Never did anything like this before but it wasn't what I had expected. I was expecting more of a theatrical atmosphere rather than 2 people in plain street clothes in a plain banquet room. No props, scenery, etc. The skit was good though but there was a lot of improv that was hit or miss. Seemed like something you would find at Second City. A few audience participation scenes too. Though I wouldn't do it again, they had some good plot twists and tricky scenarios to figure out. read more

Update: I received an email from the organizer regarding my experience (I had reached out via their website after the show) with an apology for the food experience and an offer to refund the tickets, which was accepted and appreciated. The star rating was updated due to the fact that they made it right and because of the two main performers, who are what made the show enjoyable. They were fun to watch. read more

What a fun night! I was a little nervous going into this because I didn't know what to expect but we had such a great time! Very interactive and lots of laughs! The actors were fantastic and never got out of character as hard as it was work all of the jokes they were said. The dinner was good, but to be honest we weren't there for the food we were there to solve a crime so full three course meal was an added plus! Drinks were coming in strong which is a ADDED PLUS PLUS but it definitely didn't help me solve the crime! Oh! Quick tip! Take notes, work the room when they tell you to, and ask questions! This show picked up well, comedy killer mystery show, funny interactions with the crowd. The clues were what I believed a good amount of tricky-ness while still everyone being able to kind of put the clues together which makes it fun! The food though Tasteless. Honestly horrible. The desserts were frozen everyone at our table took a plate, excited took one bit and shoved the plate to the side. Entree plain chicken and even plainer sauce. They ran out of appetizers and never refilled anything half of our table went up to get their first plate and we just sat back down. read more

Four of us were so excited to get reservations for this dinner theatre. It was the first girls' night out since the pandemic began. It all started out great with yummy appetizers and a great salad but we were disappointed we had to wait so long for the entree. We had to first sit through two of the most boring "acts" any of us have ever encountered. There was no "theatre' - just two bozos walking around with a microphone, making bad jokes and absolutely not talented in any way. It was cheesy and stupid. When the meal finally was served, it was cold and tasteless. We ate and left. So disappointed. Worst night ever. read more

The show is great, a good mix of scripted and improv with a lot of audience participation. This is not one of those dinner theaters where you eat and watch the show, you are a huge part of the show. My wife and I were laughing all night. The food is pretty good, but the show itself is definitely the reason we had such a great night. read more

The company I work for hosted a private event with them and we all had a good time! I will admit, some of us had never done this sort of thing and were skeptical if it would be any fun or just total cheesiness. I am pleased to report that while yes, it was total cheesiness, it was quite a bit of fun and the actors did a great job portraying their characters. My coworkers who ended up with roles in the plot also had great fun and really got into it. You do need to participate, though, to truly enjoy the show, so if you want to just sit back and not partake it won't nearly be as entertaining. And by participate, I mean if you aren't chosen to play one of the small roles as suspects in the murder mystery, you are given clues and questions to go around and ask the other folks as you try to solve the mystery...it's not hard work by any means, just fun! read more

Very disappointing and amateurish. This was a retirement gift to a friend of ours, so we were a party of 6. They "plant" actors who are part of the show among the dinner guests. To start with, the "plant" which our party figured out pretty quickly, was sick. He sneezed nonstop, and blew his nose repeatedly on his cloth napkin, occasionally saying he had allergies. He may have, but he should have taken his medication or stayed home. Needless to say, it was very unappetizing. We nicknamed him Mr. Sneezy and joked that if we all get sick we'd know it wasn't allergies. Well, the woman who sat next to him did get sick a few days later! Acting is mediocre, food was cold and they ran out of desserts. There are so many other ways to spend an evening with all that Chicago and the suburbs offer. The Marriott theater in Lincolnshire with wonderful professional performances is one such theater and less expensive. This was not worth $75 per ticket! read more

