My Son asked me to find a Restaurant that we could all go to on Father's Day, so after an extensive search online I came up with 3 nearby Restaurants that I've never been to! The River House in Portsmouth, Tuna Striker Pub on Seabrook Harbor and lastly The Deck in Salisbury overlooking the Merrimack River and Newburyport Harbor! He chose The Deck in Salisbury and I agreed bc it's in a great location with beautiful views! When we got there their Parking Lot was full but they had additional parking across Rt.1 where they offered a golf cart shuttle to the Restaurant! We decided to just walk over! The Deck was very busy probably bc it's Father's Day! We were seated at a high top table, enjoyed the views and were amazed at the number of staff they had maneuvering around the tables, with precision I might add, delivering food to the tables! It was quite an impressive sight! Our Waitress was very pleasant, welcomed us and was attentive throughout our visit! There were six of us and we chose the following menu items...My Daughter in Law chose the "Caprese Salad w/grilled Chicken, the Grand Children had a Cheeseburger and the oldest a Lobster Roll, his favorite, which by the way can be ordered warm w/Butter MKT Price which our Waitress said was $48, it seems to be the going price right now in better restaurants! It was a decent portion of Lobster meat! My significant other and Son both opted for the fried Scallops , hers with Onion Rings, which were fried in a light batter and tasty, his with Fries! The Scallops were excellent, fried in a light batter and delicious! I chose the "Deck Blues Burger" which was one of the best Burgers I've ever had and grilled medium to perfection! My friend and I dropped by around 7:00 PM on a Friday night and the place was popping. We put our names down on the list and were told it would take an hour to be seated. We first went up to the 21+ bar area on the top deck where they were playing live music. It was too crowded and loud for me, so we went down to the bar downstairs. Our bartender was nice and got us our drinks right away. I got the SOBER STRAWBERRY drink which was fine just a bit too tart for me. After only around 20 or so minutes we got a text that our table was ready so we went over to grab it. When we sat down, service unfortunately took a turn and it took forever to get our orders in, get our food, etc. We ordered a few items to share: -CLAM CHOWDER: Chowder flavor was good and a nice portion. -BEET SALAD: The beets were nice and tasty and went well with the greens and dressing. -MUSSELS: Flavor was fine. There were some that weren't cooked as well, also a lot of sand in some of the mussels as well. They did also have a few toasted bread slices to dip into the broth which is always a nice touch. I've gone to The Deck quite a few times! Every time has been pretty good. I got a mojito this time around and the scallop appetizer. It honestly is big enough for an entree! It came with pork belly and cauliflower purée with a chimichurri. It was cooked really well but the scallops were a little gritty (I don't know why!). The drink was strong but tasted great! Our waitress was super attentive and the food came out quickly. And of course, who doesn't love the view? Sadly when I went, it was cloudy! But that's okay because then that meant there was no wait (usually the wait is so long). And it was cool, not too hot. Honestly ideal! idk about anyone else, but when i visit a nice restaurant with a view of the water, the first thing i'm thinking is clam chowder, i would say i am a connoisseur of chowders and after a 2 day boat trip, trying 3 different chowders along the way, The Deck's CLAM chowder had me very disappointed. it tasted like thick chicken soup and was way overseasoned, i couldnt even recognize the clams in my bites because of the overwhelming chicken flavor. i literally sent it back because it didnt fulfill my craving for clam chowder and.. i'm not a picky eater but it just wasn't good. and then the cherry on top, my dad also had a bowl & finished his (he was hungrier than i) aaand it left him with an upset stomach & unpleasant bathroom trips all night. great truffle fries, & the sandwiches on the menh looked good! just don't go here if you're craving the authentic flavor of clam chowder. read more

came to this restaurant with my mom and dad earlier today. My mom is handicapped, and we had her service dog with us. Out of respect, I even called ahead to make sure it wouldn't be an issue, and the host on the phone told me it was "no problem at all." We spent over 150 on food that was honestly nothing special literally two drinks each and two appetizers-- completely average. Our blonde waitress I wish I remembered her name she had a braid and her hair was up. She was amazing !! After dinner, we just wanted to sit and enjoy the band upstairs with a drink. That's when the night completely turned. The two hosts at the front desk were nothing short of useless. They spent the entire night glued to their phones, blatantly ignoring multiple people trying to get seated. When we walked up to politely ask for a table to finish our drinks, they gave us attitude like we were inconveniencing them. Then one of them -- I believe her name is Layla -- had the nerve to point at my mom's service dog, saying it was "too far away" from us. The only reason the dog wasn't right beside us was because I was literally helping my disabled mother safely get down the stairs. Instead of showing any understanding or basic human decency, she chose to nitpick and embarrass us in public. To make it worse, they were so obvious and unprofessional about talking