I went to this place for years. It's quaint and comfortable. Food is just above okay. But when the choices of breakfast places is so poor as it has beenin Norman, I would end up here a lot, or at least I used to. (Recently breakfast choices in Norman have improved, especially on Main st.) I Agree with Travis G, careful you don't get over charged here, particularly if you have the experiences I've had with their waitress, Lindsay. She tried to charge me a price that was not the way I ordered my food more than once. The last time, When I objected she said, "You don't get to pick how much you pay for your food!" She argues and fought with me and finally a manager intervened and literally had to force her to walk away. This Lindsay waitress is a piece of work! Get her as your waitress and you better be careful! At least that's been my experience with her more than once. After this last experience though I won't ever step foot in The Diner again. Train your waitstaff! Food is not good enough to make up for being attacked by waitress, Lindsay, and over charged. I've lived all over the US and fancy breakfast restaurants. Lindsay is the most abysmal member of any staff I have ever encountered in any business! Actually, Lindsay, I DO get to pick how much I pay for my food. I now go elsewhere. read more

The food is amazing .. I ordered the 2x2x2 and added the blueberry to my pancakes. I also tried the tamale breakfast which was too die for . I would recommend you get there early or you will be waiting for a table. I would definitely go back to this place for breakfast again. Maybe next time I will try their lunch options. read more

Hands down the best breakfast or diner lunch in Norman. Throw a dart at the menu, order whatever you hit. It's all great. Don't come lookin' for a salad this is some good lovin' man food. Ask for the tamale breakfast, it's not on the menu, but will make your taste buds do a happy dance....yum-yum! I really liked The Diner. Went in on a weekday, sat down (seat is seat yourself, as a staff member usually says as you walk in) and ordered. I had high hopes from reading reviews and this place exceeded them all. I was in for breakfast and had the the chicken fried steak, hash browns, eggs, and biscuits and gravy. All were fantastic. Some breakfast places will do really well on the main items and let their sides like eggs and potatoes slip into the land of barely acceptable. Not this place! All items were very good. Cked out the new Diner. Sorry to say the food has dropped another notch. It has new decor but it's evident not a lot of money was spent by Tye and his crew. New covers for the booths, all the bar stools are there now but the fit and finish on all of it is rough, poor, and appears cheaply done because of it. The one thing that simply amazes me to this day is to sit in a restaurant look up at the ceiling and you see old filthy paint with the black fuzz bunnies making streaks on the ceiling. AMAZING breakfast! I had the blueberry pancakes and they were fresh and yummy! The biscuits and gravy... yum! Very soft fluffy biscuits. We moved here three years ago from Kansas and found The Diner. It's become our weekly tradition on the weekends for breakfast, and often other times during the week. There is no where better to get a great breakfast or lunch. The specials are always tasty and interesting, and the chili is the best in the United States. Not only is the food always good, and prepared as you ask, but everyone who works there is personable, kind, and makes you feel as though you are part of a very special family. Ticks all my boxes for stellar diner food: (1) The clientele is a mix of retired men, some families, young kids just coming off the midnight shift, and they're all chatting/interacting with the staff. So, superb people-watching abilities! (2) Home fries sit at the corner of the grill, marinating so to speak. So of course they taste awesome. (3) Plenty of excellent coffee (4) Good bacon. (5) Food is served in a flash. (6) Friendly Staff that talk to each other while they're working. I had a cheesy egg/onion/pepper scrambler thing over the fries. I recently branched out and tried the pancakes which were also very good. Apparently this place has been around for awhile and featured on Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. The Diner used to be great. Used to be the best breakfast in town. It was featured on DDD and all that. But then ownership changed after an unfortunate passing, the main cook left, and wow did it go downhill. If you have to go because someone is making you, you will appreciate the divey, smokey, greasy spoon feel it still has. The place has been there for 100 years or so, for crying out loud, so it has history and funk and the cool factor. And it used to be groovy and delicious. Now it just blows. The biscuits and gravy used to be great. Not so much. The chili used to be pretty damned good. Now it's greasy and flavorless. The pancakes used to be fantastic. And now they just taste like the griddle they are cooked on. Just stay away. There are better breakfasts in Norman. You may find a line out the door to get in on a Saturday or Sunday. It's either Norman purists that don't care it's gone downhill so far, or tourists that want to go to the place that was featured on DDD. Nobody, but nobody is there for the food. read more

Genuinely friendly with fine food and efficient delivery. Huevos rancheros are delicious with a tip of the hot sauce. Brisket très fine.

I live in Michigan, but lucky for me my son lives in Norman. Every time I come down for a visit I insist on going to The Diner at least once. All the food is delicious, but I especially love the Eggarito with home fries! Quality of food is good as well as the quantity and the price. A real winner in my book! read more

Thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast at The Diner. Our waitress, Heather, was very attentive and we loved chatting with her about the restaurant as well as the area because we were visiting from NC.
