    Chicken Korma & Tikka Masala

I love the concept of hot bar Indian food to take on the go. Sometimes a person doesn't want to dine in but wants fresh and tasty Indian food to go. This spot is so convenient and delivers on the concept. The Curry Leaf is a new addition to Camarillo. Overheard the owner mentioning he is the same owner who had the former Curry Leaf restaurant up in Mission Oaks. I remember it but had never gone. He seems to be happy and passionate about his new venture bringing tasty Indian food to this side of Camarillo. Walked in and it was busy on a Friday night. Good for them. It actually felt really heartwarming to see that despite being a new business, people are already hearing about this place and lining up to come. Well deserved. I love the open concept kitchen so that you can see the chefs whipping up the food to the side. Love the giant drums that these dishes are cooked in. It smells heavenly inside. The owner was working the hot bar and ringing up customers. Since he was doing both the wait did take a little while as he could only serve one customer at a time. The owner was super friendly and welcoming though. He was all smiles and made me feel like a valued customer despite it being my first time. Very friendly service. Prices were also pretty reasonable. I got a two item plate with rice for only about $19. The portions were so generous! He loaded me up with rice and great helpings of the two dishes I wanted. I also appreciate that they scoop some extra sauce so you'll have sauce to dip your naan in (should you buy it). I left with a grip load of food for under $35. Perfect for a filling meal that you could grab on the go. The food was about 4/5 stars. More so the only issue with a hot bar is the food is out and despite the heat from the trays, the food can still get a little cold or at least room temperature. That was the case with my fried cauliflower bites. The flavor of the cauliflower was incredible! I seriously loved it BUT it was a bit cold and had lost the crunch factor from sitting out. If I had gotten a fresh batch would have been an easy 5 stars. However, the chicken korma and tikka masala were fantastic. Hot and fresh, delicious white meat chicken and fabulous sauces. These are the dishes I'd come back for - really tasty. All in all this place hits the spot. Awesome authentic Indian food with super friendly service and at a reasonable price. I will definitely be back.

~ HOTNTOGO, HOT (NAAN) TO GO ~ Been waiting for this spot to open back up and am so happy it did! The curry leaf is now open for lunch and dinner. One difference from the previous spot is that it seems like ordering is in a chipotle style where you walk through and choose your items a la carte. I think the owner is still working on expanding the menu and working out pricing on some items, but from what I've had I'm impressed so far! For lunch I ordered a bowl of rice with chicken and mushrooms with a side of garlic naan and garlic cauliflower. While there isn't much seating indoors there's plenty of seating outdoors. Excited to drop by again and try more items!

I ordered things to go. The smells of the food were wonderful. So glad I stopped here on my way home. I thought it was tasty. And good the next day as well. I had a little garlic naan and some saffron rice. And I think things expanded inside my stomach because I was quickly full. Could only eat a third of it. But when I had the leftovers, the flavors had married and were delicious. The guy who served me was very kind and had a great attitude. I think the positivity comes through in the food. I recommend trying this place. A very good local to go option.

I'm so glad we have this delicious Indian food restaurant in Camarillo. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Eggplant and Potatoes were amazing as was the Garlic Cauliflower and Spicy Garlic Naan. I hope to try everything on the menu.

The potato was spiced and flavorful and the Naan was cooked perfectly, piping hot but soft. The rice was great. The Chicken Makhani was very bland. I'm a huge fan of butter chicken and this one didn't deliver. It was creamy but almost bitter. The spice (heat) level was perfect (medium), but the flavor was so off I didn't end up finishing the dish. Like I said bitter and not the creamy slightly sweet, rich flavor I'm used to. Disappointing because I had high hopes for this place being a local spot. The staff was very friendly and helpful. They were great to deal with. And maybe it was just an off day, I just don't know. I'll be back and try another such soon and see if that changes my mind. But for now, just unimpressed.

The "Taste of Punjab", in Moorpark, was an over 20-mile one way trip for me from the SFV. If you…read morelike North Indian food, it is my opinion that the state of Punjab in India (and I have spent time there), provides food preparations that are a notch above the rest of its Indian state counterparts (e.g. Uttarkhand, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh). So I called the restaurant to fine tune. Their lunch buffet was only on Fridays. The spread would only contain 3 meat selections, all of them chicken (really, no variety?) and only 3 vegetable choices (really, is that all?) Then an appetizer, salad components and condiments. There would be rice and Naan too. A meager set of choices for a $15.99 buffet? Yet, the restaurant was enticing. Hence the pull, to taste their version, of Punjabi food. That sealed the deal for me and I was on my way to pay a visit, and eat. As expected, the choices were limited. There was chicken tikka, chicken tandoori and chicken curry. For vegetables, aloo bhegan (potatoes and eggplant), peas paneer (peas with sautéed Indian cheese cubes) and dahl (lentil curry). The Naan was not brought fresh table-side, but delivered to the hot case. Still, it was soft and wonderful, actually well executed, had good chew, cut into medium sized pieces. Rice came out in small portions in a bowl and was not dry (unlike other buffets). For appetizers, they had one choice, good sized samosas with a thin wrapping (also unlike other buffets) and a simple ,but very tasty and moist potato filling. They were truly fantastic (I had 4 of them, a first for me!). That too, came out, as needed. Like it should be. For me, this is also a sign of thoughtful food management, to provide just prepared items, to enhance freshness, cut down on wastage. On the condiment side though, there were disappointments. The tamarind chutney was watery and their mint chutney thick, and from a bottle. Not fresh. Raita was creamy, with body and wholesome. What was striking at the Taste of Punjab, was the unmistakable high quality and culinary prowess of the chef(s). Every dish oozed with freshness, aroma, rich flavor and an intoxicating blend of well married spices and taste. The three chicken dishes were tender, with soft meat having a perfect texture to satisfy. Overall, every selection on the buffet was unique because, it felt and tasted so different. High class, is the best way to describe it. I was really amazed and blown away. Was also pleased, that my relentless hunger, curiosity and the lengthy drive here to Moorpark, had borne sweet fruit. It was a reward. Definitely, a Punjabi lunch buffet to remember, for a very long time.

There are plenty of small quick bites and chaat (hot and cold snacks) to pick. I was informed by the staff in about two weeks they will be rolling out they're larger northern India dishes, and platters, so stay tuned...And of course, they have cases upon cases of desserts. Here is what I would recommend: Chhole Bhature - MY FAVORITE DISH. Fluffy, golden-brown bhature (deep-fried bread) paired with a perfectly spiced chhole (chickpea curry) total comfort food. Pani Puri Atta - a more popular street food, are perfectly crisp and golden fried puris waiting for you to fill with potato, chickpeas and sauce. For dessert my absolute favorite small bite is their Kaju Apple sweet treat. Trust me. It's a 10/10 and the inside filling was so fun, I felt like a kid again. It was magical...Some honorable mentions would be their Pink Karachi Halwa (think a sweet thick gummy treat) and their Malai roll. The inside is spacious, with simple elegant tables, each having their own menu. All restaurants should do so. One wall depicts the history and expansion of this brand. I stopped by for a snack and chose the Dahi Puri. What was unique here was, that there were shreds of beetroot on top and one pomegranate seed in the middle of each puri (you get 6 of them for $9.99). As such, a bite gives you a burst of flavors, both spicy and sweet, a cool degree of wetness, then crispness from the outer shell, and a blend of inner softness and medium textures from the ingredients.
