I'll start off by saying I am originally from Tennessee. Moved to the Monterey Bay area a couple years ago. Since then I have been deeply disappointed with the BBQ in this state. This has been the first place that had good BBQ. The pulled pork and brisket were really good and didn't require any sauce for flavor. The side were all exceptional (potato salad & cornbread stood out the most). The coleslaw was the only weak point and I am completely ok with that. After I was finished I got to talk to the manager and he walked me around and took me to the pit to show me a bit of their operation. All and all I will be back for sure. Food was meh. Mac and cheese was NOT mac and cheese. It was more like a cavatappi pasta with GRITTY alfredo sauce. -1 Pork ribs are horrible. 5 inch bone with less than 1/4 inches of meat on each side. -1 Potato salad was bleh. It had a smokey flavor to it. Just because you serve it at a BBQ place doesn't mean it has to taste smokey. I get it, sometimes the sides will take on a smokey flavor... BUT they were in individual cups... an did tasted like a few drops of liquid smoke were added. I like my potato salad with mayo, a little mustard, egg, onion, celery, etc... not liquid smoke. -1 The garlic bread was fresh... that was the only good part of the meal. Don't get me wrong, it's nice to have a BBQ place so close by, but it's just okay/so-so. The cornbread is phenomenal but I wasn't expecting 2oz of the 3oz of "meat" promised in my kids meal to be bone ( a light eater-sue me). Like they literally gave me a soggy & sad chicken drumstick in foil but the menu made it seem like I was getting hand pulled chicken. You're not, it isn't that great of a BBQ place. That's cool though, were not in the south & for city mice it's not a bad effort. Be sure to grab extra BBQ sauce because the servings aren't very saucy. Good cornbread though! The food was super delicious. My partner got the BBQ chicken, Mac and cheese, and baked potato. He left nothing on the plate, it was that good. I got half of the house salad and added bbq chicken. The half a salad was a good portion, also not sure if the blue cheese dressing is made in house but it was definitely the best blue cheese dressing I have had. We got our favorite go to salad, the Santa Maria with Blue Cheese and tried a special sandwich w/brisket & chimichurri sauce. Salad was awesome, as always! We split this salad between 2 people. There's red onion, blue cheese crumbles, cucumber, tomato, red, yellow bell pepper, avocado. They must make their own blue cheese dressing because it is insanely delicious, craveable & yummy! The sandwich was new to us and while we couldn't really taste a super strong "chimichurri" flavor the meat and sandwich overall was delicious and there were no leftovers! We also got a side of the spicy bbq sauce, but honestly, the food is so yummy that we both pretty much ate everything and only dipped into the sauce a couple of times. ( looking forward to using the leftover sauce with fries) Service is always by nice, friendly, helpful people. We did take our food to go to eat at home & lounge on our deck. So appreciative for all of the hard work that your staff does to provide a consistent, yummy meal!! The chicken was super dry, there was potato salad but I'm not sure what it was but def different than any potato salad I've ever had and the flavor was off. Mac and cheese was ok. Just kind of disappointed. Paid 26 ish dollars for the large Tri tip which was dry and cold and not a half pound of meat like advertised. The potato salad and beans were not good at all and when I asked the young kid working for more bbq sauce and he tossed it on the table and walked off. I asked him if I ordered a large and he said "yes it's over a half pound of meat", which it wasn't. My gf had the sandwich which had more than double of the meat than I had and half the price.....I mean I can't expect a lot from this place anymore. Definitely a good place to eat in Carmel. It is out of town about a mile or so but worth the drive. Had the smoked brisket sandwich with Mac and cheese. Brisket was tender and flavorful. Easy to find it is not... there's much going on in the area that got discombobulated... eventually finding it by walking around and following the door numbers. Service... liked it; its what I would expect from the looks of things. Simple, punctual and kind. Place looks nice; I can picture it as it would be if things were like this used to be. BBQ Beef sandwich with slaw. I judge by the taste of the meat without any sauce and I could not taste it. The sauce was good, but the meat was a little tough. I'm going to attribute the toughness to how they have to preserve the food for the type of service most restaurants must follow now. Maybe hot plate/hot bulb keeping food warm as to not waste or make customers wait for it to be done. Bread pudding was a sigh. Was melted sugar (too much) and the drizzle on it didn't stand out nor was the bread soft and fluffy to the point of dissolve. But I do know bread pudding types vary so so much from place to place. NO MORE GOING TO APTOS FOR BBQ!! These are the same ppl who own Aptos BBQ which has one of the BEST bbq I