Tonight the Diver really won a customer for life. Uber eats cancelled my order from the diver after I waited an hour and a half for their delivery. By the time they cancelled it, it was too late to re order anything anywhere else. Shawn called me minutes later and ended up bringing my meal to me himself. Talk about above and beyond. My food was delicious and I couldn't appreciate them more. I will probably never use Uber eats again but I'll definitely be back at the diver soon. Thank you Shawn! This place has great pizza. The cleanliness and friendliness of the spot and staff are excellent. This is a great place to go for dinner.

We live in walking distance to the Diver. We Always get the mussels. You can have them in a butter garlic sauce or a spicy red sauce. We can never decide! The pizza is wonderful. The burgers are delicious. I always ask them to cook the burgers medium-well so it's super juicy. Great beer on tap. The staff is nice and attentive. The best part is the owner! Walking us out to see how we enjoyed our food Each and Every time we eat there. Finally. Someone who cares enough to talk to their customers! We will be going to the diver many years to come! Stopped in for noms and bevvys as a respite from farm life. Wide beer and cider selection, pizza was great, halibut special was delicious!! My boyfriend and I were passing through Eureka on a roadtrip and we were looking for a place to eat. Decided to check to see if the Diver was open as it was New Year's Day and not every place may be open. As luck would have it they were and we had a wonderful dinner there. We had hot tea, clam chowder, and the El Diablo and the Von Trapp burgers. We caught the restaurant at the tail end of their business hours and so they had to use up some dessert; the cook who operates the wood fire oven made it and it was bloody delicious. We got some vanilla ice cream and a pastry thing that tasted like an apple and churro had a delicious love child. The burgers were really good and they had fantastic sweet potato fries. I wish we had food like this down in Southern California where we're from, because it is not hard to make food that is delicious, good looking, with fresh ingredients and fresh preparation, and to do it with pride and passion. The owner was a joy to talk with and gave great recommendations for where we should travel next and some tips on how to get there! Our server, Loraly, was really new and we were her 4th table ever; she was fantastic and provided very warm and hospitable service. If you are ever on the fence of where to go for dinner like I was last night, just take a chance on the Diver Bar and Grill and you will not be disappointed. The management was on point. Rest of the staff were a bunch of kids that need to learn how to grab another gear. Food was great! Ambiance is not my favorite but great art in the place by locals. Was so looking forward to this place and supporting a new local business. Ordered a large amount off the menu; a round drinks, bottle of wine, two appetizers, three entrees, and two desserts. Was checked on after the appetizers, everything great! Delicious pizza, great parsnip and carrot fries. Entrees come out, terrific sandwiches (one of the better pastrami's I've had, great meat!), but the fish special was terrible. Not just strangely paired, "I didn't like it" kind of terrible, but flaccid under cooked fish (translucent and cold in some places, not flaky and warm as cooked fish should be), topped with a strange southwestern style salsa, and then topped with what was called smoked pork belly, that was served burnt, very clearly burnt/charred by the grill or pan in how it was heated up. I don't know how it was let out of the kitchen. The dish was (nervously) sent back as soon as we were checked on about the entrees. I don't send food back, the group of people I was with with don't send back, this was that moment that a dish was so off, it needed to go - and needed to be recognized. We LOVED the rest of our food, and made that very clear. We understand things can happen; a bad dish can be served every now and then. No big deal - we weren't going to hold it against them. We get the check, 50% off the above mentioned entrée that two bites was taken from and was so improperly prepared, and it shouldn't have been served. Our very sweet waitress told us the owner would be over shortly to discuss it with us. Shawn, whom I'm hoping has much better days, proceeded to argue and belittle us - that he couldn't simply comp a meal every time someone didn't like it. We reiterated that it wasn't due to the fact that we merely 'didn't like it,' but that the preparation completely fell short. If you undercook the primary piece of the entrée, and also burn part of it, the cook was probably distracted. He apologized that he should have looked at the dish when it was returned, but didn't, so he couldn't just take our word for it. We were livid. This is the owner - he should have eyes on dishes coming out, if he's present, none-the-less, be made very aware if a dish is sent back. This establishment just opened. There's no excuse. It's truly unfortunate that the owner couldn't recognize an issue and provide good customer service. We were fuming when we left after being spoken to in such a manner. We just paid and left. I can't say with a good conscious that I would ever recommend this place or come back after the direct treatment from the owner (even if most of our food was excellent, and our waitress was just the sweetest). Be warned. Also - get better curtains and lighting... and put salt and pepper on the tables. A restaurant that had so much thought put into the ceiling, art, unique menu... should have these touches finished off as well. read more

