My sister in law and I picked up a cake here recently for a party. The cake was SPECTACULAR. Gorgeous and detailed and exactly what we wanted. It also turned out to taste AMAZING. The only complaint is the way we were handed the cake to transport, which was completely open in a cupcake box. We were already so nervous about something happening to it before the bride could see it and being given this open, top heavy box made us both even more anxious. My friends and I were finishing dinner at the Rockford when our collective sweet tooth hit. Where to go for a happy dessert ending? A quick check on the Yelp app for iPhone and whoa, the Cupcake Shoppe is still open at 10pm! So we rolled on over and our group of 5 each snatched up our fave flavor. Now I hadn't been here in a long time and my first visit was, just ok. But you know what? The Cupcake Shoppe seems to have listened to some of their customer feedback, kudos! My cupcake sprinkled with crushed oreo was pretty moist and the frosting was just right. I disagree with some of the other reviewers which said that if you complained about too much frosting, you're a whiner. No need to over-frost the cupcake when you're just going to take it off and it's not the right density or sweetness. Too sweet is too sweet and too much is too much. So nice job Cupcake Shoppe! I have been coming here for 5 years. When I lived in Raleigh I was faithful on Fridays to pick up my GF cupcakes. Now that I come every couple of months to visit I always make my stop. Today was no different. Their GF cupcakes are very moist and delicious. My favorite is the red velvet with vanilla frosting. Today they had chocolate with chocolate frosting. Was really excited when I visited this place's website to find some very exquisite custom cakes and cupcakes. Decided to order a 6" cake for my fiancé's birthday, with a 'USA' theme. Cake was $75.00, but only came with 2 small, measly graphics. Disappointing after seeing how well other cakes were designed with incredible art, and significantly more and obvious effort put towards them. Taste was below average for such a premium price. Dry cake, and over loaded with hard frosting. The interior part of the cake had an equal amount of frosting as the cake itself. We visited the Cupcake Shoppe during our weekend stay in Raleigh. We decided on the Big Red (Red Velvet) and Pretty in Pink (strawberry cake with strawberry icing) cupcakes. While the cupcakes were pretty good, they don't quite compare to our favorite cupcake shop back home in Columbia, South Carolina, which is called Smallcakes. Kelsay preferred the strawberry cupcake over the red velvet, but what caused the cupcakes to be just shy of perfect was the density of the cake. I ordered a box of a dozen cupcakes for a neighbor who had done me a great favor. Some coworkers recommended this place, so I called and ordered the cupcakes for pickup that evening. I picked up a couple of extras so my partner and I would have a treat. The shop is very clean and quaint, with quirky and cute pieces of art here and there. I ordered the What's Up Doc (Carrot Cake with Cinnamon Cream Cheese Icing) - oh wascally wabbits, the icing is wickedly scrumptious! It was rich and creamy and actually tasted like carrot cake. The actual cupcake itself was a little dry and a little bland, but the wonderful icing more than made up for the cake. Wonderful indeed, because I usually find most bakery icing offensively sweet and pasty - not the case here fortunately. I was invited (via Facebook) to celebrate the Cupcake Shoppe's 5th Birthday so my boyfriend and I decided to stop by since we were downtown today. We were able to find a parking spot right outside on the street (woo!). The Cupcake Shoppe is so cute! Seriously, it is decorated like the Cupcake Shop of my dreams. I would love to sit at the table by the window all afternoon with an iced coffee, a magazine, and of course a fresh cupcake! When we went in around 4pm the case was fully stocked with all of their main flavor cupcakes and there was a full display of mini cupcakes that were free (!) in honor of the shops birthday celebration. We were craving something sweet after our dinner in downtown raleigh but lucettegrace had JUST closed so lo and behold, we found the cupcake shop on south glenwood that stays open very late. The place is beautiful! There is most definitely an aesthetic that they maintain here; old vintage cute cupcake boutique. They even have an antique cash register! Gorgeous store. We decided to split the mocha cupcake and it was oh so yummy. My boyfriend usually doesn't like cakes and cupcakes but he kept raving about this one. I thought the icing was a bit stiff but it did look nice. I just like the softer buttercream or even better, the cream cheese icing. Still tasty though. The cake was also quite moist. The peanut butter cup was plain chocolate cupcake with a peanut butter frosting that tasted like the inside of buckeye candies or PB fudge. The carrot cake frosting not had just a hint of cinnamon. The Cupcake Shoppe seemed like the perfect place to order special treats for a multi-party birthday bash this past weekend. I called in advance and placed an order to be picked up. We selected 18 assorted cupcakes. The cupcakes were ready as promised and handed over in a beautiful box with chocolate ribbon and stickers. The guests were all excited to select their cupcakes and everyone had quite the time deciding since they all looked so delicious. The only issues I found were the following: I had to print out the descriptions of the cakes off the company website to try and describe each cupcake to the guests - for them to decide. There were no labels or any indicators on the cupcakes or the box to determine what was what. Some cupcakes such as the lemon, vanilla, cinnamon, peanut butter etc. were very hard to decipher. The second issue was one of dryness with the cakes. While the icing flavors were sweet, thick, and flavorful, we found the cakes to be dry and not as full of flavor as we would have hoped. I would definately try The Cupcake Shoppe again, as it is hard to please over a dozen party guests with one type of cake, and the cakes are adorable. But I do hope the dryness of our cakes was a one time occurance. read more

Stopped at The Cupcake Shoppe today for the first time with some friends. The shop itself is very elegant with the walls of mirrors, the dainty tables, and the white and pink color scheme. There were certainly many choices (though not all that were displayed on the website). Our party ended up getting a Peanut Butter Cup, Carrot Cake, Pretty in Pink, and the flavor of the week (a brown sugar cupcake with their buttercream icing sprinkled with black sea salt). The cup cakes are very pretty to look at. I tasted the pretty in pink. Both the icing and the cake had good strawberry flavor. As previous reviewers have mentioned the cake itself isn't super sweet which is really nice with the sweet topping. The cake itself was plenty moist but I think the dry nature of the icing made each bite taste a bit dry (if that makes sense). I also tasted the Carrot Cake. It was ok. . . I prefer a darker carrot cake that usually comes from more brown sugar in the batter. Obviously I finished it and it was good but I would try a different flavor next time. The cupcakes are now $3.00 each. Certainly not an amount that is going to break the bank but I expected a larger product for that amount. That may just be me though. I would return to the Cupcake Shoppe for special events or to get a little gift for someone but I doubt I'll be a regular. read more

I recently visited this adorable cupcake shoppe and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere. It's pink and white with marble countertops and exudes a French feel. It's small but has an open feel, especially when they open the windows to the outdoor area. My friends had cupcakes and loved all of them. I ate a lavender macaron and thoroughly enjoyed it.
