With my med device surgery schedule I occasionally have a late start and get to hit a breakfast in whatever town I spent the night. The Diner was really close to the Residence Inn so I popped in after sleeping in a little. My favorite diners tend do be the places in the vintage location for decades. There aren't a lot of those places left because they are expensive to maintain and keep clean.. The diner is in a modern strip center but harkens to the past with black & white photos of old locations from Tyler. The Brown Derby from the 1930's was featured above my booth. Nice touch. A friendly young man named Clayton was my server and he was great. He got me coffee asap and kept it coming. My Denver omelette was spectacular. Absolutely huge and stuffed full of ham, veggies and cheese. I opted for the pan-fried potatoes and sourdough toast. It was all fantastic. The manager was all over the dining room to greet customers and monitor progress. Good job! I do not normally don't hit the fifth star on my rating until a 2nd spectacular visit, but I did this today. I will be back and if they fail to hit this high mark I can always revise. We had already paid and about to get up to leave when the manager came by and asked how our breakfast had been and we told him it was the worst meal we had ever had there. We got up to leave and we're at the door when he caught us and gave us a $20 gift card to make up for the bad experience. Well, I went back this morning for breakfast and I have to say it was worse than a month ago. Tasteless, greasy and it's 5 & a half hours later and I'm having indigestion from the bland, greasy taste in my throat. Nasty, highly processed food here. On 20June23 took my elderly Uncle there at approximately 1:15 p.m. It appeared the lunch rush was over and three of the staff were themselves sitting at a table gossiping. Our assigned waitress (Cassidi) got up and walked over to our table while continuing her conversation with her co-workers. Her co-workers and disturbingly what could of been a shift manager, continued the conversation with her as she was taking our orders. One of the co-workers said something from the back and Cassidi burst out laughing in our face as my Uncle was trying to explain his order. Would have left right there but my Uncle is mobility impaired and it was a tremendous effort getting him in. So rude and unprofessional. We live in the adjacent neighborhood and will impugn this restaurant to who ever we can. read more

First, this place should not be named "The Diner" because there is nothing about this place that even remotely resembles a diner. When I go to a "diner," I want traditional food at reasonable prices. I met a friend here for breakfast and walked out spending over $30 for just the two of us. Coffee was $2.50 and my cup was refilled only once. Our server was a young man who really didn't know what he was doing. The "traditional" breakfast plates were over $10. This restaurant would be far more attractive to the younger crowd than to my age group. My friend suggested this place having never eaten here, he picked it because it was close to our hotel. That being the case, I didn't check the Yelp reviews. Next time, I'm getting off the main drag and finding myself a real diner, even if it doesn't have the word "diner" in the name. read more

Great food, great service, but they do not know how to poach an egg. We love their eggs benedict but over the last year we have been served with uncooked (runny) whites. Even when we sent them back the fixed ones were runny. Today we asked the waitress specifically for eggs with no runny whites. No joy. She typed it into the order but it didn't help. Love this place! My family has gone there a couple different times and we are always happy when we leave. We have ordered several different things and have not been disappointed by anything. Even satisfies the kids. My favorite is the chicken fried steak omelette. Perfect size and full of flavor. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful. We always prefer to support our local places over a chain and it's nice to find a great one that we all enjoy. The breakfast the wife and I had Wednesday morning may not even rate 2 stars. I had an order of 2 pancakes and a side order of half cooked pan sausage, and the wife had a Denver omelets. First of all, the pancakes were a bit heavy, doughy, and definitely flavorless. A boxed food service pancake mix for sure. Hey, guys, if you're going to use a box mix, try Pioneer!! And the sausage as mentioned earlier had a lot of pink in the middle. I wasn't skerrd so I ate it anyway. But again, the sausages flavor left a bit to be desired. Definitely wasn't Whataburger breakfast sausage, not even Jimmy Dean. Well, at least they brought me plenty of butter and syrup as requested. Now, the short and sweet on the wife's omelets was that it was 95% egg. Very little meat and vegetables mixed in. Totally unsatisfying, and not worth $10.75!! Our meal with coffee and a soft drink, plus tip was $34.75. We could have a good dinner at Clear Springs for that amount!! Instead, we had a breakfast that left us thinking, WTF?? read more