about us -- Layla? pointed right at us, and the second I caught her, she looked away like a coward. Absolutely pathetic behavior for someone who supposedly works in hospitality. This place should be ashamed of how they treat paying customers -- especially families dealing with disabilities. We followed every rule, confirmed ahead of time, and spent good money here, only to be humiliated and disrespected by two people who clearly care more about scrolling on their phones than doing their jobs. No bueno! After calling and making a reservation for five at 6pm, we were surprised to be told upon arrival that reservations were not accepted. We put our names on the list and enjoyed the view from the dock while we waited for an hour. Upon finally being called, we passed several empty tables on our way to be seated. When we asked if it was possible to sit at one of these tables instead of the one directly under the live music, we were told those tables were reserved. This was perplexing, given we'd been informed reservations weren't taken. Drinks were overdosed with lime juice. Two of the five sat unsipped. Food was cold, not to order and less than desirable. As for the live band...YIKES Silver lining was our server, Kass. She was friendly, kind, and attentive, truly a beacon of positivity amidst an otherwise disappointing experience. If you're looking for a place with epic vibes and strong drinks, here it is. I'm more of a beer person myself but those fancy cocktails coming out from the bar looked delightful. I will add, my one vodka cucumber/lime soda drink tasted like the sunrise and sunset on a 90 degree summer day. Entrees, scallop dish perfect, chicken sandwich perfect (even tho the guy changed everything on it aha, love picky eaters!), beet salad was good and very well seasoned and dressed. BLT was so good; candied bacon is definitely a good thing! Black pepper aioli was super yummy. I got extra to drip my fries in. by the way, the regular fries were great, seasoned well, and cooked perfectly. BUT the sweet potato fries were the STAR of the day. Super crispy but not overcooked. How did they do that? These are a must-have to try! Drinks: we all got the strawberry lemonade. I worried it would be too sweet, but it wasn't and was perfectly balanced. We stopped here to enjoy a nice night out with our recently married daughter. Service we top notch despite them being crazy busy. We had two appetizers, fried calamari and burette salad. Both were very good, the calamari could have used a few more spices and banana peppers. We then each had the Lobster BLT. Each one was not consistent in the amount of lobster, but still tasty. A little pricey but it's a vacation spot so you expected. Good crowd, made a new friend and the live music was decent. Many choices in Salisbury but this is one worth a stop. We've had nothing but good experiences here at 'The Deck". I've always wanted to try it, as you can see it from Newburyport, where we often dine, but thought it might be only fair and more bar fare. We were pleasantly surprised and have now put this restaurant into our regular rotation when we want to bring some friends along on nice days to enjoy great views, good food and drink. Located right on the Merrimack river, you can look across to Newburyport and up and down the river and enjoy the boats coming and going. The place is busy, but they do offer a call ahead option via the OpenTable app. Use it, or you may end up waiting. The parking lot is a bit small, but they offer valet parking. We've had very pleasant servers on every visit. Drinks are very good, and some are kind of fun like the rum punch served in a bucket. We've found the food to be fresh and quite good, hitting above what might be expected from a venue that might be perceived to be more of a bar. Fish tacos, burgers, poke bowl are all very good. On our last visit we tried the fried seafood platter for the first time. It included the usual scallops, shrimps and clams, but we were also surprised to find some lobster included as well. This is way better than average pub or bar fare. Check them out, I think you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

My friend and I visited the Deck on a Tuesday afternoon and were able to get seated right away, with a perfect view of the boats on the river and Newburyport beyond it. Our server Stephanie was a sweetheart and very attentive! We both decided to order Mojitos and split some starters. We chose the Tuna Poke (small portion size but very fresh and tasty), Feelin' Peachy (great burrata, I liked this a lot), and Dip Trio (so tasty and huge!). My husband and I visited The Deck on a 78 degree Thursday evening. The weather was perfect for sitting outside on the ocean. When we arrived, there wasn't any parking so we were guided to a marina lot across the street. The deck staff gave us a ride from across the street on a golf cart. So fun! We were pleasantly surprised by how large the deck is and how many tables. The food and drinks were perfect for the value. I ordered a burger and my husband had the fish tacos. Both delicious! Just came here for drinks on a beautiful late Spring afternoon. This place supports a huge team of valets but I suspect on many busy weekends parking here is a real challenge. The setting is fantastic looking across the Merrimack River towards Newburyport. Lots to look at here with the harbor, boats and fun crowd. I appreciated the shade afforded by the colorful umbrellas. The beer selection was excellent- especially enjoyed the Night Shift on tap. The service was great. Our server took some group photos starting with a selfie of himself ;-).
