I really enjoyed the Indian food at this restaurant and was saddened to learn that the owner passed away. I would encourage readers to view the recent one-star reviews in that context. From what I understand, the restaurant closed unexpectedly following the owner's death, and online ordering services may not have been updated immediately. As a result, some customers were still able to place orders even though the restaurant was no longer operating. While I understand the frustration, services such as DoorDash can typically issue refunds, and credit card companies can reverse charges when necessary. It's unfortunate that some of the owner's final reviews were negative because of circumstances beyond his control. Rather than assuming the worst, it's worth considering what may have been happening behind the scenes. Michael's Curry leaf hits the spot! I think most Brit's will agree that the majority of US Indian restaurants don't come close to those back home but perhaps Michael's "Curry Leaf" comes very close! Firstly Michael's business is very much a one man band so how he manages to put out such authentic dishes with just one pair of hands is beyond me. I watched him rolling the Nan bread in front of me, like his life depended on it-- really incredible. I ordered Lamb biriyani -- it came in a nice bowl and was complimented by the Nan bread and some very tasty traditional Indian yogurt and a water for $20. Now this wasn't your plastic stuff which seems to be the order of the day for $20. This was pretty authentic Indian food for which I would have paid more for. Plus the presentation was also very appealing. I'm going to make a habit of coming here because I'd like to test the other dishes on the menu. Michael seems to have a great reputation in the area -- it shows by the number of orders he gets! Quite phenomenal. I've been a regular of Curry Leaf since Sandy had the restaurant at the complex by Vons (pre pandemic). I'm happy that he reopened. The food taste still the same, as good as before. Always love the chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, biryani, Rogan Josh and their naan. They're back to the restaurant style now (they brought their old chairs & tables back). It was a "panda style" when they just reopened. I'm always gonna be a loyal costumer to wherever Sandy opens his restaurant at. Great friendly people. read more

I love the concept of hot bar Indian food to take on the go. Sometimes a person doesn't want to dine in but wants fresh and tasty Indian food to go. This spot is so convenient and delivers on the concept. The Curry Leaf is a new addition to Camarillo. Overheard the owner mentioning he is the same owner who had the former Curry Leaf restaurant up in Mission Oaks. I remember it but had never gone. He seems to be happy and passionate about his new venture bringing tasty Indian food to this side of Camarillo. Walked in and it was busy on a Friday night. Good for them. It actually felt really heartwarming to see that despite being a new business, people are already hearing about this place and lining up to come. Well deserved. I love the open concept kitchen so that you can see the chefs whipping up the food to the side. Love the giant drums that these dishes are cooked in. It smells heavenly inside. The owner was working the hot bar and ringing up customers. Since he was doing both the wait did take a little while as he could only serve one customer at a time. The owner was super friendly and welcoming though. He was all smiles and made me feel like a valued customer despite it being my first time. Very friendly service. Prices were also pretty reasonable. I got a two item plate with rice for only about $19. The portions were so generous! He loaded me up with rice and great helpings of the two dishes I wanted. I also appreciate that they scoop some extra sauce so you'll have sauce to dip your naan in (should you buy it). I left with a grip load of food for under $35. Perfect for a filling meal that you could grab on the go. The food was about 4/5 stars. More so the only issue with a hot bar is the food is out and despite the heat from the trays, the food can still get a little cold or at least room temperature. That was the case with my fried cauliflower bites. The flavor of the cauliflower was incredible! I seriously loved it BUT it was a bit cold and had lost the crunch factor from sitting out. If I had gotten a fresh batch would have been an easy 5 stars. However, the chicken korma and tikka masala were fantastic. Hot and fresh, delicious white meat chicken and fabulous sauces. These are the dishes I'd come back for - really tasty. All in all this place hits the spot. Awesome authentic Indian food with super friendly service and at a reasonable price. One difference from the previous spot is that it seems like ordering is in a chipotle style where you walk through and choose your items a la carte. I think the owner is still working on expanding the menu and working out pricing on some items, but from what I've had I'm impressed so far! For lunch I ordered a bowl of rice with chicken and mushrooms with a side of garlic naan and garlic cauliflower. While there isn't much seating indoors there's plenty of seating outdoors. I ordered things to go. The smells of the food were wonderful. So glad I stopped here on my way home. I thought it was tasty. And good the next day as well. I had a little garlic naan and some saffron rice. And I think things expanded inside my stomach because I was quickly full. Could only eat a third of it. But when I had the leftovers, the flavors had married and were delicious. The guy who served me was very kind and had a great attitude. I think the positivity comes through in the food. I tried calling the number for the restaurant and phone goes straight to a voicemail saying "the number can't take your call right now", not even one ring! This place was great. Great customer service. I got the lunch special and portions were good for the price and the food tasted amazing. The seating area was straight forward but comfortable. Right when I walked in I could smell the amazing spices in the air. I also liked the Indian music playing in the background. I love supporting small businesses and this will be one I'll now frequent often. As far as the wait goes I got my food about 10 minutes after ordering which I thought was reasonable. so glad the curry leaf is back in camarillo, and now in the panda express kind of scoop-and-go style. you can choose to order individual items alacarte (curries in small, medium, and large containers) or opt to get a bowl that includes rice and one curry or a plate that includes rice and two curries. i will say that the pricing is not very clear for anything--there is zero signage or indication until you are swiping. i got two large curries: veggie korma and chicken tikka masala, and they came out to be $15 each. there is a fair selection of vegetarian items, but today's menu only had chicken in terms of meat. the cashier did mention that the menu changes every day. the veggie korma is not too salty, slightly sweet, and kind of tastes like corn soup. not the curry-flavor i was looking for but packed with a fair amount of vegetables. the chicken tikka masala is flavorful and saucy--would definitely recommend! garlic cauliflower, however, is unfortunately a skip. priced at almost $12, the portion size is a bit disappointing, especially when the server ran out of cauliflower while scooping our order and didn't wait for the refill before giving us our order. there is no seating inside, but the patio has tables and chairs. really glad to see how many customers are there and supporting; just hoping to see clearer pricing in the future. read more

