As locals, we've made "The Wolf" our favorite go-to eatery for quite some time. My wife and I often go there for lunch, my days off make mid week lunches an excellent chance to enjoy some of our favorite menu items when the crowds aren't quite so large and the service is always outstanding at the bar or a table. Everything on their menu is simply wonderful. I could write a book, praising our experiences there, but suffice to say we have NEVER had a less than stellar meal. Reading other customer's reviews reinforces our feeling that you won't find better food in our area. The atmosphere is always home-town friendly, clever and novel ways of promoting their fare, we just love it. And, the "Spicy Ukrainian" dressing got a big grin out of both of us. read more

Food was good, service was good (considering that it was crowded) took a very long time to get our food. We ate on the patio and there in lies the problem. Unfortunately there was a "musician" playing a guitar and other instruments right next to the patio VERY LOUDLY! When we said something to the server he just dismissed us and mumbled something about it being a public sidewalk. I have submitted many reviews over several years and try to be positive. Bison was tender and juicy. Ask for more sauce on side. Walleye po boy was good, but probably could have used 1 more chunk of fish. Nice options for vegetarian or GF. Wow! This was fabulous! Food, service, and environment were all amazing! There are several choices of beer and hard cider on tap. I went for the Ace Space and it was so good! I don't typically enjoy ciders, but felt adventurous today. Onion rings for an appetizer were perfect. Thick cut onions fried in light batter...mmmm. Kids both ordered chicken strips and fries. Again, fried perfectly. The chicken strips were large and juicy. Hubby went for their special tonight, spicy rice and veggies. I took a sample and it had tremendous flavor but boy did it have a kick at the end. I opted for chicken Alfredo sans tomato. Chicken was lemon pepper flavor and the sauce was thinner than I anticipated. The noodles had large bacon chunks. Topped with shaved Parmesan. So GOOD! Pleasantly surprised to find this excellent restaurant in Custer, South Dakota! I am usually not a great fan of sandwiches but the Wolleye Po'Boy sandwich along with their daily special soup was excellent. It was served on a hoagie topped with perfectly fried white fish, coleslaw, pickles, & their special homemade sauce. It was so delicious . The staff was very friendly & we were seated immediately. From start to finish, this place is highly recommended! The Host was a problem solver and accommodating to all. They found an alternative option for each person waiting for a table. Waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. Food was amazing! Chicken tenders were lightly breaded to perfection and fries were plump! Mini corn dogs were great too. Our go to place at least once per week. Everything is cooked from scratch so not a bad thing on the menu. Noticed recent bad review so went in to see if something had changed. So happy to find the food was still top notch, had the Fish and Chips filled me which is usual with any of their meals. Had my nieces daughter with me so we shared the Bread Pudding which was great as expected. In the land of burgers and beer, The Custer Wolf is a splendid oasis. We scored a table on the patio for an early dinner and enjoyed the shaded private space off the main drag in Custer. At our server's suggestion, we started with the Cowboy Caviar, which was a fresh and tasty version of salsa. The tortilla chips were the not so tasty chips reminiscent of cheap gas station nachos, but they worked as a vessel for the delicious homemade salsa. Dinner was a BCJ burger for the teenager, a deconstructed shredded buffalo sandwich for the husband and the gluten-free sweet potato flatbread for me. The portions were generous and the dudes were happy with the burger and buffalo, but the best surprise of the meal was the flatbread. Good gluten-free crust is hard to find and this crust was totally spot on. Great subtle sweet potato flavor, crunch and substantial enough to pick up and eat by the slice if you're so inclined. The toppings were innovative, plentiful and an absolutely delicious combo. It was definitely entree sized as promised and I actually needed help to finish it off. The wait list got very long as we ate our dinner, so come early, get a spot on the list, and then take a walk around town. After a day at the National Parks, you'll be super happy with the chill dining atmosphere, good service (thanks dude with the Keith Haring socks) and the delicious fresh food. read more

I'd give it zero stars. Terrible food. I got the flatbread pizza and it was disgusting, chicken was all cartilage and burnt $14.00. My family got the fish and chips 19.00 each. Serving size was for a toddler. 2 fried fish, the tartar sauce was watery and gross. Definitely not worth 19.00$. Everyone was raving about the bread pudding, so decided to try it. That was like biting into sugar cubes. Couldn't even taste the bread pudding. No I would not recommend it. read more

I have been to Custer Wolf twice now, and will definitely be returning. I loved the freshness and flavor of my food both times. I had a steak special during restaurant week and my steak was over-cooked. I order my meat rare, and expect it with a cool red center. Since moving to SD I have learned to tell them "VERY rare" or even "Blue" if I want it even close to rare. So that is what I did, and it was still medium rare to medium. It had good flavor. The server agreed it was overdone, but I kept it and ate it because they were super busy and I didn't want to wait and eat after my family was done. Yesterday I got a pasta dish with chicken, and the flavor of the sauce was amazing. However, my chicken was charred on the outside and dry inside. Both visits my meat has been overdone. So, if you are picky about the temperature of your meat be sure to communicate that in full. My husband loves every seafood dish he has had there. I do not eat seafood so I can just relay that he is a huge fan and says it is perfect. We love the atmosphere and the service has been great. I appreciate that they allow their customers to chose to wear masks or not. I know some people prefer businesses to wear them, so if that is you, you will really be happy about this fact. For our family, we prefer open faces and unmuffled communication, but I would not judge a business (or person) based on their choice and doing what they feel is best. read more

Absolutely loved this place. I had the walleye chermoula and a cup of their soup du jour which was creamy mushroom and both were insanely delicious. The kids had chicken tenders and could not keep quiet about how they were the best tenders they'd ever had, even told the waiter to tell the chef that they loved him. Went in at 4:30 hoping for a good meal and my Guinness. Ordered the Pub sandwich. Waiter informed that they were out of that item. So I settled on the BBQ on Flat bread. Went next door to shop a bit before the meal came only to have my wife call and tell me I needed to come back and look over the menu they were out of the flatbread item as well. So since I'm only a two strike kind of guy I just elected to stay with the Guinness. The waiter was nice and very apologetic but seriously folks. If your going to be open on a Monday you would think you would supply your kitchen with food to prepare. Not sure I'll go back. read more
