Overall, I have mixed feelings of this place. Food was delicious once we finally received it. It took around 45 minutes to an hour after we arrived to get our food. The service was great and the remodeling of the restaurant into the steakhouse turned out really nice. They do table side salads, entrees and desserts. We chose to order a standard meal. I would like to give this place another chance in the near future. Maybe it was an off night. read more

We went as a group of 20 for their prix fix New Years Eve dinner. The food was good but not great. The amuse bouche was very good. The 1st course was a choice of the foie gras (good but had an inordinate amount of fig jam on top) or escargot (very good). The second course was French onion soup or Niçoise salad. Both were very good. The third course was a choice of poached sole with hollandaise (the hollandaise was extremely spicy and way over powered the delicate sole. The sole was cooked until it was mushy) or roasted chicken in brown sauce (some were very good and others were dry and overcooked). The fourth course was roasted marrow bones with golden raisins and brie with lingonberry. Good but very rich. The fifth course was beef bourguinon that was excellent. For dessert we had crepe Suzette's that were okay but very sweet and paired with an extremely sweet ice wine. Too much sweet on sweet. Some hot bread and butter, others didn't. Same with water, some glasses were empty and never filled. Overall it was way too much food for me. It said $150 all inclusive so we assumed that meant tax and tip was included. We were wrong. When we got the bill they added tax and 20% gratuity. Then on top of that they charged 3% for paying with a credit card. It ended up being a $400 dinner. That was more than we anticipated in Virginia City. Additionally, apparently they ran out of one of the wines and some people were offered a different one and then got charged $20/glass for it. All in all, it was fun (more because of the company than the experience), the food was mostly good and the atmosphere was nice and service was okay. I felt bad for other couples trying to have a romantic NYE dinner and having to sit next to a group of 20. We'll choose a different location next year. read more

We dined at The Sawdust Corner Steakhouse for New Year's Eve dinner with a large group of 20 people. Our group booked months in advance and responsibly kept the restaurant updated as our party size changed, which the staff appreciated. We were eager to attend and had been looking forward to the evening, especially once the special holiday menu was released. Unfortunately, the prix fixe menu was not published until just days before New Year's Eve. It was a six-course, classic French-style menu with wine pairings at $150 per person. While the menu sounded interesting, nearly every course was meat-based, with the exception of the salad and dessert. We had one vegetarian in our group, so I immediately called to ask about accommodations. I left multiple messages (including on the private number provided for event coordination), but never received a callback prior to the holiday. Given the cost and formality of the meal, this lack of communication felt unprofessional and disappointing. On the night of dinner, our table was ready, and we were seated promptly. Service overall was attentive and friendly, though not without flaws. Despite asking for water multiple times throughout the evening, I never received any and ultimately had to get my own from the Delta Saloon bar next door. As for the food, the quality was mixed and the portions were extremely large--so much so that most of us could not finish courses four through six and took food home. While generous portions aren't a bad thing, the overall heaviness of the meal made it difficult to enjoy the full experience. Highlights included the Niçoise salad, which was beautifully plated and delicious, and the bone marrow, which was rich and well-served as a shared dish. The foie gras was tasty but overwhelmed by an excessive amount of fig jam, throwing off the balance and making an already rich dish even heavier. The sole with hollandaise was a major disappointment. The fish was mushy and completely drowned in an unusually spicy hollandaise that overpowered the dish. I barely touched it. By the time the beef bourguignon arrived, I was already uncomfortably full, though what I did taste was good. Dessert was crêpes suzette, which I had never had before. While interesting, it was extremely sweet and saturated in butter--two bites were more than enough. One particularly baffling moment was the bread service: butter was served with olive oil poured directly over it. This combination was unnecessary and unappealing--one or the other would have sufficed. Financial transparency was another major issue. During wine service, our server continued refilling glasses. When one of the paired wines ran out, she casually replaced it with another Sauvignon Blanc without mentioning that it would be an additional charge. When the bill arrived, we were shocked to see $20 per glass added for this wine. This was never communicated, and given the menu advertised the dinner as "all inclusive," this felt inappropriate. Additionally, gratuity was added automatically, which is fine--but should have been clearly stated upfront. To make matters worse, a 3% credit card processing fee was added without any prior notice. For a table of 20 at this price point, it's unreasonable to expect guests to pay in cash or be surprised by hidden fees. By the end of the night, each guest paid $210 or more, depending on extra wine charges. Our vegetarian guest was charged $75 for three simple dishes and unlimited beer (since she doesn't drink wine), plus gratuity--an amount that felt excessive for what was provided. Ultimately, while some dishes were enjoyable, the meal was overwhelmingly rich, poorly communicated, and riddled with unexpected charges. I ended up with a stomachache severe enough to leave the New Year's Eve festivities early. Our group visits Virginia City every New Year's Eve. Last year we dined at the Gold Hill Hotel and had a wonderful meal with clear pricing and no surprises. Next year, we'll be returning there--or opting for a more casual, reliable spot like Red Dog or the Palace. I would strongly recommend The Sawdust Corner improve transparency around pricing and fees, publish special menus earlier, and consider offering a regular menu alongside prix fixe options. Went here for the second time and it was amazing! Our server Danielle was amazing and took good care of us. The decor and ambiance is wonderful. We were able to meet the GM and executive chef Stephen Canepa. What a nice and welcoming man, he made sure to stop at each table and greet and talk with guest to make sure everything was perfect. He made everyone feel welcomed and like family. Now for the food Stephen takes pride in his dishes and it shows. The taste and quality are top notch. The steaks melt in your mouth, the clam chowder is an experience of its own. It's that good. Even the house cocktails are made with a special touch. If you want a super dining experience please give this steak house a try. read more