My experience was extremely disappointing. The food quality fell far below acceptable standards, particularly when it came to the meat dishes. I ordered the chicken tikka masala and rogan josh. The meat pieces were tough and chewy. They had a sign posted for help wanted in the kitchen which might be the problem. I have been here 3 times now. The food is excellent! I like how it's clear which have dairy as I can't eat it. They now have a few tables inside so we were able to sit and eat. The food here is amazing. The cauliflower... the cheese naan, the tandoori chicken everything hits! The only issue I have here is they have no posted prices and you don't have any idea how much anything is until check out. They need to post some prices. What has happened to this place? Since the guy discontinued the buffet it's ridiculous. One person doing everything but he can't cook when working the counter for orders. He says 20 minutes to fix a dish. Who can wait 20 minutes which turned into 30. Sad because it was always busy when he had the buffet. Now it's dead. read more

Right now they don't have any menu menu printed, and the format is cafeteria style like panda express. But the chicken korma and chicken tiki masala were outstanding, even if the prices don't reflect it being taken out. Because there's no menu yet it's hard to know what other options they have for à la cart, family meals or anything else like that. I'm dropping my dad off at two trees, the physical therapy he recently had knee surgery. And I just kept smelling the most delicious smell, and it was the curry leaf ! So I checked out their yelp reviews, and they were all five stars and pleasant customers happy that they reopened. So I had to check them out. The Curry Leaf is BACK! Thank God. I was going through withdrawals while he was gone. Curry Leaf is like a Camarillo treasure. Sandi is in the kitchen and allowing a great job. Many of the classics are available and I think she's working on expanding the menu. His new place is in a great location and very nice looking. Patio dining is available. Curry Leaf has only been open a few weeks and I've been there three times already.... But n fact, I'm going to go now. Sadly, this is nothing like the original Curry Leaf in the Vons shopping complex. There is no menu and no pricing anywhere. The curry sauces were good. But the diced chicken breast in the curry was overcooked and dried out. Everything is sitting out, so the rice and the naan were also dried out. I ended up throwing most of it away. read more
