Sanford~ This is a great addition to the cool vibe of downtown Sanford. We arrived just as they opened on a Friday afternoon. The place has dramatically changed from the former Imperial Bar. We both love seafood so it was hard to make a decision. My lunch mate had the fish and chips and I decided to try the catfish and chips. Both were delicious, although a little bit more greasy than I would have liked. She had the french fries with the old bay seasoning and I opted to do the Parmesan garlic fries! Delicious!! Definitely will make it back in to try the clam chowder, along with a lobster roll or two. Service was great.

5 stars for the freshest seafood in downtown Sanford! I've been hearing great things about The Current, and I'm glad I finally got to check them out for lunch recently. They used have a seafood counter in the food hall down the street, and they were so popular they were able to move into their own restaurant. They took over where The Imperial used to be, which is such a great space with plenty of indoor seating and a few outside tables as well. The chef greeted us when we came in as he was busy shucking oysters. The whole menu sounds incredible, but I was really feeling a salad so I went with the blackened mahi caesar salad which really hit the spot. It had a generous sized mahi fillet on top which was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We also ordered the fried pickles which were crispy and the batter had great flavor with a yummy dipping sauce. My friend & I were jokingly debating how the pickles would be served and whether they'd be chips or spears. To our surprise, they were neither! They were more thinly shaved like fries but it worked. All in all, I'll definitely be back and I've got my eye on that lobster roll and old bay fries next time!

    Cute decor!

Love The Current! The lobster roll and fish sandwich were both outstanding--everything tasted incredibly fresh, and the lobster roll was packed with generous chunks of delicious lobster. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, happily answering my questions about the different lobster roll options. They also offer a great selection of craft beers that pair perfectly with the food. The interior is charming with its nautical decor, and there's outdoor seating as well. I'll be back!

Fish and Chips and Fried Shrimp

The Current Seaford Bar is in Sanford Downtown District. Place your order at the counter, grab a number and seat yourself. You're in for some good seafood. We ordered the Fish & Chips with Fries and the Fried Shrimp. Service at the counter and in the restaurant was super friendly. Portions were great. Both the fish and shrimp were flavorful, lightly battered and crispy. It was so nice not having tons of fried batter overpower the flavor of the fish and shrimp. Fries were also fried crispy and perfectly seasoned. Props to the chefs for letting the flavors of their ingredients shine through with crispy fried textures and perfectly restrained seasoning. We arrived later in the afternoon and missed out on a fried soft-shell crab sandwich that sold out, but we'll be back for it!

Mike Smith is the chef-owner of the Current Seafood Counter in College Park and this stall in Henry's Depot here in Sanford. He also owns Maggie Dog, a craft sausage, roaming food cart in Sanford. I ended up here for dinner from a recommendation by someone working at the Greenery Creamery across the hall. He highly endorsed the Blackened Shrimp Caesar Salad and that sounded like the perfect light meal I was looking for. All of the seafood is sourced from Ocean Fresh in Winter Springs. Menu items offered included salads with fish, fish sandwiches, lobster rolls, fish and chips, clams, shrimp pasta, fried clams, shrimp, fish, and scallops, and buffalo and peel and eat shrimp. Sides include corn hushpuppies, old bay fries, fried okra, garlic parmesan fries, and blackened shrimp skewer. I paid at the counter and was given a beeper to let me know when my food was ready. My $17 salad was not very large but it was good. The crisp salad was topped with one skewer of warm, well seasoned, blackened shrimp. It hit the spot and was exactly the summer meal I was craving. After heading back to Greenery Creamery for dessert they told me that The Current, Seafood Counter was closing after this weekend so the owner could focus on his other businesses. That is a loss for Henry's Depot but I have a feeling this won't be the last time I'll be running into Chef Mike's delicious food.

We had shrimp with beer and a laid-back ambiance. They seem to recently opened; the place was spacious and well lit and service was friendly.

Blackened fish sandwich, blackened shrimp Cesar salad, fried okra, Baybreeze cocktails

Stopped in for the first time and had a really great experience! As soon as we walked in, everyone was super friendly and welcoming. We ordered our food and drinks, and our cocktails were made at the counter. Our food came out in about 10 minutes after. The prices were super reasonable, especially for the amount and quality of food we got. Everything was really tasty! We also tried the Bay Breeze cocktail, and it was refreshing and the perfect size. Overall, we left happy and will definitely be coming back!