Really mixed feelings on my recent experience here. Yes I did make reservations. Unfortunately the only time on a Saturday night after the Rocky Mountain Oyster Festival was 8:30 pm. So first suggestion is to try the Sawdust when there is nothing going on in town. Our party of six was seated 10 minutes late. Menus, waters, and fresh bread arrived promptly. We ordered, then our waitress Sierra returned to let us know there was no more Steak Diane. Quite the disappointment, especially when we saw the table nearby get it prepared table side. Our order was placed in the kitchen shortly after 9 pm. The food didn't start coming to the table until 10 minutes of 10pm. Needless to say at this point in the evening we were starved and a couple in the group really needed some food, as they enjoyed a few drinks during the afternoon. Sierra saw the table was getting restless, and we noticed she went into the kitchen several times to check on the dishes. Here's my second disappointment- we saw what looked like two members of management sitting with two other tables of guest. At that point it would have been nice if one of them would have checked on our table or got up and went into the kitchen to expedite some food. Food arrives- the first steak is almost well done not medium rare. Not edible and now too late to send back. The pork chop I would highly recommend. It was properly cooked and well seasoned. The Elk chop was also a fantastic winner. Great flavor and a perfect medium rare. I believe the other steak may have been a bit of a disappointment. The mac n cheese was devine, the entire table loved it. The baked potato was large enough for three people. Brussel sprouts were ok. I didn't really get much feed back on the crab cakes, as by the time they arrived that diner was too tired to eat. The complimentary bread was fluffy and warm. Sierra was quick to get us glasses and open the bottle of wine we brought in. Overall- some dishes were absolutely delicious and others a bit of a fail. Sierra really tried her best. But I saw management letting the staff down by ignoring the situation. The steak was not removed from the bill, it should have been. Sierra did wave the $25 corkage and sent out a couple of desserts. The interior was well done. Like stepping back in time. The rose flowered wallpaper. Hardwood floors. White trimmed grand staircase to the side. Subtle decor of old pictures and other memorabilia. Limited street parking every where in VC, but the small town is very walkable. You try and let me know, I'm still on the fence. If I return I will go on a slow night and way earlier in the evening. read more

The food was delicious. The service was questionable at best. The menu...too busy. I understand this is a newer restaurant and they've had issues keeping staff. This review isn't meant to steer anyone away as their food, truly was delicious...but to help the restaurant streamline their service. I got reservations for a Friday night in September. It's a small restaurant as there are only about 15 tables. The atmosphere is great; with the tin tile roof, warm red walls and vintage western lamps. The hostess/server immediately apologized before we even sat down..stating the kitchen was backed up. We were a group of three, with approximately 10 other patrons already in the space. We assumed that perhaps their was only one cook??? The menu was cluttered. They had this odd, table side service option but instead of having it be a three course menu option, it was itemized. Get rid of that option. It's not a gourmet place and it has too much of a nickel and dime feel to it. Also, if you truly have only one cook, it makes ZERO sense for them to be at someone's table making their food. When they could be in the back, making all the food. The steaks were all priced individual with sides an additional cost (with the exception of the prime rib)...again, streamline this. Factor in the cost of a side dish within the price of the meal. Again, Don't nickel and dime people. The wait, took a LONG time; about a hour before our food finally arrived. We also ordered a bottle of wine with our meal, which also took significantly longer to get than it should have. All in all, if you have a night to spend and want some good food in with a vintage vibe, try this place. But don't expect grand service; cause they're not there...yet. read more

The hostess went above and beyond to ensure we were happy and taken care of. Our server, Haven, was very attentive, professional, and gave excellent recommendations and customer service. We Went to Virginia city and were treated to a soft opening of the Sawdust Steakhouse. What a delight from the moment we entered this beautiful restaurant. We were greeted by awesome staff who attended to our every need. When the food arrived it did not disappoint. I had the salmon and it was perfection with crispy salmon skin on the bottom with a lemon sauce. The crab cakes were off the hook wonderful. We all enjoyed a great meal left content. it was all top-notch including our wait person Felicia, and our bus person Karen they were fabulous. The wine selection and full bar was also enjoyed by us. We made reservations for the steakhouse as we stayed overnight during the weekend in Virginia city. It was our wedding anniversary. A few things - the service was great, the food is very tasty. You have to get the crabcakes! This is a must it literally melts in your mouth. The bomb!! I ordered prime rib dinner and my husband ordered the ribeye. Both are really good, but the prime rib had a lot of fat on it enough for where probably take a couple ounces off of the cut. The ribeye doesn't come with any sides so those are extra. My prime rib came with two extra sides that were included in the price. I'm not sure why they wouldn't include sides with the ribeye and not the prime rib. That doesn't make any sense to me. This place was a little overpriced in my opinion, especially when we have had some excellent steak at other places for less price with sides included. My husband is a meat and potato guy so we know this very well. Also, we had one drink each. Mine was so strong. I couldn't even finish it. The atmosphere is nice inside though. It's definitely a good special occasion place because of the prices. read more