Wanted a brunch type meal and found this place. The food is good- we especially liked the pecan waffle and crabcakes Benedict. However, the customer service was not good, and it wasn't because they were busy. Our server had a friend apparently dining in because she went back to their table several times, talking and holding their baby while we had to chase down other servers for coffee refills. Also, bad first impression- my coffee cup was dirty, had a lipstick print on it. I mean even under normal circumstance that's concerning but especially in the middle of a pandemic! I came in from out of town. This spot came up as a good breakfast/brunch restaurant. We had to wait just about 10 minutes which wasn't bad for a late Sunday morning. Our waiter was nice and explained the menu to us. He answered any questions we had and gave us his personal recommendations. The food was good! I had a Texas shaped waffle. A lot of places cook their waffles too long and they dry out... but this one was great! If you get a waffle... make sure to ask for pecans on it! We were passing thru Tyler and wanted breakfast and mimosas. The Diner got great reviews so I called to see if they served mimosas. Unfortunately for us, they didnt. However after talking to a very friendly guy named James and seeing the extra effort he put forth to help us find a place that did we decided we had to eat there. We were greeted immediately by Lloyd. He was very friendly as well and got us seated immediately. Sydney was our server, ask for her section when you go! She did an amazing job. All three were the definition of East Texas hospitality. I got the biscuits and gravy...absolutely fantastic. The biscuit was exactly how I like it and the gravy was very tasty and had perfect consistency. She had the Fruit Fantasia Crepes. They were delicious! I can see why this place has such great reviews. As we left Lloyd asked us how we liked the crepes and the biscuits and gravy...how he knew and what we ordered surprised me because he was busy gets folks seated the whole time. WOW! First of all, the service here is great. Friendly, efficient, congenial. Stellar. This accounts for the 4 stars. It's that good. The booths are comfortable and a great place for conversation. We have only eaten breakfast here a few times. My husband, who is diabetic, says the omelets here are among the best he's ever had. The fruit he orders with it has always been fresh. I usually order the traditional bacon, scrambled eggs, potatoes. The eggs don't taste like they were cracked from an egg, but have that slick texture that might be poured from a carton. The bacon was thick and the perfect texture, but so salty I literally had to spit it out. Never had bacon that salty before. I ordered it twice, different visits, to see if it was a one time fluke. It wasn't. I ordered hash browns once, and again, the perfect crispy texture, but the primary flavor I could taste was the off flavor of the oil. The country potatoes were just bag poured little squares. I ordered a biscuit once, and instead of fluffy, it was crispy. Definitely not homemade. Toast next time. The coffee was decent, but had a slight burnt taste. I want to love this place...we adore eating breakfast out, but I think I'll just have to sit there and read while my husband eats his omelet. Today was my 9th or 10th breakfast here, my first 3 visits were overall pretty good. However the last few times my food is just mediocre and the service was slow. When I order my eggs here over medium even the whites were runny, so today I ordered 2 eggs over well and they were basically fried eggs. So I'm frustrated that the front of house cannot get the kitchen to cook eggs properly. The bacon was perfect today but the hash browns, eggs and toast were just mediocre. The server had a rough smokers voice and unpleasant. She spent most of her time during my breakfast hacking and coughing on the other side of the dividing wall between my booth and kitchen. She was also engaged in a boisterous conversation with another server. She literally ignored me until it was time to pay my check, then and only then did she offer to refill my drink that had been empty for half of my dining experience. Maybe this placed used to be great but after several so so experiences here I'm done and won't be back Well I lied, I've been back twice in August 2020. My first visit back was pretty great mainly because Kacee was my server. She was friendly and attentive, my tab was $13.80 and I tipped her $20 because she was exceptional. Today August 7th 2020 really will be my last patronage to this establishment. My server was Julia B. I entered the Diner and waited several minutes to be shown to a table. There were only 3 men sitting at a table and all of the servers were back in the kitchen area gossiping. I had to walk back to the kitchen to announce that I was here. First thing I noticed was they are still using laminated menus, not paper as has been ordered. I observed my server bus the table where the 3 men had been seated. She then went straight to the kitchen and brought out my food. She did not clean her hands nor did she wipe down the table she had just cleared with anything that would kill a virus. Other things I noticed, the majority of the patrons were not wearing mask coming in while I was eating. The culture in this place is Christian, they make sure you know that by playing Christian music and other hints.... and I'm great with that except if you're Christian and then you need to realize it's a "Verb" meaning you're actions should reflect a Love or a Light that I can't get at Denny's. Also the servers spend too much time near the kitchen talking amongst themselves when they should be providing service. My server today "Julia B" was mediocre at best. This place has potential, but whoever is running it has lost all control. I'm sorry but this time will really be my last unless I read fantastic reviews in the future that suggest a Redemption has occurred. I rarely leave poor reviews , over and out! read more