ever had. I always get their ribs in which you can actually taste the wood smoke and the meat literally falls off the bone with ease. The menu looks the same as the one in Aptos, they also have a good beer list, not as extensive as the one in Aptos' 30+. They also don't bring you the food like Aptos, instead, they give you a buzzer to let you know the food is ready. The food comes out super quick and this place has MUCH more sitting space than the Aptos location and also has 2 bathrooms instead of one haha. Most of the stuff is self-serve at a station between the kitchen and register for example; BBQ sauces, napkins, to-go boxes, candy, etc. Their brisket is very good as well, so tender and juicy. Their garlic bread isn't too heavy on oil and garlic but just the right amount. I mean if you have any doubts look up Aptos BBQ in Aptos, CA and look at the reviews there. You will not be disappointed, I'm just so happy that they opened a location near me so I don't have to drive so far anymore for good bbq. When I went in it looked like they were still training people and working out the kinks. Everytime we are in this area, Crossroads BBQ is a must have. I always get the tender and delicious tri-tip. Hubby always gets the chicken! Both delicious!! I also love the potatoe salad which is very different from what I'm used to but it is really good. Now, the cole slaw could use a little help because it is too dry for our taste. No traces of mayo or salad dressing could be found But that is not a deal breaker for this place at all. Also want to mention that the front staff are Always pleasant and attentive. I first heard of this spot towards the end of 2021. I didn't make it there until February, moved out of California in March, and couldn't stop thinking about the brisket and spicy bbq sauce until I moved back in May. Some afternoon in February my brothers, son, and I finally made it here. A coworker of mine had been raving about it for months and now I know why. The restaurant is located at the end of a line of shops at the Crossroads. You can't miss it because their hardest working employee is out there inviting you in with the most delicious scents of smoking meats wafting up from their smoke stacks. (It's their smoker guys and gals) :o) We couldn't make a decision on the combination of meats to order so the manager, Adrian asked what we liked and we let him order for us. While we waited for our meal we had a couple beers from their selection that they had on tap. My brother got the POG and I had something a little hoppy and sour. They were both yummy. I wish I remembered the name of the brewer. Our meal finally came and woah. It was Yum-O! Both my brothers have made their living as cooks and if you know cooks- they tend to find something about a meal that could have been done better. Neither one had a thing to say about improving our meal! Ok, so we had the sausage (yum), tritip (yum), pulled pork (yum), brisket (super yum!). I think we also had chicken (yum- had to be, right?). For sides we had the mac and cheese (yummy and cheesy), coleslaw (what a coleslaw should be), potato salad (yum), cornbread (this wasn't the cornbread I was used to eating but it was good). There were also slices of pickles and pickled onions that were perfectly crunchy and tangy and a berry cobbler none of us could even look at after our meal because we were stuffed! My favorite things were the brisket (perfectly smoked and glistening with the most yummy, melty fats) And the spicy bbq sauce (slightly sweet, and nicely spicy-it had a good kick). Pair those with some of their pickles and onions and MWAH! What a great bite! I've been back a couple times and even tried their breakfast tacos. My favorite? The tritip. You've gotta order with an over easy egg. Flour tortilla, over easy egg (rich yellow yolk making its way into every bite- uhh... yum), cuts of tritip, salsa, and some jalapeños. I came here with a friend of mine. We ordered two smoked chicken salads, to go during the COVID situation. After ordering we waited outside. There were multiple people working and nobody else ordering things at that time. The employees dropped our salads out on the counter and did not inform us they were ready, as we sat 6 feet away. 15 minutes later we inquired about our food and were told "it's right here!" The salads were very much like something you would throw together at home: basic iceberg lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes and a ranch dressing packet. Both salads were supposed to come with bread. We each chose cornbread. No cornbread was included, whatsoever. The total cost for the two, premade mix salads with cold leftover chicken was almost $40. We love BBQ, so we had to search for one while we were in town. Upon finding it and validating it with my cousin who actually lives in the area we decided to gives these guys a try. We ended up with a 2 meat combo which included brisket and pulled pork. My GF loved the pulled pork not sure if because its her favorite bbq or if it was really that good. I liked it, but I enjoy brisket even more so. We ended up trying two sides as well, she went with their coleslaw and I had their potato salad.