Thursday night 4 tables with a hostess and 2 servers, ordered appetizers, salad and entree. 30 min wait for 1 doz oysters on halfshell, then 15 min after picking up oysters salad came, entrees came out about 20 min after salads were removed, prime rib tasted wonderful but was not even warm, steak w/lobster was ok but again on the cold side. Not sure if the food sat for awhile before getting to us but it was very disappointing. Water was never refilled, dessert was not offered. Did notice people that arrived after us received their food before we did, their server seemed very attentive. $200 disappointment When we dined there in March we both had primerib and service and food were amazing. My husband and I were invited to join some friends for dinner. When you walk in you are in a beautiful old bar, then you go through the door into the dining room which is beautifully decorated, you can tell they put a lot of money into it. Unfortunately, the food fell short. We were told that they were limited on items because they get limited deliveries. My husband ordered the ground wagyu steak, when it finally came an hour later it was a dry tasteless hamburger patty on a huge slop of mashed potatoes, in fact, one of our friends ordered the pork chops and they were also served on a huge slop of mashed potato. I had the Sea bass which was good although very small, it came with broccoli which tasted very strange so I didn't eat it. I ordered a side of Brussel sprouts which were tasteless. My husband commented that we would have made better food at home. The supposed "head chef" who was little more than a head cook was too busy preparing a flambé dessert table side than making sure food was being served. All in all we were very disappointed. I love good food when it is prepared correctly and am willing to wait and pay good money but when it comes out and tastes ok to poor, we will not be returning. read more

I know that they are fairly new, but there is no excuse for the dinner we had on Saturday night. The ambience is nice and the room was fairly full. The hostess was very pleasant and had us sit at the bar while she got our table ready after about 10 minutes. She came and got us and seated us at our table. We were immediately greeted by the Buss boy who offered us still sparkling or house water and brought us bread. It was probably 20 minutes before we saw our server who began our conversation with everything that they were either out of or could not make for the night. This was at 7 PM. We ordered some wine and waited for her to come back almost 20 minutes later she came back with her wine and asked if we had decided on any appetizers we ordered our appetizers which arrived about 45 minutes later so at this time we had been there for almost an hour and a half. I had the crabcakes with a whiskey remoulade which were good. My friend had the shrimp cocktail which was chewy and tough. My wife had a salad That she thought was fairly bland and my friend's wife had an appetizer that she was not impressed with. Our Best boy returned about 20 minutes later refilled our water and cleared our plates. It was at least another 20 minutes before our server arrived to find out what we wanted to have for dinner so we had been there for over two hours now we thought about just calling it a night and leaving Since it was after 9 PM but we went ahead and ordered. I had the prime rib my friend had the double cut Kobuta pork chop my friend's wife had the Seabass and my wife had another type of salad. It took almost an hour and a half for our food to arrive at this time it was 1030 when we began eating my prime rib was Cooked, medium rare, but had a little to no flavor. My friend pork chop was literally raw in the middle so he was unable to eat it his wife Seabass was extremely overcooked, and my wife's salad was unremarkable. The server apologized about long periods of time when we had no service. She seemed to be very confused. She offered to pay for our desserts and pay for our wine. It was now 11 PM. She made us say bananas Foster plum Bay, which was literally the sweetest thing I may have ever had as a flambé. I will not be going back anytime soon. It's a very nice restaurant and I hope that they can get their act together and get some food out at decent times and maybe do some better food. read more

Everything was fabulous, from start to finish. They did an excellent job decorating, the restaurant is beautiful. Severs and hosting staff are very friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Cocktails are creative, nice wine options available, several beer options available as well. You begin with freshly baked bread service, which is easy to fill up on because it's delicious. We ordered crab cakes and a wedge salad to start, crab cakes were very flavorful and had an impressive amount of crab in them vs some places that have more filler than meat. We each ordered a steak, cooked to a perfect medium rare. Steak presentation was lovely, served on very hot plates with roasted garlic on the side, delivered on a food cart like a traditional high-end steakhouse. Side of mushrooms were very flavorful. Love Stardust. We had the most amazing dinner there last night and our wedding was catered with them at Delta. Steven is our man. Very professional, fun and outstanding at making everything wonderful. I can not say enough good things about him. It was nice that my whole wedding party gave my husband and I compliments on the food and sincerely impressed. Everyone in the restaurant was very professional and we love Steven the food and beverage manager. I think that's his title not sure.
