My husband and I were lucky enough to choose this restaurant while we were staying in Carmel in September 2021. I have tried brisket at many barbecue restaurants and it was always tough and full of unchewable gristle. Until the Crossroads Barbecue in Carmel! The young woman who took my order said that brisket was their specialty. So I thought I would try it one last time and I am so happy that I did! I wished I had ordered a double order of brisket and nothing else, LOL! My husband was likewise impressed. WOW! Carmel has really been missing out. I am so glad this place opened up because there are not really any barbecue places around here. This was a much needed change. This place is super casual and is great for families. The menu has all the staple BBQ items along with some delicious sides. (The beans are fantastic!)The counter service makes dining here so incredibly easy. Customers can grab their food at the counter and sit where they would like. The food is really yummy and provides the tiny town of Carmel something it's been lacking: a taste of the South. The decor of the restaurant is cute and provides a nice dining experience. Went here today and holy cow was it expensive! $28 for 1 person! The ribs were ok, beans meh, and the coleslaw was just some plain boring cabbage. Definitely not worth the price! To start off with the positive, the employees were helpful and friendly and the restaurant was clean. While not what I really consider bbq, I can't say the meat was bad. On the other hand, I would rather not eat any of their sides again. The cole slaw was a little soft and had no real flavor other than vinegar. The bread and beans were similarly blah. There are other solid food options in the crossroads so I probably would not return, except maybe to bring home some meat for an easy start to dinner. read more

Just gave them a second try for lunch today. Had the pull pork combo with potato salad and cole slaw. The pork wasn't pulled, it was dry and unseasoned. The cole slaw was a commercial product and the potato salad was not moist or creamy. The garlic toast was charred and flat with grease. As I said, my second try was just as disappointing as the first. It's too bad, we could use a great bar-b-que place around here. read more

I am a big BBQ guy from North Carolina and was so excited to have a place like this in our town. I took my family of 4 out to eat here and was a bit disappointed. The atmosphere was good. I really liked the decor. I thought the meat was good, I sampled all the meat products and thought they were ok. I was really disappointed in the sides. Cole slaw was bland and the beans tasted like a bowl of chili. I guess I just expected it to be better for the price. It cost us for a party of 4 about $ 90.00 which I thought was really high for the size of portions of meat we received. When we went they had just opened so I may try it again just to see if I was wrong. My suggestion to the owner is bring your prices down for the portions you charge or charge the same but give bigger portions, get a better recipe for the Cole slaw and beans and I think you will do ok in the space you are in. read more

I recently ordered a spicy pulled-pork sandwich to go. When I got home, I found out I had a spicy beef sandwich. I had a very small portion of this large sandwich that was slathered with a massive amount of BBQ sauce. I threw most of the sandwich away. I called the manager the next day who took my number and said he'd look into this and get back to me. I haven't heard from him. read more

Go only when there is no live music. Way too loud and impossible to carry on a conversation. The restaurant is too small and poorly laid out for a music venue. Good music but not conducive to conversational dining. Food quality was mixed. Dry chicken, excellent Tri-tip. Potato Salad tasted like it came from a Safeway Deli 5 gallon container..but not as good. Beens were OK but a bit sweet for my taste. Garlic bread had only the barest hint of Garlic. Seen this spot back away in the corner for some time now so decided to pop in for a taste . At first I thought they were moving slow in the kitchen but as I got my food it was well worth the wait id say . I dont really eat bbq like this ever so maybe thats why i enjoyed so much and that ive never been to another bbq food restaurant . Just brought home a tri tip bbq meal for my husband as take-out. I will never go back. For $16 it had a small foil pack of 3 small (3"x3") pieces of tri tip, thinly sliced. Not even enough for a sandwich, let alone a meal. A small 1/4 cup of beans, a slice of bread and a salad that would serve four. Terrible. I was so pissed when I saw what I'd brought home for him. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience here. Bbq food is few and far in between in the Bay Area but by far this is the best I've had. The gentleman in front brought my food to me over on the outdoor seating space and even gave my dog some water to drink! Was very pleased with the tritip sandwich and the flavor alone is unrivaled. Brought the family here. We were quite impressed with the place especially considering the other dining experiences we've had in this shopping center. Everyone of us got something different and we were extremely satisfied. I especially liked their tri tip, it was moist and full of flavor and their potato salad was delicious! My wife had the chicken which she raved about and there was nothing left on my kids plates when we were done. They also have an awesome beer menu. I read past reviews from some not so happy people with this place and all I can say is it's a bbq joint you idiots. Big deal if you have to "get up" to get your ass a spoon, or you don't like the "decor" or omg it's served on "paper plates"...Furthermore to say this place isn't up to "Carmel" standards excuse me but who died and made you GOD. You've obviously got more problems then a bad dining experience buddy. We found the decor to be creative, the food to be affordable and delicious, the service friendly, the live music every night awesome. I'm traveling, and I was looking on Yelp for some place in Carmel that have BBQ. I found this place, but didn't have any information about it, because it is new. I went there. To start my review, I was with my pet inside the pet carrier, before I get in, I did look at the door searching for any kind of sticker, to make sure that they allow or not dog inside the place. I didn't see anything, so, i came in, ordered my food, took a seat. I was almost done, and the owner came and said that they don't allow dogs ( I didn't have a choice, because I had already paid for it and I was almost finished). First of all, the dog was inside the pet carrier, second, they didn't had any kind of information at the door showing that they don't allow dogs. Let's talk about the food? It's expensive, I paid more than $ 50 dollars for one drink and two meals. They serve a kind of bag of chips. It's very hard to chew, the potato salad was ok, but the meat, I didn't like it. When you go in some place, you want at least two things. First, be treated like a guest, and second, the food has to be good. In this place, both are under of average. read more

Since this place is right by my work, I usually find myself here after work for a beer or two and some food. Can't say enough good things about the meat especially the tri tip. Always tender and delicious. As for sides I love the potato salad, there's just a hint of bbq sauce in it which sets it apart from others I've tried. The beans and coleslaw are great as well! Terrible decor, collecting your own food, self service fountain, mediocre sandwich, music so loud you can forget about having a conversation, no heat in the restaurant even though it's 54 degrees out so we had to wear our coats, scarves and gloves...and outrageously expensive for fast food service and fast food quality. The people behind the counter couldn't explain the specials, and when one of them tried to ask the manager, he ignored her. To top it off, one of my companions got sick later in the day. I am still looking for a BBQ joint that is consistently good. This place has a long way to go. I have eaten there twice now and have had one three star meal and one 1 and 1/2 star meal. The beans were old an mashed like refried beans (horrible). The tri tip was tough and given to us in a lump not being cut through. This was a family meal. The salad was a big mess of mixed greens and sauces for bbq meats was missing. If you want to stay in business there are many problems that need corrected. Also turn your meats so they cook evenly. Disappointed! We are traveling, so we were with our dog inside of the pet carrier. They didn't say anything about it. When we had already eaten the owner came really rude and said we couldn't stay because of our dog. We had already paid for the food, that was not good. Ordered take out the other evening...Ribs and brisket dinners. Ribs were alright the brisket was good except over half of it was fat. The beans were not good the potato salad was editable. For dessert the bread pudding. It was cubed bread baked, no flavor, and hard as a rock. I asked for the sauce on the side so it wouldn't be soggy but I sure wouldn't have had to worry about that.