It's been years since Henderson Center had a decent restaurant, and while there is room for improvement, the Diver a promising addition the Eureka's dining scene. The dining room is dark and dramatic with a ceiling covered molded tin tiles. Terra cotta walls and unique lighting lend a modern and trendy vibe. The bare concrete floor and lack of partitions leads me to assume that a packed house would be deafening, but we arrived late when things were winding down, so the noise level wasn't an issue. The menu is quirky and reflects a kitchen that won't settle on tried-and-true staples, and is out to experiment with bolder ingredients and flavors. But it is also limited in ways that seem oddly constrained. For instance, the burgers don't include a vegetarian option, leaving people like me to search elsewhere for my meat-free meal. It would seem to be a fairly easy and obvious thing to include a vegetarian option. Likewise, the entrées did not include anything for vegetarians or vegans. Our dinner started with an order of carrot and parsnip fries. We had to try them as my wife is a fan of parsnips. While my wife enjoyed the fries, I found them disappointingly soggy and the parsnips tough. The fries should have been cut thin and fried to a crisp. And the accompanying aioli really just felt like I was dipping into mayonnaise. The house salad, on the other hand, was delightful. The dressing complimented a beautiful mix of lettuces and the addition of pickled onions was unique and flavorful. I would go back just to eat that salad again. My wife enjoyed the catch of the day, salmon, along with tasty, citrusy kale and a somewhat bland and undercooked black rice. My margherita pizza was okay. The crushed tomato base was flavorful and well seasoned, but the pizza crust was thick and spongy. I don't know if this is an intentional choice by the kitchen, but I would much prefer a thin, crisp crust. We left optimistic, feeling that with a few improvements the Diver could be the neighborhood restaurant that Henderson Center has been waiting for. read more

Well, a hopeful try at a new spot in a great Eureka neighborhood fell flat. My wife had a burger that was decent - served with cold fries. My grilled cheese was supposed to have bacon jam on it, but only a trace of cheese and lost any hint of bacon. It was basically sliced avocado on grilled sourdough. We waited over 45 minutes in an uncrowded dining room for a seemingly simple meal. Fortunately we got a replacement order of hot fries. Another long wait to get our check picked up, before we finally walked it to the bar. The place has potential. But a bigger, more inspired menu would be a good start. Had a wonderful dinner her for my Birthday. The service was great, had a very attentive waitress. The food was on point, my 3 yr old loved the fries. My prime rib was perfect. The only downfall was my soon to be 80 yr old grandfather ask to have sourdough bread instead of the rye, which is served on another style of sandwich and was told no substitutes. Then when he asked for blue cheese dressing on his salad, and they didn't have that either.. A bit of a downfall. But still a great place to eat, great food and wonderful service all the way around. Great atmosphere and delicious pizza! My friend and I both had the buffalo chicken pizza and it was perfect! Their wood fire oven helps to give the smoky char on the outer crust, just the right about of buffalo sauce for a kick but not too spicy. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed and forgot to bring out water until after we got our appetizer and took some time getting us our check/boxes but the place was hopping. It's ok but needs improvement. The place is if cold both in temp and decor. And in humboldt county where it's cool cold and rainy you want comfort and warmth. The floors are cement the tables are metal and the worst is the chairs ..... they are metal. There are no plants there is no art on the walls there are no rugs. I agree with a former yelper ..... it took 2 years to open what the heck did you forget to buy some pictures and rugs. It's causal and familyish but prices are a little high for families. Pizza have potential but ours was a bit under cooked and smaller than the average individual pizzas I have had. Some odd combinations a little too creative. It's decent and will give Brick and Fire a run for there money. Turn the heat on, hand out some sweaters and for goodness sake ..... hang some art on the wall. Oh yeah ...... Went for a light dinner and was very impressed with the menu. The specials sounded delish but wanted something smaller so we went with the sweet and salty pizza. Diver Bar was a highly recommended place by friends in the area and we were not disappointed. The food offerings were interesting and each one was really above par. Four people, three different entrees plus appetizers, drinks, and everything was solid. Service was very good and friendly, ambiance was nice as you can judge by others pictures. I saw the owner going out to the street just before we left and made a point to go and tell him how impressed I was. Henderson Center definitely needs this kind of establishment. Plenty of lunch spots, but not so much in the dinner/bar arena for this part of town. read more

Have been wanting to try out this restaurant since it opened. For dinner the prices are to be expected the food was good no complaints. We had salads I went for the pizza it was bacon,spinach and mushroom it was really tasty with a bacon jam and a creamy white sauce my husband had the bacon cheeseburger and fries and he really liked the fries. We were on a roll and had desert we went for the brownie sundae it was again good it was overall just a nice experience! Yeah happy to have a good restaurant in Henderson Center!! read more

I went here last night for a friends birthday. I got me the berry salad and the sweet & salty pizza. It had bacon on it! The ceiling was all silver tiled. It was damn near wonderful. I would definitely like to go here again. There are a few more things I'd like to try. I just wish they had whiskey on the menu. read more
