I've been coming to Draft House for years and I decided to go this past weekend and the service has gone downhill bad since my last visit. The 2 bartenders, one with dark hair and the other had tattooed arms, were just rude and inattentive to us almost the entire time. We didn't stay long because we didn't feel welcomed and she was arguing with customers. Glad to see the inside decor was not changed though since new ownership. read more

I was with a group of around 10 for lunch and we overwhelmed them. They were already busy and it's a small place with around 8 booths and long bar with stools. there was no doubt it was a local crowd. We sat down and there were not enough booths so myself and friend sat at the bar. The waitress was extremely busy!!! Other friends were not getting menus and felt like the wait would be too long and left. I hung in there. It did take a while for orders, but obvious they were overwhelmed and did not have proper staffing. Orders taken and the waitress was friendly and apologetic at the wait. Burgers, fries and beer seemed perfect. Drinks were served immediately. We found out the dishwasher called in and the owner was cooking and doing dishes in their tiny kitchen. So most certainly I'm providing Grace on this review. Food took around 25 minutes to hit the counter. Visually looked good, basic. The temperature was correct. The taste on the burger exceeded expectations. Bun fresh, thin burger patty tasty. The fries although basic were crisp and hot. The food saved the review with service struggles. However staff was always nice. The bill was also delayed, but at this point we understood the staffing dynamic. The price was crazy reasonable and a generous tip was applied. 3.5, rounding up. read more

This is a bar with a diner style menu and no one will feel uncomfortable dining here if you do not drink. I don't drink and I eat here at least once a month. I cannot recommend anything other than the baloney sandwich only because I've eaten nothing but the baloney sandwich. It's thick cut baloney, grilled onions, pepper Jack cheese on a bun with mayo. I order onion rings as well so that tells you how concerned I am about onion breath! It's the perfect grilled baloney sandwich and believe me, I've had many. It's the perfect comfort food for this working class girl. The place is packed with the usual bar fodder: Elvis photos and action figures, pin-up calendar pages from days gone by, and a variety of junk from the 50's and 60's. Made a trip up to Newark to grab a bite with a friend. I heard this place had amazing cheeseburgers so decided to check it out. The bar is seemingly run by two adorable and sweet elderly women. One of which I'm told is the owner who mainly cooks. I was told if I wanted the experience, to get the Benjy-boy-girl, so I did. This looks like a gluttonous slop fest on paper, but oh no, it was delicious. I felt my head pounding as the salt load hit my blood from that and the fresh hot fries. That with a cold draught beer and I was was in my happy place. If you want some cheap delicious food that will fill you up so much you can actually feel the gravitational pull from your stomach affecting other patrons in the restaurant, you've found your place in Newark. read more

Draft House is a good dive bar. It's right on the square. They don't really have any other bars right around there so the town needs them. It gets popular with the downtown crowd. The bar is small but fits a lot of characters inside. I had a Jim Beam and Coke. It was only about $3 for a large glass. The drink was stronger than many other bars I recently had been to. It also has bar food. The most popular of this is probably the burger, a big greasy creation and surely unhealthy. It felt kind of crowded even in the afternoon. It often will be crammed for the late night. The atmosphere is relaxed and service is pleasant. read more

I picked this restaurant based on yelp reviews, drove over an hour to meet someone there, and have never been more embarrassed about a restaurant choice. Food was delivered to the wrong table and the waitresses yelled and cussing at each other in the dining room for at least 15 minutes. The food took a very long time to come out, but the catfight between the waitresses delayed everything even longer. It was a ridiculous and stressful situation for all who were there. read more

It is like an English PUB. Not fancy at all, in fact borders on primitive, but that is part of the charm of this place. The owners are nice, wait staff is very casual and attentive. Full bar, beer and wine. PUB food such as Hamburgers, Sandwiches, Pizza, and a few dinner options on the menu. This is an experience in itself, Happy friendly Customers and the Cook is Great. Name is a little misleading, as the draft choices are limited. But the Benji Boy Girl Burger is TREMENDOUS. Cold beer, loud jukebox, great French fries, and the bartender called me "sweetie" and "honey" all afternoon. Total dive bar, but that's why I like it. We were in town for a baseball tournament and discovered the Draft house. It has such an old school feel. We absolutely loved it. If you want an ice cold beer in a frozen mug and a homemade burger this is your place. We went two days in a row and on the second day the owner recognized us and remembered our drinks from the day before. Family run and they are really nice. Loved the storm door entrance! read more

Don't let the "Dive" description keep you away. Top shelf bar food, great soups and cheep drinks. In the fall and winter their chili is just like my grandma and moms "Ohio Chili!" It is dark, filthy, and there is no room for stunt shows or shenanigans. If you have any expectations besides having a good time, you should get stuffed and go somewhere else. Have never been to Newark, Ohio before, but was told Elliott's was the place to be. They had a wait, so I wondered across the street to Draft House where I found myself in a LOVELY environment. Eula was extremely courteous and made sure to make whatever drink requests I had plausible. I would definitely recommend draft house to anyone! read more

We like to visit here quite a bit. We used to frequent for lunch when we worked here in town. The service is great and the food is great. The bar is old and unique. It has a lot of character. No doubt this a dive bar... Newark's little secret. The whole block is stuck in a time warp, turn around while sitting at the bar and you may see a 20 something Billy Shatner stuffing pennies into a fortune machine while his newlywed wife is yanking his sleeve. My favorites include the fish plank sandwich, a filet o fish on steroids and the strip steaks. All the meals include a great salad, which is down to earth salad like you would make at home. No wedge salads or goat cheese fruity creations here - save those for the higher $$ places around the corner which close up long before the Draft House closes. The strips are flame broiled less than 20 feet from ya, right in the bar. Do not put any garlicky vinegar steak sauce these juicy meat lovely's. Order it medium rare and full of juice. Have them grill up some onions and dump them on the steak, its part of the hidden menu. Home fries are served on the side - ask for the peppers to be grilled with them you will like them. The onion rings are also great, large and the batter is sweet - order them as your main dish if you aren't in the mood for meat and you are willing to risk a cholesterol driven heat attack. Sorry no mashed taters here. Next time your at the Midland for a show skip the normal joints and head into the Draft house especially after the show. The crowds will be down in the bar and the Dhouse has a kitchen that is open late. For desert - the bar serves a full complement of drinks or bring your desert, but be prepared to share with the bar crowd. read more

First of all I want to start out by saying that I love dive bars and this is definitely that. I also have never written a review for anything but the draft house is worthy of being the first. The beer here is as cold as it can be without being a slushy and they are served in frosty mugs for the cheapest price that I have paid anywhere. (1.25 sm. and 1.75 lg.) This alone is reason enough to go here, but the star of the show is the Benji-Boy-Girl Burger. It is hands down the best burger in Newark, and holds its own to anywhere (dare I say Thurman's). Although smaller in price and size I only compare it to Thurman's because it is a burger with ham on it (like Thurman burger) as well as roast beef and all the toppings. The deli meat on the sandwich melts in your mouth and melds with the American cheese and burger perfectly. Most everything else on the menu is typical bar food, but all quality and affordable. You will no doubt run in to a few eccentric downtown locals, but that is all part of the experience. read more