The Dinner Detective July 8th 2017 The faces and identities of the actors and guest have been changed for their protection LOL JK How ever I will not be including photos of the actors or any of the props as I do not want to ruin the show for others. Now down to brass tax, I took my Girlfriend to the Dinner detectives at the Chicago Marriott in Schaumburg IL, as this was our first time at something like this we were excited to see how it would be.... We were not disappointed So Check in was at 6p and the show will last about 3 hours, at 6 I went to the registration table as the request on the ticket holder come there to get your name tags. I received my table number as well as 2 name tags which had different color stickers on them, and a large place for you to write your alias. Make sure you give the right name tag to the right people in your group as the different color dot on the name tag signifies which meal you order and will help the wait staff make sure they get that meal to the right person. Also on a side note you are able to make special requests such as; no cheese, or no garlic, if you have any sort of allergies or dietary restrictions. My alias was Senior Fluffy and my partner in crime was Lilly Mosby. While your being seated they have a cash bar, and they served appetizers. That night was started off with crab cakes and spring rolls. Also at your setting you are given iced tea and water. The place setting was cozy but I imagine that's to get people to talk more. While the appetizers were coming around the Hostess explained the ground rules such as; no one is really being murdered so there would be no need for CPR, how the note sheets worked, the location of the bathrooms and took questions if needed all while adding her own flare and pizzazz. Then the show began, it was wonderfully cheeky having both scripted and improvisational parts. The actors are very good and because everybody is a suspect you won't know who the actors are as you interrogate other patrons. There is a lot of audience participation and the actors can roll with all of it. Funny enough we actually had actors at our table and didn't know it until it was too late. The entire show will have out of your chair laughing and taking notes on everyone around you. It was incredibly well thought out and put together as you gather clues with your fellow investigators not knowing If they are helping you or trying to throw you off their trail. All and all the show is very impressive and I guarantee you will have great time, unless you have no sense of humor and actively try not to have fun. The food you will have is very good as well, The appetizers for the evening were crab cakes and spring rolls, which were followed by a small salad and dinner roll. The main course came, I got the salmon plate and the birthday girl had the chicken, both were very tasty. I dare say my salmon must have been about 7 or 9 oz as this was huge piece of fish that came with a serving of green beans and mashed potatoes. The fish itself was fantastically moist and full of flavor, the mashed potatoes had green onion, garlic, and bacon in them, and the green beans were pan seared and still hot when they served them. The dessert for the evening was New York style cheese cake, unfortunately with the way the show was going I was having to much fun and forgot to photograph the appetizer, salad or desert. They were wonderful regardless and I hope somebody tells the chef I said so. As this was a birthday gift for my Girlfriend I can't go to much into the cost but I will say that it is very affordable for couples and for larger parties. There are plenty of places to find discounts including on The Dinner Detectives web pages. With that being said I will also say it is worth every penny and then some. They do have a envelope on the center of each table for those who enjoyed the show you can leave a tip for the performers and I got to say they deserve one *applause* I cannot express how much My Girlfriend and I enjoyed the show and the food it was all just amazing. We got tickets as a Christmas gift. This isn't something I would ever go to otherwise. I expected a show but instead there were two hosts that portrayed it more as a comedy. We were told to talk with others for a few minutes as anyone could be the "killer". While at our table and during the interview of those at our table I quickly figured out two of them had a part in the show. The "killer" ended up being someone who you would/could of never guessed which took all the fun out. I had about 5 suspects. The clues weren't helpful at all. Everyone at our table felt like it was a waste of time and wouldn't go again. There should be more of a show with actors instead of it being a comedy with the killer being someone no one would guess. It was a guy randomly standing in room by bar who we thought was a worker. He never spoke and nothing led us to know it was him. The food was pretty good but I was very disappointed soft drinks or iced tea wasn't included. Only water was included. I'm glad I didn't pay the money for this as I felt it was a waste of a 45 minute one way trip and night away from my daughters. The food was great and the plot was entertaining. My only complaint was that the killer was some person the attendees were highly unlikely to encounter when interviewing potential suspects. I felt cheated out of the chance to guess correctly. Also, the guy I thought was the killer was just another attendee who had been to the show before and made himself match all of the clues. He even confessed he was the killer to me right before we filled out our "who do you think's the killer?" forms and asked me not to let the other participants know so they could still have fun.
