Both the food and service were great. I highly recommend giving this new venue a try.

We got close and Waze had us make a turn on Harris street and my wife panicked. It did not look like a journey meant for us. I proceeded to our destination and the parking lot was packed. We walked in and were greeted and seated. It was a hot day and it was open air seating. It took our bodies about 15 minutes to adjust, and become comfortable. Our server was Edward aka Bubba. He was very personable, knowledgeable, and efficient. We ordered the fried pickles as an appetizer, and were given a very generous portion. Bubba also added a complimentary crawfish and grits dish that was awesome. My wife ordered the fried catfish , and ordered the blackened Mahi. Both dishes were prepared to perfection, and presented tastefully. We received our order in a very reasonable time. We wanted dessert but they were out. Check this out though, when they do have dessert it is on the house. At Pop's Place the prices are very fair, the portions are over the top, and the service was on point and very hospitable. If you are in Texarkana I highly recommend Pop's Place.

Hi. Um. Okay. So... yeah. I came in around 11:00 pm because…read moreI was, you know, trying to see if there was live music or, like, a vibe. Not drunk. Not loud. Just standing there. Hydrated. Existing. At first it was cool. I met a couple of young guys. Super nice. Totally normal human interaction. We talked. It was fine. No problems. Excellent. Then they left. And, uh... yeah. Everything got weird. Like... record scratch weird. No bartender came over. No eye contact. No "hey man, what can I get you?" Just a lot of standing and looking past me like I was a ghost or maybe a very calm ghost. I tried to make casual conversation, because that's what people do in bars. And suddenly the room felt tense. Like I had accidentally walked into a staff meeting or a crime scene. At some point it hit me. Oh. They think I'm a cop. Not because I did anything. But because I was standing upright. And sober. And aware. Which, apparently, after 11 pm here is suspicious behavior. For the record, I am not law enforcement. I am just a guy who is cold and trying to hear music. I wasn't kicked out. I wasn't served. I was just... ignored. Like if they pretended I didn't exist long enough, I might fade away. So I left. Nothing dramatic happened. It was just awkward. Uncomfortable. And kind of impressive in a sad way. I walked into a bar and accidentally became a vibe check the place failed itself. This might work great for regulars or a younger crowd earlier in the night. But if you are a grown adult who knows how to behave in public, you may suddenly find yourself labeled "possibly undercover." Party on. I guess.

Strolling into Texarkana in the middle of a downpour after missing hot meals for about 48 hours,…read moreyou'd think that almost any warm food substance would do, right? Wrong. Judging by the exterior, you'd think that this place has "Classy-with-a-capital-C" written all over it. Palms, supper-club blinds, red carpet, etc. Inside however, there's a Hee Haw revival that would rebel yell the Brahmin out of a Cabot or a Lowell. This may be the New Englander in me, but if you're going to be a SEA food restaurant, don't you think you ought to serve food from the OCEAN? In land-locked Arkansas, if you don't have food from the ocean on your menu, then don't call it Seafood, k? If I want an All-You-Can-Eat catfish fry, I'll hit up a local Pentecostal or someplace that bills itself as a FISH place. Catfish come from rivers and lakes - places with fresh water. Oh, and their nachos are terrible. I made some "bachelor nachos" last Super Bowl that blew them out of the water in terms of culinary skill. Frankly, Pier 51's "signature nachos" made my drunkenly-made plate of chips, canned salsa, and microwave-melted slices of American cheese looked like something from Escoffier's recipe box. Pier 51's decor makes it even more the restaurant version of an "Over the Pants Hand Job". Delightful framed nautical paintings next to classic photographs of Rockport, MA's Motif Number 9 are all threads in the tapestry of lies that Pier 51 weaves for its guests. Service, yeah, lets talk about service. If I wanted to hear about short-term stints in military prison coupled with overly descriptive ventures in feminine hygiene, I'd start getting drinks in the employee women's rooms at any Home Depot. Instead, I'd like all discussions of anyone's crotchal problems are relegated to code or inaudible sotto voices - I'd also like to get my next beer before I start sobering up from the previous one. The lovely "ladies" behind the bar are also keen on closing the bar early, then reopening it, then closing it again. The menus (which were in Middle School report covers) indicated that the place (which was still full of people) stayed open until an hour or so later than the staff indicated it did. Once again, I'm certain this place stays in business due to a lack of better options.

Decided on the wedge salad and the Baja Tacos. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen but my tacos are delivered to my table BEFORE the salad, when I asked about the salad the lady said it should be out "soon" {sigh}. A few minutes later the salad arrives while I was looking disappointedly at the tacos. I even asked Abby if this was the normal amount of meat provided on the tacos and she said yes...oh well. Salad was OK, a bit drowned in Blue Cheese dressing but it was an OK salad. The tacos...totally missed the mark. They were supposed to be "3 flour tortillas filled with grilled & blackened red fish, topped with slaw and cilantro cream". There was basically one "fish nugget"...inadequate, the "blackened" was more like tanned so no blackened flavors, while the cilantro cream didn't do anything to improve the dish. I guess I could have sent it back but I combined one into the other two to make them a bit more like a meal. Service from Abby was good, but overall not a huge fan of this meal.

Wow, wow, wow! A truly fantastic meal!…read more Our first impressions walking in weren't super great due to an unfriendly hostess, but everything else was amazing. She just stared at us as we walked in, no welcome, and not a single bit of souther hospitality that I expect from a small town establishment. The food was superb, though! My husband and I both ordered the wedge salad and the chicken capres. The chicken was sous-vide with cherry tomatoes, spinach, mozzarella cheese, balsamic glaze, and fresh basil. Plus it was gluten free! Omg, the most tender and juicy chicken I think I've ever had! I chose the grilled okra as my side and I was not disappointed. The Twisted fork is a great, laid-back place for some classic southern-inspired food!
