this to your attention. We were seated in an area that's to the left just as you enter the seating area. I would describe it as a large alcove and it was generally a nice table. Unfortunately, the table wobbled a bit and one of the landscaping lights in the courtyard was shining through the window and into my face. The noise from the rest of the restaurant seemed to be trapped by the shape of the room and that was not helped by the very noisy group seated at a large table on the right side of the entrance. We were seated with menus, but with no wine list. We waited several minutes before our waitress appeared, and we asked for a wine list. My wife ordered a glass of pinot grigio. Before the wine was served, we ordered our meals and I ordered Ice Tea. It was fifteen minutes from the time we were seated until the time our order was placed, so I began to pay more attention to the time. While we were waiting, a table close to us received their drinks, and one customer received a carafe of white wine. He looked at it strangely and asked the waitress what it was. She told him it was the wine he ordered and he responded that he did not order this, he ordered Guinness. She asked if that was a type of wine and he told her it was beer. She apologized and returned with a can of Guinness and no glass. He asked for a glass and she finally brought a strange looking long stemmed glass, definitely not a beer glass. Our waitress returned and reassured us our meals would be ready soon. We had not received our drinks and we reminded her at that time. The pinot grigio was served, but it had obviously spent some time sitting out as it was not chilled. We feared that we had received the wine that the nearby customer had been served several minutes earlier. After waiting for our meals approximately 20-30 minutes, they arrived, but I still had not received the ice tea that I ordered. The meals were served by someone other than our waitress and I reminded him that I had ordered ice tea. Several minutes later our waitress appeared to check on us and I asked for my ice tea once more. I did finally receive it. Our meals tasted as if they had been setting out for some time. Mine was barely warm and my wife complained that her meal was cold. (The risotto was a bit too lemony for me, but that might just be my taste.) read more

Nothing has changed. As a local that tries to support local business, and has tried every revision of Cherry Valley over the years this is disappointing. Went in on a weekend to get lunch or brunch... Nope, no "late" breakfast foods. The food was fine but very few vegetarian options. And please hire some serving staff that will come around to the tables more than once every 15 minutes. Same poor service quality as every time I've been in here over the past 20 years. Disappointing. UPDATE: Went back to try again. Absolute worst dining experience in the 22 years we've lived in Licking Country. You'd be better off going up the road to Bob Evans (which is near the bottom of my list of restaurants to go to). God help you if you want a glass of water at this place. Four of us went to Cherry Valley Hotel for lunch today. Beautiful hotel and gardens. Unfortunately lunch was another story. Waited 10 minutes after being seated for our server to come to the table. Ordered lunch and waited over 45 minutes for the food to arrive. During our wait, the Manager come over to ask how we were. We e planned that we had waited too long for a restaurant with only five other table occupied. No apology but said he would check on our order. Food was not good. Veggie burgers were burnt, bun was hard and stale, and my salad was nothing special and was delivered without dressing. Not an experience I plan to repeat. It's unfortunate because the grounds are beautiful. Just don't plan on eating at their restaurant. read more

Disappointing. I ate there with my girlfriend and initially everything was ok but while waiting on our food my drink ran out and had to wait 15min for the server to come back. Then when my steak came it was medium well, which was a far cry from the way I ordered it which was rare. My girlfriend ordered their fish and chips style walleye which was great except and it was undercooked with raw batter in the middle. When the server came back and asked about the food I told her that the flavor was good but my steak was overcooked and I never even got a chance to mention that girlfriends fish was raw in the middle because she simply scoffed and walked away. She had been nice up till that point with no bad happenings or issues so I'm not sure what warranted that response. After finishing what we could, my girlfriend obviously left the raw batter portion of her fish and I left the center most portion of the steak so they would be able to verify it was way overcooked, we had to wait another 15min to get the bill. Overall, bad service and the food had good flavor but was far from being cooked properly. Will not be going there again as the waitress either never informed management or management didn't care. Either way, I've never been scoffed at because someone messed up my food, management was present and never stopped by the table (and the place was not crowded), and I believe staff behavior is often indicative of management behavior. read more

Went for a birthday dinner with the wife, and was pleasantly surprised, had the calamari and it was perfectly done not chewy or rubbery like most places, dinner was the pork chop and braised cabbage, absolutely perfectly done juicy and delicious with the cabbage still firm. My wife had the special a Mediterranean sea bass that was equally as tasty and much better quality and portion than much higher priced columbus seafood restaurants. The drinks were generous a Bloody Mary with obviously house made mixer and local beer paired perfectly with the meal. Topped off with dessert of housemade cheesecake and their signiture s'mores dessert made for a perfect meal. Service was as you would expect from a brand new place, lots of questions back and forth with the kitchen but all were answered quickly, staff was all very pleasant and attentive, food came perfectly times and hot. Go with time to relax and enjoy the atmosphere as it is not your scripted cookie cutter restaurant a very nice addition to the Newark/Heath area which is sorely lacking in quality restaurants read more

Well, let me start with I'm a local and I want nothing more than our small businesses to succeed. My husband and I gave this restaurant three tries. Sadly, I wouldn't recommend it. The ambiance is lovely, the service is marginal, and the menu is sad. It's as if the chef wants it to be some unique style of dining instead of a nice more traditional restaurant. The selections are few and strange. I had the horseradish beef stroganoff. The first time it was pretty good, the second time my husband ordered it and the meat was all fatty, he didn't eat it at all. The fish and chips were very greasy. I hope they read these reviews and realize they aren't hitting it out of the ball park. With summer not too far away they better get their act together. And btw, when you're a restaurant within a hotel perhaps extending the breakfasts hours would be nice for the visitors, many of whom come from other time zones where 11 a.m. is still 8 a.m. to them. As a side note, if you want a great dining experience, drive to Johnstown and visit Ghostwriter Public House, it's exceptional. Perhaps the owners of The Craftsman Kitchen & Terrace should go check it out and pick up some pointers. read more
