Was invited here by friends before church. The staff was great. Ordered eggs and bacon and I think they used a quail egg. Small slices of bacon. A croissant is supposed to come with it but it was cut in half and grilled. Thank goodness I wasn't buying because it was such a small plate of food. The quality was so disappointing. The service here was really good, however my breakfast arrived barely warm. I know biscuits and gravy can be pushed to the side while waiting for an eggs Benedict, but they shouldn't come out almost room temperature. My country potatoes, though very tasty, were also barely warm. I'm not going to let this experience keep me from going back though, because I believe in second chances and sometimes even third chances. I have been here with friends twice in the past years and tried it today with my husband now that we live in Tyler. He had the breakfast tacos and they were ok. I had two eggs over medium, sausage, toast and hash browns. First time in my life I've ever had chewy like rubber eggs, the sausage was good. The toast had buttery oil or margarine on it could barely eat it. It didn't matter how much salt, pepper or ketchup I put on the hash browns they had no flavor. They didn't even taste like potatoes. Tasted like water. My plate was definitely not worth the $10 price tag. Service was good but just not impressed with the food at all. Maybe this place is for people that like sweet breakfast like pancakes and waffles with fancy stuff on top. Looks like we are going to be looking for a place that serves a good southern breakfast. Five stars. Not even a question. First off, to be unexpectedly greeted with Christian worship music on a particularly rough morning was a small to many, but huge to us, blessing and soul pick-me-up. Our server was Darielle and she was so sweet, so full of smiles and bent over backward to accommodate anything we needed. I opted for the East Texas Eggs Benedict - A fluffy buttered biscuit covered with fresh made and DELICIOUS (!!!) sausage, a medium poached egg and country gravy (in place of Hollandaise), with a side of fresh bananas, apples and strawberries. Phenomenal, y'all! Words and pictures simply don't do any of it justice! Not to mention, a Yelp check-in scores you a free, fresh-baked cinnamon roll. We arrived at 10:37am and were told a 25-30 minute wait. Which is honestly no big deal but we ended up waiting a total of 53 minutes. I love this place and usual come all the time. The service and integrity is slowly getting worse . Now aside from the wait our server Amanda was data and punctual the entire time and almost made up completely for in inaccuracy in the front end . Our first time to eat at the Diner. We arrived at 1:45 not realizing they close at 2. They treated us like our timing was perfect. We had 1/2 order appetizer, and two lunch specials. The batter on the chicken fried steak, fried pickles, fried green tomatoes and onion rings was perfect, light & crispy but not hard or greasy. The skillet potatoes, grilled chicken and grilled tomatoes were also great. The rolls and cinnamon rolls tasted homemade and were 'to die for'. He had brisket eggs Benedict and I had veggie eggs Benedict. Both were EXCELLENT! A side of biscuits and gravy was also very good. I read a previous review that the gravy had no sausage in it; I'm a native Texan and have never added sausage to my gravy, nor has my mother, grandmother or great grandmother. We use the "drippings", make a roux and add milk. Those drippings can be from sausage, bacon, turkey sausage, etc. Sidney was our server and she made our dining experience wonderful, and I am not an easy customer - I have many questions. She was polite, knowledgeable about menu items...just perfect. She asked us if we wanted "to go" coffee, which put her over the top in my book. We will definitely be back!! I've been there twice, first meal was Chicken fried steak, eggs and pancakes, excellent. Second meal was Crabcakes Benedict, Two crab cakes grilled and placed on top of grilled tomatoes and topped poached eggs. They offered either hollandaise or etoufée sauce, I asked for a cup of each. First of all the crabcakes were very poor in every way, more than likely a frozen product. The etoufee sauce was passable were as the hollandaise sauce was putrid. Right now, the best breakfast place in Tyler, especially if you're in the mood for something outside the basics. We always go on the weekends, so it's usually crowded when we're there. Still, we normally don't wait more than 10 minutes or so. The waitstaff is about average . . . we're never blown away by the service nor are we ever really disappointed. The Texas waffle is solid, and I really enjoy their variations on the eggs Benedict. When I'm watching what I eat, their omelet with fajita chicken and poblano peppers is a solid choice. The only reason they don't get the full five stars is because of the price. I don't mind spending a little for great food, but they are bad there about up charging for EVERYTHING, especially if you try to customize your order (e.g. My wife will cut several things, but they'll still charge her for extra stuff. Why not just substitute?) Still, you can't go wrong here. Lots of great breakfast options, and a clean and inviting atmosphere. read more

Great find in Tyler! The Diner is a great brunch place to go to. The ambiance was nice and they had some oldies music playing which went well with the feel of the restaurant. The food was portioned well. I had the chicken fried steak omelette and my husband had the crab cake Benedict. I rated this place three stars because our service wasn't the greatest. "Nothing could be finer than eating at the diner." Such a true statement! My husband and I were traveling through Tyler for a baseball tournament and met the owner at CrossFit Tyler. He invited us to have breakfast the next day and we came! He welcomed us at the door and we were seated almost immediately! Our waitress was wonderful and our food came very fast! Visited The Diner while family and I were visiting Tyler on Labor Day 2017. There was a lengthy wait, about 30 minutes, but we didn't mind. Once we were seated, we were attended to and our waiter was very friendly. The food was pretty good and would recommend anyone looking for a good breakfast to stop by. First time here. Staff was friendly but food was not so good. Came in for breakfast and was pretty disappointed. Bacon was beyond burnt, toast was hard as a rock. The eggs were pretty good but overcooked for what I ordered. The only thing that I have no complaints about was the hash brown. And the wait for food delivery is way long. This week the restaurant feels tired with very poor cleaning (restrooms and floors were unpleasant) and a general air of inattention. My food was pretty good but my dining companion was underwhelmed with his meal. The service was okay but we were empty on drinks more than once.