Henry's Depot has a lot of really tasty options and The Current is a contender for the most delicious. My food was so good and the wait wasn't long. I'm excited to come back and try more of the menu, if you haven't been you're missing out!

    Absolutely delicious fish and chips!

I think they're going to need a bigger boat when word gets around how good they are. Like really good. I grew up on fish and chips, New Englanda' here. Wicked good yo! Super friendly helpful staff who clearly Loves what they're doing doesn't hurt. My new top notch spot despite off brand ketchup.

Hot Peel & Eat Shrimps were really flavorful!

We came here on a Tuesday afternoon. Not many people here at Lunch today so we got our food quickly. I got the fried catfish nuggets and I upgraded to the hush puppies. Both were served really piping hot and came with a side of two different sauces. Also had tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. Tiny little dab of coleslaw almost non-existent but I ate it It was okay. They have limited seating inside and lots of seating outside. My meal came to $18 including the tip. I think this is a little expensive for what you get but it was very good.

Went for an early Friday dinner of fish and chips and have been wanting to try this place out…read more Well the rumors are true, the fish was beautifully battered, fresh and flakey. The tartar sauce has to be home made because it was perfection. Fries were seasoned and cooked crispy but potato-y (IKYK). Like most the places in the food hall you order on a screen. We also went for an order of the hush puppies and friends let me tell you I have finally found incredible, soft but crispy, delicious and delicate hush puppies! And the homemade sauce to dip......Mmmmmm!They text you when your food is ready but because we took seats next door ours was delivered which I thought was extra nice. The food hall is fun, tables and chairs high tops and stools scattered throughout and The Basin is at the end if you are looking for a drink or two. Fun atmosphere, family feel. My only caution is to being your Stanley, I get why they charge the huge prices for the water and soda but that's just crazy lol.

Lots of seating inside and outside. I took it to-go. Serve ice was fast and efficient. I ordered the spicy Tuna Crunch and I added 2 Tempura shrimp to the order. The roll was delicious, fresh Tuna and ingredients, it was delicious! Total was $20 with a 10% gratuity, always tip those that prepare and serve your food

Recently I had dinner at Lighthouse Seafood Market & Cafe and it was my first time there, but…read moredefinitely not my last. Lighthouse is both a full seafood market and restaurant, giving you that fresh off the boat quality seafood cooked exactly how you like and served right to your table. I had the Blackened Grouper with broccoli and parsley red potatoes. The fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly, super juicy and incredibly fresh. The sides were just as good paired with the fish perfectly. I also had a tasty little side Caesar salad. The house Caesar dressing was great, lightly dressed so it didn't drown the romaine like some places do, and finished with grated parmesan and crunchy croutons. Overall, this was a great meal. The service was great, the food was excellent, and I would highly recommend checking them out.

First visit at this establishment. Was recommended by friends, before going I checked the website…read moreto get an idea of what others ordered. My sister started with the clam chowder, which she thought was a little spicy but good. I had a small Caesars salad. For the entree my sister ordered one snow crab cluster which I know for a fact their market price was high, also they don't offer them in any kind of seasoning. Putting Old Bay on them just makes the shell spicy. I ordered the 15 reds, which are peel and eat shrimp. They were great, cooked perfectly. We ordered the hush puppies 3 count, now this was a problem because first they should never be that big and on the oily side to me. Problems I noticed, some of the wait staff is not that friendly also most of the staff serving food without gloves. A young man brought a bowl of food to a customer with his thumb on the rim, gross. This is my major complaint and take away that confirms I won't be back. There are two prices listed on the menu, one if you pay in cash and a higher price if you use a card. That is unacceptable, because some places will state that there will be a percentage up charge , not for every item. The place was somewhat busy when we arrived, but it was a constant flow of traffic, because they also have a seafood market inside to buy your own. I wasn't noisy at all when we went, not sure what it's like later in the evening. My personal takeaway is it's a nice enjoyable place for the locals, but if you're looking flavorful seafood, look further.
